Hi guys. I NEED HELP REALLY BAD
So I was trying to root my friends HTC sensation with the latest ICS, sense 3.6 OTA firmware, and the 1.27 HBOOT version. After a while I tried the juopunutbear s-off trick, and it worked. When I went into bootloader (the thing where you turn it off and on while holding volume down), it said:
"locked
s-off"
I tried flashing CWM but it didn't work.
So I read that I needed to downgrade the firmware.
I downloaded khor-ah's 1.17 Universal firmware onto my SD, opened bootloader, and immediately it asked me if I wanted to update, and I pressed yes. It updates, then says "finished, Press power to reboot" which I do and then it bootloops between a black screen and the HTC logo.
I need to hand it back to him tomorrow, please help me figure this out by then!
Try a full wipe in boot loader settings
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
I can't.
As soon as I open bootloader, it automatically goes to the thing where it scans the SD and asks me if I want to update. Select yes, and it updates, reboots and does the whole thing again.
If I select No, it says operation canceled, press power to reboot. Then I go back to square 1. ADB also doesn't see it.
Take out the SD card, boot into boot loader mode, then pop sd card back in once in bootloader. Once you are in bootloader mode, try as suggested, doing a full wipe, or flashing the CWR/CWM
You're a godsent!
I removed the SD, put it into my Desire HD, and replaced the 1.17 firmware with new firmware from krah-oh or whatever his name is, and now it works! AND my bootloader is unlocked. I'll try and see if I can install custom recovery now!
THANKS a freakin' lot! You made my night!

Glad it worked. Only reason I knew to do that was because I was once in your position also.
Good luck!
The boot loop is because of the the firmware you flashed, it is not compatible with the ROM that is on the device right now (I bet it is a ICS ROM). You have to have 1.21.0000 or higher Hboot version to boot ICS. You need to go back to Khor-ah's thread and download the 3.32 firmware, get the universal one ifyour device is not a T-Mobile US (TMOUS) device, get the TMOUS if it is. Flash it and your ROM should boot then. Make sure to remove the PG58IMG.zip from your SD card or the bootloader will see it every time you you boot to bootlaoder.
Edit: Well looks like you got it fixed while I was typing lol.
Glad you got it all sorted...been in your position many times.
Panic over:thumbup:

Last night I flashed the gingerbread coredroid ROM and it worked fine. I just didn't really like the looks of some things, so I thought I'd change to a different ROM.
I thought about flashing the ICS Insertcoin ROM, so I flashed it, and it kept trying to boot, but turned off and kept repeating. But then I read that I was supposed to update the firmware, so I took out the SIM card and connected it to the computer and copied the 3.24 RUU to the SD card.
I followed the instructions and the RUU set up properly through HBoot the first time. Then i went in to recovery to wipe data. It had to reboot the phone before I did anything else, and it went back into HBOOT and tried to install the RUU again, but this time it failed due to CID being incorrect! I didn't give it a second thought, but then the insertcoin ROM was doing the same thing, going through the boot up images and shutting off right in the middle, and repeating.
I tried another ICS ROM, Android Revolution, and same result. Failed booting. Then I tried restoring my nandroid backup from before coredroid, and it also kept trying to boot and then shut down. Then I tried coredroid again, and it had the same reaction, failed booting! I redownloaded the ICS RUU 4 times and repeated this process 4 different times, even with other GB versions of insertcoin and ARHD, and no dice!
I'm not entirely tech savvy, so maybe there is soemthing I havent covered yet. Now the RUU fails not because of CID, but because of incorrect Model ID. I read about goldcards, but I can't make a new one because the phone won't even boot! Please help me!
edit: as of now, the phone does not turn on to any rom or homescreen, ONLY Hboot and recovery.
Hello Jagerlowe,
The 3.24 RUU installs fully with 2 Boots into Bootloader, so there is nothing to be worried about. Here's how you could solve your problem.
1. Please follow step 4 from this Guide to obtain SuperCID, make sure that the SuperCID is 11111111! Mismatch of the SUPERCID causes the Error you were previously facing.
2. With the updated SuperCID, reinstall the latest ARHD 6.2.1 ROM.
3. Boot & flash the suggested radio if you are using the ARHD ROM.
You should be alright
Please keep me posted about your problem and hope it helped!
Remember to Thank me!

