List of Kernels with pre-2.3.3 color drivers - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My Nexus-S colors are bugged (browned colors (pb with red value)).
I'm looking for a list of kernels with pre-2.3.3 color drivers.
voodoo color drivers is an option but it didn't work on all luminosity values (green tint on low luminosity, or bad color at certain luminosity).
for info my voodoo colors imperfect tweak :
# Settings with no green tint, but with bad colors at low luminosity :
echo "-80" > /sys/class/misc/voodoo_color/red_v1_offset
echo "-15" > /sys/class/misc/voodoo_color/green_v1_offset
echo "0" > /sys/class/misc/voodoo_color/blue_v1_offset
# Other setting option (better colors but green tint at low luminosity):
echo "-102" > /sys/class/misc/voodoo_color/red_v1_offset
echo "-54" > /sys/class/misc/voodoo_color/green_v1_offset
echo "-52" > /sys/class/misc/voodoo_color/blue_v1_offset

List of found kernels with pre-2.3.3 colors as of now :
- Lucid Nexus : The CM7.1 version is fine, but the ics one is instable. This kernel doesn't seem to be in active developement.
- Matrix Patched : not tested for now, don't know if he is in active dev (patched version : 15, non-patched version 22).
- to be continued ...
Thanks for your help !

Your colors are that garbled?? I'd take that phone to repair if you have to set the red value this low. This is also why you're getting a green tint on low brightness settings. If your rom supports it you could also change the default lowest brightness settings so you never get to see the green tint, except when you turn the phone on for a few miliseconds.
As far as I'm aware CM9 based roms support it, cannot talk about others.

Yes my colors are that garbled (but zero pbs with pre-2.3.3 divers).
Maybe an hardware pb ? But I'm not the only one having trouble with colors.
I've got this phone for free because of the garbled colors, I can't take it to repair.
In my experience the green tint come from the green offset (less than -34 => green tint)
For me pre-2.3.3 driver is the best option : work out of the box, with no-tuning/tweaks.

The green tint is in direct correlation with the gamma to brightness ratio, not just the gamma. So pre 2.3.3 drivers without any setting and your colors are fine? Or you mean pre 2.3.3 colors with manual settings?

That is strange! :|
Stock ICS kernel is not good, yet pre 2.3.3 colors without setting anything works. Are you sure it's not just an issue with Voodoo colors?

Yes i'm sure it's not a voodoo issue, I've started with stock ics (no voodoo, no pre-2.3.3 drivers) and the colors was brownish.

CM10+ and VOODOO Color Settings for the Cappy

Hello, i've been googling all day about this but can't find the "prefect" settings for my cappy running CM10 (4.1.2). So i decided to create a new thread about this, you may find some setting but those are for CM9 not for CM10+.
If someone wants to join to the discussion then please post the best setting that work for you, eather if you are using CM or VOODOO Color Tuning settings, but lets us know to which one correspond your settings
Format to post your settings:
Red:

RE: CM 10.1 color tuning
I've been trying to find settings that have a similar feel across different Brightness modes, because brightness value affects the color as well. This is what I am currently at, but to be honest I still can't say I have found the "perfect" setting yet either. One thing I do for the most part hold constant is the low Gamma settings to keep the deep blacks, because the whites seem to still be punchy especially on 100% Brightness while sliding the color tuning around. Usually I have the phone at around 50% brightness however, and personally I prefer cooler colors. CM 10.1 Color Tuning:
Red: .525
Green: .552
Blue: .650
Red gamma: -36
Green gamma: -40
Blue gamma: -40

[Q] I can not change the color of the LED

In the past I can change the color of the LED with any program or with the setting in some of Ram I flash.
I change it to blue, yellow, red, green and ...
But recently I notify that I can't change it.
It can be just orange and green and nothing else
I test many programs and many Ram, but same result.
I guess the problem is due to the version of my Radio, but I am not sure.
Any suggestion?
Sorry for my awful English.
Radio
Can anyone with this radio change the led color to blue?

Hmm... I dont even think that it is possible to change led color on this device. I can just change the color to green/orange as you said with PAC rom in aokp settings. Are you sure that u changed the color of led? Was not it just some app to flick "led" on display?

Yes. I'm sure. I did it many many time. For example, with Light Flow. I set separate color for any notification.
desire s only have red, green and orange. No blue yellow or any other.

