New Swype beta available (June 2012 release) - Android General

Although Swype beta had been my favorite keyboard on my Galaxy Nexus for the past few months, I was starting to get a bit annoyed by it's mistaken auto-correct and seeming lack of features that I was starting to see in other keyboards.
I searched around and looked at a bunch of others, and installed TouchPal last night. Really getting to like it, and thinking I'd stick with it for a while -- and then saw that there's a NEW Swype beta out this week - what timing!
This one has a bunch of new features - you can intermix swyping, Flex T9, voice input on the fly; it can connect to your facebook, twitter and gmail accounts to pull names into your Swype dictionary, it now shows predictive text choices (similar, in fact, to TouchPal), etc.
Still wish I could choose Google's own "voice to text" option that, in ICS, shows your text as you speak -- that's not an option yet in Swype -- hopefully in the next version. But for now - this appears like a nice new upgrade, so I'm not complaining.
Still not positive yet this will wind up preferred over TouchPal -- I'll be trying both over the next several days. But it's definitely worth a try.
Sorry - don't have the link handy, but you can search for "beta" and Swype and find it easily enough. If you currently have the last beta installed, it will, sometime over the next 72 hours, prompt you to download the new version. But if you're impatient like me, you can uninstall the old Swype installer and beta APK, go back to the Swype beta page and re-download the installer -- which gets you the new one right away, and use it to pull down the new version of Swype beta.

Just started using it here. to early to say what I think of the improvements

Me too... was out at a couple of stores and wound up texting and having to answer a few emails so I got to exercise it a bit, but not enough yet to draw any conclusions. I DO still find it irritating that they haven't come up with a better way to deal with auto-spacing after a period. As I recall, TouchPal actually *does* auto-space after a period, which made it a bit more irritating when I switched back to this new Swype beta and ran into the same old issue...
On the other hand - don't know if it's my imagination, but it seems to be interpreting my input more accurately than the older beta - don't know if that's real or not, though. I'll have a much better sense of this, and TouchPal, after the next few days of use.

Wasn't aware of that ICS feature, that's awesome. Really must upgrade.

No more delete word, which was useful in the last beta. Also it doesn't seem to be able to use the old user dictionary, which is a real drag.
For those of you who have Swype preinstalled and you want the beta, if you're rooted, you can use Titanium to uninstall the preinstalled one. Then the beta will install fine (otherwise, it will say you do not qualify -- how rude!).
It also can't seem to login to Twitter successfully, so maybe they're still working on that (or were when I used it).
So far feels like a step back.

I can't seem to download the new swype. Can someone upload the apk?

Swiftkey just released their version 3 final. I had tried Swype in the past and much prefer Swiftkey, especially on ICS.

Must admit SwiftKey is a lot faster than swype especially the typing and stuff..the new one is flawless

Wouldn't mind having a copy of swype myself have had issues downloading it myself.

With the latest version it got stuck once. After some time it recovers back.

I like that sony preinstalls a swype like feature on theyre xperia keyboard
But i will give it a try

I love the new app but DAMN ITS A MEMORY HOG!

Here is an unmodified copy to verify my claim with http://rapidgator.net/file/19834479/5809.apk.html

They got rid of only supporting several resolutions, so it should now work on all devices. The HP Touchpad has an unusual resolution among Android tablets of 1024x768 as its an unofficial android device and up until now nothing from Swype ever worked fully on it.
Now it works great including tablet mode which allows you to shrink the keyboard down to a phone sized keyboard. This makes it so you don't have to swipe all the way across your screen which can slow your speed down on a 10" tablet.

Downloaded it yesterday and works great on my Galaxy S2.. it is a bit of a memory hog though as stated above.

Interesting new Swype beta, BUT it has seriously annoying issues, especially on the Galaxy Nexus:
1. It doesn't transfer your old dictionary to your new dictionary and there is apparently no easy way to do it. All the work we've put into our dictionaries on our current Swype versions is lost. We have to start again from scratch! This is seriously stupid.
2. There is no button to use Google voice recognition mechanism. Instead it uses Dragon Dictate. This really sucks because Google associates our voice patterns with our accounts and is constantly improving its recognition based on our past usage. If we have to use Dragon Dictate for voice dictation, we lose this benefit.
3. The new Jelly Bean software is very dependent on voice recognition and improves it efficacy over time with more usage. Without an option to use the Google voice recognition, we lose out on the benefits of Google Now!
I love Swype because it allows me to type really fast. But I won't remain loyal to it if it impedes the overall user experience of my phone.

Accuracy is way down. Many words it can't recognize. Swyping from the Swype button to 5 doesn't always bring up the number pad anymore, and Swyping from comma to space inserts .com so that adds work.
It seems like Swype is less concerned with accuracy than before.
Swyped from my Motorola Electrify using Tapatalk

I wasn't thrilled at losing my dictionary and having to start over...but I've actually found that it seems to learn and improve very quickly. I also gave it access to my facebook, twitter and gmail accounts. At this point it seems incredibly accurate -- far more than the last version. I'm Swyping faster than ever with virtually no need to go back and make corrections. I do wish it would allow the option of using Google's own voice input that we can get the benefit of a dictionary shared across all input modes. I'll have to consider this as I start to play with JB over the next few weeks. Not ready to give up Swype yet -- still, by far, the best text input I've used, despite a LOT of experimentation with others.

6-19-11 Apps Confirmed Working on [CDMA] / [GSM] Honeycomb Alpha 2.5

Hey guys! Due to the massive amount of PM requests I've gotten for Honeycomb-specific apps, that work on Spacemoose's 3.0 build, I decided to just start this repo thread.
I desperately need a GSM Tab owner(s) to test any and all of the apps listed, so I can update each review, as far as what build each app works on, especially now that we've split into two separate Dev threads!!
Thanks to Spacemoose1 for breaking her back to get CDMA owners, and to ssserpentine for bringing GSM Tab owners, working ports of 3.0. If you haven't donated to their efforts, I'd certainly suggest doing so.
GSM Tab owners: check out ssserpentine's thread (with full Spacemoose approval) in the link provided, and don't hesitate to hit the "Thanks" button, to recognize all their hard work in getting a working port ready for your devices!!

