cm9 questions and general - HTC ChaCha

Hello again,
After trying every custom rom for htc chacha/status I decided to give cm9 a try. So here are my experiences after some modifications of my own:
Very nice, stable and smooth even at 600mhz. No FCs whatsoever. It will be ready for daily use when video recording is fixed (it records, but couldn't play it).
Still, few things are really bothering me.
Camera has no saturation and contrast settings.
There is no option for additional call settings - my phone number is hidden by default from my carrier and I cannot show my number since there is no option for changing that (or I couldn't find it). It is always hidden which is annoying. There are a lot of people who are not willing to answer when someone is calling them from a hidden number.
There is no option to turn of overscroll effect. I turn it off in every cm mod I have used and I would like to be able to turn it off in this one as well.
Overall, very nice work and I hope that some day we will get a fully functional cm9 for our phones.
Cheers.
P.S. If anyone knows how to show my number and/or turn off overscroll effect, please, feel free to share.

Try with CPU speed 800 MHz. See if it's the same.

I miss some cm7 features too (keyboard shortcuts, brightness status bar slider) but I'm not going back to gingerbread after trying out ICS, especially that the rom is quite stable IMO

Give it time. Remember that CM9 just hit RC1 so it will take a while.
"225. That figure represents the total number of days since Android 4.0 (ICS) hit the AOSP repos."

Nope, its still laggy.
But I think its the same problem as with my Lg optimus one:
there I use a Cyanogenmod 9, Android ICS 4.0.4, CAF Kernel ROM
and they also got the HQ Youtube Problem:

Maybe we got the same problem in here?

Try taking lib called libOmxH264Dec.so from cm7 and replace it in cm9 and see if that fix the youtube issue. I fixed it like that in a different phone. Couldn't check it for myself since I reverted to cm7.

Strange. I could swear that I checked additional settings and that I could only see settings for network and not for call display.. Oh, well I was tired and I must have missed them. Cannot check it since I'm back to cm7.

In order to get GPS working try suggestion from cm7 thread. Flash stock rom or some other stock based, turn on GPS and get a lock for your position (in maps or gps test etc.) and then flash cm9 and your GPS should work.

It should be working. I'm in Germany. Tested and verified with the latest CM9 build.
Try GPS Test from Market.
Also, make sure you go to System Settings -> Location services -> GPS Source -> Select Use internal GPS -> OK.

Well, I can confirm that HQ in youtube is not smooth. Not with the changed lib I mentioned earlier as well. With GPS I have no issues. And Alex, I still cannot find settings for call display, lol... I'm not using the default launcher and I just don't see additional settings anywhere Am I blind or sth.? Are they located in the main settings or somewhere else?
Edit: I am blind Open the PHONE, you said! In my mind I read open the launcher menu and then settings - which are the main settings, OMG Found it, thanks

GPS Problem
Hi,
First, great work with this rom, it makes phone usage much better experience than with stock rom. Too bad only few people works on it.
Ok, to the point, i still got problem with making gps active, ie. no gps symbol in tray, when it should be there.
I tried reenabling it in settings->location->gps source->internal gps and it still doesnt work.
Havent tried reflashing rom, like bok``888 did, cause there must be easier explanation.
Reflashing suggests some cache wiping or poking with hardware settings, maybe this the reason? (i cleaned it before flashing ICS, just saying)

Key mappings
Last night i installed CM9 on my ChaCha, and everything works wonderful for me, the only big deal is the key mappings, all the letters/numbers work fine, but the simbols.....they are all switched my low knowledge of android modding tells me its just a question of a mapping file, tho I dunno what steps to take =/ any help? (tryed SuperOSR and I didn't had to do a thing, just for the info)
My mobile phone is from Portugal, dunno if that helps, but how can i solve this issue?
Thank You for the wonderfull ROM

Ok, you wanted new thread for Villain 5.0, so here it is.
This rom is based on SPRINT CDMA, so there may be some issues because of that.
It had a nasty issue while calling, it replaced "+" in the number with "001", this is fixed now thanks to LuffarJoh, thanks man!
I want to thank Nprussel for his great rom and Sanpei for his great kernel.
You should look at the original thread for some of bugs and fixes.

