Recovery Abort's When Installing Zip/Rom/Kernel - HTC Sensation

Can someone help me out here? I can't install anything anymore in recovery, it just aborts right away,Even after I wipe tho it still reloads fresh with my old Rom from May. I deleted everything off my SD card before I Wiped all my data, and tried to install my new rom, I dunno if that did it, Anyone have any ideas?
Edit: It was Safari automatically unzipping the file.. I guess Recovery cant handle the file if you recompress it! used Chrome worked great!

Rom Manager not working today

I just did an Odin 1 click to stock then proceeded to install rom manager after rooting and i cannot flash CWM recovery. every time i do it says there was an error downloading the recovery. is this a problem with just me or is it community wide? This is the same process I use every time to flash roms, and i can't think of anything i've done wrong this time around.
Can anyone confirm this? Im stuck on the stock captivate rom I really wanted to flash the gingerbread themed rom thismorning :/
Also i flashed back to stock a second time and re-did the root, but still i'm getting the same error in rm manager that there was an error downloading the recovery....
just copy this update.zip to your internal sd, it'll apply clockwork recovery, bypassing the Rom Manager install. No need to rename or anything
1)copy update.zip to internal sd
2)reboot into recovery
3)select reinstall packages (or whatever it is...can't remember exactly, but you should know what I'm talkin about)
4)it'll reboot, then you'll have Clockwork Recovery, and can do whatever
hope this helps ya.
I've found it significantly time saving if, after going back to stock in preparation for a new flash, you just copy this update.zip and the rom file to your internal sd, then reinstall packages to get clockwork off this update.zip, then immediately from there, you can flash the new rom. Totally saves time of having to root the 2.1 install, download rom manager, flash the recovery, reboot, copy rom to sd, then install...cuts flash time in half, it seems
Thank you so much! this worked for me

For anyone and everyone seeing this post, this method is considered the best and the most non-intrusive way. And yet, it gives complete functionality in recovery mode.
glad I could help. happy flashing!

[Q] Stock rom, rooted, 2.3.6, errors restoring /data!

I have an issue where when Im in e3 or clockwork recovery where when I am trying to do a data wipe and clean flash. I get an error at the end- "error restoring /data!" after It goes through and verbosely lists all the caches and files its restoring. When I actually get into the recovered rom, I have a bunch of most of the old apps listed as on the SD card 0.00B, I can't move them to phone, or erase the data as there is nothing there, I have to uninstall them each time. Sometimes I get a ton of force closes when I reboot the phone. I fix permissions in CWM at least ten minutes after a flash to let the phone cache.
I wasn't getting this problem until I tried to flash Alien 5.5 with a corrupted file in the zip which aborted the flash. Does anyone know why this has affected all of my backups? I can't get a good recovery because of the /data issue.
On another topic, Does anyone with alien 5.5 have a non-working home button as well as no market app? I wanted to post or pm romracer about the homebutton issue because I cannot find a fix for it anywhere.
You have corrupted ur internal sd card that's y this thing happens!!!!!! You need to do is follow this steps here!!!!!! IF you already tried that than go back to stock and start over!!!!!!

erased internal sd

Partioned sdcard and backed up wrong files- lost everything off phone- getting process.android.media stopped, can't download(error 491) no apps- any help please
This hasnt happened to me before. Does it boot up? If you can get into download mode try using a Odin One Click.
Good luck
Boots fine, shows all the apps but they aren't installed because I can't download. I'm running CM9 with IcyGlitch, no problems there except I cant run ROM manager pro because I cant download it again. I think it must be something to do with a media file because music and gallery doesn't work either.
Got it! Did a wipe data/factory reset and everything seems to be working again

[Q] cleanrom,data2sd gave encrypt error. reflashed cleanrom but !microSD

I wanted to go the data2sd route and tried installing by formatting the 64mb class 10 microsd with minitool partition. After installing everything , the tablet stuck at "encryption error" only option was to reset. It did that everytime i started it. So i did a factory reset, format system and it threw a error saying cannot format sdcard android secure. So i then reinstalled cleanrom using the unters rom at the bottom selection and deleted cache then dalvick took sd card out and rebooted. Finally no encyption error.
Looked in es file explorer cleanrom installed to the /data, ilooked in sdcard/ and there is a file that data2sd installed called !microSD and i cannot delete it. I opened /sdcard in root explorer and the !microSD isnt there, i tried "show hidden files" in settings but it still wont show. I booted clockworkmodand chose installfrom internal sd and the !microSD shows. I click on it and it just opens another !microSD, i can keep clicking it and at the top if the screen it will look like this /!microSD/!microSd/!microSD/ and on and on. I want to delete it or format the internal sd but i am scared to format it, i have heard horror stories of bricking when choosing format emmc or format sdcard. I have tried format system to startfresh but it will format system, then data but it will say cannot format android secure skipping format. I dont mind wiping /sdcard since i backed up a few pics and movies.
I did format the 64gb with gparted. I want to try data2sd again but imicrosd file needs to be removed most likely. I tried to rename it too but es file explorer wont let me.