Ok, on to the apps. I'm going to try to present this in as clear a manner as possible, giving a screenshot and brief description for each app. I encourage anyone who has found additional files (NO WAREZ PLEASE!), to please post them. Try to follow the layout I've set up, so people can actually see and know what they're downloading. The reason being is that there are a decent number of HC specific apps, but they're lacking in variety; many apps (ie. Social or News apps) manage to accomplish the exact same thing, and it sucks to download a redundant app. So, here we go guys, enjoy!
** IMPORTANT** - It's been brought to my attention that some of these apps (those that I got from the Amazon store) may require the Amazon Store app in order to install. I have NO idea why, but, PLEASE, download the Amazon apk just in case. Sorry for the inconvenience guys.

A nice app with a clean, bright UI, and accurate forecasting. It runs, no problem, and the widget is nicely rendered as well. Until we get GPS functionality, the app can't run in "follow me" mode, so just set up locations manually - it's really easy. It's a huge file though, so be prepared to lose some SD space.

Battleheart - Mika Mobile (46MB)
While not designed specifically for tablet devices, the simple fact that this game has zero on-screen controls, makes it (imo), perfect for devices like the SGT. Battleheart is a fun, involving, and surprisingly in-depth RPG/Strategy/Beat-em-up game, with a quick learning curve, very low load times, and some beautifully rendered watercolor-type graphics. This is perfect for killing time on the train or bus, and isn't graphic enough to be kept away from the kids either. At $2.99, I'd say the game is a good value. Sorry for the crummy picture... I guess Drocap isn't spectacular with action shots. The screen and characters render flawlessly!
*This app does not show up in the market, as of the Spacemoose 2.5 build, so I downloaded it from Amazon. Simply download and install the Amazon Store apk near the top of the OP, sign up for a free account, and search for the app; you won't be disappointed.
Catch Notes - Catch.com (1.54MB)
A really neat little app here, and a surprisingly deep one. Catch lets you set, tag, and share notes, pictures, videos, etc. to and from your computer, and with friends and family, via Facebook, Twitter, Buzz, and a lot more! At first glance, Catch seems to have potential to be one of those productivity apps you can't do without, especially if you're always on the go.

CNBC: Real Time for Android - NBC Universal, Inc. (3.0MB)
If you work in finance, like I do, or simply follow the markets regularly, you may have been disappointed at the lack of a good, comprehensive market app. Now that we have 3.0 on our Tabs, those worries can end; CNBC: Real Time gives you full market coverage (and can be customized to suit your needs), a real-time stock ticker, market news from across the globe, and a nice, compact widget for your homescreen. I've been using the Scrollable Stock widget app for a while now, and I've tried Bloomberg and several others, but I have to say that this app trumps them all. It's available in the market if you search for it, but in case you can't find it, or your pre-release GSM build doesn't have the market included, the apk is below. Go get it, you've got a real blue chip here!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/downloadfile-1.apk
CNN App for Android Tablet - CNN (1.47MB)
The CNN app is, by far, the most flawed app on this list. It's really disappointing because the market screenshots look gorgeous. Trying to launch the app from the drawer will get you a force close every time, but it's made up for by having a really slick, auto-scrolling stack widget, that WILL allow you to access news articles, as long as you have an active internet connection. If you have a CNN account, you can log in and post comments to your articles of interest as well. Can't wait for full functionality!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/com.cnn.mobile.android.tablet-1.apk
DroidIris - Alexandre Delattre (298.26KB)
This app may end up making it into my list of "must-haves", I like it that much! Listen, how annoying is it to search for images on Google??! It's kind of a process, and scrolling down, through pages of irrelevant junk is just tedious, right!? DroidIris solves the issue, by acting as a one-stop-shop for searching, not just Google, but Bing, Yahoo, and other browsers, for the best web-based images and photos. The UI is smooth and sexy as well, with fly-in/out transitions, and quick searching. You might just find yourself never using your computer to look for pictures ever again!

Etch n Sketch - PX Inc. (572.73KB)
For those of you who tend to wax nostalgic from time to time, here's a blast from the past! I remember wasting countless frustrating hours, attempting to "master" the Etch-a-Sketch, as a child, and now I can live out that early childhood trauma all over again! This app, while not Honeycomb specific by any means, could prove fun, especially if you have young kids. Road trips, grocery shopping, or "staying out of your hair", while sitting on the couch, this app could end up saving you headaches... unless you feel like taking your Tab back, and attempting a masterpiece of your own... then, all bets are off!