OnePlus display color temperature/white balance

Hi,
I want to get more cold color temperature. Also overall white balance - everything seems to be too warm and yellow. I can't change this using CM color Hue setting, because it doesn't change white balance, it only makes all colors to be weird. Also I found display when using revovery (for example , twrp), screen seems to be more cold color, no warm no yellow and they say Color OS has colder display too.
So it this some kernel related setting, etc? Some kind of hidden system configuration (build.prop or similar files)? How can I force colors to be colder, how can I change white balance. This is because that yellow colors are very annoying for me. Did you experienced the same?

Temporary fix for incorrect display of color saturation

Just a heads up to everyone who has an S10e The color saturation of the screen even when Vivid is enabled doesn't display the saturation correctly... To fix this "enable blue light filter" and set it at the lowest possible then go back and look at a picture, you will see how it is no longer washed out.
You can see the correct color saturation with "blue light filter" off while in the recent apps screen but once you return to the image it washes out. I figured out applying "blue light filter" corrects it for now!
I hope this helps!!!
I assume they are going to fix this in a future update. Cheers! ?

many thanks! wondered why it was looking washed out.

Seleting vivid to me doesn't do what it should be doing.
I have found that applying "blue light filter" and setting it's effect to minimum fixes the color saturation and reverses the washed out look on images. Another way is to go into visibility enhancements -> color adjustment -> then either apply a filter there like "Tritan" or "personalize color" and follow the steps. To me I cannot see any difference between the above steps or just simply applying "blue light filter" set to minimum. To me both look to correct the color saturation about the same.
-Dorian ?
Hey is this happening after the latest update or its happening right out of the box
Out of the box. Having it too
We should write to Samsung about this so they could release an update guys !
Good catch!
Now I know the reason why my Motorola Z3 Play displays beautiful colors when browsing my pictures and the S10e looks dull.
I thought Motorola's AMOLED display is oversaturated. It turns out that there is a bug in the display of the S10e.
Thanks for this. I just applied blue light filter and now it's fixed.
I don't notice a huge difference
Can someone tell me how to see how Natural & Vivid are washed out?
It makes quite a bit of difference on natural. By default white looks kind of yellowish. By enabling the blue light filter on minimal it looks like theres actually more blue added to the color balance. Like the default has a blue light filter applied that's stronger and it gets unset by the filter.
May be that it's by design though. They did make a point that the s10's displays have 30% or so less blue light because it's better for health.
Before I had the screen set to vivid, temp centered and then the green slider all the way to the left and the red slider almost all the way to the left. And the blue slider all the way to the right. This seems like a much better color balance than the default as well. Offcourse you do get the oversatured old style 'Samsung' colors this way. It makes the whites seem a lot whiter.
I also noticed this when I compared the displays of my S8 side by side my new S10e. I used the same content and the colour saturation on the s10e was noticeably duller. The blue light filter trick on lowest seems to have resolved it for me also.
I'll have to tinker with the vivid colour channel settings for fun to see if that does the same.
Good catch
have you Tried using the use sRGB option in developer options?

Screen color accuracy

I was testing the display quality and at least on the current Jan 5th security update, screen color accuracy is pretty garbage. Not sure if it was the same way on pie.
Using a display tester app the gamma is 1.8, saturation doesn't allow ever color square to be distinguishable, and the wide color gamut test fails. I've played with the settings in display>splendid and haven't been able to make it better.
Has anyone else experienced this behavior?

I do confirm gamma level 1.8 but Wide Color Gamut and other tests are ok. Android 10, .110.
I'm on .119. I definitely can't read the word android in the app's gamut test, no matter how I play with splendid settings. Can anyone else chime in with their findings too?
Sent from my ASUS_I01WDX using Tapatalk
I'm on .119, the wide gamut color test also fails here, gamma level is 1.8 as well. I tried the wide gamut color test on Pie (I don't remember the exact version number) not long after I received my phone and the test succeeded back then.
Interestingly, turning on "Disable HW overlays" in developer options makes the wide gamut color test succeed for me.
I can confirm that Disable HW overlays makes the wide color gamut test pass. The setting doesn't seem to persist across reboots, so it's not really a solution though. I'll probably create a thread on the zenfone support forum later about this and the terrible gamma issue.
Pure colors for Monitor testing. Pure red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, yellow, white, black, and grey. All Colors for monitor testing
