[Q] What rooting method to use? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I think to buy me the Smartbook FUN PAD SE to test some development ideas. For this purpose I need to root this device. I have searched the web and havent found a manual for rooting this specific device.
My question is: What rooting methode should i try to root this device (Android 2.2 Froyo) and is the methode of rooting device specific and/or system version specific?

Wow Froyo. A way back when, we used z4root to root froyo. You could try using superoneclick which contains a collection of various rooting exploits. It's not too uncommon for one method to work on a number of devices with the same version (although specific vendors patch those exploits). If it hasn't been rooted in the past though its anyone's guess. It looks like a fairly unmodified version of froyo so I wouldn't be surprised if a known method worked on it.

This device has no usb debug mode, is there another option to root it?

No debug mode setting under settings>Applications>development? well just tick unknown sources under applications and use z4root. Its root in apk format no cabling necessary. just download and run it using your tablets browser. There are several versions of z4root, you may have to try a couple before you get one that works.

kingo root is safe, if it dumbs anything onto your phone just delete them, i have safely rooted a couple cheap phones with it and see no problem.
I can verify this, too. I rooted about 5-6 devices with it, and it did it flawlessly with them all.
What I remember using it with is the Samsung Galaxy SII (i9100 and i9100g) and a Tab 3 and others which I don't remember.
However, all it does is that it installs SuperSU to your device only, and nothing else. One Click Root is also as known as Kingo, but it installs a custom recovery, too, if you choose to.

Yes I have also successfully rooted my device but I read online that kingo send the imei number and other sensitive information to a server in China.. have you heard about this?

I never heard about it, but I just googled it and you seem to be right. But I had it rooted for more than 8 months now, and I see no problems at all. I think that it uploads your IMEI code to their servers for 2 reasons. To know what is your device and get the correct rooting files so that it doesn't load your computer with a huge amount of files for devices that you don't have, and the 2nd reason is maybe they keep a counter or something like that of the number of devices rooted using their app. I said I am not sure about this, but I predict these are the reasons. And again, I didn't have any issues at all since I rooted my phone. However, if you just want to feel safe you can use One Click Root.
This is a post by a Forum Moderator speaking about that: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2503591&page=5

It's about trust! I don't know which phone/s you own, but for Sony smartphones/phablets there's Flashtool.
Personally, I prefer rooting my phone with Flashtool.
Some of its key features:
- unlock bootloader
- root
- ROM flashing
- kernel flashing
I never tried Kingo and I've heard only bad things about it.
What I used in the past- never experienced any trouble- is Vroot. Just to be sure, I followed these steps:
Install Vroot
Let it download the drivers for your phone
Turn off your Internet Connection
Connect phone
Root it
uninstall Vroot
delete all "leftovers"
It won't work with Kingo. Kingo wants you to stay connected to the Internet for some odd reasons. I'm paranoid, so I would never recommend it! What if it sends your phone's IMEI, ID, number to their servers?
Again, it's all about trust!

How do you know it doesn't send your sensitive info to there servers before you turn off your internet connection? ??

I guess it depends on what you consider "safe".
I used KingoRoot to root my tablet, and after it was done, I found under Developer Options, Process, these KingoRoot background apps ...
SuperUser (ads.process)
SuperUser
Its the first one, that fits my definition of "unsafe".
I know this thread is old but I thought I'd add more warnings to Kingoroot.
I just tried to root my phone using Kingoroot. The apk installed and root just fine on Android 4.x.x. and it does require internet connection. It doesnt tell u what it uses it for.
Any ways, I tried to use Kingoroot again on Android 7.x.x and the apk failed the root so I downloaded the PC rooting program from their site. Low and behold, it downloaded a bunch of malwares and virus as bundle.
Long story short, stay far far away from Kingoroot.
KingoRoot update 2018
So installing the Kingoroot Android for PC on my laptop = loads of ****e installed on laptop
Running kingoroot and connecting phone = failed root & loads of ****e installed on phone.
So NO. This software only installs crapware, and does not root android LG phones
(tried with 3 phones - silly me!!)
PROOF AVAILABLE ON REQUEST.
(wankers)
Thanks for your suggestion, will leave away from it.
Can Kingoroot be made "safe"?
I've read plenty of sketchy stuff about Kingoroot. Even so, suppose you use a phone that has no SIM card, that has no Gmail (or a fake Gmail) account attached to it. If Kingoroot would root such a phone, couldn't you get root with it then install TWRP, use TWRP to completely wipe the device, then either reinstall rooted stock or a custom ROM?

