Ok, so im really new to using this and i followed everything the guide said. Something didnt go right when i tried to use it, all i was wanting to do was change the battery icon in the status bar. I found the apk files needed in my current rom. Everything went well with cooking the file and getting the zip file and putting it on the sd card, flashed it and when i went to reboot phone it got stuck on the splash screen. So im in the process of wiping and restoring the phone.
eollie has given me a good start and i plan on continuing with lightly modded, i mean lightly .
Now for the question, since i followed the steps to the letter something else had to go wrong, hopefully. Just wondering if anyone has an idea where i should start looking...
Thanks in advance..
BTW in trying to do this on AntonX's Barebones rom...dont know if that was a need to know

I'm having an issue with changing the data signal bars on Valhalla black....I chose icons and picked blue steel icon pack which includes the bars aswell as most all the icons on the status bar.....all the status icons are changed to blue steal but the data bars,I'm not understanding it....I made multipal changes such as flip animation in window, battery, and font and evreything is as I want it....just not the main thing I wanted....the dang bars I really wanted the blue steal signal bars.
Not trying to high Jack this thread....just figured better here than making a new thread based on similar question.
BTW yes I did do the work around with mounting and wiped cache and dalvic

I believe it has something to do with the zip UOT makes so try and grab the UOT zip and unzip it then unzip the rom its from. Then move over the systemui, framework-res and twframework-res to their appropriate folders rezip the rom n reflash then come back n hit the thanks button

The way eoliie told me a while back worked perfectly, and I used tons of mods. Just push the uot. Apks into their respective spots using a root explorer, then reboot and fix permissions. Work perfect

Unzipping and pushing will work.
Once I figured out that changing the update binary option to galaxy I never had the issue of it bootlooping me.
I think the kitchen also says if you get a bootloop to pull the update binary from a rom zip that works and put in in the uot zip.

Your bootanimation.zip has to be stored, not compressed. You can set the compression level in pretty much every gui out there.
Make sure you take a known good bootanimatin.zip and edit that since it'll save you a lot of headaches.

I was able to change the system and framework directories from R/O to R/W and add circular battery png's to the framework-res.apk and push to the phone, screen shot is attached..
It might not be the progress to get complete root, but atleast we can mod the look of it and it stay after power down.

Ok so newb question here... I've tried to mod framework-res.apk numerous times on my n1 and adb never works right, won't push or doesn't exist, or just bootloops... Any chance you could do a step by step write up on how you got the battery .pngs To work? I was just using uot kitchen before and now without full root I can't use it... I know its a pain but this is a mod I did constantly to every rom I ran. Ie: phone on? Resign apk? Commands in adb? Thanks ;-)
Yes! instructions would be awesome!
Instructions and someone else is what it will take before I believe this. Since it is not even deodexed as well as the battery icon in the picture looks blurry (to me anyways) and doesn't look native.
I pulled the framework-res.apk from system/framework
opened it within winrar and moved the battery png's to res/drawable-mdpi
it asked to update after move and click ok
went into root manager and remount /system as r/w
pushed framework-res.apk to /system/framework
that is the exact steps I followed as I did with when I had my mytough3g as well
I still can't wrap my head around this. How do these changes persist beyond a reboot if the system partition cannot be written to??
I thought this was the single biggest issue blocking progress in developing for both this device and the G2. So, it would appear that Root Explorer can re-write anything in the system partition by simply changing from r/o to r/w?
I don't get it.
NICE NICE, and nice Applanet ^_^
so this does work. Only thing i did was mount system in clockwork recovery then push framework-res.apk to /system/framework as far percentages go, there are only .pngs for 0,10,20,40,60,80 and 100 percent so i would assume the .xml needs redone. But cool to be able to do this!
I like the default Froyo theme but the battery Icon in the status bar is completely worthless because it doesn't accurately reflect the current percent remaining.
Is is possible to change only this icon?

If you have flashed the Froyo Pick-n-Pack ROM, you can go to the UOT kitchen here, and upload the framework-res.apk file from the ROM. It will implement accurate battery mod for you and then you just have to flash the package that comes out. Pretty easy to do.
Success! Thank you. That website is very handy.
phidelt82...what are your super secret mods and rom...i wanna try it...not knowing is killin me...lmao
Without getting too in depth, I'll try to explain;
To change battery pictures, you must open the framework-res.apk file in 7zip and replace the existing .png files with the ones you want (while i'ts still "compressed" aka packaged, DO NOT UNZIP IT. Sounds easy, but it get's complicated;
Accurate battery mod means that the XML has been edited to show an image at more specific battery levels (1,2,3,4,5...) So, if what ever theme/rom you're trying to change already has this mod in it then you just have to make sure that the theme you're pulling the new clock images from also has the mod. This is obvious because there are more images than the stock version (it went by 10's and 15's)
EDIT: Just going to leave this random bit of info here lol..

