Tablet advice needed please - General Topics

Hi guys n girls
I'm looking at getting a budget tablet for my daughters birthday and was wondering if anyone has any advice on which one to go for.
I've been looking at the flypad superpad 6 which is Android ics, 1.2GB ram and has a8 cortex processor oh and its a 10.2 inch screen, all this for £100, anyone know if these are good or if you know of better for the same money
Cheers
Steve

New Nexus if your looking for a smaller device. First device to have Jelly Bean 4.1 and you'll get good software updates by going with a Nexus device.

One thing you might consider is the weight and size of the 10.4 inch tablets. I have an Acer, I really like it but it's heavy. Not bad for around the home but I wouldn't want to carry it everywhere. A 7 inch is much nicer for portability.
And as others have said, look at the new Nexus.

if you can find one the HP touchpad is very nice and cyanogenmod has it already hacked with dual booting.
Love it

Yeah the OP couldn't have asked that question at a better time. I agree with the above comment. Nexus 7 runs the faster jellybean 4.1. It'll get updated roms before other manufacturers. U may as well spend a few bucks more than one of those crappy Chinese imitations and get the nexus. It will be far better quality!

Definitely give the Nexus a look! If she will be using it for school then check out the HTC Flyer, it's about the same specs and uses a stylus that has great handwriting features!

Nexus 7 is a pretty sweet deal for the quality of device. Although if she is using it for school, it might be a good idea to look at the ASUS Transformer w/ keyboard for taking notes during class. Also, as was previously mentioned, the HTC Flyer has excellent handwriting support

Oh, And MS Surae RT or Pro is also nice.

Not everyone has the time & patience to do this. Plus this is for his daughter. If stuff happens & doesn't work It ruins the experience for her.

The Nexus 7 is the best 70inch tablet on the market and for an amazing price. You'll need to figure out if it's worth getting the 16GB or not.

A 80incj tablet would be too heavy to carry.

Nexus 7, best tablet you can buy for $200

Thanks for the info guys
I managed to get a try of the nexus and it was really nice and worth every penny, I was almost going to part with my cash to get one and then I got chance to check out the super pad, for the price of £98 I was sceptical it would be any good but it was amazing, although a bit hard to use with finger touch it has no trouble with the pen and also came.with a keyboard and case, I would recommend it to anyone on a budget as long as u don'tmind using a pen
Thanks again for the advice

What tablet should i buy?

I like reading A LOT, i have 4GB of epub book on my sensation ( the average book is ~1mb so do the math how many titles i have)
Now the 4.3" screen on the sensation aint quite for reading, im looking for a tablet, which one do u recommend (mostly for the reading aspect, so a screen in probably most important, given the fact that i will be looking at it for a long time)
P.s kindles arent for me, id still like to have a powerhouse( asus, g.tab, xoom, ipad, jetstream etc)
So what can u recommend me?

Nothing worth that price. If you don't mind the screen size... Grab a nook color or something. They're going for one hundred shipped. Or get a regular asus transformer.

He said powerhouse, not trash.
Get the Asus Transformer, since its mostly for reading, dual core is more than perfect. Handles movies and music very well too. And the keyboard attachments is amazing.

I think the htc evo view/flyer might be a winner. I haven't used it but I've been searching around for a while and waited for the htc flyer. then changed my mind according to reviews. however, there is a large customer base that love the htc evo view for note taking and reading especially. With the price drop to about 280 its definitely a steal or grab a used one for cheaper. I just bought it from an xda member on here waiting for it to arrive.
Then maybe in a few months maybe get another tablet or see what the ipad 3 looks like.
The htc jetstream i hear doesnt work as good as the view fyi.

Awe toche couldnt have said it better myself... lol. I would with the Transformer, I would wait though till they release the revised version of the Prime. All kinds of GPS issues and what not plus it going the same price as the original Prime. Or you could wait for the Asus MeMo.
If you find a deal on Lenovo K1, grab it. Can be rooted, and powerful,
with reasonable price. 1280X800 resolution.

Toshiba Thrive
Bought a Toshiba Thrive for my wife. Of course I use it more than her. It's wonderful. Dual Core processor, Nivedia graphics, 10 inch screen. Very fast, responsive. Plus you gotta love having HDMI out, USB ports. Rooted and it becomes even better.
iPad 3 releases soon?
I like the power of Android Tablets and I like the Asus Transformer; how will they stand up to iPad 3?
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus - I own this tab and it's perfect for reading. Just the right size for holding with one hand and very light. 10" tabs are too big for comfortably holding and reading for long periods. This tab also has great specs and is very responsive. I've had no issues running any apps or games on it.
Read the reviews.
I love my Galaxy Tab 7.7 for reading - powerful enough, is light as hell, and has a better screen than any other tablet available at the moment (just put it next to anything you like and the difference is obvious).
Plus its reader sized and will fit in my jacket pocket/jeans back pocket.
I've heard the galaxy tab is pretty damn good, but yea like others said Asus prime is pretty good
Ah dammit now.. i hate so many choices -.-"

Android tablet?

Hi,
I want to buy android based tablet. I want to know which the best option in different android tablets is. I am using internet on my recent phone and I can’t get any speed. So I want an android tablet and like to use its different applications. Any suggestions?
Thanks
If you want a 10 inch tablet, get the Touchpad
If you want a 7 inch tablet, get the Nexus 7
Also, why is this here?

