Hey Guys,
I have a Nexus S GT-i9023. I was running KangyU 2.2.1 and it was working just fine till last night. This morning when I woke up suddenly everything was in landscape mode. I checked the auto rotate was off I turned it on but it wasn't rotating back to portrait. So at the advice of a friend I switched(did a factory reset, wiped dalvik, cache etc) over to Cyanogenmod and that issue is fixed but now my PC won't detect my phone. It says charging but the "Turn on USB storage doesn't come up" Please help
Thanks in Advance
P.S. I also scanned my device with AVG free from the market and there is no virus either :'(
It was working brilliantly till last night!
Turn off fastcharge? Have a look around as I'm unsure where it is on cm9. Nstools may be useful.
There is no fastcharge in NSTools or in the Settings.
And one more thing my phone said charging from USB sometime back when I connected it to my charger
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA
Odd. Don't know what it could be but it's probably just a ROM issue of some sort.
No that can't be it. I used CM9 for around a month before switching to Kangy. Thanks anyhow

Best way to find out is to do a full wipe (data/factory reset, format /system, format /boot) and flash a stock ROM. Might even be a corrupted flash.
Oh, and one more thing. Try going into settings -> storage --> menu --> USB Computer Connection. This might have your answer, though unsure if CM9 even has this.
To flash a stock rom I need to put it on my phone which doesn't seem possible at this time! Or should I try mounting via CWM?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA
Mount via CWM, of course. Or you can do what i do and setup file shares on your computer and access it through ES File Explorer or similar apps.
Sounds interesting. Can you explain it in detail ?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA
Depends on operating system. In windows i've made several user and admin accounts with varying permissions, one of which i use only to login via my phone. I've setup all folders i wish to share (or entire drives with the right user account) through windows sharing (not wizard sharing or whatever it's called).
After this is all setup how i like it, ES File Explorer has a window to access network shares. I put in the IP address of my desktop (which is internally static), username and password for the account i want permissions for (for safety saved passwords have minimal access) and then i can open, modify and transfer files both ways as i please, based on the permissions the user account has, all from my phone. Works incredibly well and saves me plugging it in 30 times a day, plus i have general access to the main PC remotely around my house.
Oh so something like TeamViewer? Or dropbox. I can flash the Stock ICS ROM available on xda right?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA
Stranger issue has come up now. Whenever I plug in my USB , my fone automatically starts Car-Home and goes into Car mode
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA
Here is what you want. Grab the Recovery Flashable ROM of your choice. Keep in mind that when you reboot into android it will flash stock recovery - delete /system/etc/install-recovery.sh on boot to stop this (you'll need root for this).
It's not like teamviewer or dropbox. It also does not use the internet - only the internal network. Search around for SMB or CIFS, as well as Windows File Sharing (for windows) and Samba (for linux). It's the same system that lets you share printers to multiple computers and setup a school/university/work network with all user data stored on a mostly remote server rather than on each workstation so it's accessable from any workstation connected to the local network.
I have a stock Gingerbread backup I had taken while rooting my phone. Will that work?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA
It will work, but there's nothing quite like pure, unadulterated stock android to troubleshoot with.
Okay I'll try it and let you know.
So what all do I have to wipe to ensure perfect installation?

Just those 3 and it'll be as clean as it'll ever be. I have to get going though, hopefully it works.
Okay I'll do it and hopefully it works ^_^

Even mounting via CWM doesn't work :'(
I'm kind of scared right now. I'm scared to even flash stock fearing it won't boot :/
no bro it's still not working. Flashed stock GB it's still not working the USB mount. So it looks like a hardware problem doesn't it? Sadly it was working this morning when I transferred Kangy's 3.1 Update.

Can I ask you a question. I've been having problem for almost a week now, and it's driving me crazy. I'm using the latest DamageControl ROM, with Aloysius Theme. Deodexed. Theme works perfectly, but every time I've tried to include his Clear Taskbar or Black Taskbar, Connect to PC causes a fast quickboot. Either from pulling out my usb cable or choosing an option from Connect to PC, freezes then fast quickboot. I've tried numerous methods, with no answer. Do I need to try via ADB then?

this is a software problem. i have seen many posts about it. there are also random reboots, not just when you plug into usb.normally its a rogue app or a mixture of apps along with current rom. Unless you did not wipe before flashing your newest rom, then that could be the culprit.

there is also an app called root explorer in the market, that will allow you to edit the os from the phone itself(one of the most useful apps out there). I think thats what i use most once its on the phone. before that i just edit the rom before i flash it. also, if the mod is not based on the rom you had previous, i would HIGHLY suggest wiping, to avoid problems. Good Luck, its not hard, if you need further assistance feel free to pm.
can anyone with a rogers one x please send me the following files from the stock rom??
3 files
- android.policy.jar - from the folder - /system/framework/
- synaptics-rmi-touchscreen.kl - from the folder - /system/usr/keylayout/
- qwerty.kl - from the folder - /system/usr/keylayout/
Screwing around with removing the 3 dot menu, ect, didn't work, and being the genius I am, I didn't save the original
Tried master reset, this doesn't affect these changes, and right now my windows 8 laptop wont allow me to load the drivers needed to run HTC Sync, and flash the stock RUU; figure this way should be a good work around, saves me waiting till I get to a Win 7 PC to do set my system.
Appreciate any help, Thanks
Another fun fact I found during this operation....apparently the master reset does wipe out your backed up data in Titanium Back up. Not terribly happy about that, now I've got to do a complete rework of my setup, cuz everything is gone.....

