[Q] Can't choose WCDMA 2100 band on servicemode - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I'm using the rat unlocked modem, I can see WCDMA 2100 under add bands but when I selecet it nothing happens, its not showing under WCDMA preference.

If you're on AT&T, RAT unlock will not work. Also, I am pretty sure our phone doesn't have a CDMA chip, so that option wouldn't work anyways.

I'm using the rogers RAT unlocked radio. There is WCDMA in the options and currently I'm using 850, my carrier also supports 2100 and I wanna see how's the reception on that frequency.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W-CDMA_(UMTS) it says it's using the gsm core which would explain why it's working and is preferred for me. If I choose the gsm band I don't have radio.
My network is HSPA, which and option for it doesn't exist so I'm guessing that's what the WCDMA is referring.

xda bugged out 1 can be deleted.

what are you entering to get into that mode? Mine says MMI not available.

*#2263# it's only unlocked on the rogers radio

thought so, I'm getting "connection problem or invalid MMI code". I'm running I727RUXLF3 and like everything else on the phone, it's gone to hell too it looks like.

I'm on the same base(using sky ICS tho) and its working, remember you need to do it with the stock dialer.

Are you talking regular stock Rogers dialer or the stock cm9 dialer?

Technically its that specific rom's stock but it's probably a different code at cm9, that's a completely different build as I understand it.

[Q] Samsung Vibrant 4G SPECIFICATIONS

I know the original vibrant was a pentaband phone, supporting AT&T's 850/1900 networks as well as t-mobiles 3g networks....
Can anyone confirm the 3g bands on the new Vibrant 4g?
Will there be fast 3g 21mbps for 850/1900 on the modem chip also? ( or 4g whatever you want to call it, in my book its just faster 3g..)
someone enter the debug screen and check which bands are available...
cheers!

HSPA+ 21 only works with T-mobile, AT&T doesn't use an AWS band, in this case is 1700/2100Mhz.
Someone may have been able to 'trick' the vibrant into using a basic UMTS band on AT&T, but I never heard of it, let alone heard that the Vibrant supported AT&T 3G. The Vibrant has GSM.support for them (2G), I haven't seen anything else.
Where's the supporting documents that people have been getting At&t 3G with a T-Mobile Vibrant?

Trust me.... I'm using a vibrant on at&t with 3g. It does support the wcdma 1900 band. There is alot of evidence of this...heck engadget made a post about this... google it!
Edit: What I was trying to ask is if the galaxy s 4g supports the 1900 wcdma that the original vibrant supported....

That would work....hopefully the galaxy s 4g can be unlocked the same way the previous galaxy s phones could.
In my research I have found that 4G is not backwards compatable with 3G. Someware I read that companys are putting 3G and 4G chips on the new 4G phones to bridge the gap between the 3G chip ability to handle voice and the 4G chip being able to handle data. I can't say for sure if SGS4G has both chips. It's a know issue that the 3G SGS misses calls when connected to a laptop because It does not handle data well in combination with voice. That's why I upgraded to the 4G. I don't think Its going to make a lot of difference until TM gets their HW in place with a backbone that can support it.
Samsung Galaxy S 4G 1900 MHz WCDMA
I bought my Samsung Galaxy S 4G at a T-Mobile store in San Francisco. I subsequently upgraded it to the latest firmware provided by T-Mobile using Samsung Kies.
I usually use WCDMA only mode because GSM causes awful buzzing sound when I use it in my car (I have a FM transmitter connected to my phone).
Anyways, I was curious to see if I'd see AT&T, so I searched for network (still under WCDMA Only mode), and it found both AT&T and T-Mobile.
I pressed *#197328640# in the dialer, and then went to the debug screen/band selection to look at available bands, and it actually does have 1900 WCDMA.
It shows
GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900, WCDMA 2100 (FDD I), WCDMA 1700 (FDD IV), WCDMA 1900(FDD II).
I don't know if AT&T SIM would work since my phone is locked but I can report back once I get it unlocked.
EDIT: Reading an old post of mine, I realized that my memory played a bad trick on me. My tests DID work on 1900 WCDMA and DID NOT work on 850 WCDMA, just opposite to what I wrote earlier in this post. --sorry

I don't think it would work. For reference, here is a side by side band comparison between my Vibrant (tested 3G on AT&T) and my coworker's SGS 4G (locked, untested).
The essential band here is the 850 1900 WCDMA, but the "overflow" 850 WCDMA is missing and I couldn't make it work anyways (I'm in Houston, maybe it is not switched on here).
My understanding is that AT&T usually uses 1900MHz for 3G, and in certain cities where they don't have enough bandwidth in 1900 MHz like NYC and SF, they use 850MHz.. so you could still get by with only 1900 MHz, no?

