[Q] flashed sky ICS, now keeps rebooting - General Questions and Answers

I just flashed sky ICS on my skyrocket and it keeps rebooting right when the blue flame starts to go across the screen. I followed everything step that the thread told me to. I can get it into download mode for odin but thats about it. please tell me that my phone isn't messed up and theres an easy fix. if anyone can help me that would be awesome.

figured it out
I'm not sure how to delete the thread and I feel like an ass for posting before I did a lot more research. I just recovered using Odin. Everything is backed up so no worries. This was my first time flashing a custom ROM. I know. I know. Noob right??? At least it wasn't completely gone. If anyone has any trouble with anything like I just went through then let me know because I know what it feels like to be freaking out thinking that your phone just became a paper weight. And for anyone that is new to custom ROMS. READ! READ! READ! as much as you can about custom Roms and rooting before you proceed to do it yourself because you could end up in a worse situation than I did. If you have soft-bricked your skyrocket, I can help.

[Q] IMMA NOOB I KNOW.. looping after trying to flash stock :(

Just want to say thank you for all the hard work from everyone involved, ive been messing around with roms and such since the days of the G1 and have love Cyanogen and XDA..
So I just got my Vibrant and was trying to flash stock on it using the AIO vibrant toolbox with odin.
It said everything was ok and finished and im pretty good at following directions since ive done it several times before although maybe not the same way on the G1. anyway my vibrant keeps looping the Vibrant logo screen and im just gonna go crazy here at work.
If someone would please be so kind as to point me in the right direction or lend some help with fixing it and getting the stock rom so i can flash bionix latest rom on there, I would be greatly appreciative!!!
btw im still searching all the forums i can to solve this on my own. i dont expect to have it done for me without trying on my own first
edit: I've tried 3 different peoples tutorials and versions of odin or files to flash back to stock and it still keeps looping the vibrant word.
still seqarching tirelessly every forum possible but every one seems to have the same answer which is not working for me... I am in need of some direction pls

Clockwork Questions

I am running 2.3.4 VUVKG4 on my SGS4G. Has anyone successfully gotten clockwork recovery on this device yet? I have tried multiple ROMs from this page, some brick my phone and I have to start over. Usually I am flashing with ODIN but not married to it. No matter what I have flashed, 3e recovery still remains.
This is a huge problem for me and I am guessing others as well. Without clockwork it makes things a lot more complicated.
If anyone has some kind of advice/tutorial/success story, I would love to hear it.
if you go in the sgs4g dev section, there are ALL KINDS guides for everything. if you are in the process of trying to get a GB rom on your device... this is your guide to do it.... in the midst of the process, you will be blessed with the red cwm that we all know and love...

hope this helps
This is huge. I havent seen a decent instruction set written like this for many. Im going to give this a shot tomorrow and see if this does it. I actually think this is the kernel i am using.

BTW this works. That was a great tutorial as well. I already had half of it done so it was just a matter of flashing the new kernel. rebooted right back into clockwork. Only thing I need to do at some point is ext4 my SD card to use lagfix but im in no rush.

[Q] Losing apps after phone reboots itself

Hey guys, THIS IS URGENT!
Ok, here's my problem. Over the past week i have been forced to reinstall my ROM/ROM'S several times. My Infuse will at times shut itself down and i will have to restart my phone. after i restart my phone i notice that all of the apps that i have on the phone that i have gotten from the marketplace will be grayed out and really not on my phone at all. this is getting really frustrating and if i had the money i would be visiting my AT&T store to get a windows phone. I love android and want to stay with it but i am getting pissed.
Do I need to ODIN back to stock or what? The phone will run for about a day and then it will just do what i described above. If I have to ODIN to stock then could someone please tell me how to do it because i have not had to deal with that yet. I would like to be running Zeus on my phone but that is when this whole ordeal started.
If someone could please help me with this i would greatly appreciate it. I really hope that someone has had this same problem. Any help would be awesome!
Thanks,
Bassman

well i have a feeling that the way you worded that last post that i may fave effed this up myself.....heres how it went....i was on dlev first, then i flashed zeus, zeus did the missing apps, then i said screw this and went to caty, caty did it, and now back on dlev and it is losing apps....i know it's a crazy vicious circle but please tell me that i didnt do this myself and that it is just a fluke...

I have notice that crash mostly on zeus. sometimes it is triggered by tibu backups or different launcher or different setting of TW launcher with special animations etc.
This effect probably carried over from flashing other roms over zeus without proper factory reset or wipes.
go to my post on the q/a rom; use jordan's method of flashing the rom you want.
edit: here ya go

i looked at the post that you gave me. is the method done by ODIN or heimdall? i am getting ready to bootcamp my mac so that i can try his method. after i do that method will i be able to run zeus again?

his method is with odin.
(if you are familiar with heimdall, you can take the package apart and use heimdall).
on the last part, flash Zeus ROM
OK, I will give that a shot. Correct me if I am wrong but I have been reading about ODIN and a lot of the stuff that I have seen says that it is not safe for your phone. Is that the case? i would rather just take it back to stock and leave it there if i have a high risk of bricking my phone. Also I would like to thank you for helping me with this issue.

you're welcome.
SOFT bricking the infuse is pretty common. Easy to restore. According to Adam Outler, a bad bootloader flash is possible to HARD brick it.
I think if you're interested in using ROMs other than stock (what comes with the phone), learning how to use odin or heimdall is a must.
These tools will be need to restore your phone to it's original state.
There are some risks, but if used correcly, most are minimal.
I would venture to guess the devs and flashaholics odin their device more times than you can imagine.
It's a matter of comfort level.
In reality, I think the stock froyo or one of the GB leak stock is just fine.
I had a "funny post" in the q/a section you should read.
again thanks for all of your help. you definitely gave me a lot of insight and knowledge that i needed to know that i probably wouldn't have gotten anywhere else. i managed to get caty running. i tried to flash zeus and it bootlooped the samsung screen. so i just decided to go with caty. dlev just wasnt cutting it for me. you have been a huge help and i will definitely recommend this thread to other people who have had this problem.

