Output Video to TV - Thunderbolt General

Does anyone know if this product:
Micro USB to HDMI® MHL Adapter
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10833&cs_id=1083314&p_id=8805&seq=1&format=2
Would work on the HTC Thunderbolt to output video to a TV?

I don't know but for $10 how much is going to hurt if it doesn't work? I like the idea though.

I just got a response on another forum that it doesn't work. Apparently the thunderbolt doesn't have the MHL adapter capability.
So is there any other way then to get video on your TV from the Thunderbolt?
I have never been able to get the DLNA player working on the phone. If that is the only way then I would appreciate a how-to guide on getting it to work.

Don't rhink the thunderbolt has dlna or mhl.

dlna does work with the thunderbolt. I have used windows 7 media center and a smart TV with Wifi to send videos and music. It can be a little slow, but it may have been the Wifi network I was on. If you don't have a built-in media share app on the rom you are using, you can find some on the play store.

USE twonky works great u get a free couple of uses after that have to pay

Dlna works not mhl . I've tried

How about something like this: HTC Media Link. I'd provide links, but can't due to the number of posts I have, but if you Google HTC Media Link you should find info.

Due to the Inspire not having an HDMI port, the answer is NO

It is actually possible. Twonky Server can stream audio, pics and movies over a WiFi network to a compatible device. I use my XBOX 360, I think there is a list of devices on Twonky's website. There is also the option of streaming via DLNA, if you have the hardware for it. I have not tried the latter.

Just tried this using the HDMI adapter from my ladies Samsung Infuse and when I plugged it in it made HT Locations pop up with no option to output video to my TV. Oh well.

The DNLA streaming works great, I have played around with it but don't have much need for it. If you have the hardware, it's a great option and easy to use.

Anyway to get Android Phone to wirelessly display on big screen tv?

I want to be able to beam wirelessly what's on my Android Charge phone to my large screen tv... as we know the Android Charge has an HDMI output.. but I want to do this wirelessly... I found out that Bluetooth is TOO slow for this use.. I just got a laptop with the new Intel WiFi built into it.. just wondering if it's possible to use a technology like this with the Android smartphone?

DLNA is your best option. HDMI wireless adapters are over $100. Why not just use a regular HDMI cable?

well this is my issue... I have a big screen tv that I'm looking to cancel my ridiculously expensive monthly cable on (that I don't even get HD with btw). I have a Boxee Box hooked up to this tv... the Boxee Box is great for local content on my LAN, for Netflix, Vudu, etc. BUT... I really want Hulu+ and it doesn't look like that is going to be coming to the Boxee Box anytime soon (if at all ever).
So I was thinking... I could use my Droid Charge smartphone to run Hulu+ on it... but then I would need to get that video content onto my big screen tv... I don't want to keep my phone plugged into the tv via HDMI cable.. so I am looking for a way to transmit the video from my phone to my TV.. not sure if this is possible?
What about vnc? You could have the viewer on either the boxxee box or laptop. I believe there are vnc clients in the market. Only problem would be sound. Also , why not connect the laptop to stream via HDMI to the TV.
Btw quality would be unbareble from this phone . I'd be surprised if it was watchable

If your tv is internet compatible, then you can do this.
tappin' that....
No the tv is not
Being that almost every television made in the last two to three years ago has internet, (including mine) I'm intrigued by this post.
one thing I may experiment tonight is connecting the Charge to the TV via HDMI wire, and use the "Viera Link" on Panasonic TV. This Viera link supposedly allows the TV's remote control to control any device when connected via HDMI.... will post results later.
however, I have seen with an internet TV that the "allshare" app does show a movie file on the tv wirelessly, just could not get the movie to play.
the FIOS remote app though, does allow me to stream photos on the tv wirelessly.

It can output HD video fine. I had no problem watching HD videos from movies downloaded with my MediaHub credit on a 42" HDTV (well, no problem after I got around the DRM).
Keep in mind, for whatever you're trying to play, if it's DRM protected you may be unable to play it over an HDMI connection.
Do tell how did you get around the drm?

Some of the earlier GB leaks (like EP1W) seemed to not have DRM fully implemented so you could output video if you connected the HDMI cable after starting video playback. I'm assuming this was "fixed" at some point but not sure when.

Of course the only way to get HD video displayed is to output HD video. That's kind of self evident. If you're not streaming media stored on the device, that limits you to using the HDMI output.
That means either connect the phone with HDMI cable or spend $150+ on a wireless HDMI kit and try and get that working.
The easier route would be for the OP to hook up his new laptop to the TV (assuming it has a DVI/HDMI output) and watch it that way. He may have to put down $30 for a cable, but at least he won't have to keep his phone tethered to the television.

