Hello, I bought the HTC S ONE, but I have a big concern as I receive the phone in his hand he picks up more.
I wonder if that can come from my radio card or if HTC really misplaced its antenna
I had a HTC desire is before I have not kind of problem.
your first sentence doesn't make sense to me
are you saying if you hold phone, reception decreases?
you should clarify yourself again.
to my experience, One-S's signal reception is very strong, both on cell radio and wifi. it never cut-off in the lift which my previous Motorola Atrix used disconnected always. Wifi is also very strong.
excuse my bad English, when I took the phone loses the network.

Phone looks great, but i figure with the antenna's on the back of hte phone like that there's bound to be some "death grip" issues.
I see one thread on this forum about this issue, but since the community has grown since then i figured i'll ask again.
Compared to my previous phone (Galaxy S), the reception is better in all regards except for wifi. Although wifi is comparable, covering the antenna with your hand causes an instant and noticeable degradation in signal strength. If you're not close to your router, this signal loss is enough to drop the connection.

Damn, that's a little messed up..
I dont use wifi that much, but still....
any other opinions?
My girlfriend had just got her sensation yesterday and usually I'm the one to get all the new gadgets I've had the mytouch 4g, g2 4g the evo 4g and now shift and we live in a apartment and all the tmobile phone I've ever had sucked but that phone has the best connection I've ever seen or used in my house for some reason she's getting way faster speeds and of course she wouldn't let me flash anything to it like new radios or anything lol oh yea and she's also using the phone without a case

This. This describes the reception perfectly.

All the reception on this phone is amazing for me. Way better than my G2 and Nexus S! Especially data and Wi-Fi reception. I never lose a 3G/4G connection and at work where I don't have signal I really on Wi-Fi calling and it works perfectly for me (My G2 used to always cut off and drop calls).
GSM reception is excellent. Better than HTC of the past. The G2/MT4G have atrocious reception especially on 4G. GSM reception is better than my Galaxy S, 3G/4G seems to trade off with the Galaxy S picking up on a weak HSPA signal more often.
WiFi reception is horrible in landscape. Fine in portrait with no hands over the top half.

I have to concur with my peers. GSM is great here in southern California, but even as I type this...I'm in portrait because landscape will cause my WiFi to drop. This only happens when I'm not next to my router...so pretty much dies all the time. I already went through 3 phones all with the same death grip, which HTC is just looking into the cause. That's what one rep told me from their USA tech support. Hope this helps

Everything has been fine for me. I haven't noticed any death grip issues with WiFi in portrait or landscape.
Cover the top of the phone and I lose WiFi, cover the bottom and I lose 2/3/4g. Thus when I hold the phone sideways I lose almost all signal.

Thus far I have not had any deathgrip issues like most others complain about however compares to the BlackBerry I came from the radios receive much less signal side by side. Don't get me wrong I love the phone and features but signal is poor in my opinion and with my job I am around cell sites all day so I know what I should expect
Mine's just really bad when it comes to receptions -___- I get no wifi at all no matter how close I am to my router, once I cover it when on landscape mode. && how I see these people having reception when I'm on Bart(underground) I use to have full bars with my cliq down at bart, but with my sensation I don't get any service at all down there.

Blackberry uses a different scale to determine the amount of bar, the -dBm reading goes all the way down to -120. Android only goes down to -113 even though the actual signal can be lower than that, to -121dBm. A Galaxy S with Touchwiz can show you the real -dBm reading after -113 on Android (no bars) with it's field test mode.
yeah fortunately i do not rely on my phone for field testing we use test sets working on the antennas and lines. and we work with a remote test center that runs NRPM testing for diversity issues. (we work primarily AT&T UMTS technology work in the midwest)
wifi issue is the worst, drops in and out constantly from wifi to mobile network. dont ever use a case in your house you will lose wifi 90% of the time. dont listen to these fan boys

