OK so as you have noticed kit kat does NOT allow third party apps to write to the SD card, this is stupid, but lucky for us we have a fix IF you are rooted
we have 2 solutions
1) using root explorer or something similar go to
Quote:
/system/etc/permissions/platform.xml
and enter the permission that i have circled in red below (see attached) then it will work. Enter it so it looks EXACTALLY like it does below
2) the other option that MAY work is to go to the play store and download SDFix, that does the same thing (however myself and a few others are reporting that it isnt working as it is written)
big thanks to Mr Sam Epic for showing the fix, which came from Unknown Force in a SGS4 forum
****edit 4/19
had a few reports of SDFix not working, it didnt for me, i thought it was just a random error, what i did to fix it was to go into platform.xml and manually edit the permission so it looks exactally like the image below, i put in the extra return after the permission, there is not a logical reason why this fixed it, but it did

Seems like it worked, thanks.
I gave this a try in Root Explorer. I have gone over it many times and I did everything correctly but now Titanium won't launch, Weatherbug won't load, and GAPPS fails everytime. I am using Odin to go back to stock now-- will try the other method.
After write to extsd is enabled, I would strongly suggest the Xposed Framework module Downloads2SD. It allows you to change default directories to the extsd. It seems to work for Chrome downloads as well.
Here's a weird one... I edited the file exactly the way it should be, worked fine... played with a few things, edited build prop screwing around having fun. Boot looped because oops. No problem, Odin to stock. Fresh stock build.
Rooted, Edited the platform.xml again exactly the way required, reboot. Even system apps won't write to SD. Couldn't even install XDA app lol
Odin again, root, edit the xml exactly the depicted way again. Still nothing can write to SD. Wtf.
Anyone have a stock or working platform.xml I can peek at? Something is screwy here lol
I have all the source on my Linux box but I'm nowhere near it, unfortunately.

I agree, I had issues with my S4 after moving to KK also with my new S5. And now with those of us on Verizon, we are lucky enough to have root Thanks to exposed you can start moving files around like before. Its just amazing how controlling companies feel they need to be.... Oh well, thanks for the Root Geohot, and Xposed rovo89 & Tungstwenty!
Excellent! This worked on my N900V with 4.4.2 and root! (fix #1)
I thought my old file browser just wasn't reading root correctly, but with this, it's back to normal/pre OTA function. Thanks again!
Could you please add to the instructions, for option 1 at least, to double-check the permissions on the file? (They should be 644 and root/root). Was helping my brother and just went through lots of problems (everything crashing) and turns out the editor changed the permissions (found the answer on another site where someone described the same symptoms). I'm also wondering whether the permissions also have something to do with why it seems to sometimes not work for people...
Just wanted to chime in and say that SDFix worked flawlessly the first time on my rooted SM-G900V.
All I did was root and then run this utility, installed nothing else at any point, not even SuperSU.
NextApp SDFix works great with my stock rooted SG5. Verified with ttorrent.
One thing I have to say about this is when I did it i had issues with the camera app saving to extsd. So I changed it back after a lot of work on it.
Confirmed working. Thanks for the mod advice. Just make sure to make the edits exactly as shown in the image.
I tried the SDfix apk and it worked only on the root of the SD card. Any file structure past the root did not have rw access.
Now that I can write to my sd, I am noticing very poor speeds. We are talking like less that 1MB/s. I tested it with both large iso files and a bunch of small 30-300 kb files. Both tests are very slow. Any ideas on where to look to fix that?

So I tried this and my ability to use the TextSecure app broke. I reverted back to the auto-created backup (thank you Root Explorer) of my platform.xml file, and it restored TextSecure functionality after a reboot. However, I have been unable to turn Bluetooth on since doing this. The only other change was updating to the latest release of Busybox this morning, which apparently was just released. Could this platform.xml file triggered some other actions upon rebooting that would cause Bluetooth problems?

