So jellybean has been unveiled at Google's I/o project as a minor update (4.1) given its minor status anyone think/know if we will be able to run it, there doesn't seem to be much information on the actual devices that can expect it, they did say its being given to all carriers immediately so any delays in it being pushed to the handset is your carriers fault this time , thoughts?

hows the siri rival i heard was included?
From HTC, i don't think so.. even if it would take 24 hours work to put it on our device, they won't do it
But from nk & nexx, i'm pretty sure we'll get it no questions asked, once we get our kernel sources, that is
I think the 3.0 kernel would work allright since i don't really think there are many driver-related changes, so that would work, but i'm not sure as the "project butter" thingy has some stuff goin' under the hood, so i'm not sure ;~;
HTC so far have announced they are "planning to support it across a variety of our devices". We'll have to wait for the inevitable announcements.

No way.
There'll be no Official Jelly Bean for Desire S.
As for ICS, HTC already made it clear they are doing customer a big favor in deploying the update.
And that we, the customer, are supposed to be thankful for them and not whining/complaining when the ICS update is pushed off to as late as possible.
Unless DS is lucky like DHD which luckily made it through from 2.2 to 4.0
Hmmm I can't help but envy apple's 3 product line that all get the same updates, nothing worse than knowing a perfectly capable phone won't get a minor update just to try and force u into buying a newer expensive model

Are you serious? Apple is as bad, if not worse, at fragmenting their products - and they've got no excuse for it. This is the same company that is rolling out the new Maps software, but only for the iPhone 4S, not for the iPhone 4 - there is only one reason for that, and that's to force people to upgrade.

Agree, the only difference is Apple is pretending to ship the same software to all devices, because they all got the same version number, what's even worse for my opinion than just clearly saying, you won't get it.
Additionally it's also to trick statistics, because that way it looks like there is no fragmentation, what is indeed good marketing, but pretty bad in human terms.
About jelly bean for the ds, it sure will come, but I don't think official, "only" one s/v ports (or other devices) and for sure cm and aokp.

Jelly bean differnces
Caught this from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737899 good info about JB (i keep thinking that JB is Jinger bread XD)
blockbusta said:
Hi everybody,
i'm on stock Jelly Bean with official Jelly Bean bootloader + radio and want to tell you about my experience with it (got stock ROM from the link in Rom Manager and flashed the radio and boot loader files from some topic in this forum. Locked the bootloader afterwards).
Okay let's start:
At first haven't noticed any bugs with this ROM. Also the system is way smoother compared to 4.0.4 ICS and many things that have annoyed me in 4.0.4 have been fixed.
Biggest differences between ICS and JB:
(I will add pictures later)
- Data Usage Graph is now linear, like in CM9:
- Some benchmarks are better:
- Some benchmarks are worse:
- Wi-Fi Direct has now an option menu:
- WPS-Pin is now supported:
- the account-settings are now a seperated category in the settings:
- Now there's an arrow downwards instead of the back button when the keyboard is opened:
- There is an other lockscreen animation and you can access google now from lockscreen:
- new animations:
- access google now instantly by swiping up from the home button:
- Process of adding a new word to the dictionary have been optimized:
- Developer options have been rearranged and new ones have been added:
- New Wallpapers:
- New Search-Bar:
- New Radio and Bootloader:
- New Boot-Animation:
- Homescreen objects rearrange when you add an widget automatically:
- New Google Music App:
- New Youtube App:
- New Google Maps app:
- New Voice Search app:
- Contacts with a higher resolution:
- Expandable Notifications:
- Completely redesigned nofication bar:
- New animations in gallery app
- Optimized Camera app:
- New programm-chosing-menu:
- If you want a tutorial or more information about jelly bean just write your questions here. I will update this post afterwards.
Questions:
Is google now english only? :
- No. I just asked a few questions in german. It gave me search results but I it just list sites with the answers. No knowledge graph in german. But it shows me my weather and my route to work with tiles
What happens if you enable/disable WiFi Direct for 5-10 times in a row? In ICS, after a couple of times toggling WiFi Direct the wifi driver crashed and I needed a reboot in order to make WiFi and WiFi Direct work again:
- Sorry I don't have another Wifi-Direct device to test this feature at this time.

new maps isnt really a big priority for everyone i meant more in the sense that they continued to give support to the iphone 4 in terms of new ios where as we get ics without sense 4 etc.. our product life cycle is jsut naturally shorter as there is more competition, sometimes I and alot of people probably forget while we may want a cheap cost-effective deal, for them it's a business.

