very good job:good:
I hate to be a moron, but I am new to this. I just got the GT-P6200L a couple of days ago. I updated to ICS and it works perfectly, but I cannot root it. Unless I can find a way to root ICS, I am going to go back to honeycomb.
I downloaded the two zip files from the top of this thread:
http://www.4shared.com/rar/ShRHf_QA/Odin3v185.html
http://www.4shared.com/rar/8F0WIp9H/P6200L_STOCK_VJKL4_REV_04_FIRM.html
I noticed that the Odin also included a .pit file (as indicated in the original post). I do understand how to load the .pit file with Odin.
The other file (P6200L_STOCK_VJKL4_REV_04_FIRMWARE.rar) contained several files. I am not sure what to do with these files. The files are:
MODEM_P6200LVJKL4_REV_04_CL1089917.tar.md5
P6200L_APBOOT_P6200LVJLA3_CL616007_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
P6200L_CODE_P6200LVJLA3_CL616007_REV02_user_low_ship_16G.tar.md5
P6200L-CSC-MULTI-ZTOLA2.tar.md5
Am I supposed to load the .RAR file into Odin? Or, am I supposed to load one or more of the .md5 files into Odin?
If someone could give me a better idea about what to do with these files, it would be much appreciated.
My current config is:
Model number: GT-P6200
Android version 4.0.4
My current baseband version is: P6200XXLQ1
Kernel Version: 3.0.15-P6200XXLQ1-CL776352 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jun 25 14:42:23 KST 2012

Thank you. Tried that one already, too. No joy.
I'm ready to go back to honeycomb. I've tried so many different root methods that I've lost count. I get the same error every time, regardless of the root.zip file I attempt to use.
The error message is: E: signature verification failed
Thank you for trying to help.
Dude, almost everyone had the same problem after ics upgrade, there r posts everywhere... You can use heimall, but most ppl r too stupid too install correct drivers, so i recommend mobile odin and aorth's cwm 6.0.1.0. (Rename his file to recovery.img and u r ready to go) when thats done, flash that root file with flashed cwm. Done!!!
Couple of other ways with temporary cwm but the best ways anyways is to flash aorth's cm9 after cwm. Root, is of course included.

I understand exactly what you are telling me. Thank you for your reply. From what I am reading, my GT-P6200L has to be rooted already in order to use Mobile Odin. The entire problem I am having is not being rooted. I am trying to accomplish root. Did I misunderstand something in regard to being rooted before using Mobile Odin?
Oh yeah, i forgot, ur right ^^ hear ya go: if unable to use heimdall, use temp. cwm to flash root
But why you dont just flash cm9? Ever tried it? Not many ppl here do like samsungs touchwiz bloatware, do you? Just install permanent cwm from aorth with heimdall or mobile odin after root and you r good to flash cm9. Just follow instructions in aoths thread.
ROOT AFTER ICS UPDATE
Flash with heimdall. Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508703
Code: heimdall flash --recovery recovery.img
Use aorth's img version from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29077817
And rename to recovery or type full file name instead of recovery.img
Than flash root+supersu from recovery. flashable zips here:
http://goo.im/superuser and that root.zip what u already have
Or use this method here with temporary cwm touch
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28689474
Confirmed working but only temporary cwm with that way.

Geez, I have the same question... Guess we can´t use expresso_recovery method, better not to risk and wait for a solution anyway...

Im agree with you. Waiting is better
I used "expresso_recovery" but it did not work right. The tab just looped the boot image. It did install CWM and I used it to load stock image and then move to CM9 again. I want to run the OTA 4.0.4 stock image rooted, but I think we need help from the devs.
I updated yesterday to 4.0.4 flashed cwm through Odin and then installed root file through cwm same files I did for 4.0.3 and everything works fine. Actually even better cause when I flashed cwm on 4.0.3 I didn't have the Amin. in cwm that I do now.