Would bw nice if one of our esteemed developers could unblock that either via updated rom or app. I would certainly pay for that - to get nfl network to display on my tv from my phone.

MHL to DVI

Just in case anyone is interested, I just got this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0PG0822857
and it's working perfectly fine with my 22" Samsung monitor on the DVI input. I'm actually using it right now , I also paired my bluetooth keyboard. There is one issue with it, not sure if it's a ICS thing, but I can't figgure out why the youtube videos don't work, it displays the first frame of it but won't play. I'll digg into that later...
It also has a usb port witch is used for charging the phone.

Thank you! I needed one for my older Dell monitor that is lacking HDMI. I'd rather have one that is confirmed to work than having to go through the whole buy/return ordeal if I had issues. Thanks again for testing and posting this. I appreciate it.
Can someone answer a few questions on this?
Do the Nintendo/sega emulators display ok using this adapter?
How about videos played from the sd card with either the stock video player or Dice?
Thanks!

[Guide] AllShare Cast Dongle Update

Just updated to the LJ02 firmware on my AllShare Cast Dongle and have noticed a few improvements
Video and Audio quality are noticeably improved
I no longer have to reset the dongle in order to re-connect. However I still have to reboot the phone before connecting.
I have not tested this myself, but according to Steve Kondik (Cyanogen), the update makes the dongle compatible with 4.2 miracast.
Only negative is that I feel like there might be a slight increase in lag.
Here are the steps to update the firmware on your AllShare Cast Dongle.
To install this update you're phone must be running a TouchWiz ROM with AllShare Cast. It appears that Verizon is blocking the update (of course) so you will need to follow either of the following to update.
You can download the AllShare Cast update apk.
OR
You can modify your build.prop. I set mine to the Sprint S3 and it worked no problem.
Modifying your build.prop requires root access. As always, I recommend running a Nandroid backup of your system partition before modifying your build.prop.
And of course, I'm not responsible for any damage you do to your phone/dongle from following my guide.
Backup your build.prop file (system/build.prop).
Modify your build.prop to the below values (I use build.prop editor)
ro.product.model=SPH-L710
ro.product.name=d2spr
ro.product.device=d2spr
Reboot your device
Download the AllShare Cast update from the Google Play store.
Connect your phone to your AllShare Cast Dongle and accept that you wish to install the update.
Restore your build.prop file or manually set it to the following:
ro.product.model=SCH-I535
ro.product.name=d2vzw
ro.product.device=d2vzw
You may need to reboot your phone in order to connect to the dongle after the update installs.
I hope this helps somebody out there. Good luck and enjoy your new firmware!
just uploaded the update without changing my bulid.prop but i would be surprised if verizon was blocking it..... they block everything!!!!!
second that you were right it was the allshare cast update not the dongle update what!!!! the hell why is verizon blocking this...

Up to this point I think the attitude has been more "wait-and-see" with Miracast. It still is a little buggy, but I am really liking it so far. Being able to watch content on my TV from my phone without wires is a real game changer imo. For example, a couple weeks back my wife and I wanted to watch Lord of the Rings in order to get psyched up for The Hobbit. I have all three movies on my PC, so I was able to stream them to my phone via DLNA and watch them on the TV with AllShare Cast. It was a real round-about way to watch them, but it worked great!

[Q] gettung allshare donglw to work

Ever since the 4.1.2 update (could be coincidence) I have not been able to use the dongle. It connects, then says "Current AllShare Cast connection will end".
I have a GT-N8013 and a GN2 SCH-I605, both not rooted.
I spent about an hour on chat with Samsung and ened up with them telling me to call tech support. It seems there are a lot of people who have this problem, but they are usually rooted and can fix it, but no answer for us non rooted people.
Any suggestions?
Works for me.
Try an reset the dongle. Clear cache of allshare app on your tablet.
And connect dongle straight to tv... bypass receiver if you are using one.

If you've tried it, and it fails, then the receiver isn't HDCP-compliant, so no unfortunately. The ME29 firmware seems to have helped more folks than it hurt, though- as now I can use the ASCD even with a custom kernel (as long as I roll back the Bootloader), as I guess they're doing more DRM checks at the HDMI port instead of inside the ASC SW in the GNote.
ok, thanks. I am glad the eBay seller takes returns . Picked up a roku 2 Hd for $35 on eBay. Sounds like it will work better for my needs.
