Now before one annoying XDA member says "why didn't you search" blah blah. I did search and there is another A2 thread on this, but it addresses his other question on battery life and not the SD card one. Way too often (more of the time than not) I need to download something through the browser or take a picture or go in my gallery I get "download unsuccessful" or SD card not found and have to reboot. I have formated (will try that again though) and I am running Lithium v1.2.1. Any simple fix for this? I have tried other cards too btw. 8-gig, class 4

Sounds like formatting is the issue here. When you formatted the sdcard, did you do so from within the phone itself, and not from in your computer? I'd try once more, just to be certain. Also, what else are you storing in the card, and are you copying the contents off before formatting and then pasting them back? If so, you may have a corrupted file or filed that are causing you grief...

Try this. I used it to fix the SD issues I had on 2.3.5

You don't have to reboot.. Go to settings, sd card and phone storage, unmount the SD card, then mount it back.. That fixes it..

The majority of my apps are on my 32 GB SD card...here lately, I noticed that the Market kind of gets hung up when updating apps. The apps still show their ICONS and in Manage Applications they are there but the market simply will not do updates. I'll reboot and more often than not, my app ICONS now longer show up. I can go into the SD card through a file manager and everything is there and looking good. It just won’t see the apps there...over time, they either just reappear or I reboot (or reboot a few times) and they return...
I've seen other posts about missing apps on an SD card but this sounds different...suggestions?
still having this issue. Was wondering if anybody else has encountered this? close to just hard resetting my phone a erasing the sd card and starting over.

Thanks for the reply...I didn't go "dirt cheap" but perhaps this is a bad card or one going bad. Stinks!
Also, it was this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820171487
Is anyone having trouble with pictures deleting or becoming unreadable?
I also had a app uninstall its self....
I have had 1 pic problem and a few SD card errors when I know I have 13gigs free. A retry on the download has helped with the app install though.
I downloaded camera zoom ex and when I take pics, usually the first file is unreadable. One recorded video did that as well. No issues with apps yet, lets hope it doesn't get worse.

I haven't had anything with pictures, but I have had the erroneous "not enough room" error and apps have become broken (cannot launch..) and require an uninstall/reinstall. When this happens, in the list of applications, they don't have the "nice" application name, they have the real? name such as net.hexage.radiant.hd
I had installed a circle battery mod widget from the market and when i went to take a screenshot i got a r/o error. But ever since uinstalling said app its been fine.

The attic is kind of weird when it comes to memory. Im thinking it mounts your external like internal and users the actual internal as internal. You have to get a third party file explorer to even see the internal memory. Kind of blows... But once you get used to it you work around it.

So one of my apps that mysteriously uninstalled itself (but the icon remained) decided to start working again (i never bothered to reinstall it and just left the icon, but then it started working again). Weird.
And yeah, even pictures i took that "stayed" are now corrupt. We have memory issues.

I've noticed that the first picture I take is corrupted, I just have to take multiple pictures and everything turns out fine. I downloaded camera zoom fx and its 10x better than the stock camera app.
Do you find less issues using that app? Can it use the stock camera button?

Loving this app, it has torch mode while taking pics... Helps the night shots a lot. Camera button works and it does a ton more than stock Moto cam app can do
Still having memory issues. Wouldnt save a single picture from my email or internet all day. "download unsuccessful" for web pics or "download failed" for email pics.
Pretty lame.
for those of you with issues, are you installing apps to sd card?
i'm thinking what it's doing is when you use apps2sd, it's mounts sdcard-ext as dynamic on the internal memory, but then redirects all sdcard items to sdcard-ext instead of /sdcard. ie apps2sd moves apps to /sdcard-ext and sizes that partition as needed (say 400mb apps, it sizes at 500mb). you take a pic, it goes to save it, but the system is now directing it to /sdcard-ext instead of /sdcard. it sees that there is only 500mb left and kicks it out or activates the low memory message.
if you're installing apps to the sdcard, turn off the phone, pull the microsd card out and pop it into your computer and see what's on it.
i also think that if you use a microsd card, you forfeit the entire 8gb internal storage.
then again, i could be wrong...
Ive been installing on the internal memory.
Thing is, some stuff saved on the memory card (ie from inet etc) will sometimes just become unreadable. This phone has some caching issues or something.
And judging by all the complaints etc, i doubt its a memory card issue.
ok, i removed my sdcard
storage still reads at 4.77GB internal
when i try to take a pic, it tells me to insert an sdcard.
8gb is a lot of space for apps lol 10k justin beiber fart soundboards
Jusy found this. I thik its basically saying the 8 gigs that are supposed to come built into the phone are already being used. Kinda dumb.... https://motorola-global-portal.cust...71812/~/internal-and-external-memory-(atrix-2)