I was having the same issue for a while, but it seems to have worked itself out.
I've not had a problem with Bluetooth or WiFi, but the 2g and 3g reception is erratic wherever I go. This is on Vodafone UK.
Have tried my sim in my old HD2 and I get a much more stable signal.
just went to Bell to talk about the HTC Sensation. I asked if the lady heard anything about reception issues with the Sensation because of its design.
She said she hasn't heard of anything but she likes the new galaxy s 2 because, and i quote: "the pixels are faster even though they're the same speed"
I said "oh yea? " and left.
the responses in this thread seem to be 50/50. i guess ill need to hold one myself to test
anyone want to have input on this vs the sgs2?
Hi guys. I'll give a brief history of my phone.
Bought it locked and branded to Orange UK.
Debranded it to a stock euro rom
Unlocked it
Used it for 1 day and the signal was quite poor
Rooted it
Installed revalutionHD rom and recommended radio
used it and signal was quite poor and battery life awful
Installed stock sensation XE rom HTC_Europe_1.73.401.4_Radio_10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2
The battery life is ok again but the signal is still poor
So to my question. Is it realisticly possible to sort out the signal or is it just that the sensation has notoriously bad reception and I either live with it or sell it?

Hi,
Is there any chance you can borrow another sim card from a different carrier.
I'm on o2 and although it varies from time to time, and from area to area,it is generally good.
So , I would say that it is not the phone at fault here.
I use o2 too m8. It generally has lower signal in all areas than any other phone I have used (a good few )
So whenever I am in an area which is quite low signal it becomes impossible to make a phone call on this sensation. Looking around the forum and google it appeared I dont seem to be alone.

Hi,
If you are on ARHD with recommended radio ,you must be on 10.15
Some people have had better reception, when they reverted to 10.14
Radios can be found HERE
Some people have also had success by sticking some silver foil on their contacts under the back cover.
I know the top one above the camera is for wifi.
Try the other two.
I appear to also be in a poorish signal area and I use O2 PAYG. My XE and 3 previous Incredible S phones, all dropped signal in certain areas of my house. I've replaced the sim card with the latest and it hasn't helped.
Personally, I think it may be due to the antenna design but I'm no expert. I can have 3 bars showing and then it can drop away to nothing. I'm learning to live with it.

I am on stock xe rom now. Will try them tho as I ideally would like to keep the phone as I really like it. No good with signal as it is tho
Getting weak Wifi-signal on a friends One S, attached are screenshots from Wifi Analyzer comparing reception with ye olde Desire running Sandvolds ICS. The One S consistently is quite a bit worse off by ~20 dBm and sees far fewer networks at any given location. Another old Desire running stock gingerbread also outperforms the One S.
Thoughts anyone who upgraded to the One S? How is your Wifi compared to old phone?
My One S gets 5-10 dBm worse than my Xperia X10 on CM7

Comparing my old Desire (AMOLED, CM7) to my One S the signal strengths are about the same.
But whereas they are stable on the One S they oscillate on the Desire, and the One S is more sensitive, means it shows more different signals in shorter time. The Desire doesn't show them at all or at least less signals, maybe due to the oscillation.
Oh good gosh.
The sensation had the grip of death.
The amaze has a WiFi problem now so does the HTC One S.
The hell HTC? Fix the WiFi issue.
Had my one s for a day now. Been at the same locations around my home as my old desire. It shows far better WiFi reception than the desire both when it was running runnymede and leedroid gb with different kernels.
No WiFi trouble at all.
My sensation was appalling for signal (wifi, 2g/3g) i complained to my provider and thats why i now have the One S.
I must admit, Its not perfect but its a whole lot better. Only had it working a few days so cant be 100% sure, But im getting signals is places i couldnt with the Sensation..
Im happy i can use it as a phone, I would have like it to be alot better but thats life i guess.
It works so i cant complain.
No issues for me... WiFi reception is just as good as the old Desire had. Didn't test it with any apps, but I can get reception everywhere in the house and even outside the front door, which I think the Desire couldn't.
Good thing its not a very common problem so far, maybe HTC spilled some of the micro arc oxidation stuff on the antennas of this One S then It has problems connecting and speeds are bad where multiple other devices work fine. Please keep the anecdotes coming!

