Okay, I'm gettting really really pissed off at this issue and I need to know if this is just my tab or a honeycomb issue!! So using the stock email app (not the Gmail app) i send an email and i find that it appears as unread under sent. I figure that's fine so i click the checkbox and mark as unread--resync my email and i find that it still says unread!! Even if i give it a day or two, the "Unread Sent Mail" just stacks up...so frustrating. Am I the only one here? I can do a factory reset if that's the only option but i'm always busy and don't feel like rerooting and reconfiguring my tab to the way i want....any help? Btw, anybody else experience their alarm icon disappearing randomly during the day? Thanks for any comments or words of motivation haha

Thanks for the suggestion but I figured out sync issues by Changing my IMAP prefix then using a computer to log into gmail and select which IMAP folders to hide.
I dont share photos often, but shouldnt there be an option to post a pic directly to facebook in our camera app? Is this possible? Do I need to add something? Or just SOL
there is, if you take a picture and then click the bottom right corner of the app it'll open up that recent picture then click the share button and then scroll to FB I just checked it and it should work. Maybe make sure you are logged into facebook on your phone and if you are try a restart or if that still isn't working I think there is a way to open said photo in a different photoviewing app (i recommend quickpic) and that will have the share feature, but if that app can share to facebook then your camera app should be able to as well. In which case maybe a reflash of the rom WITHOUT A DATA WIPE should do the trick.
You can also access the camera from the FB app and post the picture directly that way.
I acctually just use my browser to ,access fb cuz the app uses too much batt. Maybe u need to have the app to have the share option?

You do.
That sucks! The fb app takes away hours of battery life.

You can try FriendCaster and disable notifications. It's quite a bit less resource intensive than the official app.
you can also disable notifications in the official FB app as well but knowing facebook some sort of data nonsense will be going on in the background so you can use a data blocker like pdroid (i think that's the name) or autostart blocker to stop it from opening unless you open it.
Hi All,
Sorry if this issue has been brought up before but i couldn't find an answer anywhere on the forums. Please note that this is my first Android device and i'm still getting accustomed to the OS.
I prefer using the stock email app over the gmail app on the galaxy S3, however, everytime i receive a mail notification and want to check it, the phone automatically opens the gmail app to check the email instead of the stock app.
I can't find anything in the settings menu or the settings in either application to help with this issue.
Anyone know how to set the stock email app as the default to open emails from the notification bar?
Thanks!
Go to settings>apps>all and disable Gmail. Haven't tried this with Gmail but I have to assume it works, I can vouch for disabling the stock browser and messenger this way.

Hi all,
OK - I have the Sony Gmail app installed on my SW2 and I'm using a stock (rooted) LG2.
On the phone, I don't need (or want) Gmail running in the background so have all notifications & sync disabled - basically, I just want Gmail to work a) when I check it manually or b) occasionally when I'm waiting for a mail to come through and need notifications on my watch and will enable them.
Weird bit.
I disable everything as mentioned, and the phone happily shows me no notifications, BUT the SW2 does!
I check the phone when one comes through on the watch and sure enough there's none there and I have to swipe down to poll the account.
My question: which app is polling the account - is it the Gmail app or the SW2 extension - and more importantly, how can I stop either/both of them doing it and save battery life/my sanity?
Is the phone secretly checking in the background for mail but not showing me any notifications?
Thanks for any tips.
If you don't want to poll Gmail, then, remove the extension from the watch.

Yes, but if you read my post you'll see that I occasionally do need to poll Gmail.
Your suggestion is a bit like "if you don't like being stuck in traffic, sell your car".
I use an app called Watchify, in it you can enable/disable notifications pretty much on the fly. It's now a paid app, but free trial for 14 days. I liked it enough to buy it. You can turn off Gmail notifications when not needed, then back on when needed. But you will have to do it from SmartConnect on the phone. I think maybe you might be looking for a filter for Gmail.

Yeah, I use Notfify Smartwatch ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.shuisky.notify ).
I can use this actually instead of the Gmail app.
I'm still confused as to what's polling the Gmail account though. The phone certainly doesn't seem to be, but these extensions don't work independently.
Do you see what I mean? It's like the phone is polling the account, just not showing any notification to prove it is.
It's very odd.
I guess the first question I should have asked is, what apps/ext on you running on your SW2?

Call Handling

Gmail
Notify Smartwatch
That's it.
The extension works independent - directly accesses your account not using Gmail App. So it's correct that the extension ignores what your phone notifications tell or hide

Wow. Is that so..
So, question answered then - thanks very much.
it's a bit hit and miss. e.g. this email notification came through, but the notification for the other thread replies didn't.
Not much use anyway!
I think it might be following the rules of categorising in Gmail website where those mails might be put together in one thread. But idk... I'm using stock Xperia Email and Extension.
On my S4 I used AquaMail with AquaMail Extension. Worked well.

Yeah, you could be right.
All seems to be working well now with the Gmail SW2 app removed anyway.

you sold the car then?
No, just changed the type of fuel it uses..
To the makers of this Gmail smart extension.....I noticed today that my data was being used so I decided to investigate, 1.47 GB was used for Gmail smart extension. What the F---? This is a bad app and I demand a solution to this as you just cost me most of my data plan!
Ok so I am coming from iPhone so excuse me for this question:
any reason NOT to change the default SMS app? I was browsing the app store and realized there are MANY out there.
Isn't it bad/bloat/slower to install an additional messaging app? The more I have the more running, no? The more running, the more I use battery, using resources, and so on....
Help
Thanks

No real reason why not, you can set the default to the new one you install and so it will become the main SMS app in use, the other one wont cause any resource usage. With one you install from the play store you get the benefit of getting more features and updates. I use the Google messenger SMS app on the store but have used textra before which has a lot of customisation options and features.
Thanks a lot for the help!!
