Guys, I have a huge problem. I installed DPI Modder Pro the other day and set to 160. Everything was cool until I realized I could not make a call after installing 7/1. I see the time increasing and the other person I'm calling is getting the call but I can't hear anything, sometimes though its just stuck on "dialing" yet the other person's phone is ringing. I luckily backed up right after installing the 6/30 nightly but I can only use the phone after the first boot from a restore. If I reboot, calls are gone again. Can't make them, can't get them. I flashed back to stock via Odin and was able to repeatedly reboot and have phone access with rogers 2.3.5 stock. I did a clean CM9 install and like usual, the first boot ran the call no problem but after a reboot, nothing. I don't know what else to try. I've fixed permissions, wiped with CWR, you name it. I'm stuck on 6/30 and I can't power down or reboot or I have to restore to get calls back.
Please help. PLEASE.

Try installing a custom from like embryo for Samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket and install it and apply a radio, the developer has a list of the radios which are compatible. Afterwards make sure your data is turned on sometimes when I turn off my phone and reboot my settings get rearranged to where I can't use the web with 4g etc. I hope either of this two things help you out mate
Good luck.

Thanks man. I love CM9, things were going perfectly with the nigntlies and all of a sudden this. It's such a kick in the balls man, from laughing it it up with the sickest ROM to not being able to power the phone off. I'm at a loss here, I've tried everything I can think of. Like when you flash stock with Odin then do a clean install of CM9 you'd think the problem would be gone. Nope.
Try out embryo. You'll like it
It works, its fast, you get S voice, and you get the newest touch wiz launcher if your a fan.
---------edit------------
Wrong post above. I am sry mate I hope you find a way to fix it. Make sure you wipe cache and dalvik. However, their is a way to fix it and I hope you find it.
Samsung Galaxy s2 Nuclear Rocket - Embryo 3.2 [UCLE2 BASE]
iPhone 4S - Gave it away, not cool enough
iPhone 3GS - Went for a Swim

I went from loving this phone to wanting a bus to drive over it. This is bull****.
You can't lower the dpi to anything lower than 190 on cm based ROMs
Sent from my SGH-I727
u do realize its ur own fault right lol? this is a well documented issue, the phone.apk won't work with anything below 190 dpi, thus the reason for ur distress. Turn it up, or search for a modified phone.apk that will work at that dpi that was kicking around in the cm9 thread, but you'll have to look a waaayz bacl
No dude, you don't get it. I've wiped. I've Odin back to stock, full wipe all the way. I rebooted a few times on rogers ics stock and it worked. I then installed cm9 from the ground up using the chopsticks guide. It went perfectly, then, after reboot, boom, no calls. This is with 240dpi in tact.I can text, wifi, data, etc. no problem. But phone, nope. Any reboot of any kind kills the phone, regardless of dpi. I have the modified phone.apk, no difference.
pls help

From a reboot I always open up my browser and let it load a webpage, followed by opening up Google Play and letting it load. Then I open the phone and test a call. 9/10 times it works doing it that way. I think the radio isn't loading first like it should be or something. Either way, that's my workaround for this phone I hate/love.
Im back to stock 4.0.3 and now workes fine

