Boot animations wont work - tried everything - General Questions and Answers

Before i start i just wanted to let you guys know, i did my best to search around the forum using the search bar and manually, read all of the guides and tut's, read other peoples problems and tried their solutions
nothign seems to be working.
im on a Pantech Sky Vega IM-A650S.
i followed the tutorials located
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1702625
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27477164#post27477164
but nothing seems to be working. my phone is z4rooted, and now when my phone boots its just black and plays the original boot sounds.
im doing this through the ROOT EXPLORER method,
i was trying to get the alienware boot animation someone created here to work on my phone and it just stays black.
i have stretched the images like in the tutorial, used the "imageresizer/Boot animation Creator"
i place it on my sdcard, then click mount r/w and move it to the media folder where it replaces the original bootanimation.zip
- in an attempt i actually tried renaming it just to "bootanimation" (without the .zip) and placing it in my "bins" folder because i noticed that there was a file there as well. looks like it made my situation worse.
all i really want to do is learn that way i can start making boot animations other people may want to use.
0 i know it was stupid of me not to make a backup of the original bootanimation, but i have the files needed to factory reset this phone.
the resolution is 480 x 800 ( i tried this resolution as well as the others )
Help would be greatly appreciated, i only ever ask a question once and thats when im at a complete loss
Thank You Xda-Developers!

i know its redundant
Up, hope its just something simple im forgetting to do,
this is in the right section right? thanks

try this...

thanks
so it could possibly be due to the program im using? ill go ahead and give it a try right now, thanks for the quick reply
- just installed i see that its kind of a manager for boot animations, but how would i get that specific boot animation to work.?
didnt really like the boot animations on the list, but thanks.
any other suggestions?
would i be making a mistake when stretching the pictures? other than that the program listed in the link above pretty much does everything for you
wonder why it wont work :s
didn't work still displaying black when the phone is booting. even with the program,

Bump, I'm on the same situation. Even the app for the bootanimations wont play the selected animation.
I'm trying via terminal, pushing the zip through the ADB, I've just modified the stock bootanimation images and saved as PNG-8, zipping the folfer with 7-Zip and selecting store instead of compressing...
Thanks for the help!

try flashing another rom, which supposts them

[GUIDE] How to customize a ROM

I've been getting a lot of messages asking, 'How do you create ROM's?' Well, I got so many I decided to make this. This process is called cooking a ROM.
The first thing you have to do is get a ROM that's already been created and signed that you'd like to change around. Make sure it's a signed update.zip. Then, you unzip the rom, and you should see directories, like data/ and system/. If you want to add/remove applications in the ROM, you would goto data/app/. In there you will find the apk's of files that will be pre-installed on the ROM. You can add or remove the apk's there. Another place for the apk's is in /system/app. You really shouldn't put new apk's in here, but you can remove the system apk's. So, if you wanted to remove Sprint TV, delete Sprint_tv.apk. Also, the apk's can be treated as zip's; you can unzip them and look inside, and if you wanted to, change around the icon's and stuff like that. After you are done changing around the ROM, you might want to edit the build.prop (This part is optional!) You would find it in system/build.prop. Look for a line that says 'ro.build.description='. You can edit that with the name of your ROM. When your all done, you would zip it all back up, and sign the update.zip. On windows, this is pretty easy. Download flipz pre-kitchen, and use a setting in tools called something like sign apk/update.zip. Navigate to where you put your rom, and sign it. Then, your rom should be ready to flash.
This is also a good post to read:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551711
Notes:
*DO NOT* TRY TO FLASH A GSM ROM TO A CDMA HERO!
If you edited a apk, make sure to sign it before zipping it and signing the update.zip.
If you have any problems, I created a IRC channel for this, so I can give live support:
server: irc.bikcmp.info port 6667 (port 6670 for SSL)
channel #hero-cdma
If you don't have a IRC client, use mibbit:

Thanks for the guide, what I really like is the irc, I think we should have had one of these up for awhile now, it would help keep the clutter in the forums down.