Tried this, can't load the drivers cuz I'm running the pre-beta version of Win 8, and they wont run on this system. Need to get access to a Win 7, or older, PC to run the flash....
I've tried 2 of the 3 methods, dropping the recovery image file into my root folder, it rebooted my system, but didn't load the bloat I would have expected from the stock rom, and my buttons are still not working.
The second method is the ARU wizard, but without the drivers, I couldn't locate my phone.
Last method is the fast boot, but again, no drivers, no boot.....
Kind of screwed here right now.....

To whom ever can help out, I have a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, and cannot seem to get my problem resolved by myself. I have somehow inadvertently managed to install an update.zip that had or had no relations to this particular OS of this particular model of android.
My problem is that I wanted to be able to, migrate my apps to the external SdCard or extSdCard, and I think I used an update.zip designed for the cellphone HTC Evo 4g. Not realizing that I will be later unable to use the restore feature from a previous backup I had made using CWM 6.0.1.0 to recover from my inadvertent mistake (not to comfortable making a backup, and thinking I can restore properly anymore, like I can on my cellphone that I am spoiled with).
Silly of me to think I could use an update.zip designed for another type of device such as the HTC Evo 4g, but… (anyway my bad what was I thinking…?). The update.zip, by the way is "dtapps2sd-2.7.5.2-signed", like I mentioned this is clearly designed for the HTC Evo 4g, and not for the Samsung GT2 7.0.
The problem I experience now is not complete lose of my GT2 7.0 device I can still install and change out OS through the CWM-Recovery and install apps through the Android Market. I do however experience the inability to check my Storage properties under my Settings profile. When I attempt to click on this link it pauses for a second as if it wants to open up and perform its normal function, then reports an error "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped". Now at this point this is where I would have to mention another issue similar to this one, and that is at startup. When I first start the device up and it runs through its process of startup configuration. It will then report a list of programs that are prevented from running properly it as follows;
Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped.
Unfortunately, My Files has stopped.
Unfortunately, Factory Test has stopped.
Unfortunately, MTP has stopped.
Now my question is, how is-it possible to resolve this issue. I have tried to complete a fresh install of the OS, CWM-Recovery, and also attempted to wipe everything possible that the recovery will allow, but I am not expecting much, as I cannot even get the backup and restore feature to work efficiently enough to provide me with what I need it to do…
I have provided this post with a download of the update.zip I used as well as the version of the OS I have provided my Samsung GT2 7.0. If anyone can shine some insight on what direction I should attempt to do to resolve this issue I would be more that interested to take a look at what I could use to correct this error of mine…
-Samsung GT2 7.0 - OS (Use the Download link above the Rosewell signature)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784318
-dtapps2sd-2.7.5.2-signed
http://www.mediafire.com/?7jpc5oudzt6o76p
I might be comfortable to ADB Shell into my device to make changes, or if one was able provide me an update.zip/script that would be great. Also is there a better recovery out there than the ClockWorkRecovery.
Better recovery so you may try twrp or so

Factory reset in stock recovery. So Odin a stock Rom and before u install anything custom, do a factory reset in recovery after u Odin back to stock. Then flash away.
I imagine you have alrdy tried a factory reset using a custom recovery.
WAIT!!! You don't have to factory reset, just reboot into CWM recovery ang go to mounts and storage>wipe internal storage. Confirm and reboot. You will lose anything on the sdcard but your apps will stay.

1. I am all over the Factory resets, and wipes.
2. Already tried Stock Rom(s).
3. I believe my problem is a bootloader, or partitioning script. (As this denies me access from inside settings>storage where I can view my allocated size, and Restore to Factory button. In addition in CWM, I am not allowed to mount/sdcard(internal), extSdCard is ok though. Also, I cannot plug Tab via USB to check contains on Internal or External sdcard, but I can remove the External to transfer data from it via sdcard slot on PC...)
Maybe you can recommend a good Stock Rom, so I can give that ago...
I was in the process last night, and could not get a good connection with Heimdall or Odin. I am now looking into driver issues, so...
Ok, so I was successful in taking RomsWell and MultipleMonomials advice, and was able to return my device back to "Normal" state, including "Stock Recovery". But I still have the original problem as in my request I asked in my first post...

