Swype Beta - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Themes and Apps

I'm really liking the new Swype beta. (Only played with it for about 15 minutes so far)
Smaller keyboard, nice predictive text.
I loved swype on my Galaxy S, and was using it on the Note, but it took up too much of the screen.
I switched the Swiftkey beta, which was not quite as fast for me to enter text, but allowed me to see more of the screen when I set the keyboard size to small.
The new Swype beta keyboard is only slightly bigger than the Swiftkey beta, but I can enter text a lot faster with Swype, so I think I'll be using it as my main keyboard from now.

I just downloaded it for paranoidandroid and it works fine, i needed to.redownload the Swype beta installer apk because the one i installed earlier was failing after entering username and password.
I went back to the Swype site downloaded the installer again and then it successfully installed the new Swype.

Also downloaded Swype Beta today (My dark swype was tiny on Paranoid).
Can't get the keyboard the right size though grrrrr! frustrating swype's the best keyboard out there.

Yep, same thing for me, using 213 for system dpi, and 213 for swype, it fits the screen, and looks like it's right, but the keys are about half the size of the older swype I have on there. changing the dpi scales the keys off the side of the screen. phone/tablet in paranoid settings doesn't seem to have an affect either.

This is how i have it on mine, it's pretty small but i don't mind this size so i haven't looked into adjusting dpi for it. Seeing that doesn't work for you guys it won't work anyway.
The keys could get stretched to be taller but you can't make them any wider for the same qwerty keyboard layout. I prefer to have more screen area for text rather then have the keyboard fill half or a third of the screen. I use 182dpi so i like this a little smaller then many others i assume.
It would be a cool feature if you were able to stretch a keyboard like a widget on a home screen rather then using dpi to adjust size.

I am finding the Swype Beta to be much improved.
However, don't try and download it on Google Chrome - you have to use the stock Android browser. Wierd. You get a small useless .bin file if you do.
Worked fine on the stock browser, which I never use. Never had this problem with any other website.

Not sure if there was a typo in your post, but mine is 1.0.3.5809.

when I switched from one handed Samsung keyboard the swype got smaller
but after a while it's scretched by itself. Dunno what triggered it. I had to switch to Samsung one handed keyboard to swype again to have it become small again
I actually like this one handed swype wannabe and am wondering if anyone can hack or edit it so it stays that way

+1 I love swype~!
I do have an issue with it tho, it won't save any new words to my dictionary...I press space and even hit the swype key like it said but still no dice.
If you type/swype a word that isn't in the dictionary you need to delete the word it suggests and then type out the word you want and press space. I've added a few curse word lol

I do, I even manually type it in and it still won't save.
I had to go to the dictionary and add some words manually.
Glad its beta hopefully the full version will auto add words even if you gotta type them out every once in a while it is still way faster

Yes, I was wondering about this as well. I know that some keyboards have the option to export/import saved words. I like to use Swype, however, I find myself in situations where I wipe my phone a lot in order to try new Roms.
Is there a way to export/import or perhaps add a dictionary file?
i dont see how yall use swype. its too much work. swyping all over the keyboard for simple words, and requires too much attention for long words. i can type on a regular keyboard without looking at it
And if you really don't like any keyboard for the phone you can always get a bluetooth one for the phone instead

I agree, it's a learning curve to using swype but once you got it...it's awesome~!
Play with the speed/typo setting a little to get it where you like it and I rarely have to look at the keyboard too hard to get it going.
If I could figure out why my words won't save to the dictionary I would be happy!
Great Great keyboard
I am liking Swiftkey. Fast and predicts your next words. Pretty cool.

HELP: What is the best keyboard?

I don't know which one to keep and permanently use!
Droid X's? Evos? Swype? Maybe a poll will clear this up...
I'm not sure of the "best" but I usually switch between the stock evo keyboard and swype. The droid x isn't all that great to me.
The stock keyboard and swype are both great keyboards but swype just needs some getting used to. IMO
Sent from my HTC evo using XDA App
I personally like the HTC_IME and Swype.
I have tried a lot of them. The X's keyboard reminds me mostly of the ipod touch. The Evos regular one is cool because of the arrows at the bottom. Swype is interesting but I don't think I'm used to it. DIdn't try fat finger one yet.
Should I seriously start using Swype more often? It's getting all the votes....
I like swype because of its one handed ease of use, and the fact that it's an all around cool keyboard ;-P

HTC IME (the XDA MOD one)
I hate the stock and HTC_IME..DroidX for a regular keyboard I liked a lot better, I could type as accurate in portrait as I could in landscape with the HTC keyboards. Then I installed Swype and haven't used another. The way I have everything setup with Swype and ADW.Launcher gestures I can operate the phone completely with one hand.
I usually just use swype. I don't even have to look at my keyboard most of the time now, just wish it had a voice input/arrow keys.

It's so hard to say what is the best keyboard. They all function well, but I lean towards Droid x. stock is good, due to the arrows. HTC_ime mod is good due to the fact of using it for so long (windows was similar to it) Swype.... man I wanna like it, but haven't given it a far try. I will install it, then let it set there without running my fingers over it. Always neglected and always feels left out.