What's even better is it's being DDoSed. . Anyone got a spare server? LOL.
But seriously, DDoS'es ARE NOT COOL.
Alright, I've got my ROM made and everything -- signed it as well. I put it on my SD Card, and its flashes successfully -- but now I'm stuck at the HTC Screen?
I took the battery out; went back into recovery and Wiped and formatted my SD Card, and flashed again (successful), but still stuck on HTC screen?
Any ideas?

I think this is crazy awesome to give a small how to on 'cooking' ROMS....I've always been interested! However what are DDoS'es....if it's all good to ask?
I don't have linux on my windows laptop...but do I need to get a dual boot/OS on my laptop to get this running. Last I knew, Linux and Windows were not friends...?

What ROM did you start with...? Did you do all kinds of crazy stuff to it? I found a ROM, downloaded it and opened it....saw a bunch of stuff in there that the OP described. Not quite sure what is game to pull and what is cool to add...?

Alright -- this is what I did.
1. I made a new folder called Penguin
2. Took Gumbo1.5c and unzipped it
3. Moved all the stuff from Gumbo to Penguin
4. Began removing apps I didn't want in /system/app
5. Added some apps in /data/app
6. Added a white taskbar to its respective dir
7. Added Espresso -- again to its respective dir
8. Added the 2.1 Icons
9. SIGNED the new zipped folder (Penguin) successfully
10. Copied to SD Card
11. Flashed successfully
12. When I reboot, I stuck at the HTC Screen (I waited about 2 and half minutes)
Steps I've taken to solve:
1. Removed battery
2. Wiped
3. Formatted card
4. Flashed again
5. Stuck again at HTC (again 2 minutes or so, until removing battery again)
5. Stuck again

DDoS is a denial of service attack. They are attacking my server and also my home network. I've got a lot of it cleared out, but still a lot of IP's doing it. Also, try Wubi for that Linux and windows issue.
Should you have waited longer than 2 and a half mins? I flashed Godzson Dialer and rebooted and it took 5 or 6 mins to boot, and when it did...I was happy.
Not sure if you took too much out or added something you shouldn't have, or just perhaps didn't wait long enough for it to boot.
...OH Wait, you mean that HTC symbol at the very begining..........gotcha now! I at least was on the nexus bootscreen when I waited.
Hope you get an awnser soon, I am looking forward to playing around and perhaps cooking up something good of my own

Exactly what I was saying, 2 minutes isn't enough for the first boot. It takes 5 or maybe even 10!

Here is a good list of Apps/Apks I found to help out some who don't know what to remove without causing a slew of FC's......if anyone knows of anymore that are safe, please keep this "How To" going strong!
APPS that are SAFE to remove
Question....where would the respective 'dir' be for throwing 2.1 icons into a ROM while cooking...? data/apps?
I'm honestly trying to google all my questions as well as search this forums threads....but sometimes I don't get the answer I need

The directory that the 2.1 icons should go in is /system/app/
Lets say I want to change the Browser.apk icon. I would pull it, open it as a zip file, look for ic_laucher.png (or something of this sort) -- and replace this file with the newly created icon (has to be the SAME name as the original file), you'll copy this new "icon" into the original dir, overwriting the changes -- and that's it.

Have you tried just opening the zip, editing the name and files inside the zip, then resign it an flash. I ran into problems when I tried to take the files out and make my own.

What files exactly are you saying I should edit? I'm up for any ideas -- I'm definitely going to get this to work, I want to contribute damn it!!
I just downloaded a ROM and took some apks that were on the "SAFE" list to remove from the link in the above post. Replaced some apk files with the 2.1 icons....using the same name as the ones I replaces (so I'm not 'adding' anything new)
Renaming my ROM and then zipping it up to flash. (doing it now, and if that works....then I will play with it a little more and see how far I can get until it does not boot)
HOPEFULLY this boot with what I've just done....lol. I should, I've done nothing really...

Easy way to change your bootscreen *Updated 4/11/11* Pushboot 3.0!!!

Well, people keep posting in this thread so I figured I would do a very very large update. I know its been 7 months, and for that I apologize, been very busy and this wasn't a priority.
Now, its one version of Pushboot for everyone. Load it up, follow the directions and you should be set.
Remember to start you need:
-HTC Drivers installed
-A working bootanimation.zip
-An mp3 file if you want boot sound
-Your phone plugged in to the usb port (lol)
-Only ONE .zip and/or .mp3 in the folder containing pushboot
Other than that, I included everything needed to make this work.
Any issues let me know and I can try to help you out!
And leave feedback and if you like this, press the thanks button on this post =D

Thanks a lot for this. might come in handy.