Well, let me start from the beginning. I am sorta of new to the whole android modification arena, and the sidekick 4g is my first android phone, but I have learned a lot since june and so it's not like I don't know most of my way around the low level software hacking and such. I was there when clockworkmod was released, and I was there when smooth maximus was first published, I know what is going on, and what is in recent sidekick 4g hacking news. That aside, I rooted my phone around june 10th ish, and it was fine. Then I installed clockworkmo, and with a few forum reading I managed to fix all the litte mistakes I made and everything was fine again. Then I decided to flash smooth maximus gingerclone v1 after become more comforable with the whole idea(skipped over the first couple of smooth maximus ROMs). And part of tmobile android is having an app called tmobile contacts backup. EXTREMELY helpful for a person like me, I hate having to put contacts back in, and syncing from gmail didn't solve my problems either, it just wasn't the same . So I could freely download this app from the market wenever I pleased, with no trouble. Getting it back on my phone after flashing gingerclone v1 was no hassle. Then a few days ago gingerclone v2 came out. I followed the same procedures as before, but fell into a bit of trouble when flashing gingerclone v2, ad gingerclone v1 would keep booting up anyway. But I eventually got it working by just kept following instructions again and again. And before I flashed, I backed up a few apps with titanium(great app)(and made a NANDroid backup of course) but I didn't back up tmobile contacts backup because I thought I could just download it from the market(forshadowing). So I got gingerclone v2, and I tried downloading tmobile contacts backup and it was gone from the market. Just plain disappeared. And I looked on other websites, some no link, some saying it had been removed. Then I got the the online market on my computer, and google said that the app was not compatible with my sidekick 4g, not when it had stock ROM, or when it had custom ROM. I was confused. So I did what the poster of smooth maximus said to do if we wanted to keep our apps when we flashed over. In recovery, go to backup\restore>advanced restore> restore data. And all my apps were there(not functioning, but a simple reinstall would fix the problem. But I couldn't reinstall tmobile contacts backup because I couldn't find it anywhere to download. So I decided to restore my entire nandroid backup and I had gingerclone v1 again, but a lott more app were gone(including market, etc.) And I was used to this happening(didn't know if that was a good thing though) and so I couldn't download titanium backup to back up tmobile contacts backup and try gingerclone v2 again. So I decided to ODIN to stock ROM. Seemed easy enough, I had already lost everything, why not try it?(forshadowing). I followed ayoteddy's guide exactly step by step, and when I did ODIN, it got to the last section, and then said FAILED(on the computer) in the box as it turned red. I tried it again and it wouldn't do anything so I figured all I could do it just try and boot up the phone. I did, and it showed the sidekick bootloader but with the android logo flickering along with it. It booted and did all the female robot voices(patitioning...estimated time: 2 minutes, etc.) And then it booted just fine. It really started to mess up this morning, freezing rampantly and going back to a black screen with the android logo and light shining across it(like the windows 7 loading bar) and about an hour later all of a sudden it stopped messing up, everything was quick and jumpy and fast(for a stock rom, it was as fast as smooth maximus gingerclone, and I got a quadrant score of around 1500!, weird I thought so) I double checked to make sure it was stock rom and it was. So I decided to try to root it, and superoneclick rooted it, and always got stuck at putting su in system\xbin, it never got past that part. So I had to leave it at that. I want to ODIN again and try to make it work, but I have no way of getting to "download" mode and doing it. Not through the software, and I tried the volume +, trackball, power combo and it has never worked(trust me, I've tried). So I was hoping maybe you guys can tell me I'm doing something wrong, I'd really like to hear that right now. How do I get to "download" mode without rooting? Maybe take me step by step to do it the hardware way. I might even just root it through adb and make sure everything goes right? Any suggestions would be nice. Thanks in advance everyone for your help!
Sent from my SGH-T839 using Tapatalk
Wow.. you went through alot for that Tmobile backups app. but i have it posted in my TouchMIUIwiz ROM thread . Heres the link Tmobile Backup
And heres how you get into download mode. Just remove your battery, open odin and load the pit into the pit slot and the tar into pda, then plug your phone in without the battery. Now this part is a bit awkward but it works 100% , while holding the vol down and trackpad put the battery in. you must put it in while holding that button combo and you will get into download mode
and BTW it was running so fast on stock cause the lagfix was enabled (thats what that voice was doing)
Oh gosh thank you! I need to look more often. I really appreciate your help ayoteddy. After i follow those directions I should know how to handle the rest! On a sidenote, I am a HUGE fan of your work, without people like you and all the other developers who give each android phone a fair chance to flourish(especially the good ones), android would be...not as good as it is now. Once again I'd like to thank you for your help and I hope everything goes fine!
so, I've done download mode and tried ODIN. I get the same fail message. I will continue but I would like to know if this will cause any problems in the future...

