Swype gone for good??

So my "trial" period is over. I've tried deleting and installing different apk's and it still says I need to upgrade. Does this mean I can't ever use swype again? Really liked it.

Same thing happened to me. I need this!

how do we go about buying it?

Can't post links but check out the thread in this section "SKN] - Droid Does Swype". Works for me. My old one expired today, but that one works.

worked for me when i installed it yesterday, and still working on my phone now. i use shapewriter but i just switched to swype after seeing this thread, and mine works.

Check it the N1 forums, the newest beta is posted there and works fine on my incredible.

So I've uninstalled the old swype, and put in the new version. I went to keyboard settings and changed it from android and back to swype, but for some reason when opening up my handcent sms or the stock message app it still uses the default keyboard. I've messed with the menu and can't find an input method option. Just wondering if there is something I'm forgetting to do to get it to work.

having the same problem, even rebooted. uninstalled, installed new version. checked swype in keyboard settings .. but stock keyboard is coming up

start to write a new text message, and where it says "compose" or something, do a long press. then input method > swype
it took me 5 annoyed minutes to find that on my phone, hope that helps

This is a problem we will continue to have with Swype. They have no intent to sell Swype on the market. Instead they are selling it to OEM's so it can be preloaded on new phones. After it stopped functioning when I switched to the Seidio 1750 battery (It said my hardware ID had changed and to contact Swype support), I switched to Shapewriter and never looked back. I actually like it better than Swype after using it for a bit.
Edit: SlideIt is another alternative to Swype.

Why would they have a beta sign up and then not put it on market, that makes no sense to me.

they will do whatever makes them money, if there are phones that cant get swype they will most likely offer an app pretty much like they are doing now. The expired trial was a previous beta. The new swype is out and works fine, and supposedly will have an official release tomorrow. There is already a thread with the link in the first post.

So, on the same day that I FINALLY get an official beta invite for the Swype beta, I read on Twitter that they are going to be releasing the public beta tomorrow. Here is the link:

They are saying that this one is not going to time out according to another source. I guess we will find out more details tomorrow.

LOL. I got that beta invite this morning as well. Awesome.

I'm part of the beta and just installed the newest version but it doesnt work. When i "swype" i see the tracing but no words are ever inputted. I remember having this problem before but I dont remember how I fixed it...Any ideas? Thanks.

Long press the input field, select input method from the context method, switch to Android Keyboard, then do this again and switch back to Swype.

Did you uninstall both the old installer and the program? Then download the new installer and apk? I recall that this process should be followed for the new version to work.

Just installed it, I think Swype is one of the best things on Android. Installed without any problems.

i registered late last night...got my invite about 10 minutes ago.
back up and running with swype. one of my favorite apps (and most useful) on my nexus.

Looks like it's up now. For anyone that doesn't have the beta already, now is the time to get it!

Can someone tell me if double tapping in portrait mode works to bring up the spell check box in this version?

I didnt have the old installer/apk as i just upgraded to a nexus one from a G1. however, I reinstalled it and it works now. Hard to decide whether I like swype or HTC IME better. I guess time will tell. If only HTC IME had multi touch, I'd be so happy!!

Whats with swype on inspire?

Does anyone have issues with it working? Sometimes it works, then other times it completely stops doing anything. It will popup and ill start swyping but it wont register anything.

I've seen other people say that when they have issues with swype, just switch input (long press on a text field and change input to keyboard), then switch back and it should be OK

I stopped using it for this reason. Having to switch text input was irritating me. I just use the stock keyboard, works fine.

I stopped using it because of this issue until I flashed CM7. Figured i would give it another try. It has not stopped working in the 3 days that I have been using CM7, so maybe it had something to do with AR?

Does it come on all the roms? Can't find swype on mine.

I have the same issues with Swype on AR 3, and now RCMix HD 4.1... But since there's an easy workaround, I'll keep using it as I like Swyping so much.

It works fine on my stock, un-rooted Inspire. I just simply downloaded the latest Swype apk file, and side loaded it through SWM. Simple, clean and easy. It works flawlessly, and has been for weeks now.

I just started having this problem today actually. I have been using it for a week and a half now. Don't know why it just happened today. I had to reset it twice earlier but fine now.

you have to sign up for the beta here where they send you a download link. At which point in your browser it may tell you that you are not using an android device. If you encounter this change your settings to show as a mobile and then you should be able to download and load it the way they show there

How do you know this is the "Real" version and not just the apk someone got from the beta? not to mention of course that SWYPE does not want its apk being shared as such, and wants all copies to be properly licensed which even XDA is observing and removing links to the downloads when they see them to observe swypes request that they have proper copies and/or have permission to install it in their roms or on their own devices.

Thanks phil.W for the the heads up. I removed my post on that matter upon reading those terms of service from the link you provided. And yes, someone should let the other member, who is linking to the apk file, know about that as well. No reason to step on anyone's foot over at Swype and cause any problems for developers here on XDA.

You can register for the beta, which works very good imo. Just follow the registration procedure and it'll be explained.
One thing tho': You've got to download an apk-file through the browser of your mobile phone. If you use the sense default browser, check "mobile view" in the settings. Swype website won't be able to detect the "android browser" otherwise.

they said it was specifically for the sprint version. hopefully they do make it available to everyone in the beta.

someone posted a black themed version of swype anyone have a link to that? cant seem to find it

All Swype links are removed from xda, as it's considered warez if it's posted as an apk.

Yea I got the new update, just wish we could have gotten the black themed one

I installed it in my android tablet and my phone. The tablet version has this nice black theme. Anyone know where can I get that for my sensation?

I don't understand why swype doesn't make the keyboard theme-able. I miss my user-themed blacked out swype keyboard for the Galaxy S.

I installed the update when I saw the improvements. I might stick with this one. +1 on black theme. I been using slideit

swype beta works fine on sensation
i've been using the beta on my sensation 4g since the day i got it. works perfectly fine. to download the installation file i just used a different browser - firefox, opera, etc

This actually seems worse. I stopped after the update before this. Everything seems off. Even the suggestion is wrong.

Is there anywhere besides the official Swype beta site that keeps track of their releases? I just updated to the most recent version and it is garbage; does not add words to personal dictionary, loss of functionality and doesn't add anything new.
Where can I find an older version that works?
Which version is the best?
Don't want to lose Swype but finding anything about it is such a pain.

The newest beta version is 1.1.1.7628 it doesn't lose the add words to personal dictionary it just automatically adds them instead of old version where you had to tell it to look at your texts. You could google to find a older version xda doesn't allow the people to talk about where to find this kind of thing so i cant go into detail all i can say is even if you do it will expire if it hasn't already. I like this version it seems the most accurate by far.

Strange, I've specifically tried to add several words. Neither typing it and then clicking it in the word bar, or typing it and then hitting space have been successful. Perhaps it is the language options, I will try that next.

If you have an old nand with the version you like you can use TB to restore it from the nand.

You might have to type the word then click it then type it and click it a few times to make the program know you really really want that word or just wait for it to add since it runs automatically in the background i dont know if thats once a day or every few hours but it has added words for me.

how to add to dictionary
I went to the browser to add '****' to my dictionary by typing the word 3 times and it was there in the dictionary after that