Yep, thats what I have heard as well. Now one thing of note. When I tested my Vibe, it only worked on the 850 1900 WCDMA band. Could not make it work on the 850 no matter how hard I tried. I'm in Houston for that matter and maybe this 850 WCDMA is not enabled here.

I'm currently unlocked on AT&T and i'm on 3G. I ALWAYS have an issue with upload speeds, but otherwise download speeds are just fine.
I attached four photos, of the available bands with my CURRENT galaxy S 4G unlocked on AT&T.
Also, a speed test I ran. That download speed is WAY higher than average because it was taken when the network was under the lightest usage possible, late at night.
Oh wow, over 5Mbps download on AT&T?
Are you on AT&T's 4G (HSPA+) or 3G?
I'm supposedly on T-Mobile 4G (my phone shows 4G when I download/upload), but I don't ever get 5Mbps. I get usually something around 2~3Mbps down and 1Mbps upload. I'm in the Bay Area.
I went into phone debug page, and one of the screens says HSDPA[0], HSUPA[0]. It also says network status: HSDPA (sorry I don't have the exact info on me right now).
Am I really just on HSDPA, not HSPA+? Is there a definite way to find out what my phone is using? Thank you.

Technically I'm on HSPA+, though this phone doesn't even cover all of the "necessary" bands.
Look, to edit what bands you're on go into the market and download SGS Tools.
Then, go into the first line (Secret Codes) and hit Band Selection.
I'm on AT&T so I'm not sure what bands you need, but you can manually select them in there.
To check the band you're on, go to GSM Status in the "Secret Codes" page again.

Oh I know I'm on 1700/2100 MHz because that's the only frequency (AWS) that T-Mobile uses for WCDMA/UMTS/4G/3G.
I downloaded Phono, and it says Network Type is HSDPA. Shouldn't it say HSPA+? I'm just wondering if there's an easy way to tell if I'm really on 4G (aka HSPA+) as opposed to 3G.
I actually messed around with debug settings last night so I'm worried that I screwed it up....
Thank you!

Which debug settings did you change?
And as for Phono (which I've never even heard of/used until now), my phone says HSDPA as well, which, quite frankly, makes no sense. I guess you can technically get speeds of around 5MBPS on HSDPA but it's not typical.
You should easily be able to tell whether you're on HSDPA or HSPA+ with the 4G/3G connectivity icon. in your status bar.
Now, I'm no expert, but hopefully that answers your question.
I played around with GCF settings. When I go into debug mode, there was something about choosing Rel.6 or Rel.5 or cancel settings.. And then also, if you do *#3214789#, you can enable/disable GCF Mode.. which I have no idea what it is about....
Thanks!

Try restoring using ODIN yet?
I mean, if the phone is that messed up since you messed with that setting.
I put my friends att sim in my unlocked sgs4g to test and the 3g sign came up by the bars as well as the att operator logo didn't really test out speeds but im guessing that the 3g sign wouldn't have came up unless it was really picking up that frequency.

Force 2g. Is it possible and how

Most of the reason I rooted my phone was to be able to force my at&t Skyrocket into 2g mode. I get little to no 3g coverage at work and when the phone switches to edge (2g) I get almost full bars. I have tried cm9 rom which has a known issue with forcing 2g anyway but gave it a shot. I also had aokp with no luck. And yes, I went to settings>network>use 2g mode on both roms. Then I went after radios......I know at&t has a rat locked radio so I thought I'd be clever and try the rogers rat unlocked radio. Got really good data speed, call quality, and signal other than work of course. But still didn't allow the force 2g mode. Tried the *#2263# or whatever and it won't even bring up a menu on at&t phones which is understandable because its a rogers thing. Then I tried the trusty ol *#*#4636#*#*. Wouldn't do anything either. Suggestions anyone? Or maybe its just impossible....

You can force the Skyrocket into GSM-only (2G/EDGE), but your ROM has to support it. Sky ICS does, not sure about others.

Greeting from Hong Kong.
I encounter the same problem. The 3G (WCDMA2100) signal at my home is too low (<-110dbm) to make a call but my Skrocket could not switch to the 2G network (GSM900 with -85dbm) automatically. I wonder if anyone has an apps that could switch the phone to 2G mode through the servicemode menu (*#2263#, 3, 6) and then back to 3G mode (*#2263#, 2, 6).
Bender mentioned that a Sky ICS ROM could do it. Please let me know where I can obtain this ICS. Thanks very much.

Install RAT unlocked modem, *#2263# and picking specific band that is supported by your provider suppose to work. Tho it's not gonna work on CM/AOSP based roms. It will work on att phones.

