Ok guys,
I bought my Sensation (Normal) 3 months ago. After 5 days I started using an1730mAh battery (Evo3D/Sensation XE, original from HTC).
Since that date my Sensation is getting extremely hot. After 10 minutes web-browsing, or 20 minutes playing any (!) game, you can't touch the phone at the screen. I would say it's about 60°C hot, different battery widgets show constantly 11,5°C.
The last days, I noticed something weird:
After closing a game (15 minutes playing), the temperature won't settle down, and... my battery drains from 85% to 34%. This happens in maybe in 2 minutes. After that, the battery drains to 4% in 10 minutes, then the phone shuts down.
I noticed this problem with any Sense 4.0 Rom, doesn't matter which Kernel or frequency.
With ARHD, I have only the insanely overheat problem.
With the normal battery, the same thing happens.
I calibrated the battery, full charging cycles, nothing helped.
I don't know what to do, would be great if someone could help me. Please ask me if I forgot some details.
(And sorry for my bad English )

From my previous experience, I will advice you to stay away from arhd rom cos it caused my phone to heat up too. Try any other Rom with Sebastian' s kernel. Should fix your heating issue.

Well, I can think of 2 options
1. Switch to another Sense 3.6/AOSP/etc ROM - InsertCoin is stable and in 3 months of using I havent had any issues with overheating, Virtuous Inquisition is not bad at all and the list goes on, I just wrote my personal favorites
2. Warranty - bring it to your seller and complain
Im not an expert, but hope it helped

Hi
From time to time I've had a weird battery drain issue. I usually charge the phone during the night so it's guaranteed to be at 100% in the morning. Some times tho the phone drains the battery in like 2-4 hours while it should be completely idle. Normally the battery can last up to two days without charging.
Today I managed to check the proccess list when this happened and from what I could see I had like 30 something logcat running. After killing those the battery lost like 1% in 1-2 hours so it seems like the logcats where the power thief's.
Any one else seen something like that?
I'm on stock rom but rooted.

Hello!
I have the MAGLDR 3.7.0 (stable) installed. I installed about 4 months or so ago, which you helped me with.
I haven't used it much at all, only for calling and sms-typing so to say. Well, it works pretty well for that. Unfortunately, I experience alot of problems.
1. I accidently put away the menu (3 buttons) away, and had to turn off and on, so I just rebooted and it got stuck. In the boot-menu, I got "Fatal fail" in red. This was when I had been surfing through the internet for only 30 minutes or so. The phone get's very hot (beneath the battery) and starts freezing and yeah.
Also, I downloaded a game, after 20 minutes it got heated a little bit and froze. Took out battery, power on and it says GO GO GO, but it is stuck. You'll have to wait probably 10-15 min so the phone cools down, for then give it a try and you can get it on. Little freaky, to be honest - at least first time when it happend!
Also when I went into internet, it froze.
What can be the problem? I mean, it works just fine for calls and sms-typing, but for internet and apps and so on, I experience so much trouble it's annoying.
Can you please help me? Have you experienced these problems? Thanks ALOT for all inputs and suggestions you can give me!
---
Also, now after I surfed a little (10 min) plus started Angry Birds after 5 min, it freezed.
Now after pulling in and out battery several times, I can't get it on. I waited 5 min, got it on, but got stuck at the main menu after inserting SIM-code.
What should I do? Really frustrating and annoying!! PLEASE HELP!!!!
I don't really know why this is happening. Also, when I installed, I was supposed to install clockwork recovery 150 mb with 5 mbCACHE, but accidentely installed only without cache since the guy helping me out gave me that link.
Anything will help guys. Hope this thread gets some recognition, and gets a hot topic with many inputs. Thanks yet again!!
The HD2 was quite notorious for overheating. It sounds like your handset has developed this quirk over time, too.
There are several projects around to improve the heat-dissipating efficiency of your HD2. They all require disassembly, though.
Sorry to hear of your troubles
maybe download an app to underclock it to alleviate some of the problems.

That's a great idea, too!
As far as the 3 buttons dissapearing,if you swipe down from just above them they hide,if you swipe up they come back.you can change the behavior of it in settings.

So guys, I changed my mainmenu layout (the NEXUS one, with stripes flashing all over the screen), and it works alot better. The ram, everything really.
Browsed 10 min, and it didn't get heated almost at all.
Could really the desktop really be the problem??
Strange!

Absolutely. If you're running a live wallpaper all the time, that's working your GPU constantly. Terrible for battery life, too ;-)

Thank you!!!
But I changed my live wallpaper, from you know the NEXUS flashing one? Stripes flashing from side to side, till a random CyanogenMOD-picture wallpaper.
When I did this manuvear, the phone and the CPU didn't overheat, nor did it freeze, it worked really well.
Unfortunately, I experience extreme battery drain.
Normally with standby through the night, perhaps maximum 5-10% would be off the battery drain with NEXUS-livewallpaper, but with this it is down to 51%. It's sucking battery like a MADMAN.
Any help?

Battery is often related to the kernel you're running. How old is your battery? If it's been subject to heat for a long time, the cells may be aging quicker than normal.

Probably approx 1-2 years old. The heating was related to Cpu overheat, not battery. Thanks for help bro. Anymore help is hihgly appreaciated

The SoC sits directly under the battery in the HD2. If your SoC has been overheating constantly, your battery has too. Have you ever seen your battery randomly drop ridiculous % over a few minutes?