File Manager for Tablets (GoAruna) - Aruna Labs (3.6MB)
Ever wonder what would happen if Dropbox and Root Explorer got together and had a kid? Well, this is it; Aruna Labs has cooked up a file management app that (with a free web account), will allow you to seamlessly back up your files online. No more searching for an apk in Root Explorer, then sending it to Dropbox, and waiting for it to upload... GoAruna does it all from one interface! The free online account gives you 2GB of space, and expanded, paid options are available; I will personally be using this to store zip files from my psx emulator, since they don't run on Honeycomb. This will allow me to quickly free up at least another 1.5GB of SD space, and could do the same for you! Free in the market, but the apk is right here! Enjoy.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/file.manager.tablet.goaruna-1.apk
File Manager HD (Honeycomb) - Rhythm Software (1.07MB)
A nicely designed file manager app. If you're used to Astro, you'll probably love this. With cut, copy, paste, and cancel process options, and a couple different views to choose from, navigating your files is a breeze! It's nothing mind-blowing... it does what it's supposed to, and does it while looking good!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/File%20Manager%20HD_1.1.4.apk
File Station Tablet - Farago Software (551KB)
The third, and final file manager I plan on covering here, but that is no indication as to File Station's relevance on this list. While it doesn't give you the online storage options that some others do, what FS brings you is a clean, simple UI, easy navigation, drag and drop options (much more convenient than copy and pasts, imo), and a visually appealing interface. If you've been a long-standing fan of Astro, I highly suggest looking into this; it just works, and works well! Free in the market, and as always, the apk is below!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/com.farago.filestationtablet-1.apk
FriendCaster Tab for Facebook - Handmark (8.54MB)
I know you love that background don't you?! Right, this app was one of the first ones I found, and I absolutely love it! It runs smooth, has a clean, customizable UI, lets you comment, like, and view updates all in one spot. Best of all, it doesn't force close like the stock app is very prone to do. My only complaint it that the auto-scrolling stack widget is a bit too small, but in my opinion, this is a must have app!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/FriendCaster.apk
Google Body - Google Inc. (17.02MB)
It's hard to go wrong when downloading a Google app, and this is no different. Body is fantastic to play around with, and the fact that you basically have a human anatomy book in the palm of your hand, is just ridiculous. That said, unless you're a pre-med student, or just love messing around with random apps, you'll probably never find a viable reason to use this. It still looks cool though!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/Body_1.0.apk
Grocery iQ - Tablet - Coupons.com Inc. (8.80MB)
Initially, I only downloaded and tested this because it's a Honeycomb specific app; I don't really have a use for it, but I have to say, I might give it a go. The layout is clean, and easy to navigate, you can get location specific coupons for a plethora of different items, and you can create quick, customized shopping lists (with product pictures and other options) for each store you shop at! In the end, I decided to include this because 1) it works flawlessly, and 2) because I KNOW somebody out there is going to get very excited about having this app on their Tab!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/com.coupons.GroceryIQ.Tablet-1.apk
Maxthon Mobile for 10" Tablet - Maxthon (2.20MB)
Maxthon browser was something I'd never seen before, and seeing as how they made a tablet specific (albeit NOT 3.0 specific! ) version, I decided to give it a whirl. The layout is a bit lacking, especially when compared to Dolphin Browser HD, or even the stock browser, but the browser's real strength lies (imo) in its homescreen interface, which boasts 42 fully customizable quick links. The general UI is surprisingly good, and seems to have clearly been designed for thumb navigation, with important functions just off the edge of the screen, for easy access. I'm going to stick with Dolphin HD for now, mainly because I'm used to it, it's fast, and the new Fire UI (in blue of course) looks fantastic with Honeycomb, but I do have to say that I'd love to see some of Maxthon's layout configurations become standard for tablet specific browsers.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/mbt10.apk
News360 for Tablets - News360 LLC (1.69MB)
Snappy, versatile, and clean, News360 really does the job! The layout is nice, and navigation is intuitive and interactive (fly-in animations, full screen previews, etc.). The ONLY drawback I see to this app is the fact that the stack widget is huge, at 4x5, and doesn't seem to like to always stay active. Nonetheless, this app is stellar... another one I'd add to my "must haves" list.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/com.news360.news360tablet-1.apk
Newsr - Locomo Labs (239.86KB)
Newsr looks simplistic and unassuming, and you know what... it is. That's not necessarily a bad thing though. Here's the premise; sign in with your email address, and get all your RSS feeds beamed down to your Tab. The app does just that, but choose a feed, click on an article, and then hit the little "eye" icon in the upper right, and the related article flies in instantly. The lack of load times is always important for anyone on the go, but if you use another app, like my6sense, you may not find a use for this app. It's solid, but needs to be a bit more dynamic to catch my attention.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/NewsrHD_Legion.apk
Plume for Twitter - LevelUp Studio (1.92MB)
The artist formerly known as Touiteur, Plume resurfaced with a new UI, boasting a good amount of customization options. While not Honeycomb specific, they have altered the layout and UI to be tablet friendly, and it shows. The premise is basic... read your friend's tweets, leave your own, get direct messages, yada yada... but at least you can look good doing it. In my opinion, Plume isn't going to blow you away (the widgets are Sense-like scrollable widgets, and don't take advantage of the new technology or hardware real estate), but it's a nice app, with some nice features.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/Plume.apk
Tablet Wallpapers - Mobile Spy (2.70MB)
I know how frustrating it is to have a shiny, "new" SGT with Honeycomb, and not being able to find wallpapers that fit well in landscape mode. Zedge has a couple, but not many, and searching online is a crapshoot, both in terms of quantity, and quality. Tablet Wallpapers solves the issue, by delivering nothing but top-notch, high quality wallpapers, designed specifically for landscape mode tablets. I can't say enough about this app... the UI is slick, the search options are vast, and the wallpaper quality is stellar. If you want a replacement for your old wallpaper app, go get this... you'll love it!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/com.tabletapps.wallpapers-1.apk
TuneIn Radio - TuneIn Inc. (1.30MB)
Another of my favorite "on-the-go" apps here. TuneIn gives you a plethora of radio options, from sports to music, politics to food, and it's free!! Yes, there is a paid version in the market as well, but I don't personally need it. I can get my ESPN Radio shows in the morning, on my way to work, and catch my Seattle Mariners broadcasts at night, so I'm a happy camper. If you're on the go a lot, and want a little variety in your life (TuneIn offers language-specific broadcasts as well!), check this out! No need to pay subscription prices for satellite radio, when you've got everything you need in the palm of your hand!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/tunein.player-2.apk
Tweetcomb - Locomo Labs (281.71KB)
Like the name suggests, Tweetcomb was designed specifically for Android 3.0, and it shows! With an attractive UI, intuitive interface, and some nice customization options, this app does Twitter the way it was meant to be done. Look, an app has to be good when the only flaw I can find with it is that it doesn't have a widget ! Hopefully, Locomo will take care of the issue though. Another A+ app!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/BlackDroidTweetComb11.apk
WeatherBug for Honeycomb - WeatherBug by Earth Networks (2.46MB)
Get f'ing excited, because I know I am! This app was ripped straight from the SGT 10.1 system dump, but I couldn't get it to work until today. As such, it was a last-minute inclusion to the list, and I have to say, one of my personal favorites. With the AccuWeather app clocking in at a mammoth 46MB, while WB is only at 2.5MB, it makes it a no-brainer for me, as far as storage space goes. Not to mention.... look at that UI!!! It's clearly custom made for Honeycomb, and I'm really glad I got it to run (again though, no GPS means no "follow me" functionality). Adding locations is a breeze, and if there's one real complaint I have, it's that the widget is awful, especially when you see the care that went into designing the UI.
**To get the app to run without force-closing, go to the main Settings menu, and click on Location and Security. Then, click the "Google location search" box, and when the pop-up window comes up, tap Disagree. Then go into the app, and in the pop-up box, uncheck the bottom option (I believe it's an "Enable Location" option; you can leave the background updates on, and the app should run just fine.**

