Hello all,
Ever since I flashed emancipation ROM on my infuse, pressing the search capacitive button no longer opens up the Google search box.
Otherwise the button works fine. long pressing the search button opens the “speak now"dialog and everything but not the Google search function for some reason.
Can someone guide me on how to bring back this functionality.
Thanks

This is because you probably do not have the Google Search app. If you want to get the functionality back, all you have to do is go on the Play Store and download Google Search.
Hope this works.

that's what I thought at first too. It is not included in the ROM but even after downloading the Google search app the issue persists. I will try flashing a different ROM.
Thanks for reply

Kind of embarrassing, but I've had this phone for over a year now and for some reason have never noticed or used the capacitive search button. Thanks for bringing this up, as I'm using it daily now. Handy!

Yep, I have the long press set to use Vlingo by default now, and that has come in very handy when driving with a Bluetooth headset.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
so i installed a different rom hoping this issue would be fixed (Mind of Mac) and still same thing. I really like that fact that before i could simply "tap" the capacitive search button ONCE and search apps/contacts/internet/google serach...now i gotta use the google search widget which is extra work.
any one have anyideas?
thanks

Hopefully this is something I've overlooked. I've searched but couldn't find much. I have the wired headphones and when I use the long press it opens up the default music player. I planned to use this in the car and would rather it open voice search. Is this possible to change? Is it a different press...3 shorts or something? Using stock rom.

I did Google but couldn't definitively find if I could do it on stock rom or not. I thought maybe there were some buried settings or someone would pipe up and say to upgrade to gb. I guess not. It looks like maybe you can with BT headset. Thanks for the link.

I'm on GB right now and searched all through settings,no good. I'm sure you could with a BT with multiple buttons..
Thanks for checking. Your link doesn't work. At least not on the phone. I searched for kober in the market and found it though. Made it launch voice search so that worked. I haven't explored much further.

Well it was a link to the android market website, so that's why. From what I read the button settings are changeable to your liking...
Yea. The search is working. Now just have to figure out how to reactivate voice/mic if I pause while speaking during a text.
I think your link is busted due to double http:

When I use the search button on my phone lately(past week or so) it's asking me to full out one of those capta things where you just type a word in a box. It's getting very annoying. From the same page it says this:
" Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network. This page checks to see if it's really you sending the requests, and not a robot."
Anyone else getting this? I dont use this feature enough to cause this, maybe I'm being hacked?

Same here. Google shows that it thinks I am a bot. Says that they have detected bot-like activity from my IP addrss. Happens anytime I'm not on WIFI.
Same with me, nobody knows what's up???
What browser is everyone using, and what is the user agent set to?
For me it happens only if the stock browser searches, for example if I hit search button, our search via address bar in stock browser. Doesn't happen when I go to google.com and search from the page.
Btw, I'm on fusionV rom, what about you guys? It wasnt doing it till recently, and I've been on the rom for some time, I don't think it's rom related.

Terry
On KI2 and have been getting it for a few days now, but only when using the quick search options. If I open the browser and hit google.com, it works fine. Really a PITA when I'm trying to use the voice search...
I am on Fasty 2.5 (2.2 kb1) and this started for me a couple days ago too. Only when not on WiFi and I use the search widget. I am glad I am not the only one.
Geeve
I had that happen this past weekend on stock AT&T 2.2, so I doubt it matters what ROM you're on.
I was wondering why my version of Google search doesn't include Google now (with the cards). I have a nightly of cm10 installed with the 10-11 gapps.
My friend has a full version with cm10 on an HTC phone. Is it just the current development of cm10 on the s3 doesn't support the cards?
Thanks
It has google now. You must have messed up. Check the settings in the google search menu. You might not have opted in yet
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I've actually noticed this as well. I can make a card come up if I search for like local weather but there's no place to set locations or favorites and cards never randomly come up for me
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
You have a nightly with gapps that are a month old? That could be your issue. If you're running a month old rom, then you most definitely will be missing features. I'd advise you to update your rom, and also you can update google search from the play store as well.
Google now updates through the play store. That isn't the problem

No, I think you misunderstood me. I am running the 11/7 nightly of CM10 with the 10/11 version of gapps. As far as i can tell the 10/11 gapps are the most current on goo.im unless I'm missing something.
Also apparently it asks you to opt in to the Google Now service when you first launch it, but I never remember getting that
If you tap on the microphone on the search widget you will be directed to the search app. In there hit the menu button to go to settings. Now turn on Google Now.
I get voice, search, and privacy settings. No obvious settings in any of them that would fix the issue

I'm running VBRLJ1 leaked ROM and it appears I only have Google Search. I see nothing about Google Now anywhere. I've gone through all location settings, web history, etc.. it's all open for google to track me.
I also only get cards when I search for things. No option to "see more cards" or "see sample cards".
Basically I don't have Google Now and this surprises me. Anyone know of a fix for the leaked VBRLJ1 folks? I'm unrooted at the moment.
Thanks.

Seems ok in my limited testing. I always found the prediction engine in SwiftKey to work the best, having swipe just makes it better. I was going to try the tablet version on my Nexus 7 but I guess the download site is swamped as it couldn't connect. Most likely because guys like you are posting it all over XDA...
been using it all morning so far so good

My first install was awful, it installed, but the prediction boxes on top weren't working. I uninstalled it and reinstalled and it's been working fine ever since.
Although, I think it predicts words better if you actually type the words. You can't select the word you wanted to type if it guesses the wrong word

I don't like the fact that if it got the wrong word when you swipe, you have to backspace over all of the letters. I think the stock 4.2 keyboard will delete the whole word if you backspace once. It might be an option though, I haven't looked that closely yet. Other than that, no real issues. Haven't decided if I'm going to stick with it or not, even though I bought it.

I've only used Swype as far as having something to compare it to...and it seems faster to me. I also like the prediction better than swype.
I don't type often(I mostly swipe), but when I have used it for typing it seems pretty fast....a little lag now and then.. I also do NOT miss the glitches in Swype, such as not spacing automatically in the browser and other apps...this has been good for that.
Keep in mind it's a beta, and as fast as the previous version is, I'm sure this can only get better...they've already got a great start..
So its been a week. Flow works pretty smooth for me but I did notice that the prediction needs a little work. But all in all I see a solid keyboard app worth using.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Has anyone else experienced the inability to search from within a website using flow? For example, using Chrome or Google search if I navigate to xda, rotten tomatoes, imdb or android central(those are the sites that I've tested on) I can't search from within that specific site. After I switched back to SwiftKey 3 I was able to search successfully. I haven't checked the forums over at SwiftKey yet so that will be my next step. Thanks

Google Reader sharing to Facebook doesn't allow the use of flow swiping. Hope they fix that as I'm sure there are other instances it won't work.

I have the LG G2 Verizon variant and knock knock works. No bugs here. Can you elaborate? Everything with the exception of selecting "Wallpapers" when you long press on the home screen works.