If you're trying to create a new theme, the best thing to do is to take the pick and pack rom over to UTO Kitchen choose the new icons you want with their tools, then upload the framework-res.apk from PNP and it will add the mod and the new images for you, which you can then flash on your phone.

After you've selected your battery icons and color it should give you the option to upload your framework-res.apk, after that when you go to the pickup page there should be a heading of "my uploads" or something, seperate from the rest of them. That will be the one you did.
It seems as though this has to be done from your computer. Am I wrong? I tried doing it from my phone and when I click on "choose file", it takes me to a page where it says "no files found"
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Alright. I finally found where to upload the file (using the computer and not the phone). Now everytime I try to upload the framework-res.apk file, the upload fails. Am I doing something wrong?
I had to try a few times too, it's finicky.

I have the unzipped PnP file on my computer.
I go to the kitchen and cook up my file.
I upload my framework-res.apk.
It takes like 10-15 mins. And receive my file.
From my computer, I put the file it cooked up on my sd card.
Boot into recovery, Disable lagfix and reboot
Boot into recovery again, select install .zip from sd card
Select my cooked up file, and reboot
And my battery is still the same
What am I doing wrong?

Hey guys, I have been told to post this here as I have not made enough posts..
I tried to change my boot animation, by placing the bootanimation.zip file in both /system/media and /data/local and all still plays the Samsung boot logo although with no sound.. So searched through the forums here and everyone tells you that you need a custom rom to get it to work if your phone has the /system/media/bootsamsung.qmg file...
I then cooked a package from romkitchen and installed that but have the same issue, even though I can see the bootanimation.zip file in /system/media/ I can also still see the bootsamsung.qmg as well.
I have only just got this phone about a week ago, so have searched thoroughly, in case I was missing something but i don't think I am..
Can someone help me with what’s going on?
No one able to help me with this one?
Hm you should easily be able to change bootanimation with the rom kitchen.
Remember that you can not change the white text at the beginning of the boot.
I think the files stay there, they dont get removed, just another one gets used if its present, if not the stock animation will be used.

All it seems to do is kill the samsung boot sound.
Anyone else got any ideas?

Do you use a stock rom?
This probably doesn't work because your android is not looking for the bootanimation.zip.
Custom ROMs have a modded start up script which tells the system to look for the .zip file.
I am using a rom from rom kitchen..
I have changed it again since I made post above but still a custom rom..

I have tried selecting the bootanimation from RK, and also downloading one from elsewhere and replacing the one that is there.
Both have the same effect..
Weird,I had trouble switching mine too. The only way I've been able to do it is using the app called File Explorer. It's like 10 dollars on the market, but I found it for free. I put the new zip on my card, then file explorer/system/media, delete the boot animation zip, paste the new zip & rename it to the name of the zip that was there. It's worked every time. Flashing a new splash screen is a little different....

Just to clarify the splash screen is the white text right?
I am not trying to change that just the colored samsung animation.
The splash screen is the first screen you see when you turn your phone on. It doesn't move, & most often just says the name of the phone. Then the boot animation comes on, it moves & plays some kind of music. Do you have file explorer? If not, don't buy it,I can help you get it for free.

I have Root Explorer that I use to access that location.
I have tried another bootanimation from this spot -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905538

(Renaming to bootanimations.zip and placing in system\media)
but still the samething happens.
Yeah, my bad,I meant Root Explorer. But it had to be bootanimation.zip take the s off

Well that's how I change mine. I did download a particle ring android (blue) and couldn't get it to work right. Seems to me like you're doing everything right. There's one other option I know of. Download a free program called android flasher.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638
You should be able to flash boot animations & splash screens with no problem. It is a .rar, so if you don't have the program you'll need to download winrar or something similar to extract & install the files. Google it, the program is free.

If you're on the latest version 1.08 of Eaglesblood for 2.3.5, then just push this SystemUI.apk into /system/app , fix the permissions, and reboot, and it should do the trick.
The reason you were having trouble before is because the stock image is a .9.png...I won't go into the details of that, but a little extra work is needed to make those files work.
This file I've included should work for ya.

Ok, so you're on the latest version (1.08) of Eaglesblood for 2.3.5, correct? If you are not 100% sure, you can check in "About Phone" and check on the build.
Using the SystemUI.apk that I uploaded, what is your procedure for getting it into your phone?
Because that file has a transparent status_bar_background.9.png with correct patch handles drawn...not sure why it won't work. I will admit, that I don't have a 2.3.5 nandroid backed up to test. Anyone else?
I think I found the problem. Your rom's SystemUI/res/layout/status_bar_tracking.xml points to shade_bg.png for the background. I made that image transparent for you, and recompiled the apk. I really hope this works for you. I have to admit, I"m feeling rather dumb right now.
Yes I'm on 1.08 and my exact procedure was I downloaded the file on my phone, I went to root explorer to the xda download folder where it was located, I copied it to system/app and overwrote tthe current systemui.apk that was there, at that time, a constant endless force closes occurred so I had to pull my battery and rebooted that way, as it rebooted, the notification bar was gone, I then went to the systemui and changed permissions to where the first column is all checked and the first of the 2nd ccolumn is checked, I then pulled the battery again (cuz of the apn issue without the hard reset) and when it came back, nothing changed, so I fixed permissions via rom manager, to no avail......its frustrating!