I have tried many ICS roms for the Desire S, and i can tell you not a single one is laggy, unless of course you are talking about Sense 4 ROMs.. but those ROMs are also very smooth, and I can really say that they are laggy..
my only complain is the incorrect inversion of FFC in AOKP/CM9.. but that is HTC's fault.. not the developers.. If you need ICS ROMs for daily driver, I can strongly recommend you IceColdSandwich 8.2 or if you need Sense 4 on top of it, take Fallout 4.4.0.. But if you think thatthose are still laggy, then probably you should get yourself a One X or SGS3.. or maybe iPhone 4S..

Listen up pal, lemme help ya a bit.... (To be honest, re-reading your post, and again reading, I can't make heads or tails of what your asking. Will ICS be an available base for Inspire Devs to work with? Is that closer to what your suggesting, or asking?)
When the Inspire was released it was running Froyo, and when GB leaked the Devs with thier almighty wizardry developed a Rom(s) based on GB that could be flashed on rooted phones. Then HTC provided OTA updates for folks not rooted, which in turn gave most (all) Inspire users a Gingerbread based Sense Rom. Now that may not be all perfectly explained, but maybe it will help you to reassess how your question or statement is asked.....
Check this out. Opened a new Tab - Googled Ice Cream Shop Android and there it was.
Google wants ICS rolling out soon to compete with Apple - and it will be an available upgrade for existing smartphone users capable of running 2.3 (or 2.2 don't remember) They want all capable Android devices to be able to integrate with this new OS. SO my bet is this, once it drops those wacky wizards will be all over it - and a rooted user will see it before HTC pushes it out OTA
Edit: Your not grasping this the right way mate, so let me sum it up better. It's not a question (referring to thread title) of is ICS for HTC. ICS is an Android OS, which means its for Android powered devices. HTC, Samsung, Motorola, etc will use ICS for thier newest ANDROID powered devices, following that will probably be the dev versions, then official OTAs will follow - HOPEfully. Damn. That was tough........ ....... ...... .......
Sorry for the confusing question.
In other words, you're saying that all android phones (Running Sense or other OS) will be updated ICS?

Sense isn't an OS. Its a UI. Sense is built on top of android OS 's like 2.2.1, 2.3.3. The HTC inspire will not be getting ICS. But as an EXAMPLE if it did, the OS would be ICS and sense would be built on top of it as a UI.

Lol, no apology necessary bud, but please don't be offended when I say you really should read a little something or other (Google "What is HTC Sense UI") to better inform yourself about your Phone. One last try bud - here we go. Ready?
Android powers your phone. Sense is a UI (user interface) which allows you to navigate through your phones OS or Operating System. Think of it like this bud - if Google is your car - Sense is the steering wheel. So if you go and buy another Inspire, The O.S. will be Gingerbread, How you will tell the OS what to do next, will be Sense. If that doesn't answer anything - then its someone else's turn...

I was just asking your opinion on this and my battery died. They said ICS would support devices less than a year old. So we know the Devs will get thier hands on it, but it might be in HTCs interest to upgrade as Google is wanting a multi-device compatibility and interaction like iPhone, IPad, etc.... What I hope doesn't happen is HTC holding out an Update solely to encourage upgrading.
Edit: Sounds Promising, Looks and Sounds Stellar, we shall wait and see indeed. SBasham - I re-read my post and wanted to apologize for sounding snarky. Totally didn't mean to be a downer bud!

that's the ICS port's name that cannot be spoken about here
it's like Sauron's ROM or something
I wont post a link to the page, but looking at Kmobs Google+, he posted a few pictures comparing his Sensation and Galaxy Nexus.
-In one picture he shows the 'about phone' screen on both phones. On Sensation, it looks like there is a color gradient, however its hard to tell. So MAYBE they have hardware acceleration working.
-Also if you read the 'mod version' it says CyanogenMod-9.0.0-RC0-Sensation-KANG. I'm a noob and Im not sure if the mod version will tell anything, but it says RC0 so maybe its Release Candidate status?
-One last thing I noticed is he has the same widget running when he compares homescreen, so he is kind or mirroring the two, but the Galaxy Nexus has the camera shortcut on the homescreen and Sensation does not. Not sure if that means its not working on Sensation, or if he just didnt put it there
Mods: if I posted anything I shouldnt have, please feel free to delete the post and contact me. Im familiar to the rules for the most part.

