So here it goes, and I'm not quite sure i'm posting in the right section, but I figured this is where I would get the best response.
Now that that's out of the way...
As I understand it, getting a CRT-Off animation to work on my One S (using the only method I know, flashing in Clockwork Recovery) would require a version tailored for the specific ROM i'm on and the specific model. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I'd like to get this effect without reflashing a whole new ROM (as I know its built into some ROMs.) I'm on a TMO branded USA One S running the new TrickDroid v4.4 It's nice But it would be much, MUCH nicer w. the CRT-Off. Any ideas?
With my tablet back in the HC days. All I had to do was edit one word in the bools.xml.
You'll have to decompile the framework-res, look in res/values for bools.xml
Code:
<bool name="config_animateScreenLights">true</bool>
change the true to false and that enable CRT off.
Now that my tablet is running CM9, this feature does not work (cause reboot).
I have not tried any custom ROM yet on the One S to see if this work or not.
BTW you should post question like this in Q&A section.

Don't bother...its not gonna work. No custom roms here have CRT animation because its not possible without hacked video drivers...
Which is probably more difficult than it sounds, right? And it sounds pretty damn difficult. Oh well. Worth a try. If any come across a method, post here.

Yeah... I know it's something simple. I'm trying to edit the .png files but 7zip won't update what I've done when I'm finished. Plus I'm a hell of a lot more confident in others here than I am myself. I can't just push the phone.apk from that theme, can I? That seems far too simple.

Gumbo 1.5c Bare. I think that'll look really good with the DarkStar theme. I switched back to 1.5 just so I can use that theme. I love it!
Thanks, bro. I really appreciate it.
What would happen if I were to just push the phone.apk? It's just a bunch of .png & 9.png files...
I started to do the same thing awhile back but never quite finished. our dialer buttons were in htccontacts.apk if i remember right
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614830 might help someone.
they are actually in both if you just change contacts then it changes the main dialer but if you go to enter in numbers while in a call then it is still stock to it needs to be both.

not a problem I shouldnt have to tell to you to backup before flashing. let me know how it works.
Works like a charm! Can you explain what you did so I can start to figure this out for myself?
And post a screen shot as well.
Also -- will this work on Sense?
Oh, +1 for "knowing what you did". What files did you edit?
honestly I could have easly gone in PS and made them but there is an even easier was to do it.
1. downloaded the theme
2. unziped the theme file
3. unziped Phone.apk from theme
4. went into drawable folder.
5. used winrar to open (not unzip) stock Phone.apk and navigated to drawable folder.
6. selected dialer buttons in themes drawable folder
7. draged buttons into stock Phone.apk
repeat with HtcContacts.apk
ziped it all up signed it.
good to go.

It's fine -- I'm just trying to create a custom theme and sometimes don't know which files to actually edit, that's all. You are correct.
I've been reading up on modifying the StatusBarIcon.smali file, however aside from all the information on changing the clock color, I have only found examples of already modified smali files to remove the clock but without detail of what was changed/why.
Initial comparison, I've found all references of 'clock' to be removed.
I have PM'd JsChiSurf for information.

Shouldn't the themes for the International One X work for us as well? Especially since there's a new way of theming that just replaces the graphical stuff and not the actual apk. They say it should work on most devices with same sense versions. We have the same sense version, same resolution same buttons etc. I've tried a few but the developers have a model check and they abort. The one that i found over there that did not do a model check worked fine. Could someone with experience with themes chime in please? thanks!
EDIT. I'm only talking about themes With the villain theming system. It does not replace the apks, only mods them.

As a user, you don't need to know much - just flash this zip like a regular zip, and you'll get your theme running. But you should be able to apply themes to any device, ROM, and version of the ROM, without it causing adverse effects. That means less time spent by themers making the original theme, and less time spent modifying it constantly for new versions of ROMs.
Features..
Will modify APKs in a ROM, without changing signatures, and can be used on any ROM where the filenames of themed files is the same.
Should not need updated between versions of a ROM
Zipaligns all APKs before installation
Stores a backup of all files being modified in /cache/vrtheme-backup/
Requires no coding abilities or editing of files - just drag and drop
Can copy "raw" files, though at risk of not working on other devices

What "new theming method" are you talking about?
The only type of themeing I've seen is replacing system files, like SystemUI.apk and stuff.
It that's the case, then no it won't work.