It was in the droidx system dump and it does install but the mic key is crossed out and it pops up messages how its made for another phone and a different resolution.
I wish someone smarter than me would port it
Swype has arrows, swipe from the Swype key thingy on bottom left to SYM key.
I haven't tried any keyboard other than stock as they all seem to have their shortcomings. I couldn't imagine using a keyboard without arrow keys and I certainly want to keep the voice key. The only thing I don't like about stock is how small the space bar is. I keep hitting the period rather than space. I would be much happier if the number key and the voice keys were a little narrower yielding a wider space key.
I like the stock keyboard's functionality, but the Droid X MT keyboard seems a little more accurate and responsive

I don't find myself using the arrows often, but once in a while you pretty much have to have them. Luckily swype has a "text editing" screen that gives you arrow keys, and a few other things like tab, home, end, etc. It is accessed by swyping from the swype key to the sym key right beside it.
You don't need to google around for swype anymore, just google swype and sign up the the free beta. They will send you a link.
I didn't get it for a long time because it didn't seem like it would be so great to me, but now I love it. I have been hopping between roms a lot and everytime I load something fresh, not having swype drives me nuts until I get it installed.
TAB Key
Ok guys, I know a bunch of you are about to roll your eyes but i need help. I love the stock keyboard EXCEPT I want it to have a tab key. I have the Documents to Go app that lets me right in Word but I also need the the TAB key.
Any help??
Thanks in advance!!

Recommended LCD Density for Skyrocket

I was wondering if anyone have ever used the LCD Density changer application in the Android Market. If so, which would be the best way to correct the issues with the dialer being out of place after the density change. I prefer having smaller text on the screen that is why I've opt to changing the density to 200 and below in the settings. I will post a screenshot of the issue I am having after the density change.

Which is the best way to get smaller text within the whole ui? I used spare parts + to make the text smaller but I'd prefer the text size to a bit smaller throught the ui.
UPDATE: So I found a way around the incompatible app situation.

• Cropping similar to Super Keyboard would be nice, as my background image gets a bit stretched.
• More transparency for keys would be fancy.

I meant when I use a custom image, the cropping won't let me fit my full image in the keyboard or it gets stretched a bit, but when I use the same kind of function on "Super Keyboard Pro", the cropping and custom image work much better.

Sems like the SWYPE input doesn't work on Galaxy Ace, any chance to fix it?
Not bad, not bad
Hi, warm welcome for this new one...
I am strongly testing it against Swype...... that is (was?) my winner, it eats a lot of memory I guess....
A few marks:
- the secondary functions of a key (eg. "?") are not hardly visible, with some themes they are almost not even visible
- I use special chars (áéöü etc.) and I have to get used to getting back to é being just e, so not right next to L and so on
Really this much for now...
what I will focus on: (compared to my experience with swype)
- how it learns
- how much memory it eats up
Keep the good work up and Happy Holidays
:good:
Nice. Loving it already. Swiping working on my Samsung Galaxy SL.
Swift key lags after learning lot of words in my opinion. Let's see how this fares.
i like it, the only missing thing, is the swipe on with space (without needing to release the touch) like swiftkey flow beta.
Can someone tell my why the Kii keyboard is closing after i type the first letter?
Language: German
Smartphone:Atrix 4G
Android: 2.3.6
edit : its caused because of the gesture mode. If disabled it works flawless.
Testing right now. It's pretty smooth. Maybe swiping feels a bit slow. And keyboard hides automatically randomly.

I have found 2 bugs in Shapewriter. This is pretty impressive considering the app hasn't been updated in years.
1. Switching from numpad to keyboard causes last typed character to be replicated. (I can most likely correct this issue, but I don't think it'd be worth my time considering how little Shapewriter is used)
2.Keyboard would not work with one SHTTP website I frequent. Not sure if this is a fluke or true bug.
Otherwise it is still very functional and relevant. The creators of this app were ahead of their time.

Bug #1 It's an Ice Cream Sandwich issue. I'd love to see it fixed if you can. It's a pain in the ass if you enter in passwords that are hidden and you forget to backspace.
Yea it was introduced in ICS and lingers in JB. I don't think it'd actually be hard to fix. Currently my theme has only been downloaded 20 times, which tells me SW isn't all that popular anymore. I was hoping if I converted to hi res it'd receive some interest, but I think it's a dying keyboard. TBH I don't even use it since 4.2 keyboard was dropped and it's not a priority anymore. If I get some down time I'll check out logcat and try correlate to smali. I'm fairly certain the problem doesn't lie in XML. Once the offending smali is found it SHOULD be simple edit...

Backup your /data/data/com.shapewriter.android.softkeyboard/databases folder....it contains your user dictionary
If you don't feel like the hassle you can make TITANIUM BACKUP and just install my apk overtop yours...it will inherit your dictionary and you will have a backup if things go wrong
Thanks for enjoying my keyboard!
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just got the S4 and was crushed when I found that Shapewriter is itty bitty in it. Even the reskinned version is pretty small.
I would love you forever if you could make a version that fits on the S4. I'd also give you $5.
I tried every single app on Gplay, and they're all disgusting compared to Shapewriter.
In the meantime, I'll use the teeny tiny version because it's still leaps and bounds better than anything else.

Hi!
THANK YOU!!!
I have LOVED the Shapewriter keyboard for years and was very sad to see that it was extremely tiny and basically unusable because of it's size when I purchased a new Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
I used the XHDPI version and it's size is decent, but I was wondering if it's possible to make it a little larger for use on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
If not, than I'll just use the XHDPI version =)
Thanks so much for your work on updating this!!
Best,
Jason
Yeah, my coworker would still love it to fit properly on his Galaxy S4. He's still using the largest hack you've made available. Thank you!
I hope you can do this =)
