Hey guys.
Hope this is the right section to post this.
I am looking for a new phone and it should be running andriod.
One of my options include Samsung Vibrant, but want to explore other phones aswell.
Can someone tell me what is currently the best android phone that is good overall? For music, videos, phone, battery, etc?
It should be able to run 2.2 android, and all the latest upgrades such as 2.3 etc.
Please let me know.
Thanks.
What carrier are you under or are you willing to switch?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Well carrier does not really matter as I will be buying a unlocked version anyway.
Right now I am just concerned more about the phone, then the carrier.
Nexus s. Fastest and will recieve the most updates while being mega feature packed

Nexus S right now is very expensive, what comes as best after nexus s?
My benchmark speeds on my droid x according to quadrant are just above the nexus one (1391)

Are there any others, droid seems very big
In my honest opinion MyTouch 4G is the best android phone out right now. The Nexus S is basically a repackaged Galaxy S. The MT4G spanks most phones out there in most benchmarks-look it up.
I keep mine overclocked to 1.8Ghz (ondemand) all day, get amazing battery life, and pull between 2500 and 3000 in quadrant on first run.

Yeah, take a look at some benchmarks, not even close to being the fastest. The Nexus S lost to the MT4G in a bunch of categories, as well as a bunch of other devices. Just because a device is newer and everyone is talking about it does not mean it is better or faster. Hell, the MT4G beat it in a dogfight by Phonedog (of course that is mostly based on opinion though).
Why don't you provide details as to you limits (price, size and carrier) and then we'll be better able to help you make a decision.

Couldn't tell you what's 'best,' but if you are willing to go with AT&T, you can get a swinging deal on the Captivate now through Target Mobile (http://www.targetmobilestore.com/mobile/?referringdomain=bullseyemobilesolutions). I upgraded my wife's ancient RAZR to the Samsung device for $69 and only had to add a $15 data plan to her current setup and a 2-year reup. That's a helluva phone for the money.
nexus S should be the best phone! Most DevĀ“s should be there!
Motorola Droid 2 Global is the best. CPU with highest clock in all android phones there are. yet.
w8 for lg optimus 2x first phone with dual core and ships with 2.2 opr 2.3 i think
G2 baby! Woopwoopwoop
okay
Benchmarks do not mean ****. ask ANY dev. theyre all hacked or ****ed up. I personally think for cdma, the epic. for gsm, the nexus s.
I'm debating on gettin rid of my jailbroken iPhone 4 for a inspire.
Should I hold off on the inspire for something better coming out?
I enjoy my iPhone Alot and my battery life lol but I can't make my mind up.
User there is some dev support already for the inspire which is a huge plus for me, but I'm getting tired of the small size of the iPhone and it's limits to customizing.
What do you guys think?
Also I came from a rooted Aria and Captivate before I went to the iPhone

Hi, make sure get a dual core cpu on next acquisition. Apple or no apple to be fair. Android is fun.

this is definitely a great phone. you may want to hold off until a better htc phone comes out with either of the two: dual-core 1ghz or better, front facing camera. If the inspire had both of those, this would be the most beastly phone on the market. if you're okay without both of those, then the inspire is for you. sense is awesome - lots of custom roms with and without - all are quick too! i got used to the size of the phone quickly after getting it and i LOVE LOVE LOVE this phone now. hope you make the right choice for yourself
Coming from the POC Captivate, this phone is awesome!
I do wish it had a front camera though, but not sure when I'd use it...it's plenty speedy though in stock form, much faster than the Captivate.
Dual core would be nice, but I had the Atrix and it didn't seem faster. I think it's all about coding and what you want it to do.
A co-worker of mine is an iPhone to Android user now.. he is happy overall, but does complain about the battery..
I am stock and easily get 2 days of normal usage. Not sure how long the iPhone lasts compared to the Inspire, but I think you'll be happy with this phone. I too came from the Captivate, and am much happier with HTC. Gps is flawless, screen size is perfect for my man hands, build quality is great (except for the darn battery cover )
I say go into a corp ATT store and play with the Inspire for 15 min.. awesome phone IMO.

Thanks for all the replies, keep them coming!
I feel like I'm running out of time with my iPhone, searching CL for a trade while it still has some value.