Webport HD: Travel and Hotels - Webport.com (1.40MB)
Do you travel a lot, or are you planning a vacation for the family? Don't spend extra time scouring website after website, comparing airline and hotel prices, because Webport HD will do it for you! Designed specifically for Honeycomb, Webport HD brings you a super nice, all-in-one search engine for both airfare and lodging, allowing you to instantly compare locations and rates, and make the best decision quickly. While you can't book flights or rooms directly through Webport, they do provide the contact information to you, so you can get on the phone and make reservations, while looking at the information on your Tab! The UI is simple, and getting search results is accurate and fast... what more could you want?! We live in an age of convenience people, why would you want to waste more time than you have to? If you're a travel nut, get awesome with Webport!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/webport.com-1.apk
Wizz (Colorize Widget HD) - SnowBEE (1.1MB)
SnowBEE has brought us great widget packs before, but I have to say that this takes the cake. Formatted exclusively for Android 3.0+, Wizz brings your social networking and agenda widgets to the next level! While this IS a trial version (Pro version is in the works), and can be found in the market for free, it offers such a nice variety of widget designs, that it's almost impossible not to recommend this app. I do have some issues with the themes not sticking, and (up until last night) all the widgets, with the exception of the calendar, would set off the "Strict mode" red border in this build. With that issue corrected now, the widgets look and perform flawlessly, and will give an added dimension to any homescreen. I have no qualms about saying that I WILL be purchasing this when it goes Pro, but until then, the free version does the trick.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22585959/ColorizeWidgetHD1.4.1.apk
**If you too need a fix for the red border, check the post from ssserpentine, below. This solution worked instantly for me, and I've had no issues since!**

So there it is guys... my shortlist of apps that I was able to compile last night. I'll add more as I find them, and like I said earlier, feel free to post your own finds, as long as they're free apps. Just try to follow my formula if you can, with a pic of the app screen, and your thoughts on its functionality etc. That's it guys... thanks for stopping bye, and again a huge thank you to Spacemoose1, without whom, our Tabs would still be stuck in the dark ages!
tnx buddy , i got 1 question , i think the links you post are there for every apps u post here right , my question is , is in any way that 1 of your apps are pay versions ?

I didn't think so, since I got the majority of them off of the Amazon Market for free and the apk downloads I got elsewhere were double-checked against the official listings in the Android Market, so everything should be good. I certainly don't want to be posting paid apps, so if you let me know which one you're talking about, I'll take it down right away!!

Thanks a ton for this.
No problem guys. I've been following Space's thread since the day it went up, and I've seen how excited everyone is getting, but honestly, it kinda sucked to have a shiny new UI, and no good apps to put on it, nor the market access to get them. Having a few of these apps on my Tab makes it more usable on an every day level, for me anyway. Considering the only 3.0 app w/ widget that made it into the build was YouTube (which is broken for me), I wanted something more... something that could really show off the firmware, so I went apk hunting, and decided to spread the wealth. I hope you guys enjoy what I've found so far!
thx a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot !!!!
now i'm waiting for GSM version
like i said in PM, really great! nice and thorough
thanks again
It's my pleasure guys, really. I want everyone's first Honeycomb experience to be a good one. As soon as I get a couple more "every day" apps posted (and as soon as we get audio into a build), I'll start testing a couple of games. We might be stuck on that though, since a lot of the very best games seem to be Dual Core (Tegra) reliant, but I'll check.

This is a great thread, nice idea
One thing, have you tried Google Books? Is it on the Market? And is YouTube as sexy as it looked in the promo videos?

Yeah, I tried installing the books.apk from both the Xoom and SGT 10.1 dumps, but no luck I'm going to rip the one out of my Liquid Gingerbread build next, and see if it will fire up. YouTube has been hit or miss for me, honestly. I can't launch the app directly, without getting a fc, but the widget does work, and will take you to the appropriate video, and yes, the UI looks fantastic! I can't wait for full functionality! That's another issue though... I haven't been able to get video to play reliably at all (have Flash 10.3 installed too), but I'm sure Space will get everything sorted.

Didn't even realise there were 10.1 dumps Haha. I know there's a 1.1.4 version floating around the internet, but when the Xoom dump leaked, I looked inside and everything was a Tablet variant. Haven't looked since, but maybe that could gibe some clues.
Possibly one of the things I'm looking forward to most is that wall of videos It looks fantastic. I'm sure they'll all be ironed out in future builds, burning guess GSM support is taking full priority.