I can't quite do that because the phone doesn't turn on. It goes to the boot screen then shuts off. Then turns on, boot screen, off again. So I can't connect it to the computer or do anything like that.

What I am about to guide you through is downgrading your HBoot.
Firstly, download 1.17RUU - CHOOSE WHICH Service Provider, Location (CHOOSE THE RIGHT ONE)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
1. Boot into recovery mode and connect your phone to your computer.
2. Select "mounts and storage"
3. Then select mount sd card.
4. Copy the PG58IMG.zip into the Root of your SD Card.
5. Reboot your phone into bootloader again.
Your phone should automatically prompt you to begin update. After the update,
Your Bootloader should be downgraded. Then Flash a simple - any Gingerbread based ROM, and follow my post on doing SuperCID
Goodluck! Cheers

Hi I have been trying to set up a custom ROM on my HTC sensation because it has the wrong carrier start-up and well.. because they looked pretty cool. I unlocked the bootloader using HTC's instructions found here:
(docs.insertcoin-roms.org/master/en-US/installation/)
I got a insertcoin rom zip and put on my sd card and tried to boot through 'recovery' like the instructions said and keep getting the error picture of the phone and a red triangle with exclamation mark. I searched the forum and people said to do S-off. So I went through revolutionary (revolutionary.io/) and managed to get it to S-off (I didn't realise it would override the unlock I did earlier - are there any issues with doing them both?). I then tried to boot through recovery again to put the ROM on but still get the same error message.
I have looked over the forums and no-one seems to have this kind of error that I could see. Maybe I am missing something? I'm thinking of reverting back to stock if it can't be fixed as I don't want to brick my phone (especially now that my warranty might be void)
Any help would be appreciated! I can provide more info where needed, thanks in advance
What does the bootloader say now - specifically locked, unlocked, revolutionary?
What's the hboot version?
Recovery is working but rom will not boot, right?
The bootloader said 'locked' by default when I got the phone. It then said 'unlocked' when I applied the htc unlock codes and currently it says 'revolutionary' after I did the s-off instructions. HBoot is 1.17.1111
Currently recovery doesn't work. Is there another way around to boot the rom (maybe an easy app or something?). Although there must be something wrong if I can't get into recovery?
I just tried pushing the up volume and power key and got to a new screen from the error screen. It does say 'E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command' at the bottom of the screen though.
Looks like I can access the commands:
'Reboot system now'
'Apply update from sdcard'
'Wipe data/factory reset'
'Wipe cache partition'
Hopefully this is what the user would normally get if they don't have the error screen (red triangle + exclamation mark)
You haven't installed recovery? You can't flash custom ROMS without it.

I do remember something during the revolutionary setup about asking for clockworkmod recovery and put no in the command bar. The youtube clip I was watching didn't say to worry about installing it.
Can I reboot revolutionary or am I best to manually set up clockworkmod recovery? I have seen a way to do it but would prefer to go through the command bar again if that's possible
u can download the recovery and place it on the sd card or push it throught cmd by fastboot usb mode then u can flash all roms u want
What sensation do you have? Xe or normal one.
If you have normal one update the Hboot version to 1.27 by clicking this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618
After going there go to the thing that says this "Firmware from 3.32.401.x & 3.32.401.10x RUU"
Then put it in the root of the SD card not in the downloads section or anywhere else. Then update your Recovery. After that you can rom now.
If you want to rom I highly recommend this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849
When you want to use this rom download the superwipe script first. then flash it
I followed the instructions sent by you guys and am now running ICS on my phone which is a huge difference from stock. I am running the latest insertcoin rom at the moment but might give the one you should be a try in the future. Thanks for the help and the speedy replies

