Getting an s2 skyrocket. - Samsung Infuse 4G

Got an iPhone 4 from work today that's almost new and I'm trading it for a like new skyrocket tonight. I'm still keeping my infuse though.
I'm excited. While I love my infuse that s2 should be fast as hell!
Thoughts? Who owns one?

Why do you want a Skyrocket over the regular SGH-i777? Is it size, or Lte compatibility?
Edit: Correction, why DID you?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium

I have a clue about s2 variants screen size.
S2 i9100 is 4.3"
S2 skyrocket i727 AT&T ?
S2 i777 AT&T ?
Specs says they are 4.3" gsmarena 4.5"

It's 4.5 Super Amoled Plus. Same as the Infuse.
I wanted the Skyrocket for the faster cpu, double the ram and double the storage. Plus LTE is amazing fast. Like wow fast.

All of my toys

nice
I really prefer 4.5" than a little better hardware (i727 against i777)

Is the resolution the same on the skyrocket? To me resolution > screen size but anything less than 4.3 is really get too small. I think the new gs3 with a 4.5 inch screen would have been absolutely perfect!

I like the specs of the Skyrocket, but it seems development is better for the i777. But Ima do some more research. My upgrade's in August, so its gonna be one of the 2.
I don't like the look of the GSIII. That curve annoys me and I can't stand the button layout. I guess I'm just picky, considering the phones capabilities, its an awesome, but I'm gonna pass on it
Keeping my Infuse for testing purposes and may consider loaning it out for devs

IMO, iPhones are for those who want to look like they fit in with "the crowd". Android to me is for THEEE Individual. Customization, personalization, and self expression.
Say a room has 10 people full of a crowd of people ranging from say 15-40, mixed genders. 6 with iPhones, 4 with various Androids. I can almost guarantee that the iPhone users will have the same if not similar looks on their screens. Same messy apps too close together, and generic wallpapers.
The 4 Androids would be catered to reflect the Individuals who own them, even if they are non rooted, expect different home launchers on some and varied wallpapers.
This is just a random scenario n again, just my opinion

You should find the definition of "literally"cause I don't think it means what you think it means. They are very much not the same phone.
Also I would have preordered the sgs3. It's worth the $50 more over the sgs2 skyrocket.

I paid nothing for my skyrocket. I traded that i4 that I got free for it.
I have to wait until April for my full upgrade discount. By then we'll have an SIIII
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2

ah yes. good deal then. the threads are all starting to merge in my sleep deprived mind.
also att's upgrade policy sucks.

Skyrocket HD is the perfect phone imo. But was cancelled before release :crying:
Just the same look as S2 or infuse, but with 1280x720 4.65" screen :victory:
I think i777 share roms with i9100. So, dev is much bigger than on i727.
edit: corrected hd screen size.

the skyrocket hd was a 4.65" screen. sameone thats in the galaxy nexus. its also the galaxy s2 hd in korea.

You are right
The gnexus is a nice phone. But... onscreen buttons make it loss half inch or more. Also knowing the hard burn-in problem that affects amoled screens, that buttons will be printed forever :crying:
Bad choice by google imo.

My infuse sits in a cubbyhole on my desk. I might sell it. I would regret it if I did I think so I haven't.
My skyrocket has been such a great phone so far. I really love it.
The nightly cm9 builds are nice, I even played with cm10 a few hours ago. Amazing things are happening for this phone.
I don't miss my infuse and I recommend that everyone who can upgrade should. Its nice having such power. Dual core 1.8ghz whips that 1.6 single all to hell. The double ram helps too.
Thanks to all the great developers here, I loved your builds.

haha amazing
I used both for a week and ended up keeping the inspire. My issue was mostly blur and the smaller screen size. It was also one of the most plasticky phones I have ever held.
yea I thought atrix was gonna be all that and a bag of potato chips but was a let down whe felt it in hand next to my captivate as it has same size screen everything on screen looked smaller. and way plasticy feel which feels cheap to me, why put that kinda hardware into a phone only to neglect outside not only that they made accessories of better quality then the phone itself.
And very nice on those scores dude. How stable is it running with that setup?

It's actually really stable. Just a huge battery killer, but the Inspire 4G has bad battery life anyways. I think the Android Revolution rom helps out a lot for the battery though, especially when underclocking. For the past couple of hours I've tried out 880mhz and it's ultra smooth and it seems to be getting great battery

i am really happy that i didnt go with the atrix like i initially wanted to. i didnt even bother with looking at it. i didnt want to cheat on HTC. they currently own the market as far as android devices go, and theyre great as far as releasing code goes.
I posted a benchmark of about 2925 on Android Forums in response to someone saying that the Inspire would be irrelevant once the Atrix was updated to take advantage of the dual core processor. The excuses were it was either a fake pic, not an Inspire, or a bad program.