I am able to change to 2g mode only now. However i was wondering if there is a possibility of automating the process via an app, instead of using the *#2263# via the dialer?
For G only: *#2263#, choose option 3 GSM band preference, Then GSM 1900 I did not get 2g on this option but I hear from others that you can.
For 2g only: *#2263#, choose option 3 GSM band preference, Then GSM 850 Never dropped to G but has the possibility to.
For 3g/HSPA only: *#2263#, choose option 2 WCDMA band preference, Then WCDMA 1900 or 850
To return to normal: *#2263#, Choose Automatic.
I don't have LTE in my area but I believe you can choose LTE B17 from LTE option to have LTE only. Didn't buy for LTE but because it was the best device (specs) through AT&T at the time.

[Q] how to get phone to move from 2g to 3g 4.0.4

well im new to android i moved from blackberry a couple days ago
anyway i have a problem i cant get my phone to move from 2g to 3g,its the at&t version and im currently on the digicel jamaica carrier
iv went into mobile networks but there is no option to change so i tried dialing *#*#4636#*#* as i saw on the forums but i didnt get any popup or anything
im running stock android 4.0.4 and my phone is rooted and unlocked..any suggestion ?
the att modem won't let you change the frequencies. Keep reading about the bell modems it looks like you need 900mhz umts/hsda but the att modem won't use that frequency for anything about edge. I think the bell modem opens up 900(not sure about the T989 as I don't think t-mobile uses 900 for umts).
The frequency bands are fine (digicell uses 850 & 1900 bands for 3G, just like AT&T). There's a lot of confusing info on the net, most of it because GSM and UMTS (3G) frequencies are different and people get confused.
You need the correct APNs entered to go 3G.

[Q] Can't turn on 1700 band

Hi All
I have a problem, and don't really know that to do. I have a Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4g, rooted, running the latest nightly and modem. Recently I went on vacation to Europe and while there used local sim cards from t-mobile Eu. At first nothing worked, Then I read some forums and from there learned of the *#*#4636#*#* code. Used the Select Radio Band option and switched to the Euro band selection. All was well Europe SIM cards worked Data, voice everything.
I get back to Canada, and I figure I need to switch back to the USA band. So I do. but still no service, no voice or data. I can get roaming. but that's not really an option. I see the network operators Bell and Rogers, but no Wind or Mobilicity(who use the 1700 band). I'm on wind. So to me it looks like the 1700 mhz band is turned off on my phone.
So far I have tried...
Used the *#*#4636#*#* multiple times switching bands...
Tried using the settings menu to select wcdma preferred or global
Re-flashing the modem
Flashing to the newest nightly
Tried a verified good SIM card
Nothing works....
I'm thinking I may have to go back to the stock t mobile software and try to turn on the radio there...
So does anyone have an idea what could be missing? Or how to specifically turn on the 1700 mhz band? The select radio band pop up only has two options Euro band and USA band.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Okay!
So I think I'm back up and running, all AWS networks in Canada show up. Haven't tried data or voice, but I'll be doing that on the way home from work...I'll post after if things still don't work...
So these are the steps I took....
1. Using CWM I did a full back up to an SD card.
2. Then using CWM I flashed the stock JB firmware from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41209211&postcount=1
3. In the Dialer app. I dialed *#197328640# navigated through the gsm, lte, wcdma options and set the band selection to automatic.
4. Tested phone on stock to see if it picks up the networks...and it did!
5. Using CWM restored my original cyanogenmod install with all settings and software.
6. Tested network connectivity again, and the networks now show up.
On the way home I'll do some tests with data and voice.
Looks like everything works! woot!
It looks like there's a bug in the band selection code. It should be offering you the AWS frequencies, as well an an automatic everything choice.
I'll look into a fix for apexqtmo. In addition, I will nuke the CDMA options, they're not needed and probably causing other problems.

Photon Q works on T-Mobile LTE

Hi All,
I was recently on holidays in the USA which using my Photon Q sim modded by Cornholio I was able to get LTE on T-Mobile. This was only in areas where they have re-farmed 1900 mhz (band 2) to LTE. I'm not sure if this makes a difference but I also changed nv 6828 for 1900mz bands 2 & 25. So in theory LTE should work on AT&T where they use 1900 mhz band 2 LTE. AT&T was was coming up a lot when I was doing a network search. It is listed as AT&T 4g.
Regards,
Sebastian

Hi,
This is what I did with my phone to get LTE was the following: Using the phone dialer
*#*#4636#*#* and in phone information menu change data to LTE/GSM/WCDMA
##3282# and in the LTE menu make sure that you have LTE as enabled, if not edit the value to enabled. You need to use the msl code for your phone to do this. I have an app to do this if you need.
To see if AT&T 1900 LTE is available in your area, go into settings, mobile network settings, network operators and choose the option search networks. A list of available networks will come up. If you have AT&T 1900 LTE band 2 available, this will be listed as AT&T 4G. Tap on this and you should be able to get LTE. The Photon Q lists LTE as 4G in the status bar on the top of the phone.
Hope that this is some help