i'm having a similar problem , i unlock my htc sensation z710e , hboot 1.18.000 but i cant s-off it from revoulutionary , it keeps on saying failed to get root, i uninstalled the drivers, htc sync and then got fastboot drivers and then usb debugging was on fastboot was off, i can understand whats the problem any help pleasee????
Hey guys, So I initiated flash today and have come across a slight problem;
I followed the guides on here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...4#post21711154
and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=21989107
I saw that the first thing to have done was install 4ext recovery. I followed the read me and tried the "adb reboot bootloader" but it kept saying device not found. Then I noticed I had it already in my phone, so I ran the backup and it said back up complete. So then I turned off the phone, rebooted into bootloader and waited for the update. However, it said "error invalid CID and can't update. Press power to reboot" It was the only option given. So then, I followed the guide on Kohr-Ah's page and took out the SD card, rebooted into bootloader, went to Recovery, ran superwipe and installed ARHD 6.5.1 with Beats Audio. After everything went done and well, it rebooted and turns on but once the beats logo completes its circle, it gets stuck on the beats page. I ran the wipe again, and reinstalled ARHD and still gives the same result. Any body know how I can solve it?
I also forgot to say that when I try to install the PG581IMG (the firmware) it says:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update package...
Installation aborted.
Update: I cleared cache from 4ext, and reflashed the rom. After rebooting and passing the htc white screen, I'm at a black screen with "android" written across in metallic silver. It has a white flash pass pass through the whole writing. It's been like this for about 15 or so minutes.
your links are pointing no where...404 page not found, if you have a sensation and not a sensation XE your update zip should be called PG58IMG.zip not PG581IMG.zip
but really need to see where your links point to..
Did you flash the firmware for the rom - 3.32? If not this is the cause of the boot loop. Have you got s-off via revolutionary?
Sent from my HTC Pyramid using xda premium
Happened with me....Insert the SD card again which was inside when you flashed ARHD ROM....it will boot.....
Stringer, No I did not before doing the wipe. Something I realized I should have done after I had run Superwipe. But when I do run it it says installation aborted for some reason. I do have S-off via revolutionary. I'd gotten it done the first time when I flashed the custom rom, along with SuperCID.
Ali3nfr3ak, I made a mistake, I do have the PG58IMG file. Sorry bout the links, here they both are: 1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767 and 2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21989107
Mathrania: What do you mean reinsert the SD card? It is inserted, it has been so the whole time, but still gets stuck on the black screen with android on it.
I should put out my Revolutionary
PYRAMID PVt ship s-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.27.1100
RADIO- 10.12.9007.21_2M
eMMC-BOOT
I check the md5sum for the PG58IMG file and it gives the following
fea9240feef50554a17688dc2b1a7bac
However, when I check this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618 that Mike linked for the firmware on his page, I can't file that md5sum nor the file itself. I see that the rom is based on Firmware 3.32.401.5 but I can't even find 5, on that page I see only up to "x" and "10x" that's it. Am I missing something?
I'm sorry for being persistent, but I really need the phone working and I've looked in as many places as I can find to see if some one else had the problem so that I could acquire some help that way. But alas, it came fruitless. Any and all help would be appreciated. I've wiped cache and dalvik cache, but still nothing. It now goes up to the beats screen but gets stuck on that screen.
Okay, lets go back to the basics.
Check everything, make sure you're super CID. You need to flash the correct firmware that the rom needed (go with the 3.32), then delete it from the sd card after flashing. Then, you should superwipe. Then flash the correct ARHD (make sure that you used the ICS one)

I do remember having done super CID, however when I had the PG58IMG in there it would say "incorrect CID" and "update failed" at the bootloader main screen right after scanning and would tell me to "press power button to reboot." I'm not sure which version of the firmware I should have gotten, I have the hboot version 1.27.1100 and am seeing that the guides say to have 3.32.401.5 of the firmware but I couldn't find that version anywhere.
I did just as you said now, and it still got stuck on beats. It's as though it gets stuck right as it's about to load up.