wow. everything worked out great. i feel like i am treating my sidekick 4g the way it deserves to be treated; with gingerclone v2 AND tmobile contacts backup. thanks again!
Okay, I'm basically going to just copy and paste my issue and edits here from the Zeus thread I couldn't get any help on. The edits are so anyone who actually read this can see what I did and have been doing so they don't suggest something I already did.
So the other day, I tried to flash to the Doctorz ROM and of course, made a Nandroid backup. After messing with Doctorz, I went back to Nandroid or clockwork recovery (whatever it is) and after restoring, I was on another modem and stock kernel. I tried to reflash Zeus and wiped partitions cache and dalvik cache and now I'm having serious issues. I have my SIM card in my phone, but it keeps telling me I don't even though it's there. Even weirder, I have one or two bars even after I pull out the SIM card. Earlier, it was detecting that I had a SIM card, but said "Invalid SIM card" or something and now whether it's there or not, my phone says it has one or two bars even though I can't do anything. What's going on??
I've tried rebooting several times and activated Wifi and airplane mode, but had no luck. SIM card's in right now, but my phone says no service.
EDIT: Forget it. I just did a factory restore and wiped everything and reflashed Zeus.
EDIT 2: Okay now I'm having other issues. My phone recognizes my SIM card again and now I'm getting my normal signal, but I can't do anything wirelessly, like send a text or use up data. It SAYS I have signal and am connected to the HSPA+ network and the arrows are flashing and whatnot, but I can't do anything wireless. I can't go into the market, send a text or use the internet browser. Someone please help?
EDIT 3: Okay, I was wrong on that last part. My texts weren't going through because of bad signal, but I definitely have no data AT ALL. All I have are a few bars, but nothing about 3g/EDGE/HSPA+. I think this is an issue with APN settings?
EDIT 4: Messed with some APN settings... kinda back to square one, where the H+ shows up and I get Edge sometimes (I have bad signal where I'm at) and the arrows are flashing, but NOTHING. I still can't use the market or any data at all.
EDIT 5: I just decided I'd try to be next to my router and turned on Wifi... my phone would not pick up a signal from my router at all, and it works just fine. I'm starting to think this is a modem-related issue...
EDIT 6: Okay, I kinda fixed the problem, but my data speeds are SUPER SLOW and sending one message takes a really long time. I know I have bad signal, but it's never been this slow, even when I manage to pull up two or three bars. I tried messing with build.prop, but as I'm on Zeus, the settings were already fixed up.
EDIT 7: Okay, the Wifi issue was because I used the wrong WEP key. Oops. After I managed to connect though, I couldn't get any data. My phone just doesn't want to use up any data apparently? I reflashed the modem Zeus normally uses and now if I manage to get some data, it's unbelievably slow and can't use Wifi data.
EDIT 8: I forgot to mention that if I don't get to connect somewhere with data, my phone will just tell me there's no data connection or whatever even though I have two bars. I tried to fix permissions and rebooted, but no luck.
Someone please help. This is really annoying.

Damn! That's a lot of edits. Odin back to stock, and start from scratch. But remember to do a factory reset from Phone, go to settings, Privacy and erase everything. that will clean up everything that you have there.
That's the only option I see will fix all your problems

Yeah, that's all I could come up with. Thanks anyway. I did that a few minutes ago and flashed Zeus. I'm just waiting for my phone to load up. I tried to let it load up, but it kept saying not enough data on the partition or something. I probably shouldn't have tried to flash Zeus immediately after flashing back to stock. After I went to CWM from flashing to stock, I immediately tried to flash to Zeus, but had issues. I'll take the blame for trying to rush and take shortcuts. I'll see how this goes again though.
Okay, after flashing back to stock with Odin, my phone loads up and does the "Rethink possible" thing when you turn it on and after that, nothing happens. The screen just stays off. If I press the power button, nothing happens, but if I hold it, it just reboots and goes back off. This is just annoying...
EDIT: Okay, it worked the second time. I have no idea why as I did nothing different, but it works. Now I'm gonna try to flash Zeus again.