At first, I took the thread to mean "what tablet would be a good compliment to the One X". But the OP isn't really clear, and based on the fact its his first post here, he may have posted to the wrong place.
+1 to the Nexus 7. Great price point, has reviewed really well, and its selling really well, which means solid support from software developers, accessory manufacturers, etc. is assured. If I were going to buy a tablet right now, it would probably be the Nexus 7.
I do love my HTC Flyer tablet. Beautiful build quality, as you would expect from HTC. But it was overpriced at release at $499. Its also over a year old now, so its not really a current contender specs-wise. HTC has been laying low as far as the tablet market, since the Flyer and Jetstream didn't sell well. But a new HTC tablet is rumored.
What I did learn from the Flyer, is that I really like the 7" form factor. Larger 10" form factors are nice for some things, but 7" is a really great compromise of functionality and portability. Easy and comfortable to hold with one hand for long periods of time, and doesn't take up much room in a carry-on bag while traveling by air. I can even shove it in the pocket of most of my pants, as I move from room to room in my house.

I hate to bash your tablet but the Xoom has the absolute worst screen I have ever seen on a tablet, which is the single most important part of a tablet. Not to mention it is big, bulky, and heavy. And it's old with outdated hardware.
Unfortunately, there aren't many decent Android tablets out there so as I said earlier the Nexus 7 is my recommendation. It's amazing, and the 7" form factor is the perfect size for portability. If you must go with a 10", then one of the ASUS Transformers is the best bet. The Prime, Infinity, or even the cheaper Tegra 3 one (I forget the name).

Android Tablet

I own an iPad 3rd generation and I am extremely unhappy with what Apple just did. I am however happy with my iPad (even tough I cant stand the iPhone and wouldnt trade my HTC One X for anything else). My experience with Android tablets isn't great. I played with the Galaxy Note Tab 10.1 and it sucks big time and the Nexus 7 is too small. The Transformer Prime TF300 sucked I find; a couple of friends have it and found it laggy and buggy (I got random reboot only looking at pictures. Maybe a custom rom can fix that?!)
I want to basically sell the iPad not because I am not happy with it but because I am fed up with Apple. What would be a good replacement for my iPad?
-I want retina display aka high DPI
-Smooth
-10"
What is out there that I missed?!
Asus transformer pad infinity. Seems to be what you are looking for.

exactly its a dual core go in reality isn't the galaxy faster with its quad Core? I don't care about resoultion I Care about Power and speed which ;g why I bought the galaxy note 2
Well,
more cores doesn't directly means that it has to be faster 100%. Apps need to be coded properly so they are scaling good with more cores, and I think all you will get is just more points in some Benchmarks, thats all.

Actually its dual core is better than a quad-core cause it has a different architecture, for overall smoothness I will suggest you the nexus 10 but for gaming I wouldnt go for this cause the resolution will kill all the performance in games(cause the gpu is not good enough) and expect poor support for tablet on android.
If you really care about gaming I suggest you an iPad 4 as it has great and more optimised games plus it also has the best gpu on any portable devices such tablets and smartphones.

FWIW, the versatility of the TF700 w/ the keyboard dock is very unique. It has replaced my laptop for sure. But, out-of-the-box performance was lacking. However, there are some excellent devs on here for it, which have negated any lag/performance issues.
That said, I was going to wait for the Nexus 10. The TF700 was a gift. I wouldn't trade

Depends on if u want portability. If u have the money the Nexus 10 is better spec wise. I don't know if I was playing with a defective Nexus 7 but it was really choppy. But that could have been my experience. Conclusion. Got the money? Get Nexus 10
I would go with the nexus 7 most def. I have 2 in household and for the price they are a bargain.

I have the Nexus 7 it is the perfect size for a tablet, I use my for doing some web surfing and playing some games. You sir may be looking for the Nexus 10 because your going to be playing games and watching movies so the big screen will be good for you. However Both devices are amazing I consider them being the same with diffrent screen sizes to be honest. Enjoy!
Cheers
hey guys, Thanks for all of your input, but i think ill have to get both, first the nexus 10 for performance and the amazing Screen, and the nexus 7 later on, for the portability, and on the go gaming, and web surfing Just have to wait 6 Weeks for the nexus 10 now Grrrr come on pay day's!,
again, i cant thank you all enough, it was hard to pick one so yeah ill have to get both lol
thanks, amatris
nexus 7 for portable
If you look to play games, watch movies and search internet, I suggest you should invest in Nexus 10.
It is much expensive, but high density screen and well functioning OS won't disappoint you.
Both works, but have you played with tablets of both sizes ?
It depends on you, but I, personally, found 7" sort of pointless after having a 5" phone. I can't really fit a 7" tablet comfortably in a pocket (I could probably get it in a blazer hip pocket, but that would be a large ridiculous flat block sticking out of me) so I don't think it's really and more portable - 7" or 10", it's not going in a pocket, it's going in a bag.
I think 7" is good for those who are looking for more of a larger-screen iPod Touch - an "entertainment device" - not so much web-browsing. I found watching video significantly more "immersive" on a 10" tablet. 7" is a good size for an "eReader +", as well.