Hi there,
I'm using a almost 2-years old HTC Sensastion and I was having huge battery problems for the last few days.
It all started back in february when my phone started shutting itself off just like that, showing strange battery stats (after a phone-forced reboot, 70 % of my battery would be gone), etc. So I checked some threads on XDA and came to the conclusion that my standard HTC battery wasn't functioning properly anymore. Per the advice given by some users here, I bought an Anker 1900mAh which worked fine for the past few months.
Unfortunately, the problems started again last week. Loosing battery whithout even using the phone, weird reboots which resulted in an apparently empty battery, etc. I wiped everything but the sd card and installed a new rom, but that didn't solve the problem either. So I suspected the Anker battery - you never know if you get a somewhat broken battery...
I bought another Anker 1900 mAh battery last week, but my phone is still acting weird. I didn't have any more forced reboots, but sometimes the phone just shuts down without me doing anything. Unplugging the battery for a few seconds is the only way to get it started again.
For example yesterday: I used the music app and Sygic Aura as a navigation app for about 30 minutes (screen on the whole time). The phone had 100 % battery in the beginning and after I shut everything off, it still had 95%. 10 Minutes later though the battery dropped by (!) 10 %. Just like that.
I got home and kept the phone running for about 8 hours (just "sleeping"..no data connection, no wifi, no app running). After 4 hours, the battery lost 20 % just like that. I've installed some "battery apps" to get to the bottom of this:
8 hours of just laying there:
12 hours of just laying there:
----
I'm a little concerned that this might be hardware related and that I might have to get a new phone. Changing the battery didn't solve the problem. Could it be an overheating issue? When I got home yesterday I noticed that my phone was really hot (it was freaking hot in my car though as well...).
I've been using that MIUI rom for almost a year I reckon and I've never had any problems remotely to this, so I don't think it's a software problem (at least not ROM related).
I hope you can help me
probably i think there is no proper contact
did you try to put a piece of paper ibetween the pins to improve contact?
No, I haven't.Do you mean on top of the battery or should I put the piece of paper on the bottom of the phone so that it's like
Battery
Pins
Paper
?

on top of the battery
edit:try both ways
The Sensation is a bit funny in the way that it reports battery usage, and can jump all over the place even on light usage. Try rebooting if you get a big jump and see if it goes back up.
Edit: Woot 100th post!
That would mean that the Sensation shuts itself off because it misreads the battery percentage? That seems highly unlikely to me. But I'm no expert

Hi, currently Im facing a somewhat weird issue. Firstly, my battery is not able to reach 100%. Im not talking about the charger "purposely" doing so, but the led remains orange for hours, and stuck at 99%. Secondly, the battery sometimes increases and decreases at its own "free will", most of the time decreasing by 2%. When left on standby, the battery reaches 50% from full charge in just a matter of 5 or 4 hours.
Its not the battery since I recently purchased an anker battery and facing the same problem still. Anyone can provide a valuable input?

I am facing the same issue as well. As far as I know, Sensation battery stats remain wierd with almost all custom ROMs. The back up is quite fine as last 40% of the battery last quite long. I have tried calliberating battery and it didn't changed a thing.

At least im not alone
Is it possible that sebastian's kernel is the fault? Any suggestions from anyone else?
I have another issue with the battery
When its charging it gets normal until 50% after that the numbers increase very slow but i think is fully charged because if I reset the phone then it shows 100% and works normal.
Also if y use it with battery > 50% with no reset, the % keeps in the same number until it starts to drop normally.
I changed the batery thinking that will solve the problem, but nothing changed with the new battery.
Its not a critical issue, but its annoying

Should be a common issue then. Im not alone at least :victory:
When i was using stock HTC sense in my sensation i faced the following problems;
1)Very fast battery drain if i browse the internet or use any applications(battery falls by 1% every 1-2mins)
2)when battery is 100% after just playing for 5-7mins(plants versus zombies 2) the battery falls by 25% to 75% thats a huge drop.
3)And when playing games just within 5-7mins the phone overheats abnormally
4)the battery part is not very hot but the bottom part below the battery slot is very hot(mostly when playing games)
I rooted my phone and im using vipers 3.1.2 rom but the problem still presists
the battery readings are not accurate most of the times for example sometimes when i have use the phone for a long time the battery still remains the same but after a while the battery drops significantly every second.
My question is is this a battery problem or is the motherboard/cpu of the phone causing these problems.
there is no expert in my country where i can get technicians to check the problems so ur advice is highly appreciated.

How old your battery is? Are you using any third party battery like Anker or Mugen?
Battery stats miscalliberation is a common thing and almost all of us face this issue after flashing a custom ROM. I guess you should give some complete charge cycles and it will get back to normal readings.

Mine after 2 years was in such bad shape that the phone kept dying ~5 mins after opening FB, and that is with low brightness, underclocked. Also the battery itself became bigger, instead of being flat it became... how do I put this... chubby I figured it's because of overheating.
Anyway, switched to Anker, it's much much better now.
I am facing overheating problem
I am facing overheating problem on my htc sensation xe. I am running vipers 5 rom with 1.5 GHz (standard frequency for htc sensation xe).
What I have observed is, whenever phone overheats it eats lot of battery. My battery is only about 2-3 months old. Any work around for over heating problem?