Faint,
I got lost trying to understand what you were trying to ask.
Gtg unbrick is prob the best option.
It's usually best to describe the system, setup, the bug and the attempt.
Then pose the bottom line question.
Check my last sigs link.

Well what I was asking originally was how I can fix the problem I was having, but flashing back to stock via Odin helped. Now I'm having ANOTHER issue... after FINALLY having fixed up everything, I tried to restore some stuff with Tibu, but then my phone started saying a bunch of processes were force closing or something, so I tried to reboot and now I think I'm bootlooping. I'm stuck at the "The Collective" thing that shows up when you boot up your phone and it doesn't do anything. It'll go and do what it normaly does, go black and start up again, then come to a complete stop and repeat the process. I then went to CWM and tried to wipe factory settings, cache and dalvik cache, but I'm still having this issue. Geez, it's one problem after another, and all I wanted to do was restore my apps. On the bright side, I DO KNOW flashing from Odin helped because once I regained control of my phone at the way it should be normally, I had my normal data speeds and didn't have issues with data. I'm going to try to fix this bootlooping issue now. :|
EDIT: Escaped the bootloop(?). Thank God... I honestly thought I'd have to flash back to stock with ODIN AGAIN and then redo everything.
Hey, so another question... before I flashed to stock and everything, I backed up all of my apps with TiBU, but now I can't find them; the restore file(s?) so I can get all of my apps and their data back. Was it saved to the internal SD card? Because I formatted that after backing up...
EDIT: Never mind. I looked around my SD card and... ugh. All my apps are gone and so are my backup files for the apps. Great. Thanks anyway, you two.

If you did a factory reset from within the phone, it will erase everything...
After you odin or heimdall a stock package, and flash a new ROM, don't restore tibu or apps. Download new.
Occasionally they get corrupted and cause you phone to soft boot

One more thing to add on to the TiBu thing, when you restored your apps what option did you use? If your restoring the batch options only select "missing apps with data.". Any other option and you run the risk of getting constant FC's.

I have found this to be the best for me also, new ROM...fresh install of all apps...so easy when you have the apk's, I just put them in a folder, then to my sd and install away and if I need to update I look that app via the market and update that way, or via the desktop pc thru the market online.
I found this site very useful has all my apps I need/require:

^Yeah I didn't use that option because it had a zero and didn't let me do anything, so I tried another option. I can't remember which one, but yeah I did get constant FC's.

Yeah, it seems that's the best way to go. Even though I backed it up with CWM, I didn't expect it to not backup the kernel and modem. I realized the kernel part a lot sooner, but after having a lot of texts that didn't go through the way they normally would, I thought it was an issue with my phone and then I decided I'd check the modem and found out I didn't have the KL2 modem I'd normally have.

Well I already had everything figured out by the time everyone said something, but I appreciate the effort and tips nonetheless.
Evening everyone-
Having some issues I am hoping someone can help me with.
I have a rooted ATT HOX on 1.85 that is having some major problems. I started this morning by trying to flash the Magnolia ROM after being on one of the Cleanroms.
I guess the download was corrupt and I received an error while flashing in CWM and was then stuck in a boot loop. I did the whole RUU deal going back and was able to get back on 1.85, root with super user, etc. but once I got back into the phone to setup I noticed that none of my contacts were syncing after signing in. After playing around a few more minutes I noticed the Messaging would crash after being open for a few seconds with no Force Close warning. Occasionally I could go into a text but after trying to respond or type anything it would revert back to the previous page.
Contacts is a complete no go. As soon as the app is opened it crashes. Same with phone. Absolutely can't use any of the three core apps.
I then tried flashing a variety of the roms and even using the different recoveries and have had absolutley no luck getting the Phone, Messaging or Contacts to work on anything. Even stock RUU 1.85! The only thing I have had luck with is the AOKP port which is working ok minus the phone audio being botched.
Any hope here? Any idea what the deal is?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!
Do a full wipe and install the ROM.. this should take care of it
I am also having this problem. I tried doing factory restore from TWRP 2.1.8 multiple times. Re-locked the phone and reinstall RUU 1.85 and still have issues.
Can you explain further what you mean by full wipe?