Yeah, it seems Space is really pushing hard to get a GSM build out of repo and on to the download page! It looks like Alpha 2 isn't even going to drop for GSM though, since Space is working on the next release, and she said that she'll try to release both v3 versions at the same time. I'm hoping audio and GPS at least get ironed out in the build, but we'll see. The suspense is part of the fun of flashing alpha builds!
And I agree, the YouTube carousel is (imo) one of the best UI overhauls I've ever seen! I can't wait to actually play with it!
**Oh, and the 10.1 dump is from I/O... I found it a couple weeks ago. It's really similar to the Xoom, but with extra apps (gotta love Samsung bloatware!). The only reason I downloaded it was to post it on Space's thread, in the hopes that she could use it in her builds. If you want it though, I can throw it up here for you.
App Update
**Added 3 new apps to the OP; Catch Notes, DroidIris, and Etch n Sketch**
# Fuze will be included as soon as our devices get data connectivity, since the app requires a phone number to use.
Important update in op!
It was just brought to my attention by luke1333 that some of the apps listed, may need the Amazon App Store app in order to install properly. I'm totally bemused by this, considering they ARE apk files after all. Even though I did get some of them from the Amazon store, I was not expecting the files to have Amazon specific permissions!!
In light of that development, I've added the required apk to the TOP of the OP. Sorry if that issue has caused anybody any inconvenience.

[APP] Android Troper 0.12 (Tvtropes.org app) (Updated June 20th)

With the unfortunate demise of "Droid Tropes", the (previously) only "TvTropes" app, I was feeling in need. I also wanted to learn how to write Android apps.
So I created "Android Troper" (originally named "This Troper" and re-named due to community objections):

This is my first app so don't expect anything brilliant. It's currently 'working' at best, and I'm still learning.
That being said, I would love to hear comments, ideas and bug reports, all at our Google+ page!

I'll give this a try and report in.
Edit: okay, quick first impressions and issues.
It looks pretty basic, graphically speaking. That's not necessarily a bad thing though.
You might want to add a default search bar to the first page. Took me a second to realize I had to hit menu to do anything.
I force closed (twice at once, oddly) when I tapped on the hidden text to try to make it appear.

Thanks, I'll look into it. I am planning an introduction page instead of the current loading of the home page.
When you hit hidden text - which page was it in?
Thankyou for making this app! I've been wanting to be able to read TvTropes on my phone for a while and I missed out on DroidTropes.
Works well on my Galaxy S II, I'm able to reveal spoilers without a FC and it works pretty smooth. May I suggest in future version to possibly add a quick scroll (where you can hold the scroll bar and scroll much faster) so you can jump around pages quicker? It's not necessary but it would be a nice addition.
This app is off to a great start, I look forward to future releases.

Honestly I've been trying to enable quickscroll from day 1 but I can't seem to get it to work. It gets really annoying on long pages (and most of them are :-/)
Thanks for the feedback! Please let me know if it errors/fc's!
Excellent work.
I like it!
Smaller text size support would be nice.
Hey everyone and thanks for trying my app
I just posted a small update which enables 'Actionbar' (thanks to ActionBarSherlock) and makes the app 100% ICS compatible (including phones with no dedicated 'menu' button). Also easier to read the title and/or access functions.
Hope you like it, looking forward for some feedback!
Also, my next planned feature is a welcome screen, to those who asked.
Cheers
0.2α: Download Here
Added 'Actionbar' - now fully ICS compatible (cross platform as well thanks to Action Bar Sherlock)
Removed the application name from the header (to save space, don't need it now with the Actionbar)
Great to see it being updated quickly. Two things however. It seems asterisks which reveal additional information are click able but don't actually show the information. Also there doesn't seem to be any way to access the subpages of whatever article you are on (YMMW, Fridge etc). Perhaps you could put a button in the action bar which would produce a drop down list for the sub pages available for the current page?
Keep up the good work

Thanks for the info.
Regarding the asterisks, I completely forgot that was a thing. I'll add it in the next version (Can you give me a link to a page that has it so I don't get lost in the site? )
As for the subpages, I was considering it, but it slipped my mind. I'll add it to the list
Thanks for helping!
I'm too addicted to tabbed browsing to actually use it (like to open few links in background while reading an article), but I tested it for a while and didn't found any problems. I think that there are people that will find it useful - good job .
I believe there is an asterisk at the top of the Futurama page. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/WesternAnimation/Futurama?from=Main.Futurama (right underneath the picture.)
Glad to be of assistance. I agree tabbed browsing would be nice but I imagine its not high on your to do list.
Tabbed browsing is an obvious feature to want in a TvTropes app (as the attached comic demonstrates) but it's way over my capabilities (also will probably destroy your RAM and battery ). Instead, I'm going to create a 'read later' list like there was in the 'Droid Tropes' app - I found it rather useful.
Tip: If you want to know what a link leads to (names of links in TVTropes can be confusing) long-press it, the popup's title will be the link's target.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! Opera Mobile just doesn't cut it for tvtropes.
Could use some more features to bring it up to speed with the old DroidTropes app. However, this is still a beta and you're still learning. In light of that... 5/5, man.
I will definitely be spreading word of this. Thank you again.

Thanks for info - that was one of the things that I missed too, good to know that it is implemented, but I just didn't know how to use it .
I don't think that tabbed browsing would destroy battery. Still, RAM consumption could be rather high, but only if you would load page just after clicking and opening in background. As alternative, you can add it to tab list, but don't actually load it unless it's activated. Apart from that, you can also unload pages opened in background but inactive for long time (when amount used up ram is too high). To save bandwidth, unloaded pages can be saved in temporary files instead of just being removed from memory. Of course, these are just hints that may be useful if you'll want to implement it one day. "To read" list may work just as well as tabbed browsing.

