Hello everybody,
I wish to get more involved in the XDA development community and was wondering if there was anything I can read to get myself jumpstarted on developing ROMs. I have a pretty good knowledge of tech and am a fast learner of tech. If you guys can can you point me in the right direction.
Thanks much

With every new device I see this question. There are plenty of getting started tutorials and guides out there already. Use Google and you will find just about anything and everything you need. It all depends on what you are looking to learn.

I just recently got my Htc inspire 4g, and was thinking of rooting it. I have done a couple of searches on different custom roms, but can't decide which one to flash. I would really appreciate it if someone would give me advice.
PS, i am still new to the forums and really don't know were to post . Thanks

I know you're new so I'll cut you some slack. But please search before posting. Tons of these threads open up all the time and they're always closed. The best way to find out which ROM is "the best" is to flash some and see how they feel. They're all awesome and a lot of hard work has gone into all of them. We can't tell you what your personal preference is - you'll need to play around and figure that out for yourself. Which, let's be honest, is the most fun part of this whole process.
Exactly, we'll thank you very much

My favorite rom is Super Mario Brothers ALL-Stars for the SNES it is a great game........ Wait is this the wrong forum.
Hey XDA talk with me, about a year or so ago i got an htc inspire 4g and I been hooked on android ever since. Finally realized i spend way too much time doing it to not get paid for it. Soooo.....I'm completly self taught and I know enough that these threads are no longer Greek to me. Which is easier to create and or maintain high quality, high fuctioning.....apps? .......or ROMS?......Maybe kernels? I can't decided which would help me grow into a established developer.
suggestions?
comments?
cuss outs?
let me know about it
With one or two apps and a rom in the beta stage, I would say app developing is way easier.
In rom development, there are a lot of areas to manage, which makes app development easier
Thanks

So does SDK work for ROM development too?

U don't need the sdk for rom development.

I usually wouldn't make a post like this but this has been by far the best community I have been a part of since having the EVO 4G a few years ago. I don't always post replies but I'm constantly reading the posts and all of the great advice and tips all have posted have been great. Also the amount of maturity and professionalism is top notch here as well! I hope to see you all on the ATT One forums in the near future!

Yeah - I've had a few different devices and been in a few diffeernt XDA forums and his one is pretty good.
We can thank developers like utkaar099, turge, scrosler, bpbear and rohan (amongst others) for taking the time to provide excellent support for the roms they create. Guys like exad and redpoint73 are also very patient and helpful in spreading their knowledge and advice.
Enjoy it while it lasts though - I think we might lose a few to the HTC One......
I have to agree . I thought those guys on the captivate and Atrix HD forums were good , but the guys on the one x forums have taught me so much , not to mention saved my phone twice !

OK I am having Happy Gilmore flashbacks. "I AM GOOD! You know what? You're a lousy kindergarten teacher! I seen those finger paintings you bring home and they SUCK!"
Alright seriously though, I have only kicked around the HP Touchpad and HOX xda forums and both of them are great. The TP dev'ing is slowing down just because its an older device but the thing didn't even come with Android so its a miracle that they even got it up and running. The fact that CM10.1 is currently semi usable is amazing.
For the HOX dev folk, its great(er). I have people ask me all the time what handy dandy new phone they should get but I keep telling them to get a last gen phone and come to XDA like I do. The HOX devs pump out so many great rom choices that can be used as (and are in my case) daily drivers. Sure I bounce around a bit but thats because I'm an unrepentant flash whore. With the inclusion of pie controls, ribbons and most recently HALO, the amount of customization is... alright I ran out of adjectives. Suffice it to say, THANK YOU dev community!
I can beat you all. I came from the htc vivid forums. Nuff said lol

I really am glad for this community, especially the guys at the Sense 5 port post for their hard work getting the rom up and running.

Hey,
If anyone with good experience in unlock, root, flash etc would be willing to support me live some day while I root flash rom etc. Would be great. Probably nothing too much, I sort of know what to do but just as the feel of a safety net in hangouts. Any volunteers just PM me

Just post here if you need any help. So other users will benefit from the answers you will get. Just rememer to search before asking, because people here become nervous if you make questions that have already been answered a thousand times!
Heh, thanks for your reply. Already finished all.
Wasn't tricky at all. Running liquidsmooth rom.
Just for future rooters : it's not that hard and scary as it looks.
