Wifi speed - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Any way to get faster wifi speeds on the box than 14 megs? My PC gets 40-50 and my phone can't go any faster than. 14 usually.

Try changing to 5GHz only
Sent from my Race Horse Duct Taped to a SCUD Missile

I get all 30 of my 30 meg connection. I wonder if you're just getting a lot of interference from other networks or something.

More than likely it is a networking issue. Try changing to 5 MHz like previously mentioned. Also use some type of WiFi analyzer to see what channels are being used around you. Channels 1, 7, and 11 are prefered channels for 2.4 MHz. I couldn't tell you the channels for 5 MHz off of the top of my head. My wife has an iPhone4 and it can't use 5 MHz like my HOX. I can say when testing the 5 MHz I saw a big improvement.

Perfect. Now we're working better. Thanks for the input guys. Didn't realize that my network was pushing out both the 2.4 and 5ghz ranges, and my phone was auto connecting to the 2.4

Much better...

Just play with the wireless and see what works best for your household. If u have any questions feel free to ask. I'm no expert but have plenty of networking experiance.

Problems with WiFi

My WiFi isn't running at its full speed I have a 50 mb dl line but my phone will only do 6-10 mb dl
I'm on vu 1.29
Can I edit build prop to fix this and if so what line
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
I don't think the build.prop is going to be what you want to edit. Maybe try another kernel, I was having some similar issues until I started using my current one.

Yeah bro, Pirate is right on this one. We get 56 thru WiFi altogether - it doesn't matter if I am solely connected, or if both computers, laptop, ps3, Wii, ipod and both phones are connected. Which with seven in a household happens more than you might think.... 6-10 is all your gonna get... I spiked at 11 once, and I should have framed that speed test.... Some.of these people with thier 30 + screen shots ..... I dunno man, hasn't happened to me. Saw one first hand from Vegas on an unrooted inspire that hit 22 on mobile... Obviously they had the shiz backhauled or what the Hell ever there. In.Arkansas we will get 7 tops on Mobile data, and that is spotty and rare, avg is 2-4. You know, I actually haven't speed tested in awhile...
-MyPocketWizard-
What router are you using? How much space is in between you and your router? Try flashing the proper kernel, Radio and RIL
I don't have the connection to test it but everything i have read says 65mb is the top. No problem here maxing out my cable at 18 but I smh wondering what you guys do that requires such speed...
I have wireless-n, so I will connect at 65mbps, which is tops for the Inspire from what I have seen. The top actual download speed I will usually get is around 15-16mbps, with 10-12mbps being the average.

Ya mine will hit 14 for a split second but always goes down to 6 mb its like there's a cap around 6 cuz it will hit that drop to 4 then go back to 6 so on and so on.
I take it I can't edit something in build prop to make WiFi better

I've pulled every bit of the 18mbps of my cable connection, once. It averages lower because I share my broadband with 4 computers, 2 cell phones on WiFi and 2 xbox 360s.

What the hell is wrong with WiFi

It just stops working for no apparent reason and the signal indicator fluctuates wildly. Amazingly the LTE signal is very strong and reliable, guess I'll be relying on that over wifi which just seems wrong.

If I sit in front of my router it works great but if I move a little out of the way it just doesn't work. This sucks, because otherwise I'm loving the phone.

I was curious about this too. Are you on AT&T or Rogers? I know many are reporting issues with Wireless N routers.
Supposedly it will be fixed in a firmware update.

I have a netgear, couple years old. Not sure what type though.
In the WiFi settings, under the menu, "WiFi Network Bands", select "2.4 GHz only". That improved the wifi quality significantly for me.

I can confirm that switching to "2.4 GHZ only" improved the stability for myself as well. This will have to do until HTC releases a fix.

Has anyone tried to assign a specific DHCP lease to their phone with their router to see if this solves the problem? This is killing me, I have to have a phone with flawless wifi, I don't get great cell signal where I work so I need the wifi for texting (I use google voice) / chat / email. I guess I will know more tomorrow when I get home to get mine. I tried to talk my wife to brining it to me at work but no dice there.
I currently have a galaxy nexus which has very finicky wifi as well. I have found that it is more router related than anything else. With the apple airport extreme the connection has always been perfect, but I saw here this is not the case with this phone. Fingers Crossed.
AT&T broke the WIFI on purpose for the following reason
have you use LTE.
Charge your for going over data cap
Profit?

Seems to have done the trick for me!!
From a purely RF point of view, 2.4GHz has better range than 5GHz due to being able to go through walls better. If other devices don't have issues connecting over 5Ghz from the same location, then the issue may be the WiFi antenna design and/or the case material which makes it difficult for higher frequencies to get through. This is most likely the case if by approaching the router you are able to connect over 5 GHz.

This would be fine but I have issues when connected to 2.4ghz when 5ghz is enabled. After I turned off 5ghz its stable so this is not a signal issue, this is some type of driver or kernel issue.