Hello my firends and testers
here is a mash i did while trying to get this rom more local... this make this rom experimental
I have no experience in what i am doing and this CDMA port make the job not easier for me.
I managed to turn on the languages, but very few things are localized, you will see...
I am trying to do my best so if you have suggestions on how to make it work, please PM me

Friendstream gone (did'nt worked), Friendstream widget works tho.
Modified HTC IME to support locales, thanks to Jonas!
More agresive Auto Task Killer, need tests...
Titanium Backup should work, need tests too... (no FC by me)
Fixed Camera thanks to Sanpeis Magic experimental camera lib need tests...
I am trying to fix the old bootscreen... still working on that...
There may be some problems with sync, i fixed it by canceling sync and then pushed sync all again...
so in short, this need tests

A2SD, Wifi, BT, GPS, Sensors working, Camera flickery but working.
I Fixed the Friendstream and news reader...(sorry, this is not fixed.)
Added Mount USB, System Info, Jbed, Brut Maps, Market enabler,
Home switcher, ES file explorer, memory tweaks...
Added Launcher 2 (choose launcher with home switcher, and give it few seconds to load)
Live wallpapers (working in Launcher or Launcher 2, give it few seconds to load)
Got problem with live wallpapers now, the wallpaper changes after phone locks. Working on that.
The original rom is for USA only, so there is no extra languages (working on that one too)
you can try morelocale2 from market,
to change to celsius go to settings in weather,
to change to 24h clock, go to date & time settings.
On the first login to google it may happen that you cant type anything,
close the keyboard and open it again, that worked for me.
You know what to do... test and report
enjoy
First boot take loooong time, if u are not sure if it lives, check adb logcat.
Ps. Do i need to say that this rom need time to settle?
Ok, it need some time to load and settle!!

I flashed the Rom but the things u said that were included like usbmount, etc can be no where to be found
Found one small graphical glitch. In People, Groups, click on any group. Contacts are display on top of a black background. As it should be white, we can't see contact's name.
EDIT: Already reported in original thread. Hope it gets fixed soon.

Talking about I5800XXJPF

Hi everybody,
Here is my first experience with this version :
- Rooted successfuly with OneClickRoot 1.5.5
- GPS : first, it wasn't working properly (slow and not allways working). Then I installed GPS Status (which download an xtra.bin file) and put XTRA option activated in gpssetup2. I also modified the gps.conf file as shown in an other thread. ==> GPS working good and quick ! good news !
*EDIT* : FasterFix doesn't work, application display stays black, no menu scroll down to change location. Octy doesn't improve gps too. Only way for me was to change manually gps.conf.
- Quadrant score : about 350 with some very shorts slow down during test ... I don't know why (I killed every process before runing quadrant)....
- It's smooth to use but ... after "playing" with GPS Status, GPS Test and Maps, system becomes VERY slow during a few minutes, even after killing all process ...
I don't know if LagFix V2 will resolve this problem, I don't think so but I didn't make the test. Quadrant score goes to 570 with LagFix but what is the real effect on the system ?
- No other problem discovered yet but there are a lot of functions to test ...
- Let's see tomorow about battery life ...
What about you ?
Best regards and sorry for my english ...

Thanx for the feedback.. also waiting to know the battery life as well.. having hell lot of problem with JPA and JPB (
Installed it a while ago, but haven't noticed any big differences in smoothness or features. No news with GPS either. It still works relatively well after applying modified gps.conf.
The rom still does not include Finnish or Swedish keyboard layouts, but you can install gingerbread keyboard that has them.
Rooting confirmed to work with OneClickRoot 1.5.5.
Also, MusicPlayer.apk from stock android doesn't work anymore. It did with XXJPB, but now it complains about shared libraries missing. Will just have to use the samsung's one.

This was the case in all previous firmwares as well? Swype was never the default input method for me. Talking about Swype: does it respond quick to the word you swyped? Because With JPA/JPB I always had to wait a few seconds after swyping a word before it would appear on the screen.

Could have been because my phone didn't clear my old settings when i reflashed.. and nope swype doesn't seem to have any kind of delay on the words.. at least not when it finds the exact word.. if it finds multiple words it has a slight delay tho

[TOOL] SpareParts (Compcache and CPU settings working)

Hello All,
I am not de developer of this app, but I find it very usefull and wanted to share it. Its called SpareParts and people that have had previous android phones are probably familiar with it.
However, I never found it in any Xperia X10 rom, and everytime I tried to install one from the internet, it just wouldn't work, or didn't include some of the most interesting settings of this app.
Basically SpareParts is a system tweaker, and lets you change a variety of settings which makes it a very handy tool.
I recently found one which included Compcache and CPU settings that worked fine on my X10.
For those who don't know, enabling compcache allows android to compress RAM and results in overall better performance.
It also has working CPU settings (As you may know, most CPU control apps available are unreliable with the X10).
In my case, I used to have ramdom reboot problems , specially when I was heavy using the phone (ie, playing asphalt and streaming music at the same time) and after enabling compache with this app the issue went away.
Also, it allows you to lower the CPU speed without affecting the phone performance too much, so it definitively helps to save a lot of battery.
Anyone willing in to give it a try, here is the link, i suggest setting Swapines to 15 after enabling compache:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7864538/SpareParts-4.apk
The phone seems to be more smooth, but may be a placebo effect.
Please give it a try and share your results.
BTW I am using CM 6.1.1 ROM Tweaked and with extras with custom Sysctl settings posted in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929448
PS.
You may also want to try changing the animation speed to fast (under original spareparts settings). The phone will feel a lot faster

Hmmm interesting, but I can't seem to use it to turn off some of the status bar stuff.

