Hi guys,
I'm sure this must have been asked before, but I don't seem to be able to find anything for Sense4.
The contact photos shown in People etc that are pulled from Facebook don't seem to be updating. If I go to the individual contact 'Updates' tab that lists their activity, I am shown the new profile pic, but not on the contact itself.
As a result, the photo shown in Messages isn't the correct one either.
Has anyone found a way to force an update of these?
I'm currently running TrickDroid 4.4. Thank to the guys for that too.
Any help/advice would be appreciated.

It has to do with the way Google implemented the contact APIs in Ice Cream Sandwich. You can fix it with HaxSync https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mots.haxsync

I did just try and force a sync of Facebook via accounts & sync and this seems to have updated the contact photos without the need for the app.
Not as nice as dynamic updating my any means.

Has anybody else been having issues with the built in Facebook app on Nexus? Every time I try to retrieve notifications I get an error telling me it cannot retrieve.
Getting the same issue. Uninstalled using root explorer and tried reinstalling - no dice. The other version was from the Droid dump.
I wasn't ever able to get notifications working on my MT3G on the Facebook app.
Yes, I think it is some bug Google didn't quite work out before the release. I emailed them and got the standard response that they are aware of the problems...ie facebook...ie...polar clock dynamic color...and is working on it! Let's see how long they take to get it fixed!
I am having exactly the same problem with the facebook app on my hero. Its not a phone specific problem here, but either a facebook issue or an issue with the app itself.
It worked fine on my MT3G, just not so great on the N1 hopefully a patch rolls out soon

Facebook- Synced Contacts Name Issue
After syncing Facebook contacts with phone contacts, it changes the name of the contact to whatever it is in Facebook and 'overrules' whatever other name you have in phone.
I.e.- if you have your dad saved as 'Dad' in your phone and sync with his Facebook contact, it will overrule the name 'Dad' in your phone and display it as his full name a la his Facebook name.
This is ANNOYING as who searches parents by full name?? and others of course.....
Any help??
I don't like this either... there needs to be an option in the settings to make Gmail contacts the dominant/controlling information.
Eager for a solution to this.

im still trying to figure out how to sync facebook with my contacts. can you help me figure that out? no ones nexus really came with a manual lol.
Yeah...found out about this the hard way too Oh well..now I have no idea who is who in my phone.

Go into your contact list. Hit menu, then accounts. Add an account, select Facebook.
Don't think it's a FB Client for N1/Android. I'm having issues with checking notifications directly on the facebook mobile client (which I prefer). This isn't the first time that FB have made changes to the interface without notifications and somethings things are broke for awhile.
My notifications were working again, last night, both the FB Mobile and FB for Android for a very short time and are now broken again.
It's not your phone nor the client. it's the FB developers.
running android on my touch pro (winmo device), facebook app worked fine. facebook status update, when checked online thru pc, says 'status updated with facebook for android). widget works fine too, scrolls right through everyone's status

Facebook Pics + Sync with contacts?
Is the Facebook app that is installed supposed to take a facebook profile and sync and apply the picture with a contact card on the phone? I notice that it adds a facebook section when editing a contact and you could choose to use the facebook picture, however, it doesn't sync the picture to the contact. I check google.com/contacts to verify and there is either 1) no picture, or 2) an old picture that can be updated. I know it mentioned facebook syncing in the app for pictures, status, and contact info, however, the picture doesn't seem to get applied to the contact.
So, did some poking around and found the SyncMyPics. Is this app redundant to what is featured in the facebook app? Or, is it necessary to achieve what I would like?

I'm not sure why you are having that issue. Mine worked perfectly. The only issue I had was where I got dupes because names were incorrectly spelled.
I know that with the Hero ROM on my G1, not all of my contacts would sync pics from Facebook. It probably has to do with the level of security those users have. I'd say only a third of my contacts' pics from FB would sync. This could be the same issue? Are only some of your contact pics syncing?

My previous phone was a Touch Pro and using custom ROMsm I would use the facebook feature a lot where it would update the FB picture to the phone contact, then, it would get synced to Google using MS Exchange.
I just noticed a few friends changing their pictures. Did a force sync under accts and sync and noticed the contect picture didn't get changed... Sp, I'm wondering what is going on here?
Basically, shouldn't the FB app be updating the contact icons when there is a change.. then syncing them with google contacts?

I can't seems to get the latest facebook profile pic for my contacts listed in the People application.
I tried clear the cache for People and Facebook for HTC Sense in the application settings but to no avail.
I am able to get their latest contact number and facebook status message.
Is there a way to manually update the picture?
Please advise.
I have the same problem.
The only solution I found is that I delete the account "Facebook for HTC Sence" and I re added it. This way I force the Sense to synchronize itself with the latest pictures.

just go into the gallery, switch to Facebook and then update after pressing menu
Only problem I got is that MY pic is not really syncing..

