Hi, i friend gave an HTC Fuze (GSM) locked on AT&T.
will i be able to use it in europe if i unlock it?
there is some radio-flashing needed or it will just work with any european Sim after the unlocking process?
Sorry, this may seem a stupid question but i'm new to this world
also:
What is the best way(site) to unlock it? i've already looked into that and i know it is a service that needs to be payed off.
Thanks in advice
Ok, it worked, thanks anyway.
re: FUZE unlock for europe
AT&T unlocked mine for free. Just call and ask. I used my FUZE all over Europe and enjoyed very fast speeds from the local carriers there.
Hi
Anyone successfully unlocked their Desire S to use with a different sim card?
me - is the same like any other htc. I bought the code from htcimeiunlock.com
I have a Desire S from Austria and it didn't work by code because the provider (T-Mobile) changed it!
There must be a free way to do this, surely?
dont think so, need either paid for unlock code or xtc clip as i am aware.
just a heads up....if you are a customer of o2...they will unlock the phone for you free of charge...i just purchased this phone off them and had it unlocked

Hey!
I had the same problem! I have a Desire S that was branded and locked by T-Mobile Austria. After searching all over the internet i got a good adress in Schwechat. The guy there unlocked my Desire S in 10 mins. Just look it up in the forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043316!

Hello All,
is Vodafone Sensation 'Locked to Vodafone Sim card only? anyone can test it? thank you.
Yep is it, i was in Vodafone shop today asking about it. They said it's locked but with pay monthly customers, they can unlock it...the girl said she had done it a few times with android devices...they just need a code she said.

fair enough
I'm just going by what the vodafone girl told me. I had a play with one of the phones in the shop, she did a little personal unboxing for me haha
Sense didn't lag at all. Had Vodafone branding on turn on and off and had those crappy voda apps.
My 3 sim works, so must be unlocked.
Are they selling this PAYG as I was debating using my monthly Vodafone SIM in it?
yes it is..

Thanks. Actually a bit surprised at that because normally they keep such new flagship devices for contract only. That's why I hadn't really looked for it on PAYG.
Thank-you all.

is there any way by telling whether the phone is branded or not from preferably the box? ie, so i can go to vodashop and get one on contract, but checking the box labels first to make sure i get one unbranded...the one i had a play with in the shop today had the voda logo on start up and kinds of put me off as i'd like quick updates as-and-when they release...instead of waiting for voda
there is nothing showed 'vodafone things' on box, and nothing on outside of phone.
there is vodafone flash when turn on this phone, and several vodafone software already installed, and not allowed to uninstall (just several times, hope I didn't operate wrongly).
hope this helps.

perhaps there are different codes or something on the box.
I really hope there's a quick way without having to physically ask the assistant to turn each phone on in the hope they have an unbranded one. guessing it'll just be one of the 2 though....a batch of branded or unbranded...can't imagine it's a mix

As always if you want the quickest updates you have to go the SIM free route and I cannot see the Sensation being any different.
I yesterday moved from O2 to Vodafone and got the Sensation on a monthly contract. It is UNLOCKED and I still use my O2 SIM with it, waiting for my O2 number to port to Vodafone. As menntioned above. the Vodafone logo shows when power is turned on. I assume this means that it is branded and we will need to wait for software updates from Vodafone ruther than the general update.
It is unlocked and branded - but minimally.
Apart from the fugly Vodafone boot screen there were at least 3 Vodafone apps installed initially - the first one is visible as soon as you turn the phone on as it puts a nasty red icon in the notification bar!
First thing I did was load the "Vodafone 360 updates" program and disable automatic updates. I then ran the one outstanding update it was showing. The update downloaded and ran and then the other handful of Vodafone apps suddenly self-destructed! They all disappeared from the application drawer (for example there was initially a ****ty Vodafone Shop and Vodafone Music app). Now only the updates program is left and is set to be invisible.
I guess the Vodafone crapware was so crap that the self-update deleted all the apps! Excellent
Oh and I forgot to say. My last phone was the HTC Legend. When the froyo update came out for Legend, Vodafone had bribed HTC to release it on Vodafone branded handsets first and to hold back to unbranded handsets for a month's exclusivity! I suppose another benefit to branded handsets is that they should be correctly configured for the network - I never did manage to get O2 MMS working on my unbranded Legend.

They sell it PAYG or I misunderstood it?
Because I really want to buy it without any contract o-o

On the Vodafone eforum a Voda mod stated that it will be contact only to start with, at a guess while they have it exclusive. Also all Vodafone contract phones are sent out unlocked apart from iphones and fully exclusive phones like the first blackberry storm was.

