Play store FC when going back to GB? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I've been using ICS for a while and I wanted to go back to GB but I can't get the play store to work. I've tried Hellfire, CM, and EB with the same problems. I've downloaded Gapps from different places and even the tweaked versions and same problem. I am on the latest BB but plashing over the fix is suppose to fix it even on GB.
Anyone else run into this?
Here's a extensive run down of the flash I run from ICS:
Run Nullifier Dual-Wipe 2.0.6
Install Rom
Install Fix
Install GApps
Fix Permissions
Reboot
Let phone sit for 15+ mins
Log into phone w/out putting in the google info
Restart into recovery
Fix permissions 3x
Reboot to ROM
Go to Settings and put in my Google Account
Reboot to recovery
Fix permissions 3x
Reboot to ROM
Open GApps ... Force Close always happens ...
Thanks in advance
Edit: ICS works fine but I do want some of the functionality of GB that ICS just doesn't have yet without the official drivers released.

Dang you do about 3x more steps than I do when switching ROMs, have you tried clearing the market data in the manage apps menu? You're flashing the right Gapps for whatever GB ROM you're using also?

Yeah, that's a lot but I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything.
I did try to clear data/fix permissions/reboot... same problem.
And yes, I downloaded the "tweaked" Gapps for HFP and the Gapps from Cyanogenmod when using CM7, ect. Nothing seems to work. And it's only for GB, ICM doesn't have this problem. It doesn't make sense to me unless it's something in my google profile that's doing this.

Well found a fix
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582422
It's working now with the 3.5.16 version. I can finally go back to GB.

[Q] About to throw this XOOM into the wall

Hi there,
I have a UK WiFI xoom, and everything was working fine. I installed the ICS AOSP rom, and no issues.
The problem started when I updated the AOSP ICS rom, and the gapps, Now I DONT HAVE MARKET access. The loading circle just goes round and round till it says 'connection timed out - retry'. The GTALK doesnt connect either, it just says 'signing in' till it goes 'offline'.
Right now, I am on the EOS Wifi ICS rom.
Here's what I HAVE done so far to fix it based on ideas in this forum and others (trust me, I search before I post:
- Factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik before every rom install
- Installed every single ICS rom there is, with the recommended google apps
- wiped data on the google services framework
- Installed different version of gapps
- Shut down the firewall on the HOME NETWORK.
It just doesnt work anymore. It used to connect fine to the home Wifi earlier but something just went wrong somewhere and i cant track it down.
Any help would be appreciated.
you have any more info like does your xoom show you are connected to your wifi? do you have any other wireless devices and are they accessing the internet fine? are you flashing the right gapps package?
yea, Wifi is connected fine. Alternate markets like 'slideme', and browser, gmail, maps app etc work fine without problems.
I have flashed the latest gapps package as recommended by EOS rom makers (v. 10 i believe)
after installing the eos mod, did u restart before installing the gaps?

First, take a deep breath. It's probably something small that's causing the problem, no doubt.
Some of the EOS Nightly are more stable than others. I would recommend wingray nightly build #56 (very smooth and stable) with the 10.4 GAPPS flashed immediately afterward. First wipe cache partitions, then dalvik cache (in advanced) then flash the rom and the GAPPS, then reboot. This should work very well for you. If you feel the need to do another data wipe, do that before anything else.
IMHO, no need to flash stock images 1st. Just flash on top of your current rom.
Good luck!
ok- will try and respond with results. thanks for the patience/

Hi - I did the steps exactly as you said (with a full data wipe). Still getting nowhere?
Any more ideas?
Go back to stock US recovery ROM. Start again.
Also no idea how to fix it (as nothing previously worked), but the symptoms seem similar to when you haven't accepted the agreement that pops up on new google framework (?) version. Won't let you use market or gtalk.. has happened to me before.
Before flashing, try an extra wipe: wipe system (in some recoveries also called "format system" ). I have been saved by this more than once.
Tapatalking
I always wipe dalvick and cache partition. Install ROM from SD card, followed by latest Gapps and then use the fix permissions in advanced settings before rebooting. I have never had a single problem and have been using EOS Wingray nightly since release 11. I am sure the fix permissions is the key to this. No need to do a full wipe if you are on the same ROM!

You can only go back to 3.0 or whatever it is. t will update to 3.2, and then hopefully ICS.
On tablet, so can't quickly find original motorola dev website - try Googling. Here is link to post with hosted firmwares anyway..

