Barebones+camera mod(SOLVED) - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Anyone using dsextons camera mod with barebones ROM? I cant get it to work and I'm wondering if its just me? I hate my phone telling me I cant use a function based on my battery level. I think I used it before on this ROM.

I think it isn't flashing because the ROM is odexed. Delete the camera.apk and camera.odex from system/app and push the camera.apk. And do the same for media_profiles.xml in system/etc. Just tested and it is working.

Perfect, thanks! Though I feel like I should of been able to figure that out myself now.

Default messaging app

Anyone know where I can get this? I was running cde aosp and I'm going to switch to the latest cog for a bit... I like the default android messaging app...if anyone knows where to get it and how to install it that would be great

You can replace the one in the Cognition Zip with one from the ASOP ROM before installing.
I attached the one from the ASOP_froyo_cm6 ROM.
If you've already installed cognition, just delete /system/app/Mms.apk then place the aosp Mms.apk in /system/app/ and reboot. I was successful using those steps.

Whoops! I need stock mms.apk

Hello,
I was trying to replace the touchwiz mms application with an AOSP mms. Something went wrong and of course I forgot to back up my original mms.apk. I have tried to install AOSP mms.apk's off the forum but I can not get any of them to work. I am putting them in the correct directory and the permission are rw-r-r but still whenever I click the messaging icon the phone just vibrates once and then force closes. Could someone please post preferably the AOSP mms.apk that will work on the GS4G or if not that one just the stock mms.apk that came with the GS4G. Also, any tips on how to get it to work would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks as always!
What firmware version are you running? And are you running the Odexed or DeOdexed version?
Here's stock samsung KC1 deodexed version if thats what you need.
I am running stock, rooted kd1. I should just be able to drop the.apk in the app directory, right?

I just dropped this one in and it works, thanks a ton! Now that I have mms back, does anyone know of an AOSP mms.apk that works with this build?

[Q] MIUI 2.1.6 Camera

Camcorder records at 15 FPS. Anyone know a fix for this? I've tried copying the .so files into the lib folder, but those just locked up my phone when trying to use the camera.
I also tried replaceing the MIUI camera apk with one from other ROMS, but it would not work.
Any ideas?
Try this...and yes...it works

[Q] Building custom ROM could use a couple pointers...

Like the title says I'm working on building a ROM of my own. I am new to this but am not stupid. I've looked around the forums and have bookmarked quite a few threads that will help me. My question is, how would I go about putting a custom CWM flashing screen in? Like on Eman..and ZTR where it says Collective, and flashing modem, etc. etc. And if anyone can point me to a better "ROMS for dummies thread that would be great Thanks for any help
Edit: Scratch that question, just found it lol. But any pointers will still be appreciated
So you are set?

Are you on linux? If you are, then i sugest installing android utility, its probably the simplest way of getting everything installed and organize it all together. It installs dsixda rom kitchen, apktool, simpla adb interface-im out of town at the moment but when i get back (friday night) i can upload some pics of the android utility

^ Alright man thanks. I'll have to install a linux partition on my HDD but that's easy enough. I do have one question that's confusing me...How do I add things to my rom? For example the camera mod where you can take pics with the power button? I have the apk but when I replace it at system/app it Fc's. Do I need to put the other files that come with it in my rom? Same problem with EPM. I have the settings apk but it doesn't work..

For camera I believe you will also need to pull the camera firmware apk too-so you need to put the modded camera.apk and camera firmware.apk in your from (both can be obtained from any of bigfaus roms
For epm you need more than just the settings apk, you also need to replace the frameworks that come with epm (policy.jar, framework-res.apk, and framework-res.jar) I believe that's all you need
As always, if you choose to upload your rom for others be sure to give credit-bigfau for camera, and I'm assuming you got epm from dman so dman for epm

Also for battery mods (and other stuff too) a great place to go is a website called UOT kitchen-just choose your battery mod then upload your frameworks and it will place the modded battery in there for you, then replace your old frameworks with the new ones from uot kitchen
*do this after you have epm set up and running...unless you plan on doing it manually using dmans how to guide*

[Q] I want my apps back!

I recently flashed CM10 on my samsung galaxy s3 I've lost s-memo and other stock applications in I would like to know how I can get them back with the apks i have
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Have you tried to install the apks? If so what happens?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
You can try pushing them to system/apps but I dont think they will run. If you want the stock apps stick with a stock ROM.
As i understand it...Stock apps are usually Odexed. Custom ROMs are De-odexed. Difference? Odex is the part loaded to the dalvik cache to help make the phone boot quicker. So the phone maker separates the APK into two files. The apk and odex. You cannot just run the file with the APK alone...you NEED the odex. A custom ROM would de-odex the files and they are combined into one. It WILL NOT run odex files. I have tried on a few ROMs on the bionic to get it to run stock apps in a custom rom if i included the odex. Still wouldn't work. If you can find someone to compile the APK and ODEX for you it may work.

Edit: plus many apps on this device like the weather clock are tied to touch wiz. You cannot use them outside of it. Even on another launcher with the stock ROM (nova [my fave], apex, go, etc)
If you want stock bloated apps use a touchwiz rom.
Good luck
