you can use es file explorer. just make sure file sharing is set upp on the computer so that you an access it from the network, then connect to the same network and put the ip address of your computer in.

I have used WiFi File Explorer from Play store with decent success. Free version restricts number of simultaneous up/downloads. I still prefer to hook up phone, much faster speeds and bonus of charging at same time.

You can use Zumocast if you have XP or Motocast if you have Windows 7. Keep your computer running and that will give you access to your files from anywhere. Stream or download. For upload/downloading over wifi, you can use Motorola Phone Portal (uses Internet Explorer in Windows for file management). Zumocast and Motorola Phone Portal come pre-installed on the Atrix 2. Motocast is new. It's very much like Zumocast, Win 7 or Vista only. Hope that helps!

this is probably the easiest way.
You could possibly set up samba on the phone and then connect from the pc-> phone, but that's a lot more difficult.

SwiFTP – Transfer & Manage Android Files Wirelessly

Hey guys, today's demo is of SwiFTP. Here's the description from my site
Tired of connecting your phone to your computer every time you need to transfer something. Looking to do some on-the-fly file management? Wanna be cool? Download SwiFTP. This handy little app will make your Android phone function as its own server, allowing YOU to connect and transfer files wirelessly (without USB, if you’re confused) to your Android phone or just manage your Android system. You have access to everything, too. Right down into the nitty gritty of the system. Did I mention its free? I don’t think you have a choice but to NOT download it.
SwiFTP Video App Demo/Review
O thats awesome. Now I just need some sort of window I can leave on my 2nd monitor and just drag files to it, and have it automatically connect and throw it into a folder. HMMmMmm. Any devs have ability to code something like that?
I'm definitely going to test this out. Great find and recommendation!

Well if you setup your computer as a server, you can use ES File Explorer or AndFTP to connect to your computer
Nice work!

Has anyone tried to set up SwiFTP and connected to it using AndFTP from another phone with success? Me and a friend of mine have been trying it but keep getting an 530 invalid credentials error on AndFTP
I dont use SwiFTP but, download FTPServer in the market and put FileZilla on your computer. Couldn't be easier.
I've always installed an ssh server on all my devices, iphone, ipad and androids. I just activate the server and then use Winscp or I just mount it in Linux.
My friends and myself with Evos use the bluetooth transfer with laptops and between evos. It is not as fast but works pretty well.
I've always just used dropbox for android
What's the range?

[Q] Easy way to send files to Phone

Hi guys i was thinking how useful Chrome to Phone is and the ease that it has brought me, and i was wondering if there is a similar app that will allow me to send files from my pc to my phone (and maybe vice versa but am not too bothered about that).
Rather than using bluetooth, maybe an app that you could just right click on the file and give an option to send to a phone over the internet.
Does anyone know of an app like that?
Thanks in advance
Dropbox
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
yeah i have dropbox, but you cant right click on the file and send it to phone, you have to copy the file into the dropbox folder and then go onto the dropbox app on your phone then navigate to it and then download it.
Thanks, but i am looking for something that will immediately download it straight to my phone, just like chrome to phone does with websites
DROPBOX
I think dropbox is the best you're going to get...the only this that is quicker than dropbox is adb one the computer but that defeats the whole not having to plug in anything.
There is also adbwireless (though not as user-friendly since you have to use the command line---there may be a script or something you can do to add the command to your right-click menu though). You can also run an FTP server on your phone using something like SwiFTP. Then just map your phone as a drive on your computer. Then it's just simple drag-and-drop.
well maybe if there arent any option it could be a great idea for a developer, i not being one, have no idea how to do that, but i think it could be a great app.
SugarSync lets you set up a folder that will automatically sync to your phone. It can be any directory you choose. Not quite as simple as chrome to phone but works similar to dropbox with 5GB free.
I use windows 7's built in bluetooth software to connect to an app called bluetooth file transfer on my phone. Of course, you need bluetooth hardware on you computer to do this.

You could give WIFI Explorer a try. Connect your phone through WiFi and navigate to it's IP in your internet browser. You can upload/delete/copy/move files. Only disadvantage is that it's only for external storage access...

Samba File Sharing. Never used it myself, but heard good things.
There's also FileExpert. It can start a file server, that you browse to on your computer, then upload through an HTML form. (When started, it pops up the URL to use)
I usually use AndFTP, which requires me to have an ftp server running on my computer. All the browsing is then done from the phone.
Alternatively, SwiFTP is an ftp server for the phone - then you can run the client on your computer and browse from there.
SwiFTP gets a big +1 from me: Two minutes set-up, and then whenever the App/WiFi is open, your phone is accessible as a shared drive: I'm using this for everything but 500mb+ video transfers. I can just drag and drop e-books/APKs/etc from folder to folder and they're instantly on my phone.
On a related topic: CIFSmanager is a great App to browse your PC files from your phone, and then copy/paste any over. I use both daily

+1 on this app also. It's not perfect by any means but there have been dozens of times I have just forgotten my usb cable or simply needed quick access to push or pull something off my SD. It's really a pretty decent app and it does get the job done quickly. It has a free and pro so you could always check out the free and see if its like what you want.