Sure I have, and you can expect this to be common practice on every corner. That's just the reality of today's big data collection. So I wouldn't exactly call the root "unsafe" based on that.

Sorry, which craps installed on your laptop?
And on the phone?
Currently I didn't see nothing suspicious, so if you give me the name of the crap installed I can search on my devices.

[Q] rooting ANY Android device? (last resort for uncommon devices)

Hello!
I'm well aware that there are plenty of threads around which touch this topic. However, in my case many of them are unsatisfying. (I can't say all of them since there are too many!)
I've got a SWITEL S57D Samba running Android 4.2.2. There's almost nothing on XDA about my phone. I desperately want to have root on it and already tried some of the tools which are supposed to root "(almost) any" device, such as Framaroot and Towelroot... but with no success. I'm yet to try Kingo Android Root or some of the countless other tools but I somehow feels as if I'm wasting my time if I don't properly know what to look for.
Have I missed a tool which can root literally ANY device?
How to determine which tool/method will root my device? (for a device that is never listed in any compatibility list since it's uncommon)
What could be indicators? (Android version, HW chip, Stock ROM, ...?)
If there are no FAQs or Tools available for my device, how can I get around to rooting my phone by myself?
What do I need to achieve in general? (run process as root? add user to group? set file permissions? ...?)
What reading material is out there?
What is the expected amount of time needed for a tech-savvy person which knows how to hack Linux?
Are there devices which can't be rooted?
I'm looking forward to insightful answers. Cheers!
So it turns out that Kingo Root was able to root my phone!!! (even though it was displayed as a HTC device)
It went to fastboot and my Win7 didn't recognize my android device anymore... I had to select the driver from the list "ASUS->Composite ADB driver". Then it all went fine.
Still it would be nice to get an answer for the questions I've asked in my previous post!
I just had a Switel Sky S50D (Android 4.2.2) to root for a friend. It worked very well with Kingo Android Root.
Thanks for the info. :good: This was the first I tried on this device. Just had to enable usb-debugging.
Kingo Root named it Alps S50D SKY, Windows however first showed is at a HTC Device bofore installing drivers.

How to make root on Acer Iconia One (B1-770)?

Hi, couple weeks ago I bought Acer Iconia One 7 B1-770-K476 NT.LBTAA.001. Seems that it is a new model and I can't find any info or faq how to make root on it. I tried different tools (framaroot, kingroot and others) but no success.
Also strange thing in setting (Apps), no option (button) to move app to SD card. Install some apps and tablet is full.
Will be glad for your help.
At first want to root it. Then need recovery to be able to use custom firmwares.
Thanks!
I used king root to root my tablet, but we gonna need a custom recovery to install xposed and be able to move apps to the sd
I also used kingroot to get root. The PC version, not the apk. To move apps to SDcard im using the paid version of Link2sd, the free one doesnt let you move the whole apps. I havent found any custom roms or recovery though.
carlosomar222, or unleashurfreak, can any of you elaborate?
I was unable to use KingRoot (PC version) because it never detected my tablet.
Where did you get the drivers?
You can find drivers on the acer support web site, but you can just try using the apk instead, its easier, by the way I managed to install xposed framework using flashfire that way you can run a module to use the SD card as internal storage , now we just need a custom recovery, i also replaced king root with super su using a script I found on a website, I can get the link if anyone is interested

The KingRoot APK did not work.
It was unable to find a solution for my device.
Could it possibly be because I have the latest update installed?
That's why I want to try the PC version instead.
Unfortunately, the drivers fail to install on my PC.
Are you also using B1-770?
Has anyone else successfully rooted this device?
And if you have, could you please share the steps you took to do so?
Really appreciated!
I also have a B1-770 with the latest update. The PC version of King Root failed.