Some of the settings will not work. Maybe a dev can mod the app and just leave the working settings. This version of the app was modded for another device.
I'm on wolfbreak's cm v 4.4 and this definitely made the phone.snappier...
I had to uninstall the original spare parts before installing this one or the compcache setting wouldn't stay after a reboot.
Thanks for this!
would not be fully functional since we are not allowed custom kernals
Sweet!
Thank you! This does have a lot more capabilities than the regular spare parts!!! Will tweek it and give feed back!!!
Best regards,
Chris

I see you are using 2.1 ROM. I am not sure if it will work in 2.1. I only tested it in 2.2. However, some of the settings are specific for the device this app was originally made for so they won't work for us (ie the status bar tweaks).

- First and foremost GREAT job. I was very disappointed with the HC 3.2 release and went back to Taimat 1.1 immediately.
- Would love to have back the new features from BRD's 1.1 mod pack. Screen capture and the enhanced Shutdown screen were awesome.
- Still can't connect my camera in Tiamat. Works in stock 3.2 . . . but no way am I going back there.
- Like others I really don't care for the new battery icon.
Again, terrific job Team Tiamat.

It's awesome! I don't mind the battery icon. Just add quick boot and there's a screen capture app (I forgot its name), so I don't care about mod pack (I didn't install it when I was on Tiamat 1.1).
I love the logical placement /naming of the MicroSD and the usbOTG.
All is smooth and working well. I added back ADW Ex launcher and that makes it just perfect.
just cant update maps very annoying.

When you say that you can't "update maps", are you referring to Google Maps? Is it a question of not being able to update the version from Marketplace or something in the functionality of the Maps app not updating?
Thanks
Gordon
{Edit] OK, I have seen the answers from another thread. I guess that you can't update from the Marketplace.

Yep thats it, i tried removing the apk installing the latest it fails, fails on updating and even tried the package.xml edit ( that killed all apps in 3.2 with total FC. had to redo the whole thing from recovery)
someone must have got it to work...LOL

To stop reboots set wifi sleep to never. This is a known issue/solution. There will be minimal battery impact.
Thanks. Already did that. Still, it bugs me a bit. I want the wifi to sleep. Not enough to go back to stock tho.

good stuff - though adw re issues

US 3g - working very well. You mentioned ADW ex working for you... I can't play with the settings (1/2 the screen is blacked out)... is yours OK? The only other quirk I've seen is with Folder Organizer - the "tabs" at the top are no longer tabs, just overlapping words. Otherwise a great improvement over stock with full SD access! Thanks to the development.

If you want to save a little battery, and you're using setvou, just create a screen off profile with the min/Max set to the lowest CPU.

I hadn't noticed the ADW settings issue until I saw it mentioned this morning. Yeah, mine's affected too. It doesn't bother me because there's nothing that I need in ADW settings, but it's weird what does get affected. One of my favorite casual games used to work fine full screen but now it looks like it's phone sized and there's no zoom/stretch to fit setting available for that one app. Go figure?
Thanks for the quick response.
Any wifi users with stock 3.2 using adw ex? Are you experiencing this too?
I tried editing the packages.xml too. No Bueno..... Does anyone have a fix for this?

saw in the apps/themes forum were several others (stock 3.2) are experiencing the same issue... so looks like adw needs to update for 3.2 and not a tiamat issue

Are you referring to Shoot Me, by any chance? I installed it, but it fails to start server or something similar. Is there another app out there to try?

