Title says it all. No matter what I do I can't get the phone to open on any sense based Rom. I can receive calls just fine but every time I hit the phone or contacts button it either FC's or just closes immediately. But on aosp toms it works great. Any ideas?

Are you wiping before flashing? Have you tried wiping your cache and dalvik cache?

Absolutely.

I re wiped cache/dalvic and then wiped the system, and refreshed. When I open the phone it will open for about a second before it closes. Same with the contacts app.

That's really strange. What ROMs have you tried that are doing this?

Sick sense, cleanrom 3.0, and modaco, and the stock 1.85. I'm downloading KingCobra now.

By 'wiped the system' do you mean just the /system partition or all partitions? (Boot, system, data and cache)

Just system in twrp.

Fix problem
Another option is to just to bring the phone back to stock and start over again. There are threads that show how to do that.

Ya I'm gonna relock and do the ruu tonight if I have to. Just didn't want to deal with it if I didn't have to.

Well you should be wiping your data partition too. Keeping the same data partition while flashing different ROMs will cause a lot of problems and FCs. Especially with phone and contacts and such system apps.

Yeah I've had to do it a few times. Kind of irritating but do what ya gotta do I guess. At least then you know there's no mistakes.

It usually depends if your changing from different ROMs or staying with the same chef. When changing between different chefs Roms, its always best to do a wipe. Their thread will tell you such. If your staying with the same chef, you only need to wipe if they say so. Usually it will be noted in the release notes.
Good rule of thumb, if you are in doubt, use titanium backup and wipe.

Why would you wipe dalvik after wiping /data? Dalvik is located in /data and will already have been wiped.

How do you do a full wipe like everything except the s d card I don't want it to have any remdrnts of anything is that what the Android revolution wipe would do.

Thanks for infotmation.
Sorry for bumping an old thread but just to clarify on the wiping. In order to transition from lets say an Android Revolution HD ROM to one of InsertCoins I would have to wipe the data and cache via Recovery or else a simple execution of Mike's Superwipe script would suffice?
Zz
data and cache wipe recommendet before flashing new roms.
if u wont that there could be some know issue problems - so dont cry ;-)
maybe u should take an nandbackup before flash.
tried wipe when i flashed 2 roms ... so far so good ...
no harm wiping ... and dun forget to backup before that

Hi,
Sounds good, if your are staying on ICS.
I just wipe data factory reset, wipe cash and dalvik, then install from zip. This its going from sense to Aokp. I never had a problem. It installed and ran perfectly. Hope this helps you. They're different ways but this is what I do. Then changing back I do the same. Never caused a problem.. Works perfectly for me.

Did you do a full wipe including SD card? Cyanogen and Virtuous are very different so I'd remove any traces of VI but installing CM9.
If same result possible screen on the way out
This is probably a result of flashing the ROM incorrectly. I've had this problem before, just do a full wipe and try again. :good:

So I've been on 2.4.1 but I really wanted to flash to jb 3.2.1 for the first time so I did it and it worked fine but then I realized I had to reboot for some apps to restore there data and I did so but then it gets stuck at the Viper xl boot screen. Also it says u don't have to flash the boot. Img so I didn't also I wiped everything b4 I flashed it from ics 2.4.1 to jb 3.2.1.. I also have twrp
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
Are you on hboot1.14? I'd flash the boot img just to make sure
by "wiping everything" do you mean you did factory reset (in TWRP) and wiped cashe and Dalvik? Those are all mandatory to wipe (at least if you are having troubles0.
Well I flashed it about 4 times and it finally works I have no idea what was wrong but everything is ok now.. Thnx

Make sure data you are restoring isn't system data as ics and jb don't like each other

I'm running the latest CyanogenMod nightly and everything just lags, same with AOKP, occasional freezes too.
Used to be running Paranoid Android 2.54 just fine.
Wiped the SD card completely, lag persists.
TWRP 2.3.3.1
HBoot 1.14.0002
S-ON
Is this a known problem? Can I fix it?

Are you performing complete wipes between installs? factory reset, system, cache and dalvik cache? Sounds like dirty flashing.

I'm pretty sure I wiped everything, then again, recovery wasn't contributing much with wiping in the past.
Is there a fail-safe way to wipe?
You can wipe with adb.

No offense, but scratch that idea. If you do not have a understanding of adb it would not be wise to use it until you study up on it. There is plenty of information on xda concerning adb and it's uses.