Can you remember which page and/or text caused it to FC?
Thanks!
Just finished writing the next version. Need to stress-test it a little before I let it out to the world, but the main new feature (other than Asterisks support) is that on pages with sub-pages (name-spaces) a submenu will appear in the menu with links to all sub-pages.
Tomorrow morning (it's 2:24 AM ) I'll give it one last test, a good cleanup, and let you guys have at it.
If everything's as planned, for the next version after that I'll have a new welcome screen, and hopefully - though I'm promising nothing yet - 'read later'.
See ya guys tomorrow!
Update: Version 0.2β is up.
Changelog:
Added hidden 'additional information' support (asterisks) - thanks to Blackadder18
Added support for 'Sub-Pages' (in the menu, where available) - thanks to Blackadder18
Bugs squashed:
No longer cancels loading on touch
Slight improvement to error-handling
Some minor behind-the-scenes code adjustments.
New Known Issues:
Some 'sub-pages' may not parse correctly and throw an error. Please report those in this thread and/or the 'Issues' tab in the Google-code website.

Have a great weekend everybody, I'll continue work next week after I've done some studying. Math's a b*tch.

Background
I use Google Voice as my primary number, and it's been frustrating that Google has failed to add very many interesting (necessary?) features to their Google Voice app. In addition, they don't have a public API, so it's difficult for developers to work with it. I've been searching for solutions all over the interwebz since Google Voice was Grand Central.
I've been using this app for a few weeks, and have since reached out to the dev, offering help with testing and offer to possibly work with him on design aspects in the future.
Why I think this app is great
• One app to manage your SMS messages (Carrier & Google Voice)
• Google Voice popups and quick reply without another 3rd party app
• Uses your stock messaging database to store messages (backup apps work)
• Very nice to have a Google Voice alternative that actually works
The Futurree
In speaking with the developer, once all bugs are ironed out, he's got plans for future theme addons, more popup options, GV Message sync (difficult).. and possibly *optional* FB Messenger and Twitter DM integration. I've already themed myself a version which I'll post up.
The developer will also be adding LightFlow support soon.
Important Details
The app is a TRIAL, and subsequently is available through in-app purchase.
I'm posting this because I know you hardcore GV users would probably like to check this out... and we all know that Google Play store discovery is still terrible.
Current Bugs
The only bug I've encountered is, when a message is sent while in Landscape mode, it will be sent through your carrier. The dev has acknowledged this and it should be fixed within the next day or two. If you're on Gingerbread, it should work fine, but feel free to chime in if you have issues.
I've also read that MMS may have issues, especially if you're trying to send directly from the Gallery.

Hope you guys enjoy this as much as I am.
My Inverted version of the app:
I'll add screen shots later.
You'll need to uninstall your current version (don't worry about backing up data.. Will be resynced).
Download inverted
Mod edit: Link removed
Note, you won't receive play store updates for this app if you have the inverted version installed, but I'll usually have it updated within hours after a new ver drops.
very nice, will try it out.
Tried it and it's a no-joy for me
I have a Samsung GT-i9100 International (SIM Free) with a pay-as-you-go AT&T GoPhone sim in it.
I just put Android 4.1.2 I9100XWLSE_I9100OXELS6_ALO.zip (I know how to use Odin, etc) and rooted it with CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip thru recovery and off the sd card. Works perfect, not I can us my TB Pro w/root on the phone,
and I got the phone working sweet (I am in the USA and did not want to wait for a OTA or KIES upgrade)
I have GrooVe IP to use Google Voice to make/receive calls over 3G/H+and avoid the $1.00 a day and $0.10 a min AT&T charges.
I text thru GV too. I only give out my GV # because honestly why would I use the carriers # and pay to use a regular phone.
I have looked all over to integrate the native text app into GV and I read that this app would do it.
It does not (for me). I basically have a stock ROM rooted with a IP telephone program on it and the data packages are $25 for 1 GB and then I buy a 5MB package for $5 every 30 days and the amount rolls over. So a cell phone for $5 a month, yeah, on AT&T, YEAH! but this app does not integrate with the stock/plain messaging app.
I have followed all the instruction, disable notifications, etc. as listed on the PLAY store and the website.
It is (from what I can tell) work with 4.1.2 because the screen shots he's got up there do not look like the one's I have and I did not see anywhere that it asked to use GV for native SMS.
So maybe someone has seen this, done this and got it working......
any info?
thanks
philmiami
ok I guess I figured it out
This does NOT integrate into the EXISTING text app. It is separate entirely. So I just move the icon for the stock one from the menu bar and put this one down here. Disable in GV like it says and it works as described....
Guess i should have spent more time with it, good thing I got 3 different cell phones to work with to implement this.
I really want to save my $0.20 per message
PS:
Got it working it just replaces the native messaging app, works with GV and bam......free SMS :good::good::good:

Interesting. Those of us using GV have but few choices indeed. I haven't looked yet so questions might be answered elsewhere I suppose. Still..
How does this app know about new texts? Does it check directly or does it rely on GV notification?
Are the popups user definable? (Droid Notify comes to mind)
Is there a repeat reminder option? (Droid Notify comes to mind)
How much memory does it require while monitoring events? Is it a service or can it be easily terminated by the minfree manager?
How long is the trial?
I gotta go and read more before asking more questions..