I rarely use the front camera, I miss not having the panoramic option, I build skyscrapers for a living and I like taking cool pics.

Stupid question I know but if I were to trade my iPhone for the inspire would I have to go to Att and ask for a 4g sim card?
And also would the data plan remain the same or is it different for "4g" devices?

If I'm not mistaking the sim card for a iPhone is a micro one so you will need to go get a new one and the plans I THINK are the same but you will just have to move to the smartphone plan not the iPhone plan

HTC has no plans for a upcoming phone for at&t. My inspire runs super fast and games and video streaming is beautiful. So a dual core is mainly for speed. Y need more speed if the HTC is super fast? And I would never use the front facing camera. I mean really. I got a Mac for that.

I'd say hold off and see the infuse4g. I'm leery about samsung after the craptivate fiasco but the infuse is getting great reviews from engadget (while they aren't perfect I do find them to be pretty good overall) and I dont know about you but the extra .2" of screen might actually make a big difference, I know the .3" of screen between captivate and inspire were super nice. I will tell you while the captivate had more metal parts the HTC feels better built (except that damn battery cover everyone keeps mentioning, really HTC, what were you thinking?!)
There's no wrong answer when you switch from iphone to android, it's like going from a mud pie to filet mignon, even if it's bad filet mignon it's better than what you had!
And may wanna see what to see if bootloader is locked
CaNt FiX sTuPiD
Kinda wanting to stay away from the infuse as well as samsung and the bs they put us through with the captivate, I'm headin to a store now to go play with the inspire
Sent from my iPhone using RedSn0w.
Yes noob Samsung sucks. I rather take a 1ghz with HTC than the Samsung 1.2.
CaNt FiX sTuPiD
He told me I can use my old 3G sim are that I used with my old captivate, wait, what?
Sent from my iPhone using RedSn0w.
Well if you are ATT only I would either stay with the iphone 4 or get the inspire.
This dual core thing is not proven yet. I have not seen one phone that is dual core that is awesome. I am sure I and everyone else will want one in 6 months to a year but right now there is nothing impresive about them. Att only has one other dual core that I have read about coming and its an LG....No Thanks...
Just got done Playing with one at the store, the size would take getting used to.
Seemed sluggish here and there but it's a store phone..and the fact it didn't have any Internet connectivity sucked.
And the captivate next to it was running 2.2 what a pos haha.
Overall it seems really nice, well constructed, pretty smooth as far as animation went.
Now here's the hard part, I can easily find an Inspire on CL to trade my i4 for, but how much cash do I want?
Sent from my iPhone using RedSn0w.
I could also just use my brothers upgrade an give him my i4

The demo phone didn't have a SIM with a data connection? Ridiculous. They should've at least had it connected to wi-fi.
BTW, Best Buy has the Inspire for cheaper than AT&T. It is $79 there (w/ 2 year contract of course).

It was connected to wifi but kept telling me no connection.
I went to bestbuy afterwards and did notice the price difference but I didn't even waste my time asking anyone of them for help, whereas they complete idiots.
And every phone they had on display was a dummy, what's the deal with that?

Ok,, question for those who have multi phones and might know the phones I am talking about.
I have my XT720 - which I use with Wind Mobile.. and I would think I will continue to use in the near future.
I have an Iphone 3gs 32gb - that is locked to Rogers and not usable on wind.
I have an offer to trade the iphone for a HTC nexus one.
1. Is the nexus one that much of a better phone than the xt720
2. Is that a good value trade the iphone for the one?
I have my XT720 running pretty good on froyo cyanogen 6.3 rc3 and can run it at 1200 @82vsel - its stable.. but this phone lacks ram.. and the one has 512mb.. so I am trying to figure out if this is worth doing?
Opinions?
You need to first make sure that the Nexus One has AWS bands for WIND. If you dont plan on going back to Rogers, Id say thats a fair trade. You have to remember the Nexus One is a developer device so ROM development is always happening. Take a gander at the Nexus One Forums on XDA and see if you like it. Me, Id probably do the trade.
Also make sure you check the power button. N1 have a design flaw that with repeated use the power button either stops working or falls off entirely.
There are two types. One for ATT and one for TMobile frequencies. We use TMo.
And finally, yes the N1 is a developer phone but it was the first, so the means that it is now the last to get updates. Not sure about ICS but took them forever, well over a year, to get GB.
Forums aren't as nice as here too. I lurked for a bit when I was going to get one. I decided against but that was for my owns reasons.
Well, the iphone does make a great ipod touch for music and games. I have it jb'd and 32gb is good.
Maybe I will hold off - make sure I am staying on Wind and go with an LG Op. x2 - on a wind tab. Sell my other phones for a few bucks and pay it down as much as possible. Then I am into a dev. Phone dual core.
Hmmmmmm

