Android's post on Google + ::
Want to get your hands on Android 4.1, Jelly Bean? Starting in mid-July, we’ll begin rolling out over-the-air updates to Galaxy Nexus, Motorola Xoom and Nexus S, and we’ll also release Jelly Bean to open source.
nice features but i feel like the design is a downgrade from ICS
the new search widget is ugly, same for the notifications, in ICS all uniform and now different sices and buttons everywhere
also why has the nexus 7 phone layout and now tablet layout? such a waste of space
This looks awesome! I love the notification bar design now! and project butter, makes you kinda think what they left out because I'm pretty sure originally it was going to be 5.0 but the OEMS told google to slow down because there updates are barely out.
Pushing me more and more towards a Nexus device in the future, though Sony and one or two others seem to be pretty timely with updates.
Hope it will come to the Iconia A700 Can't wait for it.
Everything sounds so awesome.....:good:
So excited! Looks really nice, many new features
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA
some quick great features
* project butter ui
* better touch response
* offline voice typing
* offline maps
* google now
* better camera app
* smart updates
I hope JB lends it self to bigger screened phones (Galaxy Note) better than previous versions of Android. So it would seem that we will have stock ROMs available by the end of July as well.
What's new in Android 4.1
also
as he asked a question for google search it spoke back, and yet nothing was said up front but I wonder if that isn't Majel?
So it will come to international Motorola Xoom? I have one and I don't have ICS though, I'm not informed but I believe there is an update but only for US is it?
Can anyone tell more about Google Now, at that time i can not rly understand what is this?
another thing
I really like how Google is sending out a Hardware Development Kit to all manufacturers now with Android updates so that it will allow manufacturers to get their updates out faster.
Try this article :
http://techcrunch.com/2012/06/27/google-now/
I take the bet that 2 weeks after relasing the sourcecode of 4.1 there will be a working build form my SGS at XDA!
thanks to all developers at XDA!
thanks to Google!
Android rocks!
Cant wait for this!!!
I'm very glad about all the new things in JB
Hope my S2 will have it soon , but anyway i'll take a Nexus 7 to get it as fast as possible DD:
Project butter ui.
Hm. Nice USP.

Correct me if I misunderstood the new cpu on touch feature but doesn't this mean android will now copy the ios method of prioritising touch events, or is it just literally making cpu run nearer maximum?

Wasn't the iOS priority thing debunked a bit after the rumour got out?

We're here live at Google I/O, and the folks from Mountain View have just shared something rather sweet -- a coalition of manufacturers and carriers committed to making sure their Android devices receive the very latest updates. All four major US carriers (and Vodafone) as well as HTC, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG and Motorola are on board, and all will guarantee you timely upgrades to the latest version of Android for eighteen months after release, provided the hardware's capable. Now that's change we can believe in.

Good news?
Also Honeycomb 3.1
http://www.gsmarena.com/events_roun...okia_and_microsoft_later_in_may-news-2629.php
great news. had this program been in place a year ago there wouldn't be so many bad attitudes in the vibrant forum -_-
What does "timely" mean? And does this represent a change from what they were previously doing? My impression is that most/all of these companies would say that they already roll out updates in a "timely" fashion, regardless of what we impatient users think, and that this is just a commitment not to stop doing that.
lol we'll see. i'll believe it when it happens, but my fingers are crossed cuz that'd be awesome!
don't hold your breath.
I think an actual number should be set in place like 3 months after initial release of the newest version of android? Im not sure if thats reasonable or not but the galaxy S series didnt even start getting 2.2 updates until 2.3 was released. Thats just plain wrong haha.
Google announcement bad news for G2X
This is typical Google BS - saying one thing and getting everyone ready for that, and then turning everything upside down with a different "plan".
2.4 was supposed to be a functional update for 2.3 the optimize it for dual core performance. If you search "android 2.4" - you will still see most links stating just that.
Now, from the above announcement link, it is supposed to be the end-all OS for all devices. Don't expect to see that any time soon now. The "original" 2.4 was supposed to be coming out soon, and I was looking forward to a port or possibly even an G2X/O2X update.
I am annoyed enough with Google that I suggest that take their "Ice Cream Sandwich" and stick it both up where the sun does not shine and where it will melt!
I want a duel core OS and I want it now, as per their earlier alleged plan - it was due out in April.
Bull****. We won't be seeing 2.3 anytime soon.
Below are some screen shots of Ice Cream Sandwich. More in the Album linked below.
Looks pretty legit.
Thoughts on ICS?

Not sure what you are saying, android.git.kernel.org Is still down and there was an announcement by Google and Samsung telling they postponed the October 11 event
And yea do you mean they released a sdk preview - I think no as of now
...
That's more like it The other 'leaked screenshots' looked 10x worse than this haha
Looks much slicker IMO
I love that blue miui style clock, anyone know of one on the market close to that?
I don't get why all of Google's products have to look like they were created in the 90's. With all of the amazing artistic talent out there why dont they hire some people to come up with something a little more visually pleasing.