Battery has been soso. With every android phone I've owned (atrix inspire g1 g2 captivate) the battery life was weird the first few days... just give it time... so far I'm about 9hrs in with 33% left. Display turned to 50%, 1.5 hours of screen on time consuming 92% of bbattery. Pretty good for a first day I think

not a chance. some hummingbirds only go to 1300, others 1600, unless samsung was holding out the better units for faster clocked phones i dont think we will get a great deal of overclock out of it. the snapdragons are built on qualcoms own core. though the instructions are both cortex a8 and they are both 45nm arcitecture the snapdragon is much more overclockable as far as i can tell, there is no reason to expect 1.8 ghz. samsung may even be using snapdragons in the sgs2mini and sgs+ to get 1.4ghz reliably
I see it, but that increase also reduces sharpness. I previously rocked a Captivate and now have an Inspire. I went and played with an Infuse the other day and I would consider it noticeably less sharp than the Inspire. Screen size is great, but I'm thinking 4.5 inches is a bit much for 480x800 resolution. If this guy had Gingerbread and/or TouchWiz 4 I would probably go for it, but at this point it seems like more of a sidegrade from any of AT&T's other top Android phones.
Has anyone played with a screen density changer yet?

The Infuse is the first device with a softkeyboard I could consider tolerable... But that's it - tolerable. It still can't come close to my Tilt2.
This makes me giddy like a small child in a candy store. You can keep the keyboard and dual core, I'm fine with my 4.5 inch screen and super thin design. I don't know how many times people have picked up my phone and been wowed by this form factor.
Plus, who needs dual core anyways? There isn't any lag on my infuse to begin with, and now that gb is about to drop, I'm sure whatever the devs come up with will keep me more than satisfied with how well my phone performs.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
WOW!......How can Samsung ATT justify this? SGSII is a widely anticipated phone all over the world. It is very popular over seas. So based on that they change it last minute???? Not the specs but to a slider? This makes ZERO sense. Unless Samsung was forced to change it through lawsuits by apple, or ATT being Apple's b**ch. Why would you change a device that everyone was expecting and anticipating. Unless Samsung has another device ready to launch soon, I do not get it. It would be one thing if it was always going to be a slider, but you just added thickness to a device that nowdays the thinner the more popular. When I first got a soft keyboard device I hated it, but now I am much faster than I ever was on a hard keyboard. You are also adding the breakable parts factor. I just don't understand this at all.
Makes perfect sense... The only keyboard smartphone they have is the LG Quantum... Also differentiates it from the Infuse.

i've never been a fan of flip/slide phones.. with my experience, the more moving parts it has, the more susceptible it is to wear and ultimately breaking.

It all depends on how thick it is. If it is nice and slim, I will give it a shot. I could see using a keyboard some times.
Also I would check T-mobile's version. Aren't T-mobile's newest phones shipping with the ability to work on AT&T's network because of the buyout? I thought I heard that a few times....

Oh man I'm having a really hard time deciding between the 1X and the S3. I bought my Captivate at launch 2 years ago so my contract is just about up. Been doing a ton of reading. Looks like the GS3, if the recent announcement is correct will be based on a exynos 4412 design. Basically a quad A9 version of the S2 and not much practical benefit with the same gpu and all. On the other hand, the 1X will be a dual-core cortex A15-based Krait design which is much more powerful and more efficient. On the other hand, the S3 will have that fancy new samoled display, but I hear the 1X is something to behold and currently the best display on the market. The white X looks stunning as well but if this pick of the S3 is correct....http://www.stuff-review.com/2012-04/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-leaked-shot/ it might just sway me.
If I'm not mistaken DesignGears is buying the One X.

Chances are I'm going for the One X when my contract is up in May. I actually got to play with one in my local AT&T store yesterday because it wasn't busy and the workers had their pre release out playing with it. I hate how large the phones have got, but for a 4.7" 720p display, it fits so well in the hand, and it amazingly fast. The camera shutter is as fast as everyone claims and transitions are nothing for it. It didn't have a SIM card in it and as much as I wanted to keep playing with it I eventually gave it back to them (they was standing pretty heavily over me while I held it, understandably).

Hold on - don't be beta testers
3 bad things going for HTC One S or X - no microSD, no removable battery, no real GPS. T-mobile folks report reception/signal issues with HTC One S. AT&T ones will be based on the same S4 snapdragon. Soooo - let's wait for it to show up in the stores and real world reviews pouring...