Nevermind, i decided to bite the bullet and install cleanrom 3.0.3 and followed directions for data2sd. It installed without encryption error and the imicrosd file was gone. But from what i have eread about data2sd it didnt install correctly because the file system should have showed sdcardi which it didnt. I tried downloading a torrent movie and the tablet became unuseable, freezing. Also moving files from the ext4 to fat32 were sloooow. I decided to flash a kernal from the t700t forum on the data2sd subject. That resulted in the encryption scenario. So i factory wiped in clockwork and installed the newest cleanrom 3.3 and the 3.2 chromidata2sd file then the mount2sd file and then the kernal pack and used the 10.4.20 tf300 kernal. Rebooted fine. The tablet is real fast but i havent tried a torrent download. I also had two weird half reboots with each one when i tried deleting a file in file manager and then in es file. I do have a folder called internal sdcard which has the usual files on it. Didnt have that with the old 3.03. I did but it was empty.
Anyone know why it reboots when deleting a file? I did disable fsync though.
Don't use minitool to partition the card. It corrupts and causes reboots, etc. Even though the d2sd thread recommended it, don't.
Use gparted instead and all will be well.

I figured that out after the first encryption Error. I then spent all for one day trying to figure out how to partition the card in gparted. I should have deleted both partitions and then format them, instead I moved them in gparted and that took 4 hours. Then i found a write up on exactly what to do.

Well i just went through 4 hours of being terrified that I bricked my tablet. I kept getting reboots, i installed androbench and when i clicked on the benchmark button the tablet rebooted. Tried to run the benchmark again and rebooted again. I then tried to uninstall it which rebooted the tablet again. I went to clockwork recovery and wiped /factory reset i then proceded to reinstall cleanrom 3.3 with stock kernal, then format cache, installed chromi.3.2data2sd,wiped cache, started the kernal installer and chose unters 10.4.4.20 ,wiped cache, flashed mountdata2sd.zip, factory reset. I restarted to a bootloop. I then wiped and factoryreset again and installed cleanrom again this time choosing no kernal and wentthrough the steps and had a bootloop again. I started worrying and did another factory reset but installed stock kernal and didnt install data2sd, rebooted to a the asus screen with blue loading bar, that screenflashed black and then stuck on asus screen.
I then freaked outa bit because i dont save backups. I then did a horrible thing, i formatted emmc. I had read a few posts about installing a fresh rom for thepurpous of selling. A few posts mentioned that it was safe to format emmc but to be careful since it might format an external card too. I rremoved the sd card beforehand. I then did a factory reset in clockwork and proceded to install cleanrom . Install went fine and i clicked on reboot system. BOOTLOOP! I was really freaking out now. So i looked up format emmc some more and the horror stories started appear. I downloaded peri one click root+recovery/fix-bootloops+softbricks. I had android phones listed in system properties but no adb. While searching for a work around i came across how to reinstall stock firmware over a rom. I downloaded the tf300t firmwware 2013.01.18 up date unzipped it and threw it ona microsd. In clockworkmod i chose install zip from sdcard and boom fixed!!!!!!!!!! I was sooooo happy. So i now have a locked tf300t unrooted factory fresh. But there is one problem, in file manager on /sdcard/ there is that file that mountdata2sd.zip installed called !microSD that shows 0.0bytes and i cannot delete it. It doesnt show up in windows 7 though. I have show hidden files checked too. My plan is to reinstall clockworkmod and try data2sd one more time but i want to delete that !microsd file first. I need to make a few more posts until i can ask in developer forum.

[Q] unable to open zip in TWRP

Hi, I've been trying to hunt down an answer to my problem with no avail, hopefully someone here can help. I've a rooted Huawei y300 0100 back on factory stock again.
My problem is this after I rooted (went fine first time doing this) installed TWRP created backups, Flashed Fusion x rom no problems at all, found a few bugs thought I would try another ROM, restored my stock from twrp saved backups all good I thought...
Upon re entering recovery everything is fine, factory wipe etc then when it comes to installing any ROM I get the message E: cannot open zip. This happens on any ROM I try, so I know its not the file, file can also be opened on PC and phone explorer.I've formatted the external SD card and re-downloaded ROMs still nowt.
I would just use the stock again and run a new launcher and delete the bloat myself but I can't get Orbit working at all now I'm rooted and back on factory stock when it was working fine on fusionx and orbit/Pandora are pretty much what I did all this for
Any ideas would be appriecated as I'm pretty noobish at this.
Would installing cwm over the top of twrp work?
Do I need to do a special kind of wipe in case of file corruption?
Solved, after some fiddling got flashing working again. What worked for me was to redownload the file direct to internal SD and flashing from there. Downloading anywhere else ie PC or ext SD and copying across still gave same error. Not sure why but I've flashed 3 ROMs today without issue this way. Hope this helps anyone else who encounters this.

ABSOLUTELY confirmed. I was trying it for days. After finding this post, direct downloading to sdcard worked for me.

yeeah... thank you bro
I also had problems with "unable to open zip file" and "bad" errors, seemed to be fixed by formatting a spare 4gb MicroSD to FAT and making sure it was the first thing copied to the SD card. I was using PHILZ recovery, but I'd assume that TWRP will work just as well. I have a suspicion it may have something to do with file fragmentation or maybe allocation block size. Before this I checked MD5SUMs on a few MicroSD cards and they were all perfect, so it wasn't a download or copy corruption, the bootloader just has an issue with the file or filesystem for some reason.
Can confirm. Was having trouble installing Boeffla 3.0 kernal on gnabo 4.4.2 (v8). ( samsung galaxy note 10.1 n801x / n8013 )
Deleted the zips I downloaded, then re-downloaded straight to zip. installed like a boss!
Thanks!
This is a most underrated thread.
Just had the same issue with my old Galaxy S3. Needed to copy the zip directly to internal storage via mtp in twrp.
In newer twrp version it shows zip file corrupt instead of unable to open zip.