seems like every version goes more towards TRON look and feel
Looks nice and simple. Sharp edges, basic lines ...
Let's wait and see - as always in those cases real one can still be very different ...
I'm not seeing anything remotely interesting about the appearance of ICS. I along with most other people here, will just install our favourite Launcher, port across our current themes/set-ups, (or create new ones), and simply enjoy the under-the-bonnet improvements that ICS brings.
I'm not sure i like the blue highlights in the status bar for example, but again, everyone will just theme it to a colour they like. I'll be waiting to see what comes with Cyanogenmod and what Themes are included with it.
I totally agree with iphone fans that Android has, and probably always will, looked crap out of the box. It's strength is the ability to get creative and make it look good.
I am disappointed, UI looks like **** on these screenshots. I hope that it will be fast.

probably why it doesn't look so great to begin with. they encourage users to customize by not putting too much effort into visuals

This thread will probably be closed down at some point since iOS threads aren't allowed on XDA, but until then I think it's ultimately a MIUI/Windows Phone cross which looks... underwhelming.
Well, at least the UI does have some elements which are better than in any Android OEM UI or Custom UI I have seen,
The notification bar is transparent and many other bars,windows and so on seem to be transparent like in Windows 7 Aero (Which the idiots in Microsoft choose to remove in Win8)
The black bars,black on screen software keys in stock android(Devices with on screen soft keys) are ugly. I see a lot of visual improvement that Android could make to look better

You daft bro, or just an Apple fanboy?
The notification bar, well, picture related
Soft keys don't require a black bar, which you would know by looking at one or two pages of the post your homescreen thread.

For me it is nice, the multitasking is complimenting the screen size of the iPhone as well as the lock screen, love the parallax effect, we all know that iOS is a closed system but i think we need to give some credits for their efforts.

Now that that's over with, let's get down to the serious business of speculating about what desserts start with the letter "L":
I'm pretty sure that the ship has sailed on "Lemon Meringue Pie" ...
Unless Google plans to make "Golden Ticket" candy contests an ongoing thing then "Lemonheads" are out too ...
In fact, once you shut down all the desserts that start with "Lemon" there isn't much left, so I'm calling it early... the next major Android OS name will be:
Lollipop
After that, it's wide open - but if there really is a Santa Claus ... please let it be "MoonPie" ... pleeeease ...

I luv Kitkats. Maybe I'll change my Infuse for an s5 next year to get kitkats
I guess S will be Smarties, the best candy to become smart!
BTW India was suggesting L for Lassi. I'm not Indian, but man the Lassi really tastes great. Addicted to it now
This is only partially on topic, but I'm guessing everyone has seen the possible photo of the new Nexus 4.
Is anyone thinking about jumping ship when Google releases their new phone? It's been my plan for the past year since I've been using an Infuse with a horribly cracked digitizer. I don't know how I feel about the likely possibility that it will be made by LG again though. I was hoping Motorola would be the manufacture because I like some of the phones they've been making lately.
Is anyone thinking about going to a different phone? I'm not on a contract so the Nexus 4 is pretty much all I can afford, but I still enjoy discussing the nice things I can't have.
any update on release of kitket ?
any update on release of kitket ? is it declared, that its going to be release in oct ?? or all is humor....
http://www.techhive.com/article/2053316/latest-android-kit-kat-leak-shows-off-new-interface.html
According to that article (and a few others), KitKat is already leaked per Nexus 5. Seems the OS is faster and not as resource heavy (which is promising for older devices like my Infuse), but reports indicate the first cut of 4.4 is a little buggy (not unusual). Seems the camera flicker is fixed (woohoo) and that there are other visual improvements. Overall, there is more good news than bad, but 4.4 appears to be more technical improvements than anything (which, again, is welcome news for Infuse, and hopefully will make it just as portable as previous versions).
Keep all conversation to this topic to already existing thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44186112
Appreciate your future attention to this.

Google is already testing its next Android KitKat update, according to a tweet posted by @LlabTooFeR,*who has accurately reported on the mobile industry in the past. The update, Android 4.4.3, allegedly carriers the build number KTU72B and may fix a number of things, but will reportedly also focus on a camera bug in the Nexus 5. That phone has been constantly knocked for having a mediocre camera, and earlier updates have tried to fix issues.
In fact, way back in December Google launched Android 4.4.1 which was supposed to clean up the Nexus 5 camera. It still isn’t quite up to snuff, however, and earlier this month Google promised that an update*with a fix for the camera was on the way. We think it’s also possible that Google could just issue an update for that specific phone, instead of dedicating an entire Android release for a single device, so it’s possible there are other performance enhancements and tweaks under the hood that we just don’t know about yet.
So far it sounds like Android 4.4.3 is relatively minor, which means you won’t have to fret if you’re picking up a new flagship that might not receive an update for many more months. The next major update probably won’t come until June, when Google may introduce it during its annual I/O developers conference.

Im thinking (hoping) we will get a new camera app, Google acknowledged the Nexus 5 camera bug and maybe it's just a conspiracy theory of mine, but the New HTC One (M8) has a lot of camera features in sense , not to mention the depth sensor and they said they were working with google to support it on the Google Play Edition of the M8 , and this version just happens to be released in 2-3 weeks, you can just preorder it, what do you guys think?
Man they spit them out fast :laugh:

Ha. You never know. Hopefully, we will see some awesome spike in camera performance... Not on the HTC One M8 level, but certainly a boost...
Now if only they could fix the Moto G camera... Hahaha.
Hope that this update makes the camera better, that is the only thing I think anyone could complain.