That's the international version, in the states you'll get the One XL which is based on the Snapdragon for the LTE
engadget and phonescoop posted reviews
Coast is clear, radio and sound are A-OK.
If only I could get AMOLED HD, microSD, replaceable battery. GS3 coming tomorrow.
In which case we will know who's who in this picture

That is VERY lame indeed. For a minute I was getting excited about the phone but damn..no removable battery and no microSD..what are companies thinking? You need to make it 32GB at least for me to consider it.
Anyways...I am let down by the GS3 as well if it ends up being as last reported...but if Glitch and Six move to it then I will move too
Guess I am keeping good old Captivate for a bit longer

New Phone soon

Want to get a new phone soon but don't know what to get in regards of long term development I've had my infuse since day one and love the way that its not obsolete after 6months any suggestions would be appreciated
Again Im thinking in terms of longevity

LG OG.
Several of us that were using the Infuse are there.
I personally have gone with the Nexus 4 (Optimus G's brother) not only because i love the look of it but also because of all the developing that's going on with it currently. I can't speak about the OG development but what I've been in terms of development for the N4 is incredible.
What made you chose the 4 over the g

Mostly the design. I've had my fun with a brick looking phone (Infuse). You don't really appreciate the curves until you hold it in your hand and get a feel for it. The glass also is curved at the edges like the HTC One and makes swiping feel very nice. The etched back glass looks incredible in the right lighting too. Overall the phone is just simply sexy. The price is absolutely unbeatable and being the first to get updates is really nice too although I'll be going the custom route which this phone as at least 10 different ROMs already.

In leaning towards the galaxy note 2, man to many choices
Deciding factors for me
1: battery
2:external SD
3:speed
4:tweak ability
5:longevity of development

N4 has 3, 4 & 5 and with a different kernel you can increase the battery life pretty well though it will never be easily removable.

I would support the choice of the Nexus 4. Most bang-for-the-buck Android device since ever imo.
If money isn't that much of an issue, I would definitely look to the HTC One for beauty or maybe the SIV since there will almost definitely be a huge following for that phone..
+1 for the GNote....once you use it...you're hooked.
Remember, "Once you go Note...4" is a joke".

Checked out some reviews on the note and all others mentioned and all it did was make me want them all
The HTC one is sexy but the note is the one I've been eye balling since its introduction

I wouldn't suggest it....HTC is terrible with development. They have crap source...and even had a DMCA takedown on the HTC msn8660 official cyanogenmod source. Not to mention you not only have to unlock the bootloader but also s-off the device if you wanna be able to flash roms away from a computer. HTC one x had a big problem with achieving s-off for a couple months too....
HTC one looks good as do most htcs, but if you want dome aosp deving its def not the device to go for IMHO
Btw, long time no talk guys I'm still trying to decide on my next device as I'm due for an upgrade as well...

I'm personally leaning towards the SIV... about the same size as the Infuse, except a 5 inch screen+quad core+2gb ram....

I love my infuse but upgrade time came about two weeks ago and I went for the note2 and its awesome!!!! once you start using it you really appreciate the size of the screen it just makes doing everyday things on the phone easier and more enjoyable. I was also on the fence about waiting for the s4 but I went for the bigger screen and battery

I'm up for upgrade too and was looking at the HTC phones. I like the solid metal feel, but I guess I should reconsider. What would you recommend especially regarding development friendliness? (Samsung? LG? I know the Nexus is great for that) I'm not opposed to waiting for a while. I am extremely content with the active and awesome development work on here.
Is the large size of the Note 2 inconvenient at all? My beloved Infuse already takes up most of my pocket
I'll likely get a nexus4 or an iPhone. I'm tired of waiting for 3rd parties to support devices when the motivation is to make you buy a new one.
My wife has an atrix 4g, and still on stock 2.3. It's buggy to say the least.
I have a nexus 7, and didn't even feel the need to root it until recently. Stock actually works, and doesn't leave you wanting much more.
Sure, our infuses still work. We can flash firmware beyond 2.3, but the lack of official support means that some things are broken and will never be fixed... HDMI, 720p, etc.

Been debating getting the N2 for a while.. Just not sure if I want to get it 5 months into its life. But honestly, compared to the GS4, the only thing really better to me at least is the 1080p display which is more of just a number selling point almost. Been out of contract for like 3 months now and getting ready to pull the trigger...
Blackberry Z10 or Q10.
I was playing with the BB Z10 the other day and it looks like they have a winner on their hands.