I odin'd back to stock just to take the ota update. I re-rooted using the same method I used for 4.0.3, but managed to increment my custom flash count a few extra times...Reason is because of the /system/etc/install-recovery.sh script.
If that file exists on the factory firmware, and you have a custom recoery installed, it will overwrite your custom recovery with the stock recovery at every boot. The way around it is to check for the existance of that file and rename it or erase it, or, as in my case, I flashed TWRP and used it's built in file manager to mount /system and rename the file before I booted, once I realized why the recovery was reverted to stock.

Or pervert it for your own... uh... perversions. Most of the custom ROMs support an init.d function that lets you install scripts that start at run time. Tools like System Tuner can also put their stuff in init.d if you have it. The stock ROM (like most stock ROMs) does not have it. Using the install_recovery.sh file, you can add it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772616&highlight=init+d
First of all, I am not to be held responsible for any damage this may do to your device.
This guide assumes that you know what you are doing (NOT FOR BEGINNERS). I would advise the newbies to do a lot of research and read up on the basic and advanced "HOW TOs" which are all available on xda-developers and a lot of other forums before asking questions about stuff you should already know before attempting a procedure like this. That being said, I WILL NOT RESPOND TO THESE TYPES OF QUESTIONS.
NOTES:
This procedure is only for the P5100
This procedure was performed under Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with all required drivers installed
This procedure will not lock your device to Globe Philippines
This procedure will wipe your device including the Internal Storage
You will require a micro-SD card with at least 1GB free space
You must follow the instructions to the letter
You may opt to backup your device before performing this procedure
Instructions:
1. Download the following files:
ODIN: http://www.mediafire.com/?lh0batz9fjaalps
Original P5100 Stock Philippine ROM: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/165239219/07f45f2/P5100XWALE2_P5100OLBALE1_XTE.zip.html

SuperSU: http://download.chainfire.eu/212/SuperSU/CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip
2. Copy the following files (which you downloaded from Step 1) to the root of your micro-SD card:
GT-P5100_P5100XXBLI2-OTA-P5100XWALE2_GLB_268219552.zip
GT-P5100_P5100XXCLI1-OTA-P5100XXBLI2_GLB_279272235.zip
CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip
3. Boot your device into download mode and connect it to your computer
4. Unzip the file P5100XWALE2_P5100OLBALE1_XTE.zip (it will unzip to P5100XWALE2_P5100OLBALE1_P5100DXLD3_HOME.tar.md5)
5. Start ODIN, click the PDA button and select the P5100XWALE2_P5100OLBALE1_P5100DXLD3_HOME.tar.md5 which was unzipped in Step 4, then click the Start button and wait until it finishes and reboots your device
6. Disconnect your device from your computer and boot it into download mode again, then reconnect it to your computer
7. In ODIN, click the Reset button, uncheck the Auto Reboot button then click the PDA button and select the GT-P5100_ClockworkMod-Touch_recovery_6.0.1.2.tar file which was downloaded in Step 1, then click the Start button and wait until it finishes, then power down the device.
8. Disconnect your device and boot it into recovery mode (you will now have CWM Touch 6.0.1.2 installed in place of the stock recovery)
9. Flash the OTAs and SuperSU with CWM in the following order:
GT-P5100_P5100XXBLI2-OTA-P5100XWALE2_GLB_268219552.zip
GT-P5100_P5100XXCLI1-OTA-P5100XXBLI2_GLB_279272235.zip
CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip
10. Perform a wipe/factory reset in CWM then reboot your device (please take note of step 11)
11. When you select reboot system now, it will ask you if you want to fix the issue of overwriting CWM with the stock recovery, select YES (This step is necessary to retain CWM under a stock ROM)
12. When your device boots up, proceed by setting it up as you do normally
If all goes well, you now have the latest Stock Jelly Bean OTA for your P5100 which will be rooted and have CWM as your recovery.