If its saying incorrect CID, then you're not on superCID, because when you are on super cid you can flash any firmware from any region or carrier (correct me if im wrong lol). Check the CID, make sure that its "11111111"

Well that makes sense. Now here's a wee bit of another problem. I can't get cmd to recognize my devices as as per the guide I need to go into usb charge mode, however I can't even get the phone to boot. I'm wondering now if I do a factory reset via bootloader or 4ext if it would reset the whole thing and get back my stock rom and all? As well as if it will delete anything backed up on to the SD card? I can superCID right after and then run the firmware as well as superwipe and ARHD
If any one's around and can help, please don't hesitate. I'm in a bit of a desperate situation as to the solution. May be if I can get the modelid and edit it into the notepad, that would work? Potentially? If there's an actual solution, even better.
Does boot loader work? If so boot that, select fastboot. Does PC recognise phone now?
EDIT: is recovery working?

I went into fastboot and noticed it turn into FASTBOOT USB, I rebooted the system but still froze on the beats screen. Should I fastboot bootloader? PC wasn't recognizing phone at all. I think I should keep it in that fastboot USB menu and then play around with CMD, any thoughts? Recovery? Are you asking about Clockwork recovery? Or 4ext?
OK go back to boot loader, plug into PC and open cmd terminal as admin.
cd to whatever folder your fastboot driver is in and enter "fastboot devices". You should get device and serial no returned.
That shows PC recognises phone.
From there you can boot into recovery (yes CWM or EXT4), wipe everything, superCID, and flash fw/rom.

Thank you, sooo much. So what the reason it wasn't going into Fastboot USB was 1) I had the HTC sync software installed on another computer and not the current one, 2) I didn't have SuperCID but BM__001, and using the other computer I switched it to 11111111. I also was using "adb" as a command on CMD rather than "fastboot" I noticed Fastboot followed by command worked but with adb it wasn't finding the device.
SUCCESS! Phone's now operating. Many thanks to all those who contributed. All I have to do now is restore SMS back up as well as some data back up from 4ext. Should I redownload SMS back and restore to restore or should I do a 4ext restore first and then SMS?
Sorry I fell asleep yesterday, good to know that everything is fine now.
Regarding about you new question, well im not sure about that. Correct me if im wrong, 4ext copies an exact image of what your phone is before you flashed it. So when you recover through 4ext it will turn your phone back to the last rom you used. Im correct? lol

That's quite alright. Actually what happened is I thought I need to go into 4ext and do a recovery, and did so only to brick the phone. SO I reflashed it and installed the ROM again only to find that 4ext automatically reinstalls all apps. It did and I was soo happy. As for my sms messages, I went back to sms back up and restore and restored them. All's well for me right now. Though I'm noticing some lag on the phone itself, in performance, and sending text messages. And especially in the music player.
I'm pretty new to rooting phones.

I didn't install the required firmware. Is there a way to install it on my phone as it's doing the boot loop? I don't know how to get back to any of the hboot screens or clockwork.