I think I figure out how to fix our problem. I was on re-lock status and stock RUU 1.85. I proceed to unlock the bootloader, flash cwm, go into advance, and select fix permissions. I also wipe everything while I am here. After reboot, I am able to set up e-mails and sync contacts and make calls again.
Hopefully, the same will work for you too.

Can you explain further what you mean by full wipe?

In recovery, wipe data, cache and Dalvik.
Thanks for the responses. To be honest I did factory resets and wipes about 15 times in total...between all the various available roms, the factory 1.85 and a combination of anything I could imagine. Nothing-and I mean nothing-would work. Finally I put it as close to stock as possible and brought it back for a swap. I couldn't find anything at all to help rectify the situation or any info on what in the world may have caused it.
To those of you stuck-good luck! Sounds like it was only a handful that experienced it...hope you get it sorted. Would love to find out why it happened though!
Best of luck!!!
did anyone ever figure out the problem and how to fix this? ive been screwing around for an hour just clearing the data from anything related to contacts or google sync, and even people and still can't get my contacts to sync.. everything else syncs fine my calendar, drive, etc. just not contacts!! grr... any help would be much appreciated. if i figure it out and know how i did it i'll post so others don't waste as much time as i have.
edit: it all started when i tried to flash clean rom using CWM (it said not to but i missed that part lol).. so i ended up having to relock my bootloader, unlocked it again, flashed 1.85 RUU and then finally i was able to boot my phone past the HTC screen.. after that i booted into TWRP and flashed cleanrom. that is when i noticed contacts won't sync, phone book, sms etc. just close when i open them..
tried everything suggested in this thread and still no luck
current status: I decided to flash CWM again, and restored a nandroid backup i had from a while back.. which is a stock rogers rom. contacts r syncing fine.. question is. when i flash to cleanrom 4.0 again will it break the contacts sync again? i sure hope not.. we'll find out tomorrow lol sleep time!
ok so installed cleanrom 4.1 again today and all is working well..
i guess the solution is:
* somehow obtain a stock rogers or att rom (1.85 ruu should work for most)
* once thats installed use fastboot to flash CWM or TWRP
* boot into recovery
* clear cache, dalvik cache, factory reset / clear data
* install custom rom (in my case cleanrom 4.1)
* Reboot phone and check if ur contacts r syncing properly
such a messed up problem hopefully this helps anyone else who runs into it..
Re: [BeanStalk][1.179] Phone freezes after call
I am currently running Beanstalk 1.179. I've noticed with this build, and with at least one prior build I can't recall, that after an incoming phone call of at least a few minutes, the caller hangs up, and shortly after, my phone freezes. I'm all cases that I've noticed it, I've answered the phone while it was locked, and it returns to the lock screen before freezing. I've got the lock screen configured to use a password.
I can't recall anyone else mentioning this previously, so I thought I'd mention it. If it's not happening to anyone else, I'll assume it's my own problem.

