Sound fix Request - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

So recentley i updated my Sky ICS to release 5 and 16ish. I realised i had no sound. So i found a way to get them back. On the forum it says to go into the 16ish.zip and pull out the media file and paste it on your sd. So i did. I put the ringtones in the ringtones folder, the alarms in the alarms folder, and the notifications in the notif.
My problem is the UI's. I can't put the ui sounds in the ui file.
i found a way to fix it but i dont know how. i'm currently using astro file manager as well as SManager.
i go into /system/media/audio/ui and i try to paste it but neither program allows me to.
So what i was wonder is if some one can help me push it through adb or if they could create a fix.zip that all i have to do is flash it so that it can push the ui's

Use root explorer to copy.

Jnewell is right. Use root explorer. At the top, click mount R/W to gain read/write permission and paste them in. Have fun!

Thanks so much guys everything is working perfectly with all the sounds

[Q] How to enable boot audio with CM

Sorry if this doesn't belong here, I can change audio easily with stock based roms but nothing I've found is working for CM based roms, preferably CM9 if possible. I don't know anything about this, looked up multiple threads none worked I tried the changes they said, editing lines in build.prop, init.local.rc and a way that says to run a script in Android terminal, everything is added/modified I get no audio still

There are no nightlies for CM9
Tried a few more things can someone help or is it not possible? Don't think I've ever had a cm based rom have on/off audio

There's an app called BAC lite, it shows an option to install boot audio binary and tells to use android_audio.mp3 in /system/media/ I haven't tried it with an MP3 or even a properly named ogg but I'd say to give it a shot for a possible quick, easy fix.
Did it work?

I couldn't get it to work, app changed boot animation fine but when I tried audio it said it installed the file but still heard nothing during boot
Can't remember where I found this procedure but it does work for me using CM7. I would guess it would work for CM9 and above as well.

Another user asked for this, and I helped him through it, so I decided to post it here so everyone can have access to it. I didn't create the file, just came across it one day being bored..I digress.

*NOTE: Anything in brackets is either description of what is happening or an action you need to perform; don't type in anything in brackets*
What you need to do to get a boot sound on CM7/AOSP is the following.
1. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19699565/bootsnd.sh Apparently some people had issues with the first link, so I uploaded it again. Download that file, place on your sdcard.
2. Take whatever sound you want and rename it to: android_audio.mp3 [needs to be mp3 format] and save it to the system/media folder using a file manager that lets you access system directories. I use Root Browser Lite (you can get from Play Store).
3. On your phone, open terminal emulator, and type in the following:
su [enter]
cd /sdcard [enter] *you can store the bootsnd.sh file to any folder on your SD card, so use this command to navigate to it*
ls [to list all files, you should see bootsnd.sh]
sh bootsnd.sh [enter]
You won't see a confirmation, or message, it just runs, and returns you to a # sign.
Reboot, and enjoy your boot sound.
*NOTE*
If you flash / change roms, you'll have to re-run the process to enable the boot sound again. If you get tired of it / don't want it, you can use root explorer and delete the file.
If your having trouble getting sounds to play this should fix the problem.

Here is how to fix it.
Make sure you are mounting in R/W mode on each of these steps.

Delete any instances of it.
Using a app like root explorer, goto /system/bin and delete the file bootsound.
Back out to /system now open build.prop in text editor mode, look for this text.
Code:
ro.config.play.bootsound=1
Delete it from the build.prop and save and exit.
This is optional but recommened.
Reboot phone.
Verify no sound is playing.
Now run the script again and reboot.
You should have a boot sound again.

Delete system ringtones/notifications/alarms?

I have a bunch of different notifications and ringtones I'd like to use, but I cant insert them into the default directory along with the other ringtones. Is there anyway to do this?
Are you rooted? If so, you can use root explorer or es file explorer to mount /system as writable (I assume you are rooted if you know where to put the files) then copy your files.

So through Clockwork, I know how to mount /system, but then what? Do i start the phone as normal to get to the OS, and do my file swapping from there?
Or do I need to do something else?
**** i didnt see the part about Root Explorer. I'm download ES right now.
Why do you want to put it in your system folder and not on your SD card? Every time you flash a new nightly or release you'll have to put them there again.
No one ever uses ADB anymore for some reason, but if you're running windows you can create a batch file to delete the stuff you don't want and the push your files to the media folder. I have a batch file I run after every nightly to remove a lot of junk, here is the commands I use for the sounds. I don't push any sounds to the media folder b/c they are all on my sd card.
Code:
adb shell rm -f /system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg
adb shell rm -f /system/media/audio/ringtones/*.ogg
adb shell rm -f /system/media/audio/notifications/*.ogg

You can put them on your External SD in Folders named ringtones and notifications. The rom should read it from there, or mine does. I am using Xborders GB 1.0.
Cant delete an audio file !!

AOSP Apps for Atrix 2

Does anybody know where I can get AOSP apps for the Atrix 2? Speciffically I'm looking for
1. Browser
2. Text Messenger
3. Settings
I'm have the music app from the market and love it. I got spoiled using RebelRom with the first two apps. Love the black menus and features.
Maybe I can pull them out of RebelRom so Id have them for any ROM I use? If that's possible will anybody point me in that direction? I'm fairly competant when it comes to code and computers. Android is just new to me (less than six months).
Thanks!

You should just be able to take the RebelRom .zip, extract it, and dig around in /system/app for the right .apk's! Then stick 'em where you want 'em!