Personally, I found the batch process that you created very useful. Thank you OP.

Thanks OP. Helped me a lot.

I changed PushBoot so everything needed is included.
Basically, upzip, put your zip file (and if you want an mp3 file) into the folder
plug in your phone
open pushboot.bat
follow the prompts
(make sure that when the phone goes into recovery that you wait till it connects to your pc before continuing)
and you should have a custom boot animation and boot sound!
Any problems, let me know
I also included the dancing android bootscreen and the nexus one bootscreen.

i'm getting no audio on pushboot2 and i'm fully rooted. at the end i just see echo then echo then the program closes. no reboot is done to my phone.
well first of all I JUST reuplaoded a new zip, so get that (forgot to hide all the random code)
also, I assume you put an mp3 in the folder right?
and to reboot you have to choose reboot in your recovery on the phone

I cant get mine to work, it placed my boot stuff in the media folder
where does the bootanimation.zip have to be because it keeps saying that it missing. Where does the bootanimation have to be on my computer or sdcard?
Keep up the good work, I like the ease of the process.
Re: Easy way to change your bootscreen *updated for fullroot!*
On your computer in the same folder as pushboot.bat is where the bootanimation.zip and SPC_animation_final.mp3 has to be.

OP ~ Thanks for spending your time putting this script together. I've learned from it. I also showed it to my friend who just picked up an EVO and he's now learned a bit about ADB as well.
Very useful, thank you very much. timothydonohue: lol.
OP you have any composed boot screens we could try out with this trick? I mean I'd like to see if I can follow your steps with a good working bootimg. before I go trying to make some of my own....baby steps for me
Also TimD, brother you need to chill out and stop drinking 5 hour energy..... this is the correct place for this post not buried in 700 pages of the detritus that fills most of these threads.

Endless bootanimation

Big BIG problem.
Infotmic FlyTouch 3, temporary root using Z4root.
Replaced boot animation using this tutorial:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-change-customize-create-android-boot-animation-guide/
Used this bootanimation.zip file - AndroidParticles2:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19412696/480x800_AndroidParticles2.zip
Got it from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905538
I put the ZIP file in this folder: /system/media/ - that was probably a very stupid ideea.
Now the tablet is not getting past the boot animation.
In the middle of the animation, there's a 1-2 seconds pause, white screen instead of android robot.
Endless bootanimation loop.
Of course, tried hard reset. Of course, it did not help.
Probably, all my apps and bookmakrs are gone.
Probable solution: flash a custom ROM. But that's really scary.
Any other ideas? Please help, I'm desperate.
Hate to ask, but did you flash Clockwork Mod Recovery before doing this? Any chance you made a nandroid backup (or even titanium) of your data? If not, you may have lost your stuff. I'm not at all familiar with your phone though.
If all else fails, you could try a program like android explorer (or similar...just search around XDA). I had luck with this previously recovering from a bootloop. It will sometimes recognize your phone (even while bootlooping) and you can go into the files and replace the boot animation with the original. I once tried flashing CWM from this program while bootlooping...and it worked!
Good luck!
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA Premium App
No backup, no nothing.
Only temporary root using z4root, copy bootanimation.zip to system/media, reboot.
And it's not a phone, it's a tablet.
I dont' care about the apps and data, I already did a hard factory reset and they're gone.
But the system/media folder content is still there.
Fixed it myself.
Flashed Tim ROM
Then fixed 576 resolution. Even tough Elixir and webpage specs say it has 600 resolution !!

Could someone make this a bootanimation?

Alright, I have several friends who want the same thing, so it would not be just for me (and it might convince a few people to get an Android phone ). But if someone could make this a bootanimation (AOSP, Landscape), I would be ETERNALLY grateful. I would not be able to compensate you financially, but if there would be anything I could do for you all you would have to do is ask*
So, can anyone help?