I believe your correct, hopefully HTC will adress it.In the mean time at least it's a bit more stable so far switching to 2.4
Switching your ip to static also works! lets you keep the frequencies on auto. Good for your home wifi. For other locations i guess set it back to 2.4ghz. Hopefully HTC addresses this sometime soon.

Extremely slow connecting to wifi on CM10 (stable/nightly)

I have an HTC One X (AT&T) and I am having a pretty slow time connecting to wifi around the house and in other places. It is a WEP connection at home, and several other android devices have no issue connecting (my dad's Nexus S running CM10 takes 3 seconds) and my iPhone 3G takes 2 seconds to connect, while my HOX running CM10 takes anywhere from 60 seconds to an entire hour, usually falling between 15 minutes to 30 minutes to connect. Once connected, data speeds are normal and the connection is stable. I've had this problem on CM10 stable and the latest nightly, before and after a wipe and clean install. I don't believe I have been having this issue the entire time I've been on CM10.
NOTE: I restored my Cleanrom backup (4.0.4 I believe) and the wifi connects in 2 seconds to the same router without fail every time, over and over again.
Is anyone else having this issue? Do I need to flash a custom radio or something?

You guys get a cookie. They were both 2wires. Is it just the router is a POS and there is a connection lag or something?
Something with those routers are preventing cm10 based ROMs to latch on to its wifi. Sense ROMs connect instantly, and I bet if you use someone else's wifi that isn't a 2wire it would connect instantly. Join the clan bro....

My friend has a cisco one but he also has a new 2wire box. They are both transmitting wifi and one says uverse on the side. I think the AT&T guy was high when he set them up, because I argued with their family that they had 2 wifi sources and they were like no we only have 1. You could always disable wifi in the 2Wire and hook in your linksys or whatever into one of the ethernet ports on the back of the 2wire. That's what I would do.

Wow that explains why I can never get WiFi at my friends house when it works on his iPhone and his dad's galaxy note
So what is the solution? Surely there has to be a workaround?
Not that I can find.. I've been reasearching and cant come up with much.. a guy gave me a tip with the default router passwords but mine won't except it bc its too short.. I know I have to go into settings and change some stuff but haven't yet. The address is on the router to access settings but I keep forgetting beings im working on sense lockscreen mods

S3 vs iPhone 5 LTE download speeds

Don't kill me. Why would my wife's iPhone 5 get much better scores on speedtest.net with the same server. I'm getting 5 where she is getting 23.

Same server but same location?

I would assume so. I'm holding both phones, choose the corpus Christi server, and hit begin test at the same time.
I'm assuming it's hardware, the antenna or something.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Anyway to compare the actual reception numbers? Inside my house using the nearest server I get around 5000kbps download and my signal strength is -108dBm 32 asu, that's 2 bars on the display. At my friends apartment where I can practically spit on the cellular antenna I'm so close I get max bars and over 60,000kbps down I didn't take note of what my actually numbers were in regards to signal strength on that one.

What router are you using (with ac wireless)

I'm planing on changing my router for a new one that has ac wireless. Before I RMA my nexus 5 for that damn WiFi drop issue I thought it was time to try a New router but I would like to know who has a router with ac wireless and if you have any WiFi drop. So very easy.

Mine is no AC wireless but its certainly better than those Asus AC High performance routers
what I like is a balance between Coverage and performance a company called Amped Wireless In the USAMakes these types of routers not some cheap china/korean stuff
What I have is this http://www.ampedwireless.com/products/r20000g.html
It's got dual signal amplifiers each antenna port is outputting 600Mw of power that's face melting wifi right there. Most routers don't even output 100Mw. Routers with internal antennas put out only like 50Mw and have no signal noise filters.
So overall my router is a bit overkill but somehow my Nexus 5 manages to drop the connection lol... my other devices don't exhibit such behavior though.
I'm guessing this is software and I'll wait till Android 4.5 comes I have a year anyway from LG to RMA

Did you check what channel your routers using or if there's a conflict with a nearby router on the same channel. My wife's Macbook pro couldn't hold a WiFi signal from 6 feet away yet every other device in our house had no problems. What I did was took the router off auto and set it to use a specific channel that no other routers within a couple hundred feet where using. Now the MBP has been rock solid since. Turns out me and two neibors were all on channel 6. All my Asus Transformers where real sensitive to signal also.

Anyone having trouble seeing some AC channels? I had a launch day N5 that had no problem connecting to ch 153 on my Netgear Nighthawk running DD-WRT. I sold that N5 months ago and now have bought another N5. This one won't "see" my AC network unless it's set to a channel under 48. Even wifi analyzer shows that I have a limited 5 GHz channel range. My S4 connects just fine. Do your N5's see higher 5 GHz channels?
See the photo below. I only see my neighbor's wifi 5G network and the graph stops at 44.
EDIT: Fixed it. It seems changing my extension channel has fixed the issue. I now see the network. N5 seems to not support all AC channels listed in my DD-WRT channel settings.