You can also just use Folder Mount.apk and in the beginning while setting it up iT patches the external microsd and then anything and everything can read and write to the external micro sd. HIT THANKS IF YOU DIDNT ALREADY KNOW THIS..
Thank you very much, evilbeef54! Lol, funny username, by the way. The first solution (editing platform.xml) did the trick for my Xperia C4 (E5303) running Android Version 5.1, Build number 27.2.A.0.155. I edited the file using Root Browser then RB Text Editor, and after a reboot Titanium Backup finally allowed me to save my backups to my external SD Card.

this is matter or i can stay with my Superuser?
i didn't see any problems at any app that use root ,(bloatware removed, lucky patch works, etc)
beside 1-3 problems 1.when i tried to record from call and 2. tried overclock CPU, and maybe rewrite some system files)
the rest works fine

I totally understand that, but are these effects important for the good quality of the sound? I saw that some of the effects included a VoIP handler and bass booster, is removing them going to have any noticeable negative impact on the sound quality?

No. I've been running V4A using this method for over a month now and sound quality has definitely improved in every regard. Flash away.
Just a quick clarification, do we just need to flash it or do we flash, install V4A, remove music fx, delete audio effects... Etc?

Awesome! I just flashed, but it doesn't appear that V4A installed. Reflash?
This does work with 6.0.1 as well for anyone wondering
I got viper and android pay working using eggydrums method here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus6P/comments/3w9fzb/guide_install_viper_audio_with_systemless_root/
You do have to delete /system/vendor/etc/audio_effects.conf as stated in the notes and if you use SuperSU 2.62 you will have to delete /su/xbin_bind folder as well.
I should also note that in order to get viper to start processing I disabled musicfx and removed viper from doze and rebooted. Not sure which one made it work but it's processing now.

+1 here
I got V4A working, however even with Power Saving driver it's draining at a rate of 1% per minute of audio. Before I installed V4A I didn't have this battery issue. Literally minutes after installing V4A, the battery drain while playing audio happens. Nothing else has changed.
Has anyone else had terrible battery when using V4A?
It seems like the developer still uses XHiFi as well.
I'm on the January update using super su 2.62 and I have everything showing supported, yes, processing yes, but there is no sound playing. The neon enabled is the only no.

How did you move the script to the su/bin folder? I keep on getting permission denied

UGH! but i still can't delete or rename audio_effects.conf, or even change permissions

I installed this program and this mod and it's all right with me.
NEON working, working convolver, no battery problem.
Anyone get this to work on systemless?
Hi all, I've had quite a few issues with Viper4android, including extreme battery drain (since installing my phone will drain from 80% to 0% overnight with no use), and inconsistent volume in various apps (Spotify only has about 60% volume output with random bursts to 100%).
How can I remove all of its components and revert back to stock? I'm guessing it's more involved than just reflashing the stock rom, perhaps I need radio files + others too
My phone is a Samsung s6 edge plus (SM-G928i).
Thank you all, and apologies if this is in the wrong place!

Actually, its much easier than reflashing your ROM (though that would work fine too)
All you have to do is hit the menu button/3 dot icons>uninstall drivers>reboot. And you're done.

This just removes the drivers, uninstalling the app after removing drivers and re-enabling your stock audio(if you had to remove/disable it), this should put you back to stock.

By extracting a copy of the audioFX apk from your stock firmware
Or
By extracting it from a nandroid backup if you have one
Or
Find someone with your device and have them upload a copy of it.
Or
Find a copy with a Google search for:
"Audiofx.apk(or whatever the stock audio is called on your device) for (your model number and firmware version)
FYI, you would have had to manually remove or disable your stock audio yourself. It wouldn't have happened automatically, so if you yourself didn't remove/disable it then you probably don't have anything to worry about.

