Development own rom - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Hey sgs4g users I want to start developing my own rom so, I want to know what would you like for the rom for example:
Better battery life
More performance
or an cool theme( but I will need a lot of time)
Remember that it's your choice I just want to start in the development section by doing an awesome rom

Reserved just for me

Maybe find a ROM that was not ported yet, and port it.

Always awesome to see more devs
sent from my batcave

Yeah great idea I saw one rom in the galaxy s I9000 forums that it has a lot of stuff the problem it's the rom has the galaxy s kernel so I must see how to removed to put Antox kernel here is the link see if you like the rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626068

It seems based on SGS value pack Erikmm is currently working on. Maybe you can suggest your help.
I meant something like all the MTD ROMs...
for example :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627481
Though I remember seeing some LewaOS discussion but I can't recall seeing ROM posted.

Thanks Lumin, my apologies to Team Kick Ass, anyway it's a good example of a worthwhile ROM to port.

Well if erikmm is currently working on it I will like to help him as much as I can

[Q] Is there anyone running a "custom built" version of CM7 that they could share?
Hi all...
I would like to try a CM7 ROM on my Infuse but I am in no way too technical to make my own from source so...
I am wondering if there is anyone here who has built a nice CM7 from source that could maybe share so I can give it a go???
I hope this is not too much to ask and I thank you in advance...

Thanks for the response but i don't see a d/l link to a specific ROM.
Perhaps I am blind but that is what I'm looking for... a working version that someone has created from source that I can flash via CWM...

If you look through the cm7 thread a few users have posted it. Just that others hate when they do so they discourage it on that thread because they don't want extra bug reports.

No its not that he does not want it posted on that thread, he does not want it posted at all until it is finished.
If you look at other rom threads there are tons of questions that should not have been there. What he is doing is like a semi private beta, it will help fix problems faster without having to answer simple questions. Things like who do I flash this, will it work with this kernel, and such.
Now I am not saying that its not on the web but you will have to find it and not ask for a link.
I dedicated a virtual machine to building CM7, so I can pull from the source rep and do a snapshot build pretty much anytime.
Problem is that we are not supposed to share it. LinuxBozo posted somewhere why this restriction, but I don't recall the link. Maybe someone could remind what the url to that post is.

People, if you want to share your own builds, I can't stop you. Hell, I don't even really care. I just ask if you do share, don't post them in the original thread, and make sure that whoever you are sharing with understands that this is currently not finished, has issues (especially with BT right now), and that unless they know what 'dmesg' and 'logcat' are, they will get absolutely no support from me and are on their own.

You guys have to understand from his point of view. Do u know how many questions or post saying things need to get fixed would pop up the whole reason around building your own from source is that if you can do that you should be able to put out questions and answer that help instead of simple or complex things that have being covered if you have the basic understanding and you can actually help with issues address them correctly ina Manet that helps fix it than its easier to get things sorted out before a release. So he doesn't want them in the original thread. I would suggest if you can find someone to share it since you have the approval now have them pm you not share it over the thread or any other thread and don't share it your self so it doesn't cause the other thread or any other to get cramped with questions that can or can't be answered. So if you get it keep it to yourself to help with that factor

ok, so given that it is better not to post links to home-brew builds on these forums, I figured to put mine here:
http://tools.1url.ws/cm7infuse.php
for who's craving to run CM7 on their infuse, and doesn't have the time/setup/etc. to build it on his own.
All the warnings, disclaimers, etc. stand of course. No support provided, no guarantee I'll build more in the future. As time allows every few days I plan to grab the latest sources and do a new build to post it there.
At this time I'm using the 10/12/2011 build, and aside from the known issues, works pretty well for me. But then again, you might end up having a totally different experience.

