[Q] [Request] App that can block specific applications from internet when not on Wifi

I just got my first android phone recently, and I've gotten pretty hooked on Grooveshark.
Unfortunately I have a very limited data plan, and as such I need to be sure it doesn't keep streaming if I accidentally lose my Wifi connection.
Does anyone know of any program that could maintain a blacklist/whitelist of apps that are allowed internet acces, that's also dependent on the nature of the current data connection?
After further searching I found DroidWall
I don't know of an application that meets your specific criteria, but perhaps you could achieve your goal with 'Tasker' . It's not an free app, so I suggest you ask around on its forum first.
Droidwall does it

Click to collapse
I use Droidwall, and if I forget and install a new app I go through a "Why doesnt this work" then remember droidwall, open up that app, and it does. There's a widget that lets you toggle the wall on/off. also useful for something that doesnt really need to access the internet, like a game. Lookout might also work, but I havent really dug in to everything it does.

[Q] Downloading from the market on a PC

A friend of mine wants to buy a Desire S. He won't have 3G in his subscription for the mobile phone. In other words: the phone could only have an internet-connection by using WiFi.
Unfortunately, he doesn't have a WiFi access point in his house, because his father can not stand the radiation. All the internet-connections in his house are wired, and none of the neighbours have an unsecured WiFi access point.
So, this would mean he can't use the market, because the phone can't be connected to internet at his house. Ofcourse, he could download apps at school or at one of his friend's houses, but this is a bit unpractical.
In other words; I am looking for a certain app on the PC or a website, which can browse through the Market, and download the APKs, so he can install them manually (only the free ones ofcourse).
I already checked AndroLib and Cyrket, but none of them provides a downloadlink, only a QR-code.
Is there any alternative, or is the only way of downloading apps at his house searching APKs manually by using Google?
Thanks in advance.
That's a tough one. You can browse the market from any browser. You just need to go to https://market.android.com/.
However, when you "purchase" an app, it will only send via cellular, not internet.
I wish you luck on this.
Well, you could do that on Nokia phones by accessing the 'ovi' site and using some parameters to make the site "think" you were accessing using a mobile phone. In Android Market I don't think you can do that... But there's a way to get the programs needed: with YOUR help !!!
If you have an Android phone, you can download the apps he needs and then backup them using Titanium Backup or App Backup and Reinstall. The 'apk' files will be saved in a directory and you can send them to your friend by bluetooth, or put then on a usb pen...
But... let me tell you this: the Android phone relies SO MUCH in internet data that not having wifi nor 3g subscription is almost a crime, specially having a Desire S !!!
Thanks for the help guys!
Guess I'll have to help him whenever he wants new apps, but that isn't a big deal.
At least there is another one who switched to Android
just google the file and youll get the app.

How prevent apps to connect with the internet??

Hello!
Does somebody know a way to prevent apps connecting with the internet?
... i mean a fully control, beacuse apps are intelligent - i prevent them to acces the mobile-internet, so they
use my wifi-connection to connect with the net. It is incredible how many data they damn apps send from
my phone to somewhere in the internet - and all in the bakcground, so the user does not recognize it.
I use CyanogenMod 11 M10 i didn't find some options in the CROM to prevent or control the full internet acces!
Otherway: does somebody knows a good (and small) firewall-app (free and no free)?
regards & sorry for my bad english,
Stefan
Your phone should have this option most likely -
Go to settings > data usage > scroll down and click on the app name > scroll down and click on Restrict Background Data
Install avast! Mobile Security and Antivirus. It has the exact function you are requesting, and does a great job at it, too.
Post thank?

[Completed] Best App to bypass network behind proxy (no root)

This is for people who dont want to root their phone just for one reason i.e to bypass the apps through proxy network
then go on, continue reading.
i m not a developer of this app, i just wanted to share this because there are so many search results on internet for NON ROOT USER!!!
yes thats right. i got a new phone, few days back. and thought that i wont root this one.
so i was having a second thought of rooting this new phone, just for one reason... to bypass all my apps
in my phone through proxy.
just when i was reading about how to root Xiaomi. i came across an app
which lets you bypass all the apps in the phone with no requirement of rooting the phone.
Yes you heard it right NO ROOT!!
so the app i downloaded is 'PSIPHON' .... its free and user friendly.
here is the link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.psiphon3
this app is better than sandroproxy or droid or autoproxy (no offence to the developers of this apps). this apps looses the connection when you dont use the application
and then the application like whatsapp or FB messenger wont detect proxy for sometime and its very annoying.
but psiphon app keeps the connection alive regardless of closing the social media apps and starting it after 10-30 min or so.
give it a try and let me know.
press Thanks button.
Hi there,

Recommended apps/ways to help managing elderly people's Android phone remotely, from being scammed?

Hi,
What's your recommended apps/ways to help managing elderly people's Android phones remotely?
It's getting harder and harder for my parents to follow the fast-changing pace in the smart phone world.
Instead of trying to check and teach them through video links, or ask them to manually activate Teamviewer quicksupport every time (black screen on privacy screens),
is there any good apps with good reputation for this purpose?
Mainly I wish it could start up on power on and can wait for connection without manual activate service.
List installed apps and allow me to uninstall unwanted apps, maybe update apps as well.
Able to prevent apps being installed would be great.
Able to add phone numbers to blacklist/whitelist of phone calls / SMS.
Open source one would be preferred. Paid apps are ok.
Best Regards,
Try this

adbLink2 is companion software for Android devices Features: Install Programs without Android SDK ADB/Fastboot enabled command-line Busybox for root and non-root Built-in WIFI/USB remote Manage devices via USB or IP address Root-aware File...
forum.xda-developers.com
Thanks. I might give this a try. Also I found boomerang parental control and Google family link might be useful .
