Hi Guys, I am sure someone on here will know the answer to this but I cant find it anywhere. I have a 16gb sd card in my lg 3d with no probs but its running out of disk space so I have bought a 32 gb which I understand the lg 3d can handle ok.
I used Win xp to copy the files over to the new disk which was fat 32 formatted by the phone. But when I insert the new 32 gb disk in the phone it says scanning media, but when I explore the disk all the files are gone apart from the dcmi directory, root directory files and one other directory but my video directory with films in them, the gameloft folder all gone ???
The pics & vids in the camera folder are all corrupt too ? can anyone assist as to whats going on here, when I put the card back in win xp laptop all files are the same as in phone as if its deleting certain files/folders when inserting, almost as if its resetting the disk each time its inserted.
Any thoughts or help on this appreciated. The 16 gb works fine every time its inserted ???
System is rooted with custom firmware \v21d feb 17 2012 which is awesome all round as a operating system for LG 3d, great battery life, 3g and fast.
Thanks
Paul

Did you wipe cache?
I had this problem 9 months ago but can't remember how I solved it..
Did you unmount / mount the card?
Sent from my P920 using xda premium
This happend to me once before but on the htc magic not sure what caused this, soon after files got corrupted it failed. It was a sandisk 4gb card what i did was reflash the phone. Inserted the micro sd into the pc card reader used windows disk management, found the card right click delete volume then created new fat32/fat partition can't remember anyway inserted it back havent had that problem since gave the phone to my mom still runs.
Thanks for the replies guys, but I find it hard to believe that wiping the cache or reformatting the phone is the answer to this, as the 16gb once put back in works flawlessly, would it be the speed of the disk is there a minimum speed that the disk should be, it wasnt and expensive one and works fine in my asus tf101 but phones can be fussy about the speed of a card.
i did the formatting in win xp, I will try mounting & unmounting to see if it helps as it sees the card ok, just directories are not seen as if it deletes the big folders like gameloft but keeps the dcmi folder but the pics & vids become corrupt ???
Just seems odd that I can see the disk, and its correct size and some of the files on the disk but those big directories are moved by the phone when the scan is done after insertion??
Look forward to thoughts as to the removal of these files on insertion.
Thanks
Give This a try.
Thanks will do, should I unmount then remount before putting the gameloft folder back on??? as it just removes the big folders at the moment.

Hi seems to have worked I formatted as 32bit, copied files using win xp, unmounted old sd card off lg optimus 3d and remounted new 32 gb card and after scan it all appears ok without deletion.
Havent rebooted as yet but will do soon to see if it erases then, but no news is good news. I will assume fixed.
Many thanks to all contributions on this thread.

*I've spent a lot of time searching...all the answers I come up with involve copy and paste the folders...which is what I did...but windows doesn't show me my ext3 partition.*
I recently rooted my G1, formatted my 2 gig SD with a 32mb swap and 500mb ext3 and flashed cyanogen 4.0.1. I quickly realized that a 2 gig card was just not enough (now that I'm left with 1.1 gig...) so I purchased a class 6, 8 gig card
I plugged the phone in to my computer, copied all my files, put cyanogen recovery 1.4 on the 8 gig and booted to console, formatted the card to my 7200, 500 and 32mb partitions. Shut the phone down, stuck the card in my card reader and moved all the files that were on the 2 gig onto the 8 gig. Booted the phone...damn it...no apps!
Took a few minutes of head scratching before I remembered that cyanogen 4.0.1 does the apps to the ext3 partition! all my apps are on the 2 gig! *arg*
Is there a way to clone the 2 gig card to the 8 gig without messing up the partitions? or just copy everything from my ext3 to the new ext3?? I really don't want to go through and download all the apps I had again
I found some SD card clone software (sprite? IIRC) but that looks like its specifically for WM devices.
As I understand your SD are formatted to ext3. Best solution is download any live linux distribution (live = run from cd into ram without installing and changing anything) and copy files normally.
yeah all ubuntu iso's include a live os you can boot up in without it installing anything to your harddisk there you should be able to read ext3
Hadn't considered that...
Thanks for the help
unfortunately, even just sticking the 2gig card back in the phone none of the apps work the phone boots and I get a long list of "xxxxx encountered an error and must force close"
looks like its off to the market for me...
*sigh*

Just for future reference....how does one go about backing up the ext partition of the SD card so if your current card has an issue you can stick the backup card in and keep running without having to download all your apps again??? I mean...if removing the original card, then turning the phone on with a new card in there caused it to "forget" the location of all the apps when the original card was installed...how does a backup card do you any good??

