Movie format - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
What format are your movies in, when you watch them?
I'm currently using the MX Player and I also have the Dice Player installed, but wondering what format you all use out there.
thanks,
jegonzo3

I prefer using MX Player with movies in the mp4 format converted in handbrake using stringent settings for a nice compressed high quality convert. :good:

i'm using mx player watching .avi and .mkv files directly from tpb without converting them.

i use mxplayer aswell and it plays everything i throw at it , which is normally .avi and .mkv

MX Player is great for AVI and MKV but a VLC release should be right around the corner. If it functions like the Windows version that will be what I use.

Would you mind sharing your settings? I don't usually have very good luck with Handbrake.

ha ha, I asked him the same in a PM. I believe he's out of town right now, but he'll probably post them later. I tried it out last night, but really haven't viewed it yet.
Thanks guys for all the posts.

I love handbrake, especially the ability to cue multiple files. I use just the android high settings, but I don't really have any HD stuff, just DVD copies that I made from my kids DVDs.

I started with mx but it sucks that tegra 3 can't decode Dolby digital or ac3. I had a problem with some shows that had dd5.1 sound. Even in software they came out scrambled. For whatever reason dice player didn't have that problem.

.mkv videos on Asus Transformer?

Has anyone found a reliable method to play these video files on the transformer? It would often skip frames when I first bought the transformer months ago. I'm not sure if anyone has found a solution since then. I'm running primarily 720p videos. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I use DVD catalyst to convert all my video files. Dice player plays about half my 720 mkv files. but it's easy enough to convert using DVD catalyst and the finish file is about 1.5 gigs vs 5 gigs.

Dice player has been the best option for me. It made my TF complete for most of my multimedia vices.
THIS HAS BEEN COVERED BEFORE in Multiple postings.
Please use the Search in this forum as well as using google.

Nothing wrong but i guess your mkv have DTS audio and the internal player doesn't support it (please correct me if i'm wrong) but you can use BSplayer or Dice player as they use soft decoding for those formats.

Dice needs an additional library file. I've included this solution in my apps thread a while ago, btw.
MX Player works for me if I use the S/W Decoder. I had the same problem when it was set on H/W. Now, it pays everything I've thrown at it. Too bad VLC doesn't have their act together in the Android field.
BS player works great even with HDMI

S/W decoding is slow and bad for the battery life, AFAIK, so no reason to be stubborn with one player ;>
Hey there..
There's no working dts with any Player. I read that the problem starts with the JB-Update.
Have you found a solution?
I just want to watch Movies from GooglePlayer in HD and 5.1

There was a Tegra3 S/W decoding bug in MXplayer. It's been fixed now. That could've been the cause.

HD Movie player recommendations?

I had VPlayer, but when I was watching a movie with 720 p or higher, the video seemed choppy not to mention some buffering going on even with the maximum buffering. Does anyone have any recommendations for a phenomenal movie player for this device? I am also concerned that the audio might lag the video by just enough that its noticeable. I don't mind forking over a few bucks as long as the app works as promised.
Try BSPlayer or Dice Player (with additional library for decoding DTS audio, see my apps thread).
Does mxplayer not work?
I loved MX Player on my TF101, but on the TF700, it wasn't to use software to decode the movies, while Dice and BSPlayer use full hardware decoding.
If MX Player supported hardware decoding on the TF700, it would be my go to player like it was on my TF101... But, it doesn't (at least not yet).
I too would recommend BS Player.

Haven't tried yet, because DICE works really well for me.
BS Player. Just get it.

from the recommendation of all the guys here i bought bsplayer. i haven't used any other media player since. ok, it's only been four days, but still...
I use DICE player and it has been able to play everything that I throw at it, definitely recommended !

Well thank you for the responses! I will give BS player and dice player a look and see how they compare. I wish the VPlayer would work since I already paid for it a while back but thats life I guess.
BS Player will play 1080p MKVs over wifi.
we should just creat a sticky saying that BS Player is the only player you will ever need for this device.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Xparent Red Tapatalk 2
There is the sticky thread on apps, but nobody likes to read when coming to the "xda-userfriendly-helpline forum", typing one question and getting others to work is so much easier
BS Player for sure. This player will play any bullsh*t you throw at it. hence the BS in the name. Okay I made that up, but it's true.
It's always good to have options, I have Dice and BS Player installed. Dice even has a nice smb function to play streamed movies over shared folders!

BS has that as well.
I personally think that Dice performs better and more "professional" looking than BS Player...

Thats why i installed BS, MX and Vplayer, its free anyway !
BS is by far the one i use most because it plays all my 720p mkv movies with subtitles smoothly, with other players had some issues.
kind regards,
Can confirm that BS player can play 1080p MKV's that makes MX player stutter and freeze. Kind of expensive for the paid version, though. And less intuitive touch controls...

Confirmed. Just switch to H/W decoding in the settings. Dice should work too.
And you can just test BSPlayer Free, if you're unsure, without paying for it (with AdAway, if ads bother you). Then support the developer, if it suits your needs.

Just a heads up, this has nothing to do with development whatsoever. Questions are supposed to go in the Q&A section.
Not sure what your problem is...
I'm able to play 1080p movies from my network server:
- either using Es File Explorer to go to the share containing that movie and opening it with MX Player Pro
- or by using MyNet and connecting to the (Free) Serviio media server that is running on my server
Using the second method I'm able to switch the display to my 55 inch Samsung tv without any problems....

Is this happening for all your 1080p mkv movies?
Is 720p mkv working correctly? Then it could be that your wifi router is not able to cope with the data that needs to be streamed.
In MX Player Pro I have enabled every Hardware Decoding option, also for network based files so my 1080p mkv is being hardware decoded, not software wise...
Also check on the Playstore for the codec pack for MX Player...

There is a known issue with certain mkv file types and audio. Have a search on XDA.

best free video app

Hi'
I've looked around and cannot get any real consensus on what is the best video playing App for the TF700. I don't want to have to convert my videos from Avi/Mkv etc just to play them.
So does anyone have a favorite movie app?
Dave
DicePlayer.
Free, plays literally everything, has a 400% volume boost.