Well, there ya go.
Anyhow, it's an incredibly easy fix.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
Go there and download the 3.32 firmware that matches your carrier, not 3.24, not 3.12, but 3.32 - it's the newest one. T-Mobile US, go to T-Mobile, Orange, go to Orange/O2, etc etc.
Next, you'll probably need a SD to microSD adapter. Put the 3.32 PG58IMG file on the root of your SD card (that means don't put it in any folders). Now, with the phone powered off, hold volume down and power until a white screen shows up. It'll ask you to update, agree to it using the volume keys. If it says CID Incorrect or something similar, you downloaded the wrong 3.32 firmware - that's not a problem, but you'll need to find the right one for your phone or perform Super-CID in the stickied root guide (Believe it's step 4).
After that update, it might boot, I'm not 100% sure. If it does, great, remove the PG58IMG and continue on your way. If it doesn't, take out your SD card and power the phone the same way you did before, volume down + power. Then, use the volume keys and power to select RECOVERY. Now, put your SD back in and install the rom from either CWM or 4EXT, whichever recovery you have installed (I recommend 4EXT). Now, reboot, and it should boot. If your Recovery doesn't detect the SD card, use the Reboot Recovery option and it'll show up.
If you don't take the SD card out or delete the PG58IMG by means of a card reader or a buddies phone with a file manager such as OI File Manager, you won't be able to boot into the recovery.
That should just about do it. Report back with questions.
After downloading the PG58IMG file, it says CID Incorrect. I then performed the Super-CID from step 4 and installed the ROM through Clockwork, but the phone is still stuck in a bootloop.

After you performed Super CID, you still need to install the PG58IMG.zip file
After that, connect your SD card to the PC and delete the PG58IMG.zip
Then re-install the ROM.
If you did all of these, then it should boot just fine.
it worked. thanks guys!!
Yeah I should have mentioned that Super-CID just allows you to get passed the CID Incorrect error and flash any PG58IMG file you need. My bad.
that's cool. both of yall were a big help
So a few days ago I rushed into using htcdev to unlock my bootloader without fully researching. I then tried to flash: aospX 1.0.0-MR1 in haste. I couldn't use cwm or ext4 because it stated the phone was not rooted. I assumed since I unlocked the bootloader using htcdev that I wouldn't need either for some reason. I tried flashing the rom using the directions found in glevitan's newbie guide: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30674730/ULTIMATE ACE GUIDE V5.pdf. In the directions that were given on step 5 I just booted in hboot instead of cwm or ext4. So basically what I did is go into hboot and fastboot and tried flashing the boot img.
After that it seemed as though it was flashing but then it went to a picture of a phone with a red exclamation point next to it. Now in the past two days I have been researching how the fix my problem from acting hastily without researching first. None of my research or actions thus far have been able to get me past hboot. I have tried the directions in the following thread and have not been able to fix the issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396229
When I try to reinstall recovery by the directions given in that thread nothing really happens and it just goes back to hboot. When I try flashing the Inspire 4g stock rom in the thread I get error messages in hboot that say invalid image! and it will flash to the white HTC splash screen for a few seconds and then vibrate and go black then back to htc splash screen for a few seconds then back to the picture of a cell phone with a red exclamation point next to it.
The only semi-success I have it trying to flash a RUU (RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_Cingular_US_2.47.502.7_Radio_12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M_release_200368_signed.exe)
But when I try to install the RUU it will install for a few minutes but then I get an error message because it is an older version than I have and wont allow me to "downgrade" because I am currently on 3.20
Any help to try to get this phone back up?
Best guess is (and double check first) relock the bootloader and flash the ruu.

First thing, thanks for the response.
It wont let me flash the RUU, I have version 3.20.xxxx and the only ruu I can find is older versions and it wont allow me to flash an older version. The bootloader is already relocked btw.
I'll get back to you. I have to finish doing a few things that will take me a few hours or maybe more, then I'll see what I can find.

You have a few options. The exclamation point is because you don't have a custom recovery installed. You have to flash it manually ie fast boot flash recovery recovery.img my guide doesn't cover that as it was written before HTC dev method was available. And those in the inspire land were recommended from flashing the eng hboot.
So anyways. You can flash cwr via fast boot, then attempt to flash aospx. BUT I suggest you actually gain soff.
The 3.20 ruu is available straight from HTC website.

Wow can't believe I didn't check there...
Thanks, running the 3.20 ruu at least got me up and running.
Now that your up and running and want to root you should read this.

As the process is a little different now. Should also check out attn1 site for the kit for any updates