Have you tried accessing the market through the browser? You will need to sign in...that may reestablish your link. I can't see why you need to go back to stock Honeycomb. It gets complicated getting cwm recovery back on (to stick).
I had a similar issue on my DHD. It turned out that your language needs to be US English.
Hope this helps

[Q] Market wont open on ICS/CM9

Hi, I just flashed the ICS ROM for my g2x and also running CM9, everything works great but only few problems I found. My market place wont open up. I tried re-flashing the ROM but that didn't work. I also tried installing the Market APK file but that didn't work either. I cant even install apps through the browser. Any ideas as to why and how I can fix this?
Also I cant sign into any of my Google accounts and my clock app doesnt work, The alarms are still running but I cant open the app or edit the alarms. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you quickly tried reflashing it?? I had to do reflash mine like 3-4 times before I get everything working right..... Weird that technology has to be this way!

GApps not working with CM7 ROM

I installed the CM7 port and the GApps, but my Google apps don't show up. I've tried reflashing the ROM and the GApps package over and over and clearing all the caches to no avail. Help?
you have to flash GAPPS separately. refer original post of CM7 thread and you will find the link
That's what I did. I flashed the ROM then I flashed the GApps, but they're still not showing up.
Ok that's weird. Can you pinpoint the exact steps you performed from download to copying to erasing to booting up? Each and every step please.
Sure thing.
I downloaded the ROM and the GApps package from the ROM's thread and stored the files on my desktop. While the downloads were going, I booted my phone into recovery and mounted the USB storage. I then plugged the phone into my computer and copied the files over before ejecting the USB device and unplugging the phone. I then wiped the user data, the cache, and the Dalvik cache and flashed the ROM, then, straight after, the GApps. I wiped the user data again just to be safe then rebooted back into the OS.
After it didn't work the first time, I downloaded the GApps again and copied them to my phone again, this time within the OS instead of the recovery. Rebooted, wiped user data, cache, and Dalvik cache, flashed the GApps, and nothing.
Not being sure if it was the ROM or the GApps package, I flashed the MIUI beta then flashed the GApps (using the same sequence of steps mentioned above) and it still didn't work, so it doesn't seem to be specific to CM7.
Ok try these steps:
1. Download the ROM
2. Download GApps from here: http://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
3. Wipe the big 3's (user data, cache and dalvik-cache).
4. Flash the ROM.
5. Flash Gapps.
6. Boot without erasing anything.
I followed your instructions exactly but I still have the same problem.
Interestingly, if I go into the list of installed applications in the settings, Market (but no other Google apps) shows up but it's greyed out and I don't have any options to run it or anything.

Crap. Something's really not right. Can you give it a try with the SuperOSR ROM? Need to see if it's specific to the CM build.
EDIT: Can you try searching for the Market .apk file around the forum and install it manually? It should be somewhere in Themes&Apps section. Give that a try before trying with the SuperOSR ROM. Wipe, re-flash ROM, flash Market.apk, reboot.
Reason: the gapps provided by CM team are old (v2 market) and it might be that Google does not support v2 anymore since they've switched to Play Store. (not sure).
I did try with the MIUI ROM and the same thing happened, I don't think it's specific to your ROM build. Perhaps my phone just doesn't like Cyanogen's GApps package? No idea why that would be though.
Anyway, I did as you suggested and installed an APK and it worked! I found this one on Redmond Pie and put in the SD and installed it with the file browser on the phone. Seems to work fine so far

Awesome!
While you're here, a bug I've noticed that's only popped up on your ROM is that, when I turn the phone off, sometimes the orange light stays on and the phone's completely frozen up until I pull the battery. It's only happened twice but I thought it might be something to look into.
Other than that, it's very good! I'm enjoying it, keep up the good work

It's a CWM based problem. Update your CWM recovery to the latest one from the CWM thread in the Dev section and you are good to go.
Way too many CWM's in two sentences..
I'll do that now, cheers
Glad to know you are up and running, but it's still quite strange. Every time I flashed CM7.2 (it it was quite a lot of times GApps were there, Market included. Just running the Market app would actualize it to Play Store automagically.
Of course, as Alex says, it may not be supported by Google anymore, but still you should have gmail, etc from the zip file even without a working Play Store...
The issue was probably related to CWM, if you have an old enough version it could be messing up with the zip internals, but sometimes it's just anything else... (I installed the first CM9 alpha rom w/o problem, the second one wouldn't install, one week later, doing exactly the same with the same zip file, it installed flawlessly)
It may also be related to the specific terminal, I have noticed that depending on the device type (country of release, free or network operator locked, and so on) terminals behave a little bit different in some aspects (e.g. my GPS stopped working after unlocking the bootloader and was only fixed when I reflashed the radio firmware after getting S-OFF; and now, with the CM9 alpha, my keyboard won't get backlight while it's dark outside but adxl's is working fine, which is bad for debugging purposes, of course )
If you could make a backup and install SuperOSR and see if everything works fine the first time (even if you go back to CM afterwards, as I did) it may help to understand the issue better... Or maybe just posting your phone's specific data (model, build, country, etc) may give us a hint.
We know that free UK terminals are somewhat different to Spain free terminals, and those are a bit different from Orange or Yoigo locked terminals... It may be related to hardware batches out fro the factory, who knows?
Enjoy your ChaChaCha!
I think the problem was my CWM in the end. After I upgraded it (that alone included some trial and error, eventually the fastboot method worked) the GApps zips worked fine.
So if anyone else has this problem, check your CWM version and upgrade it if you need to
Can i Upgrade CWM without any change of my current OS ?
i actually couldnt go to Market after i flashed GServices. I downloaded newest Google Play in HTC Chacha apps, installed it and it work until now (of course wit GService flashed before).
Btw, how can i check my current CWM. Thanks!