do you realize how many "talking [insert something stupid here]" apps and "[insert infamous person here] fart sound board" apps there are available?
This damn memory bug is really bothering me... i couldnt save a picture from gmail today to save my life. Failed. Failed. Failed. Cannot load.
I guess i can try a class 4 memory card? I have a 6 now... and with class 10 being out there, seems stupid that this would have issues with anything at all, much less a 6.
Have you tried pulling out your card and reformatting it?
No... i guess i could. Would just be a bit of a pain transferring my 16gb to the PC and back again, but ill give it a shot.
But at the end of the day, the phone does have memory issues, that more than likely be solved with an update, so thats good.
Hi y'all,
I just replaced the stock SD card with a sandisk 32gigger. I did a backup of the disk on my PC, and the just copied that info to the new card via my card reader. When I put it in the phone, as well as saying something about read-only (couldn't see the whole notification) and not loading straightaway, it also didn't read the data that I'd just copied. So i tried copying the stuff again, this time doing it with the card in the phone, and I have the same issue. According to my pc, I copied about 5 gigs worth of data, but can see none of it with my phone.
Any ideas?
PS right now I have a notification icon of an SD card with a question mark on it, and when I look at it, it says "Mounted ReadOnly - The SD card has an unexpected problem. Tapping to recover it"
PS n00b alert, so be gentle!

Just realised I probably should've formatted the card first.
I aplogise for wasting the time of any of you who may have read this and I'll now go hang my head in shame....
I'll post again if formatting doesn't help.

So I formatted it, copied all the stuff across, stuck it in the phone, and yet again, I can only see a small handful of the folders that should be on there.
I'm now plugged into my PC and have copied the stuff over again. I've done an error check on the disk which has completed with no issue. I have completely closed down all explorer windows and then opened up the disk and all the folders are still there.
I am now going to safely remove the disk.
Now when I look at the sd card content on my phone, it shows hardly anything.
WHAT'S GOING ON!?!?! This is driving me nuts!
Any help here would be very much appreciated.
If you're rooted, look at the SD card contents through your recovery (Ext4, CWM, etc.) by going to "Install from zip" and just browsing around.

Thanks for the tip. No not rooted just yet.
I've had a look around tho, and found a little program (forgotten what it's cslled now!) that tests removable media and it turns out that my 32gig card is actually more like a 2gig card. That'll learn me for getting unbranded gear from China!
New one on its way, from uk distributor with 100% ebay feedback score. Hopefully this one will work!

I don't know what caused it.. any thoughts? Has this happened to you? Two nights ago, I recorded a 3.5GB 720p video using my phone, after that, I had issues using the camera app / gallery / ES file manager.. Also my battery life started to tank (later discovered it was the 'media' process constantly at 30% cpu), plus lots of random resets. So I *safely removed* my SD card, my phone went back to normal. If it was broken before I had taken that video, I don't think the camera app would have worked.. stock camera app buffer overflow ? Even the dates of some of those files are way wrong, some were even in future 2017 (hey look I invented time travel).
BACKUP YOUR STUFF NOW! I have instant dropbox backup of pictures, and it managed to backup a picture just moments before the video, and fortunately, the video was also ok (it didn't finish backup yet)... But tons of my existing pictures were trashed. Fortunately nothing outside of DCIM was broken.. but it could happen to you!!!
Hopefully this is not possible to the internal storage, would suck to lose files. Even stuff that is backed up, still a PITA.
User error. Don't remove sd card in that manner.

Oh, i didn't word that very well. I unmounted and safely removed the card from my Phone at that point, but it was too late. The corrupt files were preventing apps from reading the DCIM folder.

Hmm... It is a lexar 32GB class 6 card. For digital cameras I normally use Patriot LX class 10's, but this was on sale... Perhaps your on to something.
Something I just thought, is perhaps the 'media' process choked on the 3.5GB file, started using tons of CPU and me opening the gallery app caused one of the reboots (while the SD card was still buffering), and that is what caused the SD card to corrupt?
There is some discussion here with similar 'media' process hanging on corrupted files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922230
I would love to simply stream all my music when I'm driving, but this is quickly eating up my data plan. Therefore, I like to save a lot of albums "On Device" to listen to later. But Google Music All-Access apparently has no way to specify where these files are stored, and they're quickly filling up my internal SD memory.
So, I bought a 64G SD card, but recently found out that it was wasted money as Google All Access has no way of saving the "On Device" files there.
Has anyone found a solution to this? I've found methods that work for Google Play Music PRIOR to the All Access upgrade, but nothing since that point (about a week ago).
I'm surprised there aren't more people complaining about this, but maybe I'm just one of the few that would like to play my music - LOTS of it - without the need to be connected to the Internet.
Any help?
I just dragged and dropped from my computer to external SD card.
I would guess that you can copy and paste the files if you want to do it all on the phone ? I realise that you might have to use a different music app if the one you use now doesn't "see" them, but that shouldn't be too bad ?
Did you try changing the storage path from internal sd to external sd? This can be done by going to settings and storage.

There is no setting like that in the All-Access program.

I've been pulling my hair out trying to get a symlink set up. I'm getting a dreaded "link failed: Operation not permitted" error.
I believe this might be because of the file system on my SD card? It's exFAT... could that be the issue?
You can give this a try

workaround
If you downgrade your version of play music to 5.1 you get save to SD card support that they removed in 5.2. All you have to do is download activity launcher, or use the built in one from Apex or other launcher of the sort, and exapnd the play music activities and then find the one that has ui.something with sd in in and then choose it and run the activity. It lets you choose device storage or SD and i confirmed it works. I cant take credit i found the fix in this article, kind of.. haha
