Received OTA on my sensation today but as soon as it unpacks while installing it ends up with a red triangle. Looked through XDA. Couldn't find anything appropriate.
Any one knows how to deal with this?
The phone is non rooted with everything stock. Running ICS Sense 3.6.

Ok the assert line is the crucial information here because in the script to update it, it checks each individual file checksum and compares it against the one htc put in the script, if they match, it applies the patch, if not then you get assert error on the first apk.
My guess is that you have the 3.32.401.5 ROM whereas the OTA is for 3.32.401.5_R ROM and the checksums are obviously different in the two different ROM versions. My suggestion would be to find the Shipped Pyramid ROM Collection thread by Football in the dev section and download the 3.32.401.5_R RUU, make sure to download 3.32.401.5_R and not 3.32.401.5 then run the RUU and wait for OTA and it should apply without any problems so long as you flash the correct RUU
Also can be a bad download - maybe deleting the file and download again worth a shot.

Why is the update appearing in my phone if ive the different ROM? Couldnt find _R Rom btw.
What I think is that the ROM I've is given an update so compatibility isn't an issue. I'm on stock. Never played with phone. :banghead:

compatability is the issue here, some other guy had same problem as you in the dev section which is why I know what the problem is, I told him what I told you, he flashed the 3.32.401.5_R RUU and guess what? the OTA now works.

Sweeeeet, did what jonny said and it finally worked - now on 3.33.401.6 . It's a shame on hTC's part that I had to go through all this.
p.s. I'm under 10 posts on XDA, so had to remove the link from quoted text.

Android 2.3.4 adds videocalling if I am correct. But we I don't have the official rom on my phone so it's worthless for now. Let's hope some cooks will cook up new roms out of this one.
pardon my ignorance, just jumped ship from BB to android. can someone explain why this release is a big deal? does this release mean that a new slew of ROMs are gonna be slated to come out due to changes in optimization?

Just have a little bit of patience.. It seems S-OFF phones can't flash this, S-ON can. However, while you can turn S-ON again and flash the ROM, chances are you are not going to be able to make it S-OFF again because HTC fixed an exploit used. Just wait for a few hours 'til someone uploads this ROM to XDA as a ZIP file without HTC's bootloader. For example Baad just stated he'll be updating InsertCoin based on this OTA update. That way, you can keep S-OFF and still have the new ROM.

Once rooted and S-OFF, you NEVER EVER install an official HTC RUU. It could patch the root/S-OFF exploit. Don't be impatient and wait for Chefs to cook some ROMs, or face the consequences.
I'll suggest you just flash back your previous ROM, if it's still possible.

for your information this is what bootloader mode look like, if you note where it did say revolutionary it now says "locked"
This is obviously the new hboot that HTC are using now, i can only assume it would change to *** UNLOCKED *** when using the web tool from HTC (although the above phone is already S-OFF)
Mine is also saying that now, gonna have to wait on either the Revo guys to crack it or do the HTC stuff - it does still say S-OFF though

It seems to be update to 3.32.401.5_R taking it up to 3.33.401.6 as it says in file name. Guess this has come direct from HTC as it has '401' in the middle for unbranded hand sets?
Im currently running 3.32.401.5_R so wondering whether I can change to pg58img and flash it through recovery as im completely stock (other than s-off)

When an update goes out, not everybody gets it at the same time. If everyone woke up in the morning and all started updating at once it would be a heavy load on the network(s). Be patient and good things will come.

Did you SuperCID before or have an unbranded phone? Not sure if that is necessary in this situation/with this package but seems better to be safe. If not I would wait until someone picks out the best parts of it and makes a flashable zip with more CIDs supported.

Then how come there are 2 different RUU's from Football, 3.32.401.5 and 3.32.401.5_R
By your theory only 3.32.401.5 would have RUU as the _R version would be OTA. Therefore me thinks you are wrong, I dont know what differences there are between 3.32.401.5 and 3.32.401.5_R but I suspect they are minimal

If you search this thread, you will find the RUU file (executable file that contains ROM, radio and firmware all in one). You just need to plug in, run the RUU and follow the prompts
You didn't specify your model so I'll point out that this is for the Sensation Z710A.

Ok so i went into settings and checked for an update in the att update setting and it said there was one. it downloaded and i opened it when i did it took it tells me something about it being an important update and ask to continue and then tells me the phone is going to restart. when it does it boots into twrp and wont update it and when i reboot and check again for the update it tells me the phone has the latest update when it is still on 4.0.4. Lol lucky he didn't brick or corrupt hboot . There is a version of that here in android to use instead of ota btw
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
To the OP:
-When you take an ota, it tries to reboot to recovery. You have a custom recovery installed, but you have to have stock recovery to install an official update.
-You can flash this thing you downloaded, but it has to be renamed update.zip and moved to the root directory. Then you've got to run a ruu to get stock recovery back on.
-If you have s-on and superCID, installing this OTA will brick your phone.
-The 3.18 ota contains some firmware updates and a new hboot that aren't included in JB roms. But if your phone is running fine, you don't need these.
-You're better off just flashing a JB rom until you understand more about how your phone works.