I'm replying with Tapa talk, so bare with me
1. AFAIK, the app is dependent on the Google Voice app, which needs to be installed and configured. (See play store notes). It does not rely on GV notification, though.
2-3.Popups are not yet user definable, but I've spoken with the developer and have suggested this. Options in droid notify, notifierpro, and light flow are my inspiration
4. Memory as a cached process right now is 14MB. I'd have to check ROM Toolbox to see the actual events, but compared to other apps I've tried, it's relatively light and doesn't require extensive permissions. FWIW, I'm using a Note2.
5. The original trial was a small number of messages. I talked to the dev and he extended it. It could still be longer and I'm going to push for that. I bought it the first day tho.. I actually paid $8 . Lol. I highly recommended he lower it, and he did.. But totally worth it for me either way.
Hope that answers your questions

Sounds good. Although I do like the Droid Notify popups I can live with a simple taskbar notification. What is important (to me) is the ability to set reminders for every X minutes, ideally different first sms and voicemail. If the dev would consider adding a missed call reminder as well I could take another app out.
4. Memory as a cached process right now is 14MB. I'd have to check ROM Toolbox to see the actual events, but compared to other apps I've tried, it's relatively light and doesn't require extensive permissions. FWIW, I'm using a Note2.

Not too bad, especially if I can remove or even or two things. I am on an HTC HD2 which is a bit memory starved with everything I am doing.

Those must have Apps that make life more enjoyable on your device

I was curious what the killer, must install apps are for everyone. I am not talking about Facebook, Instagram, or system apps that allow for rooting or managing space, but the Apps that make your life on your device much more enjoyable.
I will share mine:
1- Go Launcher. I love this System. Highly customizable and easily usable.

2- 1 Tap Quick Bar. This adds a quick launch bar at the bottom of the pull-down menu. Available anywhere you are in Android. I keep stuff like my Camera, a Calculator, a shopping list app, etc there.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rootuninstaller.onetap
3- Power Line. This simple app provides very light lines that indicate the various systems on your phone. I only use the power line, but there are a lot to choose from. Nice that it is always there, to see instantly what your levels are.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.urbandroid.inline
4- Link Bubble. A handy app that provides a quick way of opening links without leaving the app you are already in.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.linkbubble.license.playstore
5- Launch X. A great way of organizing app on your home screens. I use it in scrolling. Saves a lot of Home page space.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.yuvalsharon.android.launchx.free
Well that is it for now. These are the basic apps that I always use to make life more enjoyable and convenient in my various Android devices. How about you? What do you use and have to install?

Interesting.
I'm surprised to be saying this but Microsoft's Arrow launcher is a treat on the Note 5. Looks classy on the large screen and its focus on usage patterns works quite well for me.

Swiftkey is a MUST!
I came from Blackberry originally, and I got spoiled by the awesome word prediction and learning autocorrect. When I got my first Droid 2, I missed the smarter typing and I searched for a replacement. I bought SwiftKey when it was premium and never looked back. Through a Droid 3, RAZR HD, and now Note 5, it has learned how I type and saved me lots of embarrassment. And since I went premium back in the day, I get no ads. Ever.
If you're a family guy like me, Cozi Family Scheduler is also a must. With 2 teenagers, both spouses working, and all sorts of things to coordinate, Cozi makes it easy for all of us to stay on the same page without trying to flip through shared Google calendars. The widgets are useful on Note 5, but the typeface is very small on widgets.
In Australia currently the nova prime is only 20c I think it's best bargain app. Definitely worth it...been using it to replace touch wiz.

I hear good things about SwiftKey. I tried it a few months ago, and never really got a good feel for it myself.

My brother uses and swears by Nova.
One of the reasons I prefer Android over iOS is the way that you can highly customize your phone/tablet to your desires.
Now I know this one also require the hardware...but I do recommend getting one.
I just got my gear vr...and it's really cool. My kids love them. There are a lot of free download too just like in playstore.

There are all kinds of Widgets available for these
Tasker. I freaking love this app. It automates almost everything on my phone:
-Silences my ringer and notification volume when I set the phone face down.
-When I receive a text, my TTS engine says "Sir, you have received a message from %sender" and if the contact isn't stored in my contact list, it replaces the %sender variable with "an unknown person"
-When I leave the house, it turns off my wifi, turns my ringtone and notification volume up, and turns Bluetooth on, but if Bluetooth doesn't connect in 7 minutes, it turns back off again
-When I get to work, it sets my phone on silent and texts my wife one of 5 random messages letting her know I'm at work
-When I get back home, it turns wifi back on and connects, speaks "welcome home, sir" and turns my notification and ringtone volume down a bit
-In the morning when I dismiss my alarm, it speaks one of 3 random "good morning" messages, and then proceeds to read off the weather for the day, tells me how many appointments I have, what they are, and when.
-When I plug headphones in, it displays a popup menu of apps that I use with my headphones (Pandora, youtube, any of my emulators)
-Controls my GPS so that it's only on when I need it, like navigating with Google maps or taking location-tagged photos, and then turns it back off when I'm done
-Reboots my phone once a week to keep the OS fresh.
There is literally nothing you can't do with this app and its plugins. I recommend it for everyone. Super steep learning curve, but there are tons of tutorials on line. 10000% worth the $3 it costs.
easyHome by @Jawomo
With easyHome you don't have to press your homebutton anymore! Just touch it slightly like on screen navigation buttons!!
Experience your Galaxy in a completely new way!
No clicking noise, no hard pressing! Easy, intuitive yet awesome!
Extend the homebutton functionality if you like and lock your phone with a touch!

That was the idea lol. The nerd in me went and found the TTS engine that sounded the most like Iron Man's Jarvis, William from CereProc, and every time I program a speak action, I try and imagine how Jarvis would say it. I wanted my phone to be as much like a personal assistant as I could make it.
I also plan on creating a task so that, when I'm in the car and I receive a text, Jarvis will tell me that a text was received and ask if I want him to read it to me. If I reply "yes" he'll read the message then ask if I want to respond but if I reply "no" he'll ask if I want to be reminded of the text when I'm not driving. If I reply "yes" to responding, He'll listen for me to speak the message and then send it. If I reply "yes" to the reminder, when I get out of the car, he'll say "Sir, you still have # unread text message(s)"
I also want to do something similar with calls.
All you need is Tasker, AutoVoice and maybe AutoInput and AutoNotification.