Don't try to root b1-770 models, is brick your device.
I have tried many PC/APK rootkit, nothing work. For finish, I have returned the tablet on the store to get new one, OS have crashed (many errors with build-in apps, wifi problems, startup of device very long).
In my tests, I have found the reason of impossibility to root this tablet;
- Bootloader is locked
- No pre-root
- Android 5 have more security about rootkit
- Rootkit is only made for Android 4.x and lower
- Acer have added few security and reject all modifications on system files (with and without the Android protection)

For now, no. Many reason make it hard to root. is not impossible, but no right solution for this tablet.
Keep in mind...
- Android 4.x and lower have few security breach and can be rooted with many way; B1-770 is under Android 5.0.1
- Other Android device are pre-root (User on device is not root but if you connect by ADB, you have the root); B1-770 is not pre-root, SU is protected (trying modifing this files, and others make a crash when trying to update OS)
- Unlock bootloader, or unlocked bootloader can make easy root with right kit; B1-770 have a locked bootloader, Acer not offer any way to unlock it.
Is possible to root, but need a skill with Android OS, can compile your own Android OS version, insert root, and upload/replace it on the tablet. But you need to know what you made. You can also extract bootloader, modifing it, etc.... but need a high skill in Android security.
DON'T TRY FASTBOOT; Under ADB, you can reboot the device on Fastboot mode. But Windows not have the drivers for handle this mode. You need to Reset/reboot tablet for returning in Android OS (the hole between power and volume button).
I have searched many roots, because whant to move installed APP on my SD Card (with symlink), Android have removed this feature since 4.4.x (some devices have always this feature, is added by the developper). Rooting this tablet is totally unsafe; don't known if you loose some options of tablet (ex; my cell phone, if is rooted, camera stop working, with my other tablet, the wifi have some problems to keep connection long time).
My suggestion; wait a root and few comments about this before root. You must keep a unrooted tablet running good between a bricked tablet can't run anything.

This can be answered simply by doing a Google search for:
"How to root (your model number)"
If that doesn't find anything then there is not a known method for that device, you'll have to continue experimenting with app or PC.
Or, you can verify your bootloader is unlocked, if it is then you can try learning how to build a custom recovery for your device then use it to flash SuperSU.zip to root the devicd. There is plenty of information on Google and here at XDA that explains building custom recovery so don't bother asking, just do some googling searching and you'll find plenty of info for building custom recovery, building won't be easy but finding the information will be easy.

360 ROOT but it's in Chinese almost like kingroot ui I've rooted so far three umx V351 but learned not to remove Booster.apk because internal memory becomes unstable.
Very unstable device Umx is not around any more and Spreadtrum is now part of China mobile I also am having trouble locating the the original firmware for this device.

rooting the nano slim plus (m3) ?

"sumvision cyclone nano slim plus" (1gb version) I think this thing is re-branded by a lot of different people I think the flashing calls it stv3 or STB3 or something similar, I have seen people calling it the "m3" or "Pivos Xios DS m3" running android 4.0.4
I really needed this box rooting so I asked a friend got advised to use "oneclickroot" which after got installed looked like malware it was asking me to install scanners to make sure my system was secure before rooting and stuff ugh yeah this looks like a scam.
but whatever they claim to be able to root "Pivos Xios DS m3" I let it scan anyway and it told me it couldn't root. so I try king root (which is posted here on xda) seems like the same thing as onelcickroot, its scanning installing "game boosters" and also failed to root...
also tried Framaroot which wasn't trying to forcebloat on me but failed to find a working root method.
not sure what todo next.... was trying to get it recognized via usb to try that kind of root but I don't think it is configured to be a slave, it wouldn't detect on the usb cables I have with debugging on or off.
it does have a built in recovery mode "dirty boot" that can flash everything from android updates (which have not been updated since 2013) to linux xbmc distros. it should be possible to root with that right? with an image that updates the root stuff ? right ?
any suggestions ?
thanks
is there no generic image file I can flash over the rom in "recovery mode"?
recovery mode is unlocked and will flash anything it seems.
the usb ports are not pc connecting ports more just for devices to be plugged in.
I wasted several days flashing, redoing trying different root things, I have searched long most information seems to be about flashing Kodi rather than using android.
this post is my last hope.
nevermind I think I fixed it ^-^