Yes, another one...I'll try to see if I can find it and report back.
i updated today from german MZ601 xoom to 3.2 for Euro xoom (as described here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183416).
first of all, thanks to all in volved for the work you guys put into this. i am impressed with the ROM. i really should not have waited that long for updating the stock honeycomb
the only thing is that my 3G won't work. or rather, it will if i allow roaming in the mobile network settings (even though my sim card should not allow roaming)... any pointers to what i might have done wrong (yes, i am pretty sure i screwed something up here )
thanks in advance for the help and thanks again for the ROM!!!
michael
I have a Google Apps account using 2-step verification, and as soon as I enter my generated password, this error pops up:
Sorry! The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
I followed all the instructions to install the Tiamat 2.0 ROM (i.e. full wipe) and tried fixing permissions, etc. After doing this 3 different times, I believe there is a bug in the ROM handling/syncing Google accounts which use 2-step verification. If I remove the account from Settings, the error stops. (I would post this in the development thread, but alas I don't have enough posts to do so.)

[ROM] Slim Sense to GE/AOSP 4.2.2

This ROM is meant to be the slimmest ROM possible built on top of Sense. I've tried to strip out everything that isn't needed to reduce it down to the minimum amount. I've also made it a mix between GE/AOSP and Sense. To help get maximum battery (and better looks imo) I've swapped the SystemUI.apk out to tyler's GE on Sense SystemUI.apk.
I'm also trying to set it up so both GE and Sense apps can be used and you can choose which you want.
Every app which works on the stock HTC one firmware works fine here.
Currently as the ROM stands it is:
Under 400MB (it's about 380MB).
Uses Trebuchet launcher from CM
Stripped out a bunch of Sense/HTC Bloatware (pretty much anything i found non-essential)
Uses AOSP Lockscreen (auto unlocks for calls, allows widgets)
Has both HTC Camera/Gallery and GE Camera/Gallery
Has both HTC Clock and GE Clock
The only google app installed by default is the playstore, as the rest can be downloaded from it
Known Bugs
After completing the Setup you need to open settings -> click mobile data -> Access Point Names-> and then select your APN
3G/LTE/4G Icons do not show, you still get LTE (you may need to download an App from playstore to enable LTE, any that let you access the phone settings should work such as this one)
Only the GE Phone Works (It makes and receives calls fine)Sense Phone can't place calls (the app fully functions but doesn't make calls, need to find a way to fix this still, if anyone knows how to please let me know)
Currently battery percentage in the status bar isn't working
Feel free to ask any quests/indicate any bugs and i'll try looking into them when I get time.
Version 1.1 Fixed the bug where when incoming calls were answered nobody could be heard

To hide duplicate the icon from your app drawer, open the drawer, click the menu overflow, click trebuchet settings, click drawer, and then click hide apps. The duplicates exist to give a choice between Sense and GE versions

First. ...I've always wanted to do this.
On a diff note. Seems like an interesting concept.
second! very good!!!
can I know where I can find the zip for this MOD: "Uses Stock Lockscreen (auto unlocks for calls, allows widgets)"

It's not a zip. It's just part of the rom. It's already been setup.
Yes this I know, but I whant know where do you have find this mod, because I'm trying to remove the Sense lockscreen but with cLock,Chronus etc doesn't work!

I did it myself, I didn't find it.
Going to load this up over the weekend. Any chance of working in the CM10 theming framework at some point or is that not possible when based on Sense?

Xtheme Engine themes work with GE
This is exactly what i do with any Sense ROM i install anyway. I go to Titanium backup and spend a half hour uninstalling all the crap thats not needed to strip it right down so that the only things left that HTC stuff are the IR blaster since i lost the remote to my TV, and the camera functionality. I always use the codex sound mod instead of beats anyhow too. This awesome! Perfect!
Does it use stock kernel?
Been running for a day now and haven't found anything wrong with this. Works great. Will run a little longer to report on battery life. So far I'm enjoying the experience. If we could just get everything in the status bar working that'll be great. Looking forward to seeing the progress.

Yeah I've been somewhat busy and been unable to look into it. I'll have some time tomorrow and will hopefully fix it then.
The "can't make phone calls" bug seems like a pretty big one.

Flashed this 5 min ago, did a test call to my girlfriend's phone, it was ringing.
But yeah, I think I finally might have found the Rom I'm sticking with. Excellent work.
If I can make one possible request for the future. GE MMS instead of sense. ?
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Edit; it does have the aosp bug where you can't hear the caller after you answer, so you have to call back.

You can;t make calls from the Sense Dialer. You need to use the GE one which is included.

All you have to do is use the AOSP dialer. Works fine from there.

Is there anyway to get Swedish Lang for the keyboard? Thanks in advance

Ugh.. I was super hyped about this ROM until I read this. I have too many people call me and this wouldn't be cool at all.
There is no known fix for this? I cant imagine everyone using CM would be cool with this issue.
Need to keep this alive.
Anyone else confirm the call bug? So the sense dialer doesn't work.. i could care less about that. Just as long as the GE dialer is there and takes calls.