Thank you for the idea. I was just going over in my mind the ROMs that I have installed since I purchased the phone with an early version of scott.hart.bti's ParanoidAndroid already installed, and while I did not experience the issue with any of the ParanoidAndroid versions I installed, I believe I did also experience it while I was running Unofficial CM10 briefly between PA and BeanStalk. Perhaps the problem is indeed my own device, or something more deeply in the build source than with the build(s) themselves.
FWIW, in almost all instances when I installed a ROM, I always followed the entire procedure recommended by scott.hart.bti, including wiping the dalvik cache, as I did with my most recent install of Beanstalk 1.179.

as you become more familiar with flashing a rom and the principles, you will find that the cook book process may help but some times you may have to deviate from it to make it work.
ex: sometimes you may have to flash cm9 twice to get into the boot screen ..or flashing cm10 twice or reboot twice..or wipe a few extra time.
from my own experience, you have noticed something not working correctly..(sd not recognized, calls being dropped, app FC's and no one else had the same) you may need to start over...back to gb stock via heimdall or odin and work your way up.
the more i had screwed up and had to go back, there more i learned each time.

Interesting. I remember that it took me forever to build up the courage to update ParanoidAndroid the first time, and scott.hart.bti's clear and complete cook book process certainly helped get me there. I have broken one of the Beanstalk ROMs once, too, and had to look up how to boot into CWM from power off to reflash.
I'm curious why going back to stock would make a difference. It seems to me that if I a doing a complete flash, wiping everything, than it shouldn't matter if it's a stock ROM or a new ROM. I'd be more nervous about breaking something if I going back to stock, since is a more complete and drastic change.

yeah...for the most part, while in cwm, factory reset, wipe system, data, cache, dalvik and then flashing a new rom work very well.
occasionally, for what ever reason that i'm not sure, going back to stock..changing file system back to rfs and then changing back to ext4 may be needed to fix certain problems...not common and not routine practice, but is needed...at least imo
OK, fair enough. I will read up more on going back to stock so I'm not unfamiliar with it. Which tool do you prefer?
For completeness of troubleshooting info for anyone else who may be reading, I received a phone call yesterday while the lock screen was disabled, and the phone still froze after the caller hung up. I received another call today, and made sure I hung up first, and no freeze, my phone was fine.

Everyone has their own prefs...I prefer heimdall. It doesn't matter. Whatever it takes to get the job done. You prolly should buy a usb jig too.

Hi all - This is my first post and I am sorry if I'm breaking a rule. I have tried searching for a resolution to this issue before joining up but could not find anything specific to my phone, rom, issue.
Background:
I rooted my phone a while back but for some reason never flashed to a custom rom, just wanted the root. Last week I flashed after some trial/error to AOKP. I cleared the data/cache and did a fresh install of AOKP 4.2.2 with the 2013-03 package of GAPPS. I installed my Titanium Backup'd apps overtop via the app, not an update.zip.
Situation:
My voicemail notification is not going away after I get a voicemail. I will get the notification (sometimes quicker than other times) but after I call my voicemail, listen to the message and delete it the notification does not go away. I have to go into the Phone app-info and force stop/clear data for the notification to go away.
Phone details:
Sprint Samsung Nexus S 4G
AOKP 4.2.2 (goo.im-devs-qnhoang81-crespo4g - aokp_crespo4g_unofficial_2013-05-25.zip)
GApps gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
No custom voicemail program - typical Sprint voicemail setup.
If no one is aware of a good resolution with my specific setup, I would also appreciate suggestions of ROMs w/ latest Android that fellow Sprint customers arent having this issue with on the Nexus S 4G.
Thank you very much and I appreciate your patience if I did something wrong with this thread.
I've had this happen with slimrom. I either did a funky flash or found some other way of mucking up my install.
I eventually just did a full wipe and have been fine ever since.

+1 to doing a full wipe (then adding) re-install...
If a full wipe and re-install doesn't fix your issue with the rom ( as I can't speak for app behavior ) flash back to stock and start over, remembering to always back up your data first..
Thanks guys, thinking back I went from stock 4.1.1 to AOKP 4.2.1 then to AOKP 4.2.2. I thought I did clean installs both times. Is it possible that something with my Backup apps is causing the issue? Like if I'm restoring phone settings from a previous version to the new version?
If that didn't fix it.... go into settings/ Apps scroll along the top until you see ALL apps and scroll down to phone...clear data...