The branding is VERY minimal on this. Quick Vodafone icon on boot up and shutdown, but it doesn't stay for long thankfully
how much does it cost at vodafone? and is it available on all of their shops?

Currently there is no know method of sim-unlocking the Sensation without an unlock code purchased from a site. Also, this thread should be in the General forum, not here. Please some mod move this

Where did you get the phone from?
You could always just call T-Mobile. They always give me the unlock codes. I ust tell them (ATT also) that I am using the phone overseas, and I need the unlock code to use an international SIM. ATT usually just gives me the code, and T-Mobile emails it within 24 hours. I have yet to be told no by either carrier.

Not that easy : in France, the Sensation is atm SFR exclusive (same as Vodafone)
And they don't have the codes handy for the time being even though they're forced by French laws to give it for free to those who bought the phone with a pre-paid offer !

Vodafone UK already unlocked
I assumed when I got my Sensation from Vodafone that it would need to be unlocked to accomodate my Orange SIM. So I was looking around for an unlocker and was just about to part with cash on one of the sites, when I thought I would pop the Orange SIM in the phone to see what the error message would be.
I was then greeted by the Orange carrier signal and all was working fine!! Glad I didn't pay my £15 I would have been well gutted.
So yeah, I can confirm that the Vodafone ones in the UK are already SIM unlocked. Nice!
Also - off topic - there is no branding on the phone other than a quick logo upon booting up the phone. So all in all a good deal.

Well, As far as I know the phones in Europe don't have simlocks, so I suggest you try it first when your phone arrives and than look if it has one. It could be it's simlockfree at the moment it arrives.

There should be a website or something that does this
I just picked up two today, if I find out I'll let you know.
To my knowledge if you buy the phone outright, tmo will provide a code but their cx service is closed so im calling in the morn

Your understanding is incorrect.. ony in certain countries eg belgium the law mandates that the phones cannot be locked to a carrier else most of the countries eg france, put a simlock

any updates on this?...
About to be backpacking and traveling around Europe.
Option 1: I have a rooted Verizon HTC One M8. Thinking of doing a Three - UK Simcard over there as it's very cost effective and they even have an unlimited data plan add on pack for 15 euros. I know that most recent Verizon smartphones are sim unlocked. Would my 4G work with most prepaid SIM cards including Three's sim card? I'm a little confused as to how it works and I'm worried that, yes my Verizon HTC one would work, but would I get 4G signal or is it mostly 3G signal? I'm assuming I keep my Verizon plan but just suspend my Verizon account while I'm abroad?
Option 2: Buy an Unlocked Used Galaxy S5 for a couple hundred bucks and include whatever SIM I choose in Europe, suspend Verizon and Keep HTC in the states, reactivate when back.
Option 3: Buy a OnePlus tomorrow for around the same as a GS5 and include whatever SIM I choose in Europe, suspend Verizon and Keep HTC in the states, reactivate when back.
Option 4: Buy a BLU Vivo Air Smartphone on Amazon and include whatever SIM I choose in Europe, suspend Verizon and Keep HTC in the states, reactivate when back.
Thoughts or advice from anyone who's been to Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy) with a Verizon HTC One?
Thanks!
I honestly don't know a 100% answer as I've never done that, but since your HTC is unlocked, and removable SIM, couldn't you just suspend Verizon, get a 4g SIM when you're over there, pop it in your M8, and go about your trip then just reactivate VZW when back?
Sounds like that's what you'd be doing anyways if you were to buy an extra phone to do that exact same thing anyways.
Or are you worried about losing/ breaking it over there then having nothing? If that's the case, I would get a cheap used one from somewhere, use that over there and then just leave the M8 there. Just my $.02.
Recently just asked this, Im going to get a cheap sim when I am over there and hope it works.

I'm going to start in Germany (berlin) and hoping to travel around Switzerland, Austria, and Italy...Thinking I'd go with Three's service from the UK for the unlimited data (which doesnt work in Germany, but almost everywhere else) and I'd get a sim for my time in germany or just use wifi.
Also, do I need to do anything special with Verizon for unlocking (other than suspend my line for the time I'm abroad)? I mean do I need to pay them to unlock the sim or anything? I've read that most recent verizon phones are sim unlocked and global ready... Just wondering if i'm missing something...
Curious to hear what you decide on or if you have any other thoughts.

You don't need to do anything with Verizon. The phone is SIM unlocked out of the box. You'd just need to add the correct APN settings.