Hello there!
I've came by to add my issue, similar to yours.
I was on CM7 too and wanted to try the SuperOSR ROM. I used the common steps for flash it (all cache Wiping and factory reseting, ROM installing, Gapps installing), rebooting my phone, connect it with a Google account, launched Gmail and then when I've arrived at a certain level of my mails, the app crash...
For the Google Play app, I've got a server connexion error...
It's like if all the Google's framework was here but totally not stable...
I've tried with an another ROM, the MUI ROM and everything works...
Like I said, I came from the CM7 ROM wich was working...

Hi, I registered in this forum just to say THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was searching for that appropriate GApps for the CM7 I installed previously with the GApps for Ginger Bread (not the same with this link you posted) and it gave me a headache too. I tried flashing for 3x & the Gapps were not working. Then I tried this link and VOILA! Now my smile is from ear to ear.. so SALAMAT! (Tagalog word for THANK YOU). I'm from Philippines anyway. I bookmarked this page for future reference. A million thanks to XDA Developers and it's helpful members & thanks for welcoming me even I'm a noob..:laugh:

How to troubleshoot issues

Ok I have been learning how to and moving forward with flashing different ROMs.
I am currently running a 2.3.6 GB on my Infuse.
I am looking to go to ICS however I want to understand better certain issues I am having with my phone.
Its not every time but I will click to open my applications and wait but nothing happens.
If I lock my screen and then re-open my applications will be there. (this part is consistent)
Now Im also getting a lot of Force Closes - I even uninstalled and re-installed applications and still get the same force close when I try to open with one exception where that fixed the problem.
I tried the fixed permissions from Recovery mode but that did not help.
So I have better than 50% of the time where my applications wont open but locking and unlocking causes it to pop open.
I have several applications that i keep getting force close on.
I also have times when things seem sluggish and times when I go to unlock my phone and its froze so that I have to pull the battery.
I use the Go Launcher and its utilities like Power Master and Task Master to manage battery and tasks and it seems to do a good job and has a lot of people recommending them.
What I would like is a way to be able to evaluate and determine what may be going on and resolve it.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
If one Rom doesn't work for you, try another one until you find one you can settle on for a while.
Remember to always do the appropriate wipes when switching roms, and be careful when restoring apps & data, as it can sometimes cause issues.
I would recommend to give JB a try if you haven't yet.

I was going to go to JB but have heard its still a bit buggy.
I used Go Backup to restore applications this time around.
I have used a variety of Backup and Restore options to include nandroid, Titanium, AppExtractor however Go Backup seemed to do my apps, sms, mms, contacts and so forth the best.
If you can refer a better process for application backup and restore when upgrading / changing ROMs Im all ears.
Not buggy for me. Cm10 & paranoid android are pretty solid.. have not tried the others but I believe they perform well too.
I use mybackup pro, just personal preference. I find it simple and works for me.

I have tried CNA , MIUI, PA, CM10 and Cypher AOKP ROM (my current one). All are pretty stable. Just be aware most, if not all, are MTD based and going back to ICS (different format) can be a process. Also back up EFS using Infuse toolkit just in case your IMEI disappears.

I suspect your problem is related to Go Launcher and the other Go apps, particularly if you are using one of their builds from the last 6 months. If I were you, I'd backup and do a full wipe and install of one of these GB ROMs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613523. Restore all your apps except the Go apps and see how things run. Go Launcher provides more functionality than any other free launcher, so you'll have to get used to that. I moved to the free ADW launcher when I was on GB - it's kind of simple, but there are some nice themes available for it.
Also, don't use the GO utilities!
Of course, you could move to a JB ROM. They are all pretty good and stable. JB, however, has some irritating bugs and some apps don't function properly on it. I'm using Paranoid Android 2.0. It's really good, but not quite as fast as the straight CM10...

Neither. I believe ODIN and Heimdall are more for recovery.
If you have GB now, download the ROM(s) to your phone and go to CWM and install the zip. Make sure you follow the instructions on the OP of the ROM (wipe/factory reset, etc). Don't forget to install GAPPS too.
And if you want to flash JB, go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878458 (great guide, also shows how to go from GB to ICS first...follow those instructions).

