[Q] How do I find and edit a live wallpaper .apk? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've located the ASUS MyWater live wallpaper and I want to edit it to look like bourbon instead of water. Can any of you offer advice on opening the .apk and making the necessary changes?
Or, if you're interested, feel free to do it and post it if you think you can do a better job. I'm good with directions but I'm still just a novice.
Thanks in advance

Live wallpaper apk generator

I wonder if it is possible to make a program that would generate a live wallpaper apk? all you have to do is supply the animation of your choice and it will generate the apk to install. I know there is live wallpapers in the market; however to make your own to your liking is extremely hard from what I researched. just an idea.
I would love that!
I think after viewing the document for how to make a live wallpaper its kind of very hard..
I wish they would translate it so that most people could at least attempt to make one.
This idea is very nice..to bad the thread died...
What kind of animation would you supply?
Could somebody supply the source code of a live wallpaper so i could have a go at it with eclipse? (Not the one with sdk)
Thanks

Changing Launcher2 wallpaper gallery...

How do I properly change the wallpaper gallery? I have been pulling the Launcher2.apk apart and replacing the images with properly sized replacement images. However, I have to keep them named the same as the images they replace and I can not add or subtract the images. Can somebody point me in the right direction to adding and subtracting the wallpaper images and naming them as I please? I assume they are xml edits, which I have no idea how to do. The more help the better. Once I feel like I have a good product I will post the results here to share with everybody.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I'm stupid and didn't read your post right. Disregard.
Search out "Advanced Launcher" in the G1 development thread. Irrenhaus somehow devised a way to add wallpapers uniquely named to a .txt file in /assets. How he did it it, I don't know. I'll attach the most recent copy I have. Hope this helps.
DON'T GO PUTTING THIS ON YOUR N1, PEOPLE...FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES ONLY!!
BRB.
Doing research.
** EDIT **
I think I found it. Going to give it a try. Will report back with results. This is the one I think it is.

Ugh... Still looks like xml edits if I am reading everything correctly. I am not sure I want to get on that right now. I guess I have to do some more research...

Themes

Does anyone have a list of all the locations of image files for editing your own theme? I want to jump into the theming world.
Something just to get started.

Click to collapse
not that i know of. Your gonna have to go through all the files and figure out what files go where. Sorry I know it sucks but at the same time its part of the learning process.
ya. download a theme and start seeing what icons and stuff they changed. That's the best way to get acquainted. Good luck! It's fun and addicting. Feel free to hit up cbarlan or myself if you have questions. We'd be more than happy to help! God bless!
Thanks guys. I'll download some themes and see what I find.
What software do you guys use? Gimp, paint.net? Photoshop?
Thanks again. Also will try to compile a basic list as I go to help others.

One piece of advice as you get into this...
Take note of the approximate filesize of whatever you are changing and try to save it in png-8 or png-24 with as few colors as possible.
I have made some taskbar icons and after the first couple sets it was weeks later that I realized the originals were less than 400bytes and the ones I made were like 1.5 to 2.5 KB!!! May not sound like much but it adds up.
PhotoShop's color replacement tool will save you hours!
Most of the stuff u r going to change will be in com.HTC.resources.all and also framework:-res .apk. not all of them but a lot. They will be in the "drawable" folders that are in the res folder. Hope that helps u start.

[REQ] Modified OverclockWidget

Well after trying without success, I was wondering if anyone here could modify the overclock widget? It is seriously one UGLY motherf**ker. I tried replacing the icon.png but because its a widget it does some weird resizing if ya dont use a 64x64 png. And that is just too blurry and junky looking to have on my homescreen. Was wondering if someone could tear into this thing and rebuild it with something crisp, clear and colorful. Much obliged.
Modifying and distributing a file requires permission from the original creator. If someone just hauled off and started distributing a modified version of the .apk it would be illegal...even though it is a free file...lolol

ahhh.. yeah, i guess that would make sense. Well, if anyone could give me some pointers on how to modify how the apk resizes the widget, that would be helpful. Or point me in the right direction. Then I could just modify my version for my own personal use, as I was trying to before. Thanks

[Wallpaper Drop] Drop off your wallpapers here!

So... Let's see what all we can share with each other.. I LOVE collecting and sharing wallpapers. So, I figured, maybe you all would like to share some of yours as well.
I'll kick it off with this one that I just finished in Photoshop. It's about 37 layers or so, and I have the PSD file if anyone wants to personalize it a bit. This is a 3 screen setup here. (1440x800)
Feel free to use this in your ROM, but please give credit, where credit is due.
**I'll be making this into a boot-splash also once I receive my phone.
UPDATE: If we can get enough wallpapers in this thread... For every 50 wallpapers, I'll post them to my Picasa gallery, and supply download links for Wallpaper Packs. :-D
Here is mine. Hope you like it.
Very nice! Kaley = Hot
Apparently I'm gonna have to re-upload the wallpaper. :-/ It resized it smaller. Ugh
One of the ones I flip around to
Sent from me using this thing.