I'm on Sense, and I tried it with my Rom and it worked/ran like a champ. It's in Landscape. It's late so I didn't try do any audio with it, but if you wanted to, you could probably easily pull that song from the video and simply rename it/push it. IF it doesn't work, it's most likely because I messed up the desc.txt.. Let me know and I will try to fix it ASAP.
Anyways, let me know if it works.. Going to bed.

Edit: it didn't work
I'll get it working for you, it's an easy fix. It's working on my phone right now. I actually forgot to replace the one I did last night for you with my original one. Rebooted my phone this morning and your boot animation played.
Working on it now, and I'm going to flash over to CM7 really quick to make sure it boots like it should.
Edit - http://www.mediafire.com/?z47q232h8h4tfia I accidentally uploaded it with the Sense desc.txt. It's fixed in that version. Also, on my Sense Rom when I ran it, it went through the entire animation fine and looped the last ending I have it set to. On the empty CM7 rom I tested it on, it booted really quickly because it had virtually nothing to load, so it didn't make it through the entire animation. Let me know if it makes it through all of it on yours.

I believe you rename it to SPC_Audio_Final.mp3 but I'll have to double check to make sure. I never use Audio on mine.
If you want, you can find root explorer and then use that to move the files throughout the phone. It's an application for android. ADB will work as well, there are plenty of tutorials as to how you set it up.
The commands are..
ADB push bootanimation.zip /System/media
That should be where yours is located. If you find that root explorer application, you can do it all from your phone through the menus. Just copy/paste. The audio file should go to the same place as the boot animation.

HOW TO: Changing The Boot Animation On The MetroPCS Variant Of The LG STYLO 3 PLUS

Has anyone figured out a way to replace the stock MetroPCS boot animation?
Although I'm rooted and using the Tried & True method of renaming the stock animation to ".bak" and replacing it with the Nougat (or any other for that matter) animation (as well as setting permissions) does not work.. It's as if MetroPCS has a "fallback" boot animation hidden somewhere..
Even deleting the stock animation does not stop the MetroPCS animation from engaging.
Any Help Would Be Appreciated.

And where can you find boot animations to flash for the lg Stylo 3 plus?
Can someone give detailed instructions on how to do this because I've tried myself I went to system/Op but really don't know what to select from there and exactly what to do. I was going to use the Jay rummy app boot animations to change the animation but I keep getting an error. I'm pretty Savvy on most things but this is something I've never done before so I'm definitely a noob to doing this. Thank you and any help would be appreciated.

(Root required, obviously)
Now hop into your root browser (any root browser should be fine)
(Optional but recommended)Firstly, get ROM Toolbox Lite, go to the interface tab, tap the bootanimation button. Go to top right 3 dots for options, create backup. This way if you decide not to use custom anymore youll be able to go back stock without having to reflash firmware and losing root ect..
I found that there are 3 locations for boot animations.
The one most know of is the standard /system/media
Delete the bootanimation.zip out of there.
Then we have another in /system/OP/MPCS_US/poweron
Delete that bootanimation.zip also.
Now with that done, on boot it should default to the 3rd i have not seen mentioned yet, /data/local which will simply display an image of the word android.
Now, get yourself back into ROM Toolbox Lite.
Under the interface tab, you will see boot animations. Go ahead on into that. Now you will have access to many different boot animations. I find the ones labeled with tablet seem to come in best resolution. Click one. Youll see an option to resize. Tap that. Resize to 1080x1789.
Now normally when trying to use this app to load a boot animation, it would default to /system/media, which of course would fail on this phone because of the /system/OP/poweron copy we normally would have to go into a root browser and copy/paste our /system/media bootanimation.zip to the OP/poweron. BUT, we deleted both of those. So now the toolbox app defaults to /data/local, our last remaining location.
Tap install on your 1080x1789 resized choice of boot animation, and after toast for super user permission shows, feel free to reboot.
*note* i have found a few of these boot animations simply do not work. Still working on the why, and work arounds for those ones with issues, but for the most-part you should be all set with this.
This method of deleting both /system bootanimation.zip is merely to force it to boot from /data/local on boot, and to make the toolkit to default to that location, this way you save the step of having to go in root browser and copy/paste every time you change your boot animation.
Hope it helps. Thank me if it works out for you
They probably don't work because of resolution. I used to be mad into this
