[Q] SK17a ICS Update, Root? - General Questions and Answers

Hello, people!
I have a SK17 that still in the warranty period, so I don`t want to unlock it`s bootloader because of it. I`ve been noticed by e-mail today that the Wotan Server has the ICS update now avaliable for my device and i just want to know if that rooting method that root without unlock the bootloader will work after the update, i mean, is possible update the Android version without changing the FW version?
So I can keep my rootable .58 and have ICS running in my device. Another question is about the battery life. It is worth the upgrade? Thanks and sorry for the poor english. =D

[Q] Reaching carrier unlocked stock ICS status

Hi, I have recently come into possession of a carrier locked gingerbread tmobile sensation. What I want to do is unlock the phone, but keep it stock so it can still recieve ota updates.
My question is, what is the best way to do this?
If I root and unlock and put it in s-off stock, will it still receive ota updates? Will the updates function normally? Will they interfere with s-off/s-on or remove root?
If so, which is the best method of unlocking?
My goal is to carrier unlock the phone and keep it as stock as possible.
Im sorry if these may seem like dumb questions but I did my research before and everything was still unclear to me.
Thank you
You should S-OFF and SuperCID

If you want to unlock networks you will have to get root iirc. There is a thread titled unlock all sensations for free

Hot to downgrade my mini pro sk17i from ICS 4.0.4 to GB 2.3.4

Hi experts,
Purely i'm new to this blog and also the android platform. I don't even know about unlocking bootloader and all that stuff (just heard my friends saying). I have an xperia mini pro sk17i and was having GB 2.3.4 at the time of purchasing. Now when official update for ICS 4.0.4 had came,i updated without knowing that it will affect my xperia's performance. Now i started getting lags in games which was very smothly running in previous OS (GB). I would like to switch back to GB and want to root ( also from my friends conversation) the GB.
I need a complete guide for this because i should not end in a brick state, whether to do an unlock bootloader, or flash it, which tools to use and all.... Kindly help me guys.......

Maybe this is Stock but it is 2.3.4 and is stable but you have to unlock bootloader
You need not unlock the bootloader to downgrade. Just use flashtool and get your GB ROM. Have a look at here http://mytechencounters.wordpress.com/2012/03/17/root-your-xperia-phone-without-voiding-warranty

Why would you not want Jelly Bean 4.1?
I think you need to unlock the bootloader, install a custom bootloader, then you can flash a prerooted ROM
My problem in rooting is I have 1.94.631.3
I expect Rogers will not see 4.0.4 for a long time.

Rogers didn't limit us like AT&T did with our southern users. Go to htcdev.com, register and unlock your bootloader. Once complete, you can push TWRP via fasboot to your phone. From there, you can boot into recovery via bootloader and flash a custom ROM that is already rooted for you.

AFAIK, JB is still a work in progress, I think OP is looking for something stable for a DD. You're right about that last part though, Canadian carriers are stupid slow in getting updates pushed to their users.
I read if you go 4.04 you will have setting issues with LTE when you upgrade to 4.1
I also read CynogenMod 10 is pretty stable not too many complaints, daily updates.
If I read right the process where you unlock the bootloader, push TWRP should work with my device too ....
It should not matter I have 1.94.631.3
Maybe I am waiting for nothing.

When stable builds of JB get released, I'm sure the dev community will be able to troubleshoot any issues.
It's only the AT&T version of the HOX that is locked down. All other variants (to my knowledge) are unlockable through htcdev.com. Once you have an unlocked bootloader, you will be able to flash TWRP and then a new ROM.
But I don't want to lost all my setting , apps , msg , ect . ...

If your bootloader is locked - no root for 4.4.4 yet, if ever
If your bootloader is unlocked, you can flash a custom recovery and root.
Cannot downgrade from 4.4.4 and it does not matter if your bootloader locked or unlocked

If you buy an unlock code from china and unlock your phone (please note that during unlocking the bootloader your phone will be reset and wiped, including pictures and other user files) then you can flash custom recovery and root.
Even unlocked and rooted, you will not be able to downgrade - you are stuck on 4.4.4.
For unlocking and flashing custom recovery read this post:

U cannot root without unlocking the Bootloader, if u were still on KitKat u had a chance, but the exploit has been patched with lollipop, it was a kernel exploit that allowed apps like towelroot to crash Android, and while it's crashed and confused, the app runs a code that allows it to open a terminal and give root access, this has been patch tho, so apps like that don't work anymore, u could backup all your data, root, then restore your data and u won't lose a thing