lol. should compare date released and prices for devices. the longer the date the device was released and the cheaper price it is, it should have many devs and support for it. as our devices is quite new (not that new lol) but its like a decisive thing for devs really, if they want to get the sensation and create ports there or just go to the newest device there is on the market. but needless to say, we have plenty of devs here. its just a matter of enjoying whats there and being patient. so, stay on and relax

We have a good collection of roms though, and we will be getting ICS regardless from HTC. I don't mind if devs jump ship.
Yeah, TripNiCE ROM is now Alpha 7.5, quite perfect and very stable.
It seems that we could have a stable release (or two if CM9/Kang release something too) till Christmas !
Just so everyone knows, Trip is working on two roms, one is AOSP which many won't use due to a non-functioning camera. He's also working on a No-Sense rom with his improvements, I've been following his twitter since last night, and he's pretty close to release.
It'll be posted elsewhere of course, send me a PM if you don't know the forum, but if you're itching to try out another fully functioning ICS rom that's supposedly faster and smoother than the rest, it's coming soon.
Just google "Twitter tripnraver" if you want status updates, I'm not allowed to post links yet.
Edit: It's out (thanks BiziBB), if you're not too lame to check out a Trip rom, use your sweet googling skills to find it.

I didn't read anything about Trip in the rules. Not mentioning a single guy doesn't make a lot of sense. And I don't want to be involved in any internet drama, but your "Sent from" throws his name into every post you make, seems a bit hypocritical to have that.

Hey Mr.Ignorant
http://infolab.stanford.edu/~burback/watersluice/node45.html
Guess what, his only ICS rom is in beta, which is clearly in his thread so if you don't realize beta has bugs which are listed your an idiot. If you do then your ignorant. It was in beta i think for a week so if your complaining about his alpha go donate him money so he can work harder and if you don't know alpha has ALOT of bugs usually then Google what it means. That's why there is a BETA after alpha and that's not even the final product/step. I have not downloaded it because I personally need some stuff that doesn't work, guess what I do until then? Use something else instead of complaining. Most of these threads have useless comments like YOURS and its hard to search for the info your looking for. So instead of complaining use someone else's rom and thank them or wait for CM9.
Pertaining to the topic yeah he is almost close to releasing, I think he is flashing it and testing it according to his twitter. So we should be close. Hopefully CM9 comes soon so we can compare all these new roms. yayaa =)

His current AOSP beta release is actually hardware accelerated, but some applications aren't running right just yet. If I remember correctly, it's Gmail and Facebook, among others.

Well he made it nice and small, 118MB.
never tought that a "sense" rom could feel like this, build in 6 hours and everything works

That's him on Twitter last night. If you choose to take his word for it, he might have the fastest, smoothest one available.

He had a senseless build coming alongside his AOSP ROM.
The AOSP ROM is great! Buttery smooth but, of course, the gmail and Facebook apps are borked, as is the camera. Impressive work, nonetheless.

THTCP001.4.0.1-TripNRaVeR.zip was announced on Twitter, elsewhere and uploaded, for anyone that interested. Another senseless product of the leaked HTC ICS Sense ROM, if you have a flashing compulsion.
Anyone got a link?

We can't link to other forums. Feel free to google it though, shouldn't be hard to find.
Actually Trip has had HW partially functioning for some time, I was following his work and he managed to activate 2D accel by repairing the Hardware composers; at this time he didn't fix all renders, but he activated the ICS gradient(means that 2D/3D accel is on, and you can see it in menus w/ blacks and such). Now I don't know about others devs, but I can't say that others have had the GPU working before the Sense Leak was even out. He came very far on his port, and I was happy that he publicly released each alpha regardless of stability.

Based on feedback from the thread, it seems like his new senseless release has some features working that the AOSP doesn't, but the AOSP is still much faster. One person in the thread said that once the kinks of the AOSP build are worked out, it will basically make this senseless release obsolete.
That seems to be the difference between Trip's AOSP build and everything we have on here-ROMs that are merely stripped of sense can't match his for speed.

Its the lite version of ice cream sandwich.
and about whether 9003 will get it or not, only time will tell.
On www.gsmarena.com just 1 day ago samsung has officially decleared that no value pack update will be given to galaxy s. So forget about ICS
It's sad we aren't getting ICS, but the phone runs much nicer than it did under Froyo, so it's not like they're leaving us with a half-baked product.
It's not ICS, it's a GB update but with some adds.