I think now, if I cannot get a sizable remedy..., is just to try and send it in Samsung so they can take a look at it...
Any suggestions...?
FYI; I have also tried connecting to Kies, but due to the inability to posses a "MTP" (Media Transfer Protocol), is the reason I cannot connect to my SdCard & extSdCard. I can "PTP" (Picture Transfer Protocol) into it, using "adb shell", but not using "MTP"...
So I do not know how much "MTP" has to do with this relationship of the other three items that I mentioned in my bullet list in my quote, but...
Anyway, I don't know what I am trying to say, but thank you two, for getting me this far...!

I am not quite confident on how much this will work. As I have tried this multiple times to wipe "Wipe Factory/Data", "Wipe Cache", including all the partitions under the "Advance" section found in CWM Recovery. Even using TWRP Recovery.
Per this post; I just attempted to flash a "Stock Rom", but not before doing a factory/data, cache wipe using "Stock Recovery", including after a successful install...
No luck, the same problem still exist as above...
Ok, this was all just the rudest experience I put my self threw. As I have an HTC Evo 4g - cellphone and have become comfortable with installing ROM's, Kernels, and Updates.zips, as well as, other modification. All threw the Recovery designed for this particular device, and don't get me wrong there has been a couple of times. Maybe more than a couple, more like a few times I have installed incompatible downloads I find in the XDA forums. Which makes this screw up, difficult form me to know that as long as you can get into a Download/Bootloader or a modified Recovery designed for a particular device that was successful flashed correctly. Well the screw up are easily redeemed/recoverable.
So, to make a long story short. After having called Samsung Customer Care (the 1-800-SAMSUNG) number, it seems to have been a External SdCard getting in my way from having been real short from sending my Tab off to the repair department (where ever it is...). I in fact already had it in an envelope, all I needed was an address to send it to. Anyway the nice person on the other side of the phone requested that I remove my External SdCard, and confirm that I was able to get into my "Storage" tab under my settings. Well after success getting this option back, I then made the suggestion that maybe my Eternal SdCard is corrupt or incorrectly formatted. She then agreed maybe this is the case. After ending the phone call. I quickly restarted my Tab, again only to find out that I was no longer receiving the error messages like mentioned above, which is great, because after multiple flashes of "Stock Roms w/Stock Recovery", and forcing myself to believe that it was a system install error. It in fact the External SdCard in place preventing me from throwing my Tab against the wall / in the mail to Samsung Repair Center...
"Man what an ordeal...!!!"
Thanks to all that helped with the suggestions, as to what direction I most defiantly tried.
I am now in the process, since I am living back in Stock mode. To receive an OTA (Over The Air) Update, and am still in the process of seeing if this thing still possess any residual silent errors...
I will keep you posted.
If not, well it off to happy rooting for me...!!!
That is it, my problem is resolved. Damnedest thing this problem of mine, it seems the only thing I screwed up was the micro SdCard. to the point it was the cause of all the error I received when I started up the device, as well as when I attempted to access my storage through me settings options...!!!
Now re-rooted, and a happy camper, Cheers...!
Hello,
yes this has probably been a problem to many people, but I couldn't find a solution for my case.
I flashed a ROM and forgot to backup my files before, so now my whole photos and files I need are gone.
I am looking for a solution to restore deleted photos on my nexus 5. I obviously can't use generic recovery methods because, well, I don't have a sd card to pull out and plug into my computer.
is there a app / method to recover deleted files directly on the nexus (over adb?)?
Paid solutions are welcome too!
Check this thread, has a topic on OTG, which happens to allow mounting as usb storage. Might do the trick.
Hmm the OTG part is about mounting devices on the nexus. I want it the other way around, mount it on my mac and run recovery software on it.
Any ideas on that?
Can't be done.

You've mentioned, " I don't have a sd card to pull out and plug into my computer", actually, you could apply to some app that could identify your device directly.
Here is an Android Data Recovery Mac that may help. You can also google other apps if you need.
So I got a new Nexus 5 yesterday, its pretty neat and fast but I've run into a pickle, first thing I did after open it was to unlock it, then I mess up a little and had to reflash the factory image, then what I did was to flash recovery again and root it, after that I pushed a backup I had from the entire sdcard partition from my previous phone... Everything seems to be working great but... the camera seems to be working, I can see through the camera but when I take pictures, they aren't displaying in the gallery, I don't even know if they are being recorded, I can't even take pictures with other apps. I imagine it must has something to do with the permissions but I'm not sure how to fix it, can you guys help?

You need to wipe the storage again, then when you say push, don't use adb in recovery as this will screw your permissions and even prevent things writing. You'll have to boot into android, connect as an MTP device and drag accross via windows that way,.
Hope this helps.
I would start over again and not copy the entire sdcard partition. I have no idea what your other phone was and even if it had all the right folders to begin with, let alone what the permissions are