holy crap it worked.....a million times THANKS!!! You effin rock dude! thanks for taking the time to help me! So to my understanding, u just edited the shade_bg file???? that was it??
Yeh, essentially, all I would have needed to do was edit that shade_bg.png file. But I didn't know to look there until I was forced to try to save face after giving you bad advice, lol. Now I know that some roms will point to status_bar_background.png, some will point to shade_bg, and some even simply define a hex color code...just have to decompile the SystemUI.apk, and look in res/layout/status_bar_tracking.xml to see where it's looking....and then edit that file.

so now that i know it works, i was wondering if i wanted to create one, do i make it 200 x 200 like the current shade_bg file is? i kinda want to make one with a black background with semi transparency! I tried editing the shade_bg file u made, with a program called Gimp, but it didnt work
Can you give me your exact method to doing this? I created an image from gimp, i saved it as shade_bg.png, so basically , i extracted the systemui.apk from root explorer, it put the extracted in my sd card, so i plugged in my phone in my mac, and i took that folder from my sd card, now from here, the extracted file is a zip file, so i double clicked it b/c macs can unzip files easily, so in the folder, i placed my shade_bg file into the appropriate folder.....now this is where i think i mess up, what do u do from here? I "compressed" the systemui folder to make it back into a zip, and then placed it into my sd card, i then "renamed" the file thru my phone from a .zip to a .apk, now in root explorer there is usually an icon that shows up next to the name of the files, now when i changed it, a green android icon showed up, but on the file that you had edited for me, there was a "settings" icon, u know, the standard icon for the settings app in android! i put the apk in the system/app and it didnt work, even after permissions set up! hmmm.....i promise, this will probably be my last post!
please keep in mind, i have a mac, and i do have that 7zip u mentioned in the development thread, but its called EZ7Z.....just in case i need it
If you are doing it the way you described, then you need to find a way to zip with no compression. 7 zip does that with the "store" setting...not sure about the mac version.
You don't wanna know where this was sent from.

anyone know how to convert a .zip to .apk correctly?
I will start by apologizing for how this looks , It's my first time putting up a tutorial on anything here so excuse my mess but hopefully it is clear enough tounderstand and help some people out who like me are not the most gifted with ADB command.
I have tried some things and finally got my CRT animation working for my Play
(R800X). I did this with the help of Meister Li getting the files correct for my framework-res.apk with the CRT animation in it but for the leife of me I couldn't get it to work. This is how I got it to work, and also now that this si done I have also found out how you can still have the CRT off as well as using you own images on the lock screen. So, here we go
***YOU MUST BE ROOTED AND HAVE UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER, THAT'S HOW MY PHONE IS NOW AND IT WORKED JUST FINE,AND AS ALWAYS THIS IS NEVER 100% SO APPLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK***
Always remember to keeps a backup of original files incase you make a mistake or mess up that way your not up a creek without a paddle
Start by checking of Meister Li's thread to grab your CRT Off .zip
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065789
Also don't forget to grab your System.UI apk to get this to work.
Once you have that swing by the UOT Kitchen
Once in the kitchen go to kitchen and then click the upload tab on the far right
click upload files and chose your crt framework from the thread above and load your SystemUI.apk
Once uploaded click on summary ans go down to submit work to kitchen which will give your order number andf go to pick up and wait for it to finish
You now have a flashable .zip file to put on your sd card, then get into fastboot and get to recovery to install zip from sd card
*WIPE CACHE FIRST OR YOU MAY HAVE ISSUES*
After install reboot will take a few minutes but after that you will be good to go with your new CRT off framework.
Next is the custom lockscreen images, This gives you the chance to put any images onto the lockscreen.
Start by picking an image and going here to convert to a .png file
http://www.coolutils.com/Online/Image-Converter/
Then follow these steps to make a 9-patch.png file which is required for this to work. The toll is in your SDK
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/draw9patch.html
Once you have your 9-patch.png's you can now put them into your CRT Off framework-res.apk
Open your framework-res.apk,click on res and go to the following places
drawable-land-hdpi and also drawable-hdpi
I replaced the images in both spots but both may not need to be changed but better safe then sorry
In drawbale-land-hdpi I replaced ic_jog_dial_unlock and ic_jog_dial_sound_on
with my images (Make sure your new images are renamed to the files I listed or this will notwork )
In drawable-hdpi I replaced the same files and also replaced the
ic_jog_dial_answer and ic_jog_dial_decline
after getting your files replaces swing back into the kitchen and load your files as stated above to get your new CRT Off with custom lockscreen images.
ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!
-This should work with other SE phones but don't know anyone who has any, but feel free to try and let me know how it goes
