SPH-D710 can send but not recive MMS - General Questions and Answers

I have googled, I have searched, and I have tried changing APNs with a working phone of the same make and model. Ever since I bought this phone I have only been able to send MMS to everyone but can only receive from people on Sprint. I have gone through dozens of roms and currently settled on Calkulin's E4GT 2 ICS rom and otherwise everything else but that works.
Also, I do understand that I need to make any APN changer in ICS a system application and I know how so I know I didn't make that mistake. My roommate who owns the same exact phone has always been able to send and receive MMS from everyone. So if anyone could tell me the solution to my problem it would be greatly apreciated.

Hello,
Also S-OFF (although XTC not Alpharevx) also rooted and running LBC v0.5.2 and now v0.5.3. If your signature is to be believed also on same RADIO.
I'm on T-mobile in the UK and have just this minute tested and I've no problem with sending and receiving MMS.
Hope that this helps....
Have you got a custom rom installed?
I did mine last week and have had no problems with MMS.
I've tried CoreDroid, LBC and I'm currently on Virtuous Unity and no problems on any of them.
Maybe you could try reflashing your rom.
Did you select the correct O2 set up when you first flashed i.e. O2 PAYG, O2 Monthly.
You may have selected the wrong one as I believe they have different settings, though I may be wrong.
It is Ben took your advice on what to install .Internet works fine and so does txt and emails ,so not sure what it is tried adding new apn but no joy.Well it aint a big loss people can email or use whatsap if they want to send me pics.
Ta for the reply though
Would trying to reflash the radio be any good?

I can't imagine that it would (although I may be wrong) I would have thought that if your texts, phone calls and your data works then your radio is ok.
Must be something in your config as @stonedandhappy suggests....either that or a local network problem?
If your phone is network unlocked then try to borrow someone else SIM to see if it will work from your device which will at least rule out the local network or identify the device as the problem.
Yeah re flashing the radio didn't work. Will try the other apns and then the sim though I think this is locked to o2.
Cheers lads

I was having this problem so was my wife. Data was down for a few hours one day due to a outage. After that for about a week mms was hit or miss. So its probably a outage I'm your area give T-Mobile a call and fond out for sure. Also could be your apn settings. Try restoring apn settings back to default

Got a picture message a couple hours ago, no problem here.

MMS over WiFi?

I'm wondering if this is a problem across the board. Lately in have been running a few different ROMs. Hyperdrive, moar and the most recent moar 5.0.1. I have noticed that my MMS won't go through while I am on WiFi. I don't know if this has been a problem for a while and I haven't noticed it. I really like the app textra, and unjust started using it the other day. I thought that was the issue. Uninstalled it and I am still having the problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

I really hope someone has a cure for this because it has been driving me insane. I shouldn't have to turn off wifi every time I want to send an mms to someone!
I'm on MOAR 5.0 v13

I'm thinking it's a rom issue because I just wiped my phone and installed cyanogenmod and I can send and receive mms messages over wifi without any trouble
are u using a network extender by chance when your on WiFi?

I always thought it was a network thing. I thought they required you to send and receive MMS through the cell towers because they're stored at Verizon servers before being passed along to the recipient. I had the same issue on my LG Ally, haven't tried MMS over WiFi on my gs3, but now I'm curious.

No, I'm not using a network extender. Interesting thing tho. MMS will not go thru at all on MOAR or Hyperdrive. I flashed bonestock 3.1 and when I send an MMS over wifi, the 4G turns on (so now the wifi icon and 4G are on) and it will send the MMS.......hmmmmmm
MMS / SMS are both sent over data networks, as this is the only way VZW can count how many you send, thus being able to bill those who do not have unlimited text messages. (this came from a VZW rep when i called in to get a work order on my phone, as mine wouldn't work)
When the S3 first came out, there was an issue with the devices as a whole, fully stock and unrooted, having problems sending text messages when the phone was on WIFI. The process is, when you hit send, it will shut off your WIFI, switch to data, send message, and then switch back to WIFI without you noticing it.
however, in the beginning, there was an issue with the phone doing this. AND this was even before rooting the phone. VZW and Samsung had to do a fix for their radios to get the phone to work correctly.
so what you are probably seeing, is an issue with that switching, not that the message won't go over WIFI, cuz unless these DEVs have figured out how to make messages go over internet instead of data network, then the issue is a ROM issue with the switch.
hope that makes sense...

Unfortunately, this is the answer that is most often given, but not very helpful (no offense). I think the majority of people with the issue at this point understand that MMS is sent via data networks by design, the problem is, it is not functioning properly. It is NOT shutting off the WiFi, therefore it is not sending at all. I've had different periods of success, where it'll work for a week, then back to the same ****. I've never rooted my phone, so it's a stock ROM issue that still remains.
always had issues sending MMS messages on roms other than stock when I was at home with my network extender...I kept messing with the APN settings last night... I changed the other thing to GSM and tried to connect to at & t towers.. after it failed only then it would have multiple choices of APN settings ..I have all the roaming options checked and the LTE/CDMA is checked...I've been able to send MMS messages with no problem now.

Just an update I'm on liquid smooth 4.2.2 and it automatically turns network data on if I have it off in order to receive/send mms. This is what I was looking for.

[Q] No data with custom roms

Looking for some help, please.
I have a T-Mobile G2x P999, unlocked. I am using it with a Straight Talk AT&T sim card.
Running on stock, I have no issues with data connectivity.
However, I have been unable to obtain data connectivity with any Custom ROMS. I have tried a few (including Genesis). I am currently using the Paranoid Android P999 CM9 ROM. Except for the data connectivity issues, I am really liking the ROM.
I have the ability to make calls and send texts. But when I look under Phone Status, it says "Unknown" phone number, etc.
I have tried adjusting APN settings, as well.
I have searched forums high and low both here and on other sites, with no luck. I apologize if I have repeated someone's question, but if it is out there, I missed it.
Does anyone have any ideas? I appreciate any help you can provide.
I have the same problem with the phone of my mother
this nigth I am goint to update the baseband to see is work later

MMS not working

Ok. So I have come into possession of an unlocked D850 and I am using it on the t-mobile network. Everything about the phone works fine except MMS. I have tried several different APN settings and still cant get picture messages. LTE is working fine on Fast.Tmobile.com. I have tried everything I know how to do. Even tried flashing a couple custom roms (cloudy/CM12) and still no MMS. Anyone got any ideas?

It's most likely going to come down to APN settings. Unless somewhere in your T-Mobile account is blocked.

I am on AT&T and installed Adblock Plus and lost mms, it is a known problem with AT&T but don't know if it also causes problems on T-Mobile.
I dont have adblock installed. The apn settings im using have worked on my Nexus 5, Moto X, LG g2, Htc One, and literally every other phone ever!. Ive flashed back to full stock rooted and still no mms. It cant be the root messing up my MMS could it? My bootloader is unlocked, Im on TWRP with superSU and bussybox. I tried to post screenshots of My APN settings but since im a new user it wouldent let me.

I believe you are correct however I have tried every T-mobile APN setting I can find. Now for the weird part. I installed AOSP on the phone and it would send MMS no problem. So I checked to see what APN it was defaulting to and copied that then flashed back over to stock, plugged in the same exact APN and still no MMS. Im so confused. Why would MMS work on AOSP but not on stock based roms?