I tried ics on my friends nexus s,trust me you wont like it,miui on froyo probably was better, and Samsung if they release ics on the i9003,it will be rubbish as we will still be stuck with touchwiz.so there is no point getting upset about not getting ics.

ya...! People u dont fascinate about ICS. Its like expecting ur gf to be act or look like sexy angelina jolie
I must admit that ICS is really superb but problem is samsung nexus has that kind of powerful hardware 1.2 ghz with dual core processor, 1gb ram. We even dont have half of it. Already our 2.3.6 firmwares run with little lag then from this u can imagine how device will perform with ICS (Super duper laggy).
Instead of this we must concentrate on cm7 & miui. Really these two roms are superbly awsome. It will really fulfill all our requirements.

I agree....but firstly its not about the MHZ,GHZ,THZor what,, even port for 600+mhz can run ICS(I think we can run SE x1 on ICS..doing it)... The Question is WHY I NEED ICS???whats the diff? whats new? cant it save me on bills? can it make my phone undistructable? can i play PS3 games on it???? a dozen of question marrks more to add...
Ics will give us loads Of new features . We could first concentrate on miui then ics through miui like in other phones. we need ics
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA App
Its not the question of power, when the T-Mobile g1(first android phone) and HTC HD2(a Wm phone from 09) can have smooth ics anything is possible with proper devs. I think the best way to approach ics is best to get it via miui or cyanogen mod
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA App
Yes that is what I am saying. Miui is going to be stable soon and then we should request some devs to port pics through miui

Once apps started requiring 4.0 compatibility, we will NEED ICS. In the upgrade to Honeycomb we didn't feel it that much since it is specifically for tablets. If apps begin to require Fragments (not present in 2.3 and below) and other 3.x and 4.x stuff we will be stuck. Its not just all visual eyecandy folks.

And when will that start happening? Apps are still supporting Froyo. By the time this is a necessity for most apps, you'll have a new phone.

Well for most of us, I think its not as easy as it sounds to have a new phone ICS runs on my ZTE blade pretty smoothly without most animations, maybe its just a matter of time before we get ICS.

It'll be years away, and chances are you'll start having problems with the hardware, dropped it, ran out of warranty, new contract etc before lack of ICS becomes a major issue.
Why am i making excuses for Samsung? Beats me.
What we NEED is a completely bug free 2.3.7 GB and Samsung source lib files..
If we manage to get 'em , we'll ROCK...

you took words from my mouth Still we have some issues like sync issue, lag issue, vdo calling etc. I will not blame people that they are getting attracted to ICS becoz definitely ICS is very attractive. But even if we dont get ICS it will not make much difference. Instead of that I will prefer small ICS value pack update as per capability of mobile. Phone's actual performance can be identified only then & then when u install lots apps & do some multitasking with 3 to 4 apps open. Because whenever u install fresh rom then it has no background loading apps. So thats why it runs smoothly.
Regarding compatibility of app, if u observe carefully then 90% major apps are compatable to 2.1+ onwards versions of android and in future also same thing will continue by app developers.
Opened up a CyanogenMod 9 discussion thread To talk about it.
What would you like to see? What features do you like (from alpha versions or the Nexus S version)? And the big question on everyone's mind: When do you think it will be released?
Discuss.

He's not, he's asking to speculate. Or is that not allowed either?
I personally can't wait for CM9. I'm running Virtuous Quattro on my Desire HD at the moment, but was on CM7.1 for a long time before that. Hoping it will see the light of day before the end of Feb, but I have no idea how optimistic that might be!
An integrated contacts app that allows you to go to contacts and start typing a name and it will automatically search without hitting the search button would be nice.
I have 450+ contacts and it's a pain in the a$$ to scroll through and almost always have to manually search.
IDK if this already a feature but also like to see the camera unlock be integrated to use either front or back cameras for facial recognition.
CM9 seems pretty legit for me... we have a port for the captivate and it runs amazing ....having ICS on older devices is pretty awesome ....whatever CM brings to the table is always good stable and fast
I'm running a pure AOSP port of the galaxy nexus at the moment and I have no issues what's so ever...
Just hope your device has the right devs and anything is possible

I never asked for a release date from the team or members here. This is pure speculation. Nothing more nothing less

To win a lottery, and pay-off Qualcomm to get support for QSD8x50/MSM??? Adreno 200.
Moore's Law is now biting us in the rear.
The blog post on the CM site pretty reinforced what I thought was happening and why development has been a bit slow. 4.0 was designed to be very different from 2.x, but I am sure that the team will knock out some stable releases soon enough.
CM9 i9000 Galaxy already looks very good.
I would prefer it to be more black ..... but overall very nice