I lost my clipboard button!

Hello there.
I have lost my clipboard button that appears when you hold over a blank space. I tried looking up the issue and what people are saying mostly samsung did something in android 12 which disables it on third party keyboards. These post I read are mostly dated from 8 months ago. But i've had that clipboard button since android 12 released and only lost it this morning!
it was still able to appear on the Samsung Keyboard but now just when I was about to post here it dissapeared from the samsung keyboard as well. Now the only way I can access my clipboard is from enabling the keyboard toolbar on the samsung keyboard and hitting the clipboard icon.
The clipboard button has also been replaced with autofill which does not work on my phone it just repeats cannot autofill content.
Please somebody what must I do to get the clipboard button back. Here is a replication of what I did before I noticed it.
I was chatting on Revolt a chat app then it just dissapeared. I tried uninstalling the keyboard I was using "Unexpected Keyboard" then reinstalling on the latest version and previous version to no avail I still lost it. I switch to samsung keyboard used the clipboard button pasted something then switched back to Unexpected Keyboard. I check to see its still not back so I switch to samsung keyboard now it's gone from the samsung keyboard.
What should I do?
I would also like to clarify I have disabled software updates & OTA updates incase you thought it was possibly an ota that happened while I was sleeping.

Keep social media apps off the phone!!!
They are junkware at best, malware at worst.
Clear system cache from the boot menu.
Try in safe mode, does it work? If so find and delete the app that's causing this.
If not try clearing the cache (then data if that fails) from Samsung Keyboard, clipboard and any associated apps.
If you can't find it after a week or two and/or cry uncle, factory reset.

Social media apps aren't the cause of this. After restarting my phone it came back on the samsung keyboard.
But this won't appear on my other keyboard now. How can I get this back?

Something likely altered the User Data Partition data. Most likely a 3rd party app. If it's a user hidden setting finding it maybe fun
An adb edit might be able to fix it.
Best to keep the trashware off phone, load vetted apps only, and don't update if the OS/apps are fast, stable and fulfilling their mission. Otherwise this is the kind of crap that happens.
Play with it...

I havent installed any new apps and the only one I updated is the "Unexpected Keyboard".
A user hidden setting for the clipboard? I wouldn't know where to begin to look. But I don't see any of the sorts in the developer options. I also have system updates and ota disabled.

Try uninstalling Unexpected Keyboard... now you know how it got its name
Samsung Keyboard is the best in my opinion. Try setting the Samsung Keyboard as the default keyboard.
Before you try uninstalling carefully look through all its settings to see if you can find one that brings back the clipboard link. It's possible that even if the app caused the issue that uninstalling it won't fix it. Poorly coded apps can raise hell.
Samsung is notorious for their "hidden" menus. Samsung Keyboard has some funky toggles and minor glitches at times like the keyboard colors inverting
Hidden user settings aren't meant to be user accessible but apps and updates can easily modify them. Someone here probably knows the specific adb value but I don't. It's well buried.
Try some Google searches, add XDA to search this forum using Google search.
Like I said, you're holding the device, play with it.
Make sure you didn't inadvertently change the setting yourself.
That's how I solve 100% of my issues. Sometimes it takes a few days or even weeks... keep at it. The load on this N10+ is over 2yo still running fast and stable. When I see an issue which is rare, I chase it down and correct it rather than resort to a factory reset.

Well like I said I did uninstall it. I tried the same version and the previous version. Ive been using unexpected keyboard for a very long time and I have it on multiple devices they all have the clipboard still.
You may think the samsung keyboard is the best but I have my reasons for not using it simply telling me to just use it is not an answer to the problem its a deterrent. Try some google searches I have been searching thats why I came here and popped the question because after my searches I didn't find the answer which i wrote this in the first post btw. I'm holding the phone so play with it what do you think im doing just sitting idlely waiting for a response? Of course i'm going through everything.
Also have you ever used Unexpected Keyboard before? Your joke about it being called unexpected because its crappy is unwarranted especialy if you never used it before then you know nothing about it. Its a full virtual pc keyboard with ctrl, alt, fn & F1-F12 functionality plus more. With no tracking and its lightweight. Also I did check the settings again the only thingI ever changed on it was the theme from white to black horizontal and vertical padding from 4d to 1 & adjusted key spacing inbetween the keys thats all.
Don't knock it till you've tried it.

Back to what I was saying all my other devices that have unexpected keyboard are not experiencing the issue only my A53 5G is being affected today. As for a hidden menu I can't imagine there would be one just to hide the clipboard button from holding down. Then again anything is possible with Samsung.
I appreciate your comments but I am looking for a more definitve answer then the general assumptions and being told just use samsung keyboard. I will try clearing the system cache as you suggested as that's the only thing I haven't tried yet but I don't think this will work but i'm willing to try and will get back to you on how that goes.
Also you mentioned a adb edit do you know exactly what I would have to change and have you tried this yourself just to see if it does affect that clipboard button?

You got to admit it is sort of funny...
Unfortunately you may be the only one or just a few of the people who experienced this. A Google search will tell the tale. The more apps you add to the brew, the more that can go wrong.
Play with it, Google specific questions based on what you're experiencing. That's all I do, then play with it more until you find the root cause. Get/use specific tools you need to help find it.
It can be a lengthy process.
Or find a work around. Do you have Samsung Edge clipboard? If not try that.
Try this search: "samsung clipboard not working", etc.
Samsung members forum might have an answer.
In Android 12 IU 4.0 clipboard needs to be turned on in settings. So secure... it's useless.