Ok I was reviewing the link you gave to upgrade and had a couple of questions.
9. Flash ICS, then ICS Gapps - this step refers to ICS Gapps
Once it boots into ICS, turn off and remove your external sdcard.- Why do you have to pull your external sdcard?
The in the section for going to JB it says
5. Flash Gapps - Is this a different Gapps file?
Just curious...
Having the SD card has been known to cause problems...best to remove...you can put it in later. ICS and JB have different GAPPS. Look for the link to the correct GAPPS on the IP of the ROM you decide to use.

My USB drivers say USB Composite Device. If you are going to leap from ICS to JB, it probably doesn't matter which one you flash...most of them are really good (I used UNi-yuma-PoRN when I was on ICS). I have used several of the JB's and everyone likes what they like. Try them all and see which one you like best.

I found it however when I click to download it says it couldnt find it.
Is the gapp just based on the flavor ie. gapp for ICS, gapp for JB and so forth or are they more specific to the ROM?
Hopefully can flash one tonight but if not - tomorrow.

I found it however when I click to download it says it couldnt find it.
Is the gapp just based on the flavor ie. gapp for ICS, gapp for JB and so forth or are they more specific to the ROM?
Hopefully can flash one tonight but if not - tomorrow.

ICS GAPPS were used across the ICS ROMs. Some played around and created inverted GAPPS (black screen, white letters) but ICS had GAPPs and JB has GAPPS. Not sure why...probably due to the different file formats.
Also the mirror in the first link on the OP is down...some upgrades. Try the other mirror

I just re-downloaded it from that link without a problem. You might need to clear cookies, cache, etc from your browser and retry it. Of course I downloaded to PC and moved the file over to the phone. And you are on GingerBread?
Google has a lot of suggestions:

Unfortunately, Android keyboard has stopped

I installed CM10 on my AT&T HTC One X and can't type anything as the keyboard keeps crashing. I've searched all over the net for a keyboard to install but everything like Swype requires you install it from the phone directly which I can't type on. Does anyone know of a solution to this crashing issue or somewhere that I can get an alternate KB?
Here's the issue, the keyboard keeps crashing and the home button doesn't work either.. the phone just vibrates when I press it. I installed the CM10 nightly build plus the gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip GAPPS. I've been searching all over and search keeps breaking on xda so I can't find much on here right now.

Try rolling back to the most recent stable version.
The new JB keyboard crashes on me whenever I try to save anything, but I'm running it on a Sense rom.

So you can't even interact with the "Select input method" dialogue in the notification pane? Because you should be able to remotely install a new keyboard through Play. Then once it's there, you can switch in the notification pane.
I'm having the same issue. Tried installing CM10 coming from CleanRom. Did a wipe before install.
Not only keyboard for me, home button doesn't work correctly and I cannot launch the browser.
Went back into recovery, flashed CM10 again, preformed not only a factory reset but also did a "system" wipe.
rebooted and things were fine.
rebooted back into recover and installed gapps, things are hosed again.
reproduced on gapps 4.2 and gapps-jb-20121130-signed.zip

I can't even log into my google account, I can't get a keyboard to appear to type with.
OK,
Factory Reset and wipe "System"
Install CM10
Use gapps from 1011 - gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
Things are working.

I can't seem to find Wipe "System" in the Factory Reset. The only options I am given to wipe are the data and cache which I have tried doing and afterwards reinstalling CM10 and GAPPS-jb-20121011-signed.zip yet the "Unfortunately Android's Keyboard (ASOP) has stopped working" still pops up
I know you have tried one of these but ill quote what Inflatedtitan gave to me when i had the same problem.
"Sounds like there could be a few problems so were gonna go with the most popular ones lol..
1. Sounds like you didn't wipe everything in twrp before you flashed. Make your you always wipe cache, dalvick, factory reset, and system. Then flash Rom followed by gapps.. then reboot
2. Have you restored from a titanium backup? If so, make sure next time its ONLY user apps.. if you restore system apps and data, think of your system settings from one Rom clashing with the system files from your new Rom. They won't play nice together. Only backup and restore user apps+data
3. If the above steps were taken correctly, I would delete the Rom.zip from phone. Maybe download using a different browser. Chrome browser is notorious for corrupting roms.. you could have had a bad download

With these steps I got my ROM working so maybe it could help you.
The issue y'all are having is coming from the newest gapps. Install a older gapps and you will be up and running. I had the same issue on my tab 7.0 and hox and reinstalling new gapps worked

I had the same problem as others here, keyboard would stop working as soon as my One X started. The above fixed it. I only wiped System, did not Factory Reset. Make sure you're using the above version JB Gapps.
I've seen this issue when I accidentally forget to wipe something. I've found I have to wipe, flash previously working Rom, THEN go back, wipe and install new rom.