What may help, before syncing your contacts with HTC Sense Facebook, ensure that "People --> View --> Only contacts with phone numbers" is unchecked!!!
For some reason, when syncing contacts, this option comes into play.

Which app do you advise ? The Samsung integrated in the Social Hub or the official one from the market ?
I come from a TP where I really liked HTC's integration of facebook in Sense. Not too invasive and living quite well with my exchange account
Right now my contacts in my outlook (2011) on my PC are linked with their facebook profile, and so are they in Sense. With my Tab I worry a little bit about putting a mess in a system that has found its balance
Any risk to duplicate contacts if I use the Samsubg app ? Or the Android app ? Will they merge properly with my exchnage contacts ? Stay aside ?
I just dont wnat to make the step to find out after I messed up my contact list (More than 1200 people so clenaing that up would take me a few days....)

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
The built-in one is pretty much for synching only, any actual facebook viewing would need to be done via the browser.
I switched from the built-in SNS client to the official Facebook client and didn't experience any problems.

The built-in app is just meant to sync your existing contacts on the phone and match them with facebook friends ? Or it adds all the facebook friends ?
The official app doesnt do this ?
Don't get the account permissions confused if you install the market app. Its annoying to find you gave the stock app permissions that arent on the market app.

Both versions sync contact pictures etc. The official app gives you the option to sync pictures+status updates with all friends, just those with existing contact entries, or none at all.

Anyone ? Maybe I am making too much fuss about this but I dont wnat to mes up my exchange contact list...
Not 100% sure about this, but I don't think it will mess up any of your existing contacts.
When logging in using the official Facebook app, it will create a sort of 'profile' for all existing contacts -- it won't merge info with the actual contact. You'll see this when you edit a contact, there will be 2 (or more) tabs when editing the contact.
It's like a 'Metacontact' in Trillian wherein it's only a merged 'View' of a contact, but in reality the data is in separate 'profiles'. The Facebook tab is uneditable and will only display info.
The only problem I have so far is that when creating a new SMS, it will display -ALL- contact numbers and e-mail address of contacts, even if the number is exactly the same:
i.e. I have a contact named Bob Smith in my Google, Exchange and Facebook accounts, and they are merged as one account. In the Dialer, all the info is merged into one contact when displaying, but when editing, they are editable in 3 separate tabs.
However when I create an SMS and scroll to find Bob Smith, it displays all contact infos of Bob Smith, even duplicate ones, like if I have his number +123456789 on Google and Exchange and Facebook, it displays 3 same numbers when selecting a recipient.

Also, when you sign out or remove the Facebook app, it will delete the Facebook 'profile' of the contact on your contacts list, maintaining the state of the previous contact before you logged in / installed Facebook.

I already saw the mess it was having google contacts and exchnage contacts (I usually maintain both... for 1200 contacts!) The worst is for contacts for which I entered only the first name... they happen to be all merged together (Well done samsung... They could have defined a merge key a bit larger than just the name........)

hey, i was just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this on custom ROMs.
the fact that it doesnt give you "tips" on what facebook user go to this/that contact. tried 3 diferent roms and they never give me pairing contacts with facebook friends. have anyone of you guys noticed this?
and for some reason after i install ROMs the pictures on contacts dissapear and when i sync facebook with contacts, it wont add pictures no matter what i do. even when i pair them up myself
Try the app "photo unlocker" to the photo.
It's never given me tips regardless of the ROM I'm using. And when I sync my contacts, I have to join them myself, FB connect to phone number. Half the time contacts force closes when joining. It can be frustrating. I tried an app called hacksync but it made a huge mess of everything. I uninstalled it, and uninstalled the official FB app. I use friend cast now and everything is cool. My pics show up in contacts and Tango syncs nicely. If I have to manually sync something, I don't get the force close anymore.
ill try those alternatives. i have my contacts synced to gmail, so if it screws it up it wont be such a hazzle. and "nice" to see that im not the only one having this problem

i found a way to do it, but its manual and takes ages. you have to sync all, then manually add theyre facebook to the contact. if say you have them linked and there is no picture, unlink them and add again. if there was a number to someone you didnt allready have in contacts and you didnt get a photo, link that facebook contact to a phone contact, but before you actually do that (before the accept screen) click not to confirm and back and it will pull the picture. its a tedious process, but it works. now i dont know if the pictures persist if you change the rom, but time will tell.

Can someone please explain to me why my contacts aren't syncing with the correct facebook picutres my google contacts have on facebook? The picture isn't updating at all. And i have sync contacts enabled. Do i need an app for this? WOuld be nice to have the updated pictures I have not rooted my phone still its still pretty new and really don't want to mess something up. Maybe worth mentioning i have the xperia z3 running lollipop