This thread appears to be the answer...If I ever have to get another card, I'll give this a try.
I use HDD Raw Copy, just use a partition manager to resize old partitions
http://hddguru.com/software/HDD-Raw-Copy-Tool/
Greetings
I've used GParted from Live USB Linux (I use PuppyLinux, but any other Live Linux with GParted would do) to copy partitions between sdcards / usb drives / hard disks. It's GUI based, very simple and does the job.
Just plug both the sdcards into your computer before opening GParted,
Once open, GParted would ask option to use only one device or all devices - make sure you select all devices.
After it loads all the devices, you can select the 2GB card, right click each partition, copy and select 8GB card and paste the partition there.
Please follow the partition order so that you don't change the order in the 8GB card.
Once all the partitions are done, you can resize the partition you want to make bigger on the 8GB to fill the card.
After configuring everything, click Apply and wait for GParted to do all the magic!
Sorry for this thread, Ive managed to get it working now
Ok actually Im still having a problem with this, so heres the story
Figured I'd try here for some help here, I have a Bell SGS Vibrant, got tired of waiting for Froyo so I tried a stable build (think its stable ) anyways everything is great overall except now I cant use my external SD card, it says that its write protected, I know that sometimes cards can do that, but I had an idea and was wondering if anyone here could tell me if I was on the right path
I noticed I had a LOST.DIR and .android_secure folders now on my external SD card, from what Ive read its for Mac I believe.... anyways, I noticed the extensions and was wondering if that was the problem, for example looking at my internal SD card its in /mnt/internal_sd/sd directory, so now looking at my external SD its /mnt/internal_sd/external_sd, is that how it should be layed out? I was wondering if I was having problems due to the external SD card being in the internal SD card directory

Baseband version I9000XXJP2
Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build number GT-I9000-eng 2.2 MASTER 332 test-keys.332
Just noticed something new when I try to connect the phone in mass storage mode it still says write protected, but when I have it in Kies mode, Windows has it show up as a phone and I can add or delete files that way
From what I know the Lost.dir folder is for files that get corrupted during transfer. At least on the broken flash I have all incomplete transfers go there.
Also its normal that when viewing the contents of your phone through a file explorer on your device that the external SD is in the /sdcard/external_sd/ folder
Now to your problem...have you tried formatting your card?

Ok so I was on the wrong track then, thanks for the info I appreciate it
Ya I only brought up the LOST.DIR cuz I hadnt seen it before in the file system
I have tried formatting it but Win7 is a POS when it comes to formatting it always fails (plus dunno if a FAT format will work properly with Android?), perhaps Ill try it on my Ubuntu laptop and see if I can do it that way, I dont think its a card issue as I have tried another card with the same result, then again its not like 2 cards cant be corrupted
Ill post back here after trying that
Tried formatting it didnt solve the problem, also tried another card that I know isnt corrupted since it works on my wifes BlackBerry, its the same thing, so this is an OS issue
Done lots of Googling but have come up empty
Anyone have any ideas?
I guess this is my specific problem as I didn't found any query regarding this.
I have recently purchased Sandisk 32GB MicroSDHC class 4. I have installed fresh SteelEpicBlue V4 ROM and everything i did regarding ext3 swap etc. But now when i try to copy my old data, images, movie clips, movies it does copy but it gets corrupted. If lets say i copy 20 images at a time 4-5 opens and are accessable left all gets corrupt.
I checked with few testings that till data card in not pushed back to phone and if i try to access data on card to various PC ( I have 5 different pc tp check ) it works and lets me copy information safely but as i put it back to phone it creates thumbnails and most of the files get corrupted.
I have fat32 format file system in the card.
Please help me with 3 question if anyone may:
1) Is it that i have got compatable SDcard - mine is Sandisk Class 4 32GB ?
2) Is it that we can make sum partition to help easy access & will it help?
3) Is there anything we can do to keep files in the SD card safe protecting it from corruption?
Please help me in this.
Thanks in advance.