If you did get caty running again,
Before you do a whole lot, boot into cwm recovery.
Factory reset. Then wipe cache. Then goto advance. Wipe dalvik. Fix permission. Then reboot.
This should give you a relative clean slate.
Caty is also a very nice infuse base ROM. You're not really missing out on much. Just enjoy the phone. Leave the frequent flash to the flashaholics.
Gl
I did do all of that and the ROM seems to be running flawlessly. Thanks for your help man.

As the cobwebs clear, that sounds like problems with bootloaders going from Froyo to Gingerbread. I vaguely remember something about "rainbow" screens if you didn't follow the right steps in the transition.
I think your best bet is getting the Heimdall "one-click" approach to work for you. If you don't have a custom recovery running, there aren't a lot of choices.
@lumin30 wrote up a great set of instructions that I would follow carefully.
It's pretty hard to hard-brick an SGS4G, so breath easier...
I'll give it a try, thanks!

Thanks for answering so quickly, I'll be sure to go and try it out right now and see what happens. I really hope th phone connects to the computer atleast cause it keeps restarting itself... as I said I'm really new to Android I was just trying to update the kernel toget the ROM able to update so I can put on a custom one and get the apps that I really need that wouldn't work on 2.2
But Thank you very much , I'll get right on it and see what happens and say whether it worked or not

[Completed] Please help, anyone. Please!

Alright, Im going to be completely honest. I am a complete and total noob to the tech behind smartphones. As Ive been learning, I tried rooting my Samsung Galaxy SII SCH-R760X, and after I attempted to flash a kernel that was suggested by this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/how-to-root-galaxy-sii-sch-r760-generic-t1928566, my phone is now stuck at the logo with a warning sign at the bottom. After all this, I realized I made the worst possible mistake anyone could ever make: I didnt backup my system. Luckily, I didnt have much data on it anyway. At this point I am aware it has become a softbrick, and Ive looked at guides such as this one:http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development/guide-fix-unflashable-soft-bricked-t1619571, but it still tells me to "put the recovery file in its place". Im assuming he's talking about the backup... which i dont have. If anyone could point me to where I can find a backup for it, or upload one for me, I would be incredibly in debt to you. Thank you for reading, I know how most people feel about noobs, but I dont know where else to go.
Please, if I am doing something wrong with this post, please tell me. I dont want to be an annoyance. In fact, this is my first time ever posting to a forum! Id love to get into smartphone tech, however, since I couldnt find a place to start, I made the foolish choice of simply diving in and ruining my phone (hopefully not permanently). Anyway, thank you for reading! Even if you cant help, I really appreciate the attention. Thanks!

You have already found good threads.
To recover a soft-bricked device, you basically have to flash back an official firmware for your device.
The guide you found was for the GT-I9100G, which is a little bit different from your exact device model.
Here is another guide for other variants of the S2: [GUIDE] Fix an unflashable or soft bricked GSII (I9100G/M/P/T VERSION INCLUDED) by Phistachio.
As there is no "ready-to-go" recovery package available for your device model, you have to get an official/stock firmware for your device.
A link to possible firmware sources is in the first post of the guide you posted.
Flashing the stock firmware with Odin should fix the soft-brick.
If not, maybe a wipe data (= factory reset) in recovery mode (long press Volume UP + HOME + POWER) is needed additionally.
And rooting your device seems to be working with this too: [ROOT] Framaroot, a one-click apk to root some devices by alephzain ... I found some users confirming it working fine to root your device model.
If you still have issues and need further help, please ask in the [Q&A][SGS2][Newbies][Experienced Users][RCs] New members friendly Q&A thread by It_ler thread.
There we try to give detailed help for all variants of the S2.
Good luck !
Thanks for responding man! I didnt think anyone would reply.
I really appreciate the help. However, I downloaded and flashed the droiddroidz kernel turner78 said to flash, and that was what made my phone go softbricked in the first place... I tried flashing the other two kernels instead, and they proceeded to put my phone in bootloop... So, I tried flashing the "Siyah" stock kernel everyone was talking about, and it made this weird eye thing with a yin-yang flash on my phone... And Im sorry Im a total noob, I just recently learned what flashing and kernels were from the help of google :/... Im still a little lost on what Roms are. But reguardless, Im assuming the kernels I tried flashing were incompatible or corrupted, and thats whats making my phone not work. If Im wrong, correct me please. I know my phone is version 1.4.1, but thats about it. I dont know if its "Gingerbread" or "jellybean" or whatnot. Im sure Ive just made a stupid mistake and Im too dumb to know how to fix it.