UPDATE:
I re-flashed but in the following order, and included the PIT file in Odin, and the volume is now fixed, I already performed the operation successfully on two more P5100s:
1. Wipe the entire device (factory reset)
2. Flash P5100XWALE2_P5100OLBALE1_P5100DXLD3_HOME.tar.md5 with Odin while also using signed_espresso_20120220_16G.pit
3. Boot normally and setup the device as you would
4. Flash GT-P5100_P5100XXBLI2-OTA-P5100XWALE2_GLB_268219552.zip in stock recovery and boot up normally
5. Flash GT-P5100_P5100XXCLI1-OTA-P5100XXBLI2_GLB_279272235.zip in stock recovery and boot up normally
6. Flash GT-P5100_ClockworkMod-Touch_recovery_6.0.1.2.tar with Odin but with no PIT file
7. Flash CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip with CWM then select fix stock recovery when rebooting from CWM

I tried using 3 different roms already and I keep getting the same message with Andy on his back and his front door open with a red triangle saying can not open package or some thing along those lines. I think flash stock firmware from for example www.samfirmware.com then begin again from the beginning !!!

I'm kind of at loss. Would that mean that I would have to down grade to the 4.0.3. firmware?
The Tablet is already rooted. Using the method that you listed and using the latest clockwork mod file.
So may be try flashing another version of cwm as 6.0.1.0 or 6.0.1.2 or so via odin for example and make sure you are flashing right firmwares for your device specific model number
Make sure you have a proper root via app like root check basic and install supersu from market
Put the firmware in both internal and external sd and try flashing from both, may be one of them will work

The only thing I will add here is that you don't need the .pit file (it also eliminates the chance of accidental re-partition). Just use the .tar.md5 file as the pda and flash. Also, there isn't any chance of boot looping when flashing the file from the samfirmware site. First boot will take up to 10 minutes.

The PIT I wasn't sure if it was needed or not so I always used it just in case and actually I waited patiently and my phone did bootloop.

Not for ICS you don't. In fact, you only need the .pit for flashing CWM.
For rooting GB 2.3.x then you need the pit.

To be honest even that's debatable - I haven't used it the last several times flashing cwm via odin. Ymmv of course
Being honest I just follow the instructions to avoid bricks

Verizon Galaxy S III SCH 1535 rooted with casual. Got root access but any custom recovery will not identify OS or any data. Even flashed back to 4.0.4. stock and and stock recovery will not work. I think partitions are different now or got changed some how. I have flash 4.1.1 stock image and got stock recovery back but Twrp or CMW will not work. First time I ever had this issue.

Yes several times. Used ez unlock 1.2 & 1.4 flashing all versions of twrp and cwm.
Flash stock ROOTED ROM through Odin. Use EzUnlock 1.2 (1.3-1.4 is broken). Use GooManager to flash TWRP. Done! Fool-proof.

Unzipped it and It just broke down all the files. there is no md5 file. There is all the files. They need to be joined together into one to work.

I need to find stock rooted tar.md5 file as suggested above. I never had so much trouble just trying to get recovery to work. This is a new phone from Asurince. The partitions must be different. I'm not sure what the problem is.

File u need is in the 4th post. Follow the guide. You don't need to Reset flash counter if you are just gonna flash a ROM or custom recovery again

Still no recovery. Goomanager can't find recovery. So I flashed twrp and it asks for password like data is incripted. I don't under stand how the stock recovery works fine.

I just don't under stand why this new phone is giving me so much difficulty. I have another GS3 bought back in 2012 and no troubles at all, running Hyperdrive 16 rom works great. I've been trying to get this phone to work for about a week now. I'm not one to give up so easly, but I'm about to turn it in for warrenty. Sorry my spelling sucks. I hate being beat by software. There has to be a way.

Ok good material but a little confusing. So I need to use chome to be able to down load pit file and flash it with oden with reboot, F timer & repartion checked. Than reflash stock rom. Is this correct or I need to do something else?

Looks to be about what the directions stated, I've rarely seen Pit files referenced.