Stock/Leak and Custom ROMs forums

Who else wants to see a separate forum for completely stock (maybe also deodexed) roms and leaks, separate from all the custom roms? It might help out newer users who haven't noticed the naming schemes for leaks etc. It could also have a stickied thread guiding them to what's the latest available leak. The dev section is pretty cluttered :/
That definitely sounds like a great idea. Then again, there could also be a compiled list of leaks and deodexed ROMs, just like what Whitehawkx did.
Maybe I'll start working on that this weekend if people actually want it.

I'll let this poll run for another day then I'll contact a mod to see if they can do anything.
That's a good plan and will help all new comers to this forum.
I like it to - maybe if so - have the devs post if the rom is for Froyo or GB ?? Im a noob myself and I understand most - but still trying to figure out all the kernels and differences between KI3 or KG4... and what not.
Ditto.. Would definately help newcomers. It only took me a couple hours to figure things out but I'm sure it would help total noobs....
Vote yay

Porting

I was wondering if there is any other threads that explain porting, I've read through the one in the bible and it seems outdated and looks like no one had any luck with it. Many comments state that op is missing something. And yes I Googled it and all results lead to the bible. I have pm erikmm asking for help since he is the porting god but got no response, not sure if he is getting my messages or if he simply does not care for me, anyway the rom I would like to get ported is based off of AOKP its like Aokp ++. Any help would be appreciated.

Many rom no stable.

I want to thank you all for your hard work but please we commit all to create a single rom stable and efficient, and only after many rom for everyone.
For example, our device is one of the few in its class to not have a regular stable MIUI
Thanks friend :good:

They wont do it just cause someone else is asking them to do it. Every developer develops what is he capable or comfortable developing. U cant tell them what to do . Let them do what they are comfortable doing.
Since the devs are busy on Kernel 3.0 they cant look into this stuff. Maybe later sometime down the lane if they want to they will .
Anyways good luck with Appreciating Devs this way :good:

"We commit all to create a single ROM stable and efficient," Are you making speech here, huh? The Devs are working on it, whatever you said that I quote are every AOSP developers dream.
Everyone here is waiting for the Kernel, if you can help, help them. But if you don't, then stop whining like a 5 years old kid at the candy store.
You know Sammy hate AOSP Developers. If this how you appreciated Developers, get a life! even 5 years old kid won't appreciated their parents this way!
CAN SOMEBODY CALL THE MODS? THIS TOPIC SHOULD BE IN TARTARUS!
Proud owner of Galaxy SL that running on Paranoid Android.
See bro if u want have a stable rom u can certainly have dhiru's cm9. Or u can switch back to ddlf2 in gb.
What you trying to point out is work done by lolation, he ports a rom a day and its brilliant
Our sl is in one of the many devices abandoned by samsung. Other devices have a PROPER STABLE KERNEL (readymade). Which we dont!
But people like dhiru adi and lola have saved our device. You are not paying these developers , they are doing because android is like their passion . If u want a stable rom make it yourself and dont discourage devs!

Building Beanstalk 4.2.2?

I have zero experience building roms but i have recently switched from an Infuse 4G running the Beanstalk rom from scott.hart.bti. The rom has amazing customizations and too many features to list. It is based on CM10.1. I was hoping maybe somebody could help me port it over to the skyrocket. The beanstalk thread does have instructions for porting to other devices but having zero experience in doing so i thought i should ask for some help and see what other people are willing to do on this as well. The thread is here ->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2091900

I did read through that i just wasn't sure if i should post this here or in that thread. I was sort of hoping that somebody who knows how to do this stuff might try to build it as i cant even attempt to start for about a month as i am in the process of moving across the country. Figured if maybe people saw how many options there are in this rom it might spark some interest and get some more variety of roms to choose from (not that the roms available aren't already awesome )

I did notice, I just didn't think you'd appreciate someone else doing your job for you.
Lets keep on topic here ... if the mods want to move this, that's up to them.
And speaking of on topic, build is just about done. Had to restart it twice for a couple minor things that I messed up with the device specific inclusions. The vast majority of packages built just fine though, so it should be too much longer.
I also elected to build it with the Marla kernel, not the stock CM10.1 kernel.