No wifi issues here. At least as much signal as my old Desire
i can't complain about my wifi. Even though i get 5-10 dBm worse signal compared to my Xperia X10 i can still connect everywhere inside of the house as well as on the street ~15 meters away from my house. I also get much better speeds with my One S. We have a 30/30 mb/s connection but my Xperia could only use 10-15. The One S on the other hand gets 30/30 every time
The phone in first post is on its way to HTC to be fixed or replaced. Attached screenshots of firmware and radio versions in case someone needs it
My One S wifi signal is around 10 to 12 dBm weaker than my Motorola Defy+ but it still works very well so no issue. Mobile data signal is a good 16dBm and more, weaker (as mentioned elsewhere on this forum) than the Defy+ which is somewhat of a problem. Contacted HTC but awaiting a response.
I have weaker WiFi only when the router is in distance. My incredible s could get one or two bars so does one s, but it can not connect to anything.
When near the router, they all work very well mo problem.
From WiFi analyser the signal strength are similar.

When in my room, i always loose wifi connection when a finger is over the thing you can take off to insert sim. i noticed it because i always loose wifi connection when holding it in landscape
can only compare to iphone 3G which was a little better in keeping connection and had no specific grip of death.
I came here to ask this same question. I don't get a full wifi signal when I'm literally right next to my router. You can forget about it just 20 feet down the hall. really poor. Much worse than on my G2. And I only get edge speeds at my house. Really, I get edge speeds in my den where the tv is but i get 4g in other parts of the house.
This is soooooooo upsetting!!!! Am having wifi issues too. My phone randomly jumps on and off my Wifi while I'm in my room. Mean time my laptop's @ 90% to 100% signal.
I am actually getting much better wifi (using rooted stock) than I did with my HTC glacier running CM7.

Make sure that your SIM access cover is snapped in place.
It happened to me with the WiFi signal - The phone was losing signal, and had low signal 1 foot away from the router.
I 'pinched' the top-right corner of the access cover (thumb on the glass, index finger on the back cover) - I heard a 'click' and suddenly my WiFi was at full strength. I believe that the WiFi antenna is not connected unless it snaps together.
I haven't had any WiFi issues other than low signal at moderate distances from the access point. Once I turned on Best WiFi Performance in the phone's settings though, even that minor issue went away. Couldn't be happier with the WiFi performance, especially after all the WiFi issues the NS4G had.
Check to see that best wifi performance is checked in advanced settings. Not knowing any better, I turned this ON when I first got my phone. A few days later I decided to turn it off to see if it helped battery life. With it off, I got the constant signal drop that someone else mentioned. My son got a One S at the same time I did. He was complaining about occasional reboots. There was a thread on the T-Mobile support site that pointed to a wifi issue. I had him turn best wifi performance ON, and his reboots went away.

I had an HTC Desire and 3 weeks ago I switched to HTC One S from Orange Spain. I use the phone at the same places I used the Desire and the signal is much worst and I often loose reception signal totally for a few long minutes.
Also, even when I have strong signal in 3G or HDSPA, internet is slow or works by bursts (loading a web page it works fast then stops for a while then loads again).
Are there other people suffering this problem?
I have written to HTC on this problem and the chipping but they don't answer me.

HI guys..
I've a sensation 4g (tmous) with arhd 6.7 (but it does the same with stock rom..
As soon as i cover my phone with the case i notice losing a bar of signal, and if i grab the upper part of the phone I completely lost signal!!!
Can anyone of you try and see if is it normal?
Thank you and sorry for my bad english
It's normal as you're covering up the antenna.
On the Sensation the antenna is the whole back cover, and so holding it in a certain manner makes it lose signal. It is one the really annoying things with the poor loudspeaker that makes this phone not live up to the standards we are used to and often annoys me.
i swear my wifi connection is so erratic. sometimes i get awesome connections, sometimes it doesn't connect at all. sometimes my phone has full bars but won't connect.
while i do think it's the sensation to a certain extent... i also think you gotta consider the signal quality and strength of the actual wifi too. technology... sometimes ya love it... a lotta times you are confused and frustrated with it. haha.
Totally normal. Unfortunately.
We share all the same feature "death grip" refer to mobile reviews like gsmarena