Please let me know if there is anybody who tried 32gb MicroSDHC yet with XT720. And if it is working fine. Please let us know.
I use a 32gb card and it works fine. Most of the glitches have been self-inflicted. I had a Topram 16gb class 6 for a long time and used it on Nokia 5800 and then in xt720. I am a music hound so I upgraded to Topram 32gb class 10, although it runs more like a class 6. Capacity on the card is almost the full 32gb, so I was happy about that. Got both 16 and 32 from eBay, but made sure I got from same purveyor.
And always remember, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Hello
Got my 32gig card yesterday.
Formatted it on my PC took my 8gig out of my sensation but it in to my PC , copied all files to PC then put all the files on to my 32gb card put in the phone and hey no files?????.
I then formatted the card with my sensation and put the 32gb card back to the computer loaded the files and hey again.....no files.
Anybody got any ideas about what could be wrong?

Are you formatting the sd card as fat32? by default windows will pick NTFS.. worth a look. The phone needs Fat32.
What type of MicroSD card is it?
And where did you get it from?
Is there any possibility it could be a fake? So actually a low capacity card like 2GB (or lower) pretending to be 32GB?
I used to have a program which would write to every sector on the card and prove it's actual size, very handy for checking cards from ebay, but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called!
Make sure you are not quick-formatting the card and that you have set FAT32 as the file system
If you can copy files to the card on a computer and then use them, the card is ok. Maybe try the files on a second computer to double-check.
You can also try filling up the card with data... I once bought a 4GB card and only 2GB were working :|

Just open the case, remove the SD and insert the SD back. Wait for a few moments and u will have the files back
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
I'll try to keep this as succinct as possible.
Galaxy Note 2, Android 4.1.2, Rooted.
Few weeks ago began having trouble with audio play back. Any file longer than 5-10 minutes (audiobooks, podcasts etc) would either not playback at all or would after playing for 5 or 6 minutes begin jumping and skipping and then eventually skip to the next track. If I tried to select a point in the play back the song would skip.
Found that if I downloaded the files directly to the San Disk 64 gb SD card these problems would happen but if I downloaded them directly to the phone's internal storage it was fine. This pointed to me that the problem was with the SD card. Also noticed at this point that if I deleted files on the SD card then unmounted the SD card and remounted the deleted files would re-appear.
I re-formatted the SD card using my phone which didn't solve the problem all of the files were back again. I re-formatted the SD card on my mac to exFAT and plugged it in only to find all of the files present again. I used my Windows partition on my Mac to reformat the drive using Windows and found the same problem yet again.
This lead me to believe that the problem was with my phone. So I reformatted the SD card using my computer, and then did a factory reset of my phone. Low and behold I plug my SD card back into my phone only to find the 32 GB of files on the SD card present again. At this point it really didn't seem to make sense. I had formatted the SD card on my computer, opened it and found it to be empty. I then ejected it and plugged it in to find 32 GB of files on it. All accessible and playable, except for the skipping as mentioned above.
So I tried one last attempt. I unmounted the SD card, and factory reset my phone again. Then plugged the SD card into my computer and using the mac disk utility I reformatted the drive using the 7-pass erase system (which according to the description on my computer is good enough for the department of defense).
After waiting two and half days for the reformatting to be done I plugged my SD card into my factory reset phone and lo and behold the 32 GB of files have returned.
At this point I have accepted that I need a new SD card but this honestly doesn't seem possible anymore. Does anyone have any advice? Or heard of anything happening like this before?
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this huge message everyone, I really appreciate it.