SGS2. Clear choice.
Check out www.gsmarena.com and use their compare option.
I say Galaxy Nexus if on VZW if not import (if you can) for T-Mobile or ATT. Since this has awesome dev support, Nexii always do. Or just wait for quad core phones CES is next week. If you can't wait I say gs2 on any carrier but VZW

From that list i pick SII.
As posted before check gsm.arena for the specs

Galaxy S II is the clear winner from that list, Build quality wise only the HTC beats it.. otherwise for dev support, playing games & good battery life Galaxy S II wins
Samsung galaxy s2
Fastest
Vivid Screen
Light, Thin
Most Devs
Motorola photon 4g
I don't really see any major pros compared to the other devices
Htc sensation
Sense
The back of it looks pretty good, made of aluminium.
Lg optimus 3d
3D
If you value 3rd party dev support, then I would probably pick samsung or htc, as they have rather big dev community
cheers
so its mean the SGSII is good form all aspects .... guys i want a phone which has good quality . a phone if which will drop form hand and phone can handle the drop i think you guys understand what i want o say

they always break their promises, just like Motolora
i actually find Samsung to be the only one that actually listen to what customer wants, and they have been doing great at it these last 2 years
i would go with the GSII

not sure if you have seen the drop test of Galaxy phones vs Iphones
but just today i had my first hand real life experience
took the phone out of my front shirt pocket, shoulder height and my fingers slipped, it went face down straight to a concrete floor (it bounced like 4 times before coming to a full stop) and it's still alive and kicking, except for a few scratches on the bezel everything is fine.
as you can see from y siggy, it's a SGS2 from Tmo
ok guys i m going to buy SGSII
thanks for yours comments
Just get a samsung epic you can get them brand new for like $200 or so, with a memory card, the II isn't worth the extra money.
I was giving a glimmer of hope for HTC after reading this. Does any1 who works for HTC or att have anymore insight . If you like HTC product please read and post your thoughts.

Assuming the hardware is the same, this is great news for the carrier branded model users on xda (also assuming HTC is somewhat gpl complient, which has yet to be seen by me)
But Google i/o is right around the corner... Let's see what the next nexus has to offer. If the nexus is lte, there in no contest if I were to buy off contract- given the price and direct from Google

Let the tech wars begin. My personal prediction is all carriers will be contractless and data will be unlimited with certain "play store apps" Samsung gotta be nervous staring down those rockets .

Well, I can say AT&T will NEVER go back to unlimited data. With over 100 million users and nearly half are smartphones users, it doesn't have the bandwidth to carry it. However, statistics suggest that the average users does not use more than 3GB of data. As far as anything else, I believe in HTC. Samsung is a good phone maker, but I really want to go with HTC. Call me crazy, but HTC One > Galaxy S4.

I really like HTC and the one looks so awesome. Its my understanding that in the not so near future we will have voice over LTE. Lol they even are calling it hd phone service. With technology and competition there is a lot more that lte can give us and bandwith issues with advanced LTE
Will alllow a lot more and use a lot less. I'm expecting Google to subsidize data by offering apps with unlimited data as incentive. Its also my understanding that we will see the complete wireless data over lte as home service . Wimax was a failure but the voice over lte with home wireless will push unlimited data for fee. Obviously wired connections will still be needed but as Google perfects its gigabit speed internet we should see massive technology leaps like never before . We have the whole nfc world also which hasnt even scatched the surface of use And with ipv6 I'd say 10 years from now we will usher new tecnology era .