Moving Files into /system/app
Okay so far so good. I have the system/app files extracted on my computer. Can I copy to SD card and move (overwrite) the .apk files using Root Browser (from Rom Toolbox)? What do I need to be aware of on the subject of permissions? I can fix permissions after moving the files with ROM Manager if that's needed.
Thanks.
Okay. So I figured out I can change permissions right from Root Browser. Sweet!
I did notice the permissions are different for the .apk files I just put on my SD card. Different than the phone's /system/app files. I assume I just change permissions for the new files to match those of the ones being replaced?

Captains Log...haha
So. I replaced the Browser.apk. I noticed when I changed the permissions while the file was on the SD card they just changed right back automatically. So I replaced the original file with the one I wanted THEN changed permissions and they stuck. To prepare, I deleted the Browser cache and data first. Not sure all that was necessary. Was it? Anyhow, it worked great.
As for the mms.apk- the original file is called "conversations.apk" instead of mms.apk- can I rename that one and have it work right? Anybody try that yet?

Does anybody know how I can get black menu settings? The "wallpaper" "settings" "manage apps" menu. Is that the systemUI.apk or is it the System.apk? I also have MotorolaSettingsProvider.apk. what's that? I don't wanna blindly try these things and end up with a brick.
Sent via Tapatalk with VictoryRom_v1.1
Just in case anybody's following this thread... I copied the mms.apk over to /system/app changed permissions, rebooted then cleared data from Text Messaging (conversations.apk) and froze it with Titanium Backup. Works like a treat! I now have the ability to choose a black background for the stock text app. It also comes with a black settings screen which I love.

[How To] Boot Animations

Figured while we are waiting for some custom roms, we could still get a little custom action going on. I got tired of sprints boot animation and started playing w root explorer. Need root access, and a file manager that has permission to write to system folders.
You may want to back up the original sprint_bootanimation.zip to another location before copying any other files, just in case you want to return to stock. I ended up losing mine in a wipe, once I got it back I figured it would be a good idea to have one posted for anyone who needed it, see below.
Below is a link to the Razr stock bootanimation.zip (most 960x540 animations will work, as well as several other resolutions, play around and see what you find and like), rename it sprint_bootanimation.zip and copy it to /system/media. After it is moved change the permissions to rw-r--r-- , should be able to do this by long pressing the file. The other is an OGG file (do not rename), also copy this to /system/media folder. Voila, you now have the stock Razr boot animation whenever you boot your phone, sound and all.
If anyone would like to post some more stock or custom animations below, feel free.

That's odd, I assume you granted root explorer su permission. Maybe go into system settings, apps and clear data in root explorer? If that doesn't get it try es file manager, open menu, settings; close to the bottom of the list is root settings, check all the boxes. It will ask for su permission & you should be able to do it then.

Just a thought. Did you hit the Rw/Ro toggle in the upper right hand corner when you were in /system? People sometimes for get about that.
@OP, Here is a Pro-Tip that I have been using for a long time on a few different phones if you like to swap bootanimations a bunch.
If you drop your "custom" BA in /data/local and set permissions, it will boot up when the phone does. By doing it this way, you can test out as many BAs as you want and all the while your original in /system/media is left clean and unadulterated. I have collected a bunch over the years and have them on my sdcard. Another trick to put them in folders to easily copy over into /data/local at will. So it would be sdcard/MYBootAniations/Clockhell/bootanimation.zip or sdcard/MYBootAniations/RollerCoaster/bootanimation.zip.
Sometimes, I will drop one in my wife's /data/local and then the next time she boots up BAM!!! She is pretty saavy at these things, so it is shortly after bootup when I get a text or call.
Nice, thanks for that, I will give it a try.

You should check out a script that kevinrocksman posted from TeamDart...it's an install script that uses cmd.exe on a PC to flash the sprint_bootanimation.zip file and either an .ogg file or MP3 of your choosing through your custom recovery. It's a one-click deal. Very handy!

[Q] Change Boot Music?

Hi all, I am wondering how I can change the boot music for the GS3. Which file do I need to change, and what do I need to name it?
I apologize if there is already a thread. If so, please link me. Search isn't working for some reason for me.
/system/media/audio/ui/poweron.ogg
Either change it to a ".bak" extension to stop it from happening. Or delete it.
Or make your own sound file with that name and replace it.
Sent from a GlaDos baked potato
Edit: poweroff.ogg above it is also your shutting down sound. I renamed the cameraclick.ogg to silence the camera when making single shots.
Hmm. I tried it, but it didn't work. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Anyone else have a suggestion? I have converted my file to .ogg, and saved it in system/media, system/media/audio system/media/audio/ui. None of these approaches have worked. I have tried re-naming mp3's and converting them. Has anyone had any success with this?

I've been trying to figure this out all day. I've tried many methods and none seem to work.
Just worked fine for me. I took a sound from a zelda soundboard I had already saved as a notification tone with the app (chest appears.ogg). Copied it to /system/media/audio/ui/ and then renamed it PowerOn.ogg. Rebooted and sure enough the zelda sound plays.
How long is the music you are trying? And when you rename it are you capitalizing the P in power and O in on? That is probably important to do.
Sent from a GlaDos Baked Potato
Edit2: just used Ringdroid to cut an mp3 of Gangnam Style to a notification. Used first few seconds of the song. Then used a media converting app to make it an ".ogg" format. Copied to that /system/media/ahdio/ui directory. Renamed it PowerOn.ogg. And rebooted. My phone bumps Gangnam now fine when I reboot.
It's 14 seconds long. I put it through ffmpeg media encoder to get to to ogg (I also tried an online encoder with my pc), then copied it here. The screenshot is attached.

Noob question, but do this require ROOT or just a specific app to access the files to change.

Yep. To be able to access the root directory and make changes to the system folder you need root permission. Then a file explorer app like Root Explorer or ES File explorer to move the file there and rename it