Did you flash V4A via recovery? Or did you install the app manually?
If you don't see the stock Equalizer in your app drawer then it was probably removed during installation of V4A (when done via recovery) but if it was installed manually then the equalizer app should still be installed/visible in your app drawer. All you have to do is open the app and toggle the on/off button.
If the app was removed though, you'll have to reflash your ROM to get it back.
NB 1. If stock EQ was already enabled, you might wanna disable it and give V4A another shot. As I've personally experienced issues with both of them enabled.
NB 2. Uninstalling the drivers practically kills the app. But you can go ahead and uninstall it as recommended by @Droidriven

Yep, my installations on all devices I've had have been via app which required me manually removing/disabling stock audio.
I've encountered installations on some devices that required using terminal emulator or adb shell to implement correctly, slightly tricky stuff that I don't remember the details for.

I'm guessing your stock EQ was deleted then.
Just flash your ROM and you should be fine. Keep in mind though that any other additions/modifications you made to your system partition will be overwritten.
Uninstall Flashed App - Viper4Android
Hey folks,
I am new to xda and so this question might not be appropriate for this particular thread -- I don't know, I guess I'll take my chance. So, upon rooting my android device last week I went ahead and downloaded the Viper4Android audio enhancer as a zip, and installed it through the TWRP recovery terminal. This flashed the app on the phone drive. However, the Viper4Android driver is not installing properly and all my attempts to fix that are going in vain, thus I think the best solution is to uninstall the app and install a new package following a specific xda thread instructions to the letter. So my question is how do I uninstall a flashed app? I can't seem to find the app folder when the installation files are located. The app is present in my app menu. I am a root user and have directory apps like Root Explorer, Magisk Manager, BusyBox, RomToolbox etc. Btw, I've read most of this thread, and it mainly discusses the removal of the drivers. (Which I presume never installed in my phone anyways, as Viper4Android never worked -- hence why I am looking to uninstall the whole thing, and try anew). I have a Moto g5 plus.
How should I proceed? What's the best tool to uninstall a flashed Viper4Android App?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,

Hello please what package did you install to remove the flashed viper android
While I know there are other threads regarding similar programs with this rather temperamental app, I didn't find any thread that fit my case exactly, nor one that really fixed my problem, so.. sorry if this is a duplicate.
Anyway, situation is this:
Viper4Android 2.5.0.5 (installed through magisk 20.0, MM 7.3.5) was working perfectly (or atleast somewhat) before recent update. Now that my phone is on Oxygen OS 10.0.1.GM21BA, the driver for Viper fails to install (it says "driver installed, please reboot etc.", but upon reboot it says "please reinstall driver, etc.", and the loop continues).
What I've tried so far:
>Reinstalling Viper - no difference
>Disabling SELinux (both through the Viper itself and through some outside app that might or might not work) - no difference
>Read that deleting audio.fx in vendor/etc/ could fix this problem - couldn't find the file
>Yelling at the phone - no difference
>Also read somewhere that an issue might be that Viper might be denied storage access permission, but the app don't seem to be requesting any permissions at all.
Anyone have any tips or pointers at what else I could check or try? Music just sounds kinda bleh without Viper.

You need to install drivers twice.
Mhm, sure.
Though, to be honest, this was among the things I tried before. No difference.

Uninstall your current Viper and reboot. Sideload Viper 2.7.1.0 apk or use the Magisk module. Install the driver and reboot. Once back in Android, install the driver again. Should work. If not, go into V4A settings and put in compatibility mode.
Hmm, installing drivers multiple times made no difference in 2.5.0.5, and yet in 2.7.1.0 that fixes everything. I actually thought Tropical Cactus was just taking the piss. Uehh, this Viper and its esoteric rituals.
Anyway, it works now. Thank you for your help.
To repeat my question from another thread, i have the same issue and 2.7 only works for me when the "attach audio effects" option is checked and that introduces quite significant audio lag when skipping tracks.
I also can't seem to get rid of the permanent notification without breaking vipers functionality.
Is there any fix for this? Or a way to properly install 2.5.0.5?

Tried to find that one again, too.
I ended up installing the Audio modification library magisk module, rebooting, deactivating (not uninstalling) that module and then installing the current Viper 2.7.1.6 module.
May have rebooted after that before installing drivers and therefore rebooting again, can't remember though.
But it does work perfectly and the guide did go something like this.
Also possible that a Viper update fixed the issue.