This works great in the way is as simple as write the 4 numbers code and drop the file to the PC browser, but it's slower as it uses the upload speed (uploads the file to somewhere), so for large files is slow. Wifi Explorer is much faster because uses the speed of the router (which is different from the ADSL speed). FTP is also very faster.

{REQ} File transfer via WiFi Android to Android

HI Guys .
I am looking for an app for android that can transfer files between android phones using WiFi.
As at work we some times need to transfer large files between phones. Bluetooth is too slow and it is a pain connecting the phone to a PC uploading the file then downloading the file to new phone.
Any ideas on this would be great. As this would save masses of amounts of time. Also it would need to be a direct transfer between phones as we have no router to connect to at work.
Thanks in advance
Jonathan
File expert has the option to share a file via wifi when you long press on a file. I can't test this phone to phone as I only have one Android handset here at the moment. Give it a try.

you can use "Wi-fi Cast Lite" from lgworld or Try "IP Messenger" from Android Market.
or maybe use dropbox ?
This is the way i do it ...
Use wiFi File Transfer from the Market.

Well, I think the simple is better. So why don't use FTP? As its name says is a File Transfer Protocol
I do use FTPServer, then if you're in Windows, you can use "Filezilla" as client. Maybe, you could thinks is much _effort_. But it's worth it.
Regards~
So far, the best and easiest app existing is fast file transfer -

Media management apps for android. Are they backwards?

Hi Everyone,
I am just wanting to open up this idea for debate and see how many people like the way they are forced to manage their music and movies etc at the moment. (being manage from the computer and select what songs/playlists etc you push to your mobile device instead of pick what you pull to it using your mobile device.
Do you like sitting at your computer to pull stuff to your phone/table or would you like to be able to do it from your phone/tablet using your Wifi?

I have a wireless hard drive connected to my router, my media is available instantly on my phone as both server and phone are dlna compliant so I don't have that problem but before I had the hard drive I had no problem connecting any android device wirelessly to my laptop and sharing files.
If your android device and a computer are both wireless and on same wifi network you shouldn't need to sit on your computer to retreive files as long as its a windows pc and is on you can use es file explorer on android market to browse pc and copy or play its shareable files.

That what I was thinking too. I was thinking it would be great to have an app where if your in Wifi range of your computer it shows all media files available and can stream them you can copy/sync them to your device while on the same Wifi. Then when your out of range of the Wifi only the stuff that you have synced shows locally on your device.
That way you won't even have to go the computer to pick up anything. No interface installed on your computer for this specific syncing and it could even pick up from Windows media center or itunes. But I don't know if it's possible. would be nice though.
(I am shamelessly trying to get devs to read my idea as I am not sure who to approach for this as it would be a big task if possible)

I'm not sure if anyone read that you can do this already but here's how. You need to install es file explorer and then to access your files from pc on android...
1. In es file explorer go to the lan tab and click its search button. Your pc will show up
2. Click on your pcs ip address to see everything on it and transfer files from or to it. If you protect pc with password you need your windows user name and password.
It's that easy

File sharing with PC thru wifi?

Simple question: since I have my wifi coming from my PC, can I somehow file share from phone to PC? Linda manager has a Network option, so I think this is possible.
Thanks.

Use Software data cable on the android market......it does just want u want to do....
I see samba and that's well and good to go from PC to phone, but I was interested in pulling up PC network from my phone. I haven't seen that option with any of these programs.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I haven't tried it, but ES file explorer has a network option as well. You'd likely have to know how to set up your computer so that it can "talk" to other computers, in this case your phone, on the network. It's not hard, and I think you could use windows network setup wizard to get you rolling. I'm a little rusty in that area unfortunately, of you don't use it you loose it.

Is that phone to PC? NOT PC to phone
My bottom line is that I want the option to access my computer from my phone.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
So what exactly are you looking to access on your PC? If you want to access storage then there is sure to be an app that does that, which is what I would think ES can do, it looks like you have multiple settings for type, even looks like maybe an ad-hoc mode as well. Otherwise, if you're looking to control the PC, I think Team Viewer can do it, I never got around to setting it up PC to PC though but I would think it would work with the app.
I'm using a small FTP server on the phone. It's called SwiFTP. Does an amazing job.
I don't really have a specific purpose, I just want to know if the functionality exists. There has been times I download torrents with my phone, then I have to go plug in and transfer. I'd rather transfer wireless since I'm already using wifi from the PC.
Yea, I'm being lazy, but still.

have you tried teamview? it is basically a remote desktop connection on your phone.
But will that allow him to transfer files to his phone via the app?

Also AirDroid in the Market will transfer via WiFi from phone to PC and PC to phone using your web browser on your PC.
I have File Expert, works great with PC to phone via FTP. But the program has to function to go from phone to PC.
Sure, sitting on my computer I can swap files back and forth. But on the phone all I can do with the program is turn on the file sharing, can't actually do the swapping from phone.