I changed text to red that i thought pertained to this subject
I installed this theme without issues. Was made using villain theme system for the International one X
Quote from changelog of this theme
UPDATE 21 May: After a lot of tweaking and tinkering, have managed to make the theme work with the VillainTheme system. This means that it should now work with any ROM, and shouldn't affect any of the ROM dev's individual tweaks.
The theme modifies the following system apks:
framework-res.apk
SystemUI.apk
com.htc.resources.apk
fusion.apk

Sense 4 is sense 4 as far as I know. I'm sure you can remove the model check form the update script. link one you'd like to install and I'll check it out
That's definitely not a good idea. Most Sense themes contain the SystemUI.apk, framework-res.apk and com.htc.resources.apk. So if the rom your using on your AT&T One X has any mods done to any of those apk's you will loose them and if the rom that the theme was built for has any mods done to those apk's you will more than likely have issues. If there is a specific theme you like, get me the link and I will try to port it over.

For those of you who are using cm10 builds and are tired of seeing Verizon Wireless on your lockscreen and notification pulldown this will allow you to remove or change it to something else. I take no credit for this all credit goes to spunks3 for making the post over in the nexus forums, I just tried his method and it happened to work on our phone, also belair56 for the original find as well as dakota0206 for his post on the thread giving the correct eri.xml.
PLEASE NOTE: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR PHONE, MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY MODS SUCH AS THIS!
1) Download eri.xml onto your desktop or some folder you will remember where it has been placed.
2) Open "eri.xml" with something such as NotePad or WordPad and edit everywhere you see "Whatever you want or delete this and nothing will show up". You can simply change the text or delete the text between the quotations and nothing will show up.
3) Save "eri.xml" and copy it to the root of your SD Card.
4) Open Root Explorer or an app similar, copy "eri.xml" from your SD card to "/data" directory. Please make sure you are not placing it in /sdcard/data
5) Also make sure that eri.xml has the same permissions as in the thumbnail below.
6) Reboot, and Enjoy!

Hello!
I am not new to these forums.. I am a frequent reader, but I am not much of a poster.
I have a request that I think will benefit alot of galaxy tab 10.1 users running the stock roms.
Would anyone be able to /interested in modding the android.policy.jar file PhoneWindowManager.smali file to enable longpress back to kill foreground app? like the function we get in CM and AOKP roms? There is no need to have a setting for it in system settings. Just an android.policy.jar we could flash if we want the function enabled..
I have found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1969499 discussing and explaining how to do this.
I have tried to do this myself, but either it just won't work or I end up in a bootloop. I am new to editing .smali files and understanding their buildup.. So I am asking here to see if anyone is willing to take a look and help me out.
My guess is that I am not the only one who wants this in the stock rom, and I hope that someone is willing to do this to the benefit of not only me but everyone else running the stock ICS and JB roms missing this function.
I am running the "something" JB stock rom by smaw51 with the extended power menu. I will add a link to my android.policy.jar if anyone wants to take a look at it.. If not edit it, maybe explain what strings to change in the .smali file in order to get it working. I know we will probably need a custom .smali with the kill function aswell if the one in this thread won't work...
Download android.policy.jar
Kind regards
Michael

I finally got this working after numerous edits and tests, and with lots of help from Mirko ddd, tdunham and lyapota.
Does anyone want me to post a tutorial on how to do this?
Will require some modification to the android.policy.jar file.
Might require decompiling and getting a string from framework-res.apk values/public.xml
(Optional) in order to get a toast message saying "Application Killed." we will need to edit some strings in framework-res.apk values/strings.xml and recompiling framework-res.apk using APKTool or Virtuous Ten Studio. If we don't change this we still do get a toast, but it will then say "force app to close", wich (in my opinion) didn't look very stock.
Also, I have only tested this on JB, but it might be very similar for ICS.
Would really appreciate this function!
