Hey I was wondering if anyone else was having wifi connection issues with the xoom? Every time I use my xoom I have to keep retrying to load the market, webpages and everything else that uses data. Usually have to reload the market around 3-5 times to get it to work. I have tried 2 different routers and stilll the same thing. Please let me know if anyone else is having this issue and if there is a way to fix it. Thanks
P.s. When Im on 3G everything is fine
I get it but only with Market, I assumed it was a market issue.
On. 3G, for me, everything is dog slow, but I never get the Retry box.

Mine works perfect with my AT&T U-Verse gateway and tethered to my AT&T captivate. No problems here at all with wifi. Do you have problems with other wifi routers? Go to Starbucks or a friends and see if the same issue occurs. If not, there is something with your router that Xoom does not like.
I'm having WiFi issues as well. I don't have any issues with any other laptops in my house ... but my Xoom ... get very poor signal on WiFi and sometimes doesn't get any connection at all. This is serious buzz kill.
Mine is also choking on wifi. Switch to 3g and no problems. Annoying.

Hardly surpisring when the antenna is surrounded by glass and plastic
Wifi is suspect on the Xoom. I cannot get a connection to my secure wireless at work but I can connect to the less secure guest wireless network. I also could not initially tether with my phone (TMobile Vibrant) but after I downloaded Mobile AP I was able to tether just fine and have not had any issues since then.
No complaints here to report. I'm pulling in on average a speed of 17mbps download on most days from my home wifi network. Quite the speedy little guy my Xoom is.
WiFi hasnt been a problem for me either.
So far, I've used it on 4 different wireless networks (G and N/G), using various security options and I connect to each without fail. Hell, Ive even seen the Xoom connect to WiFi when driving down the street towards places that I have it configured to see.
I did have some trouble at one point due to my DNS and DHCP servers being offline. I didnt suspect any issues with them, so I spent more time than I should have troubleshooting the Xoom.

I have been having issues as well after the update. The wireless always disconnects and connects and doesn't stay connected. No problems with my Droid X or laptop or other device.
Problem is that now I'm getting very close to going over my data plan.
Is there a fix in the works, since it worked perfectly with 3.0

UPDATE: Uninstalled the leaked Flash 10.2 and that has fixed the problem, somewhat. Still disconnects, but less.

No it doesnt happen to me.
Glad I found this. Yes mine doea it too. If I linger on a webpage for more than 30 seconds or so, it disconnects. (Yes I have all settings set correctly) same issue with market and now facebook and twitter app after the update. No connection or synchronization failed.

Even after uninstalling flash, the problem persisted somewhat. I was getting very frustrated and so I reset the xoom to factory settings. A few notes on that. All applications were reinstalled, through the market which is good and bad.
So far, after 2 days of heavy wireless use, not a single drop in wifi connectivity.

So far my wireless is great. I use WP2 Secure at home, a WEP at my parents, and a MAC based approval network at work. All are steady with full bars and no issues.

Its the encrypton protocol, WPA2 with AES will cause problems.
TKIP works.
I also have random issues. Some days its just fine, but other days wifi works and then stops working, usually a reboot fixes it.

I have a fully factory stock xoom and have had NO wy fy problems at all! internet conection firm and stable. I intend not to root my zoom untill all the important updates are done and stable. I also am waiting for my 4G card install. I have WPA2 with AES and the xoom conected to it with NO problem
I haven't had any problems with mine whatsoever. I think it could be your router. My Xoom stays connected with my router and I haven't had a single problem so far with connected wifi.
My PS3 needs a router reset every single time I want to play Black Ops though.
ihad this issue. I think it may be hioneycomb and not xoom related because I experienced it on the acer iconia. The good news is that I resolved my connection issue with wifi. On the surface it looks like a dhcp handshake issue so, if you assign your xoom a static ip from your router, the issue goes away and all is good.

My WiFi doesn't connect after coming out of sleep sometimes. When I go to settings to check on the WiFi status, it is turned off. I've also noticed that although I have changed the option 'Keep WiFi on during sleep' to only when plugged in, it reverts back to always...even though it reverts back to always, it still does not turn on WiFi when coming out of asleep. My Acer a700 does not do this.
This has happened since latest update (26). I don't remember it happening prior to update.

I have been testing this more and more and it is happening when ever I am downloading a lot of data. I have tried multiple network settings and different networks and the same thing keeps happening. My WiFi will disconnect and then reconnect. Latest test was trying to download music from my google account to the Infinity. It starts downloading and then in a few minutes I get no internet connection. then it is like wifi turns back on and reconnects. Is anyone else having this issue. Can some others test this. I have reset the tablet to factory defaults 2X and I still have the issue.

I have had a TF101, a TF201 and now a TF700. Docked or undocked I've never had disconnects in WiFi. This is in spite of the fact that there are maybe 20 other WiFi networks visible. I guess I have a good WiFi router and do use a WiFi extender downstairs.

Had this problem with my TF201
Set my router up to only use one channel and it helped. Used WiFi analyzer from the market to determine which channel was best.

Keep in mind that it could disconnect and reconnect without you even realizing it. I just happened to notice the wifi symbol going away and coming back on it's own a few times (one time, while waiting for a web page to reload). So, it *could* be occurring and you not even realize it...
Not a huge problem, but a problem nonetheless...

The only time i saw it constantly connect/disconnect is when I did a hotspot off my phone and didn't enter the password in correctly. It didnt tell me it was wrong, just kept trying to connect over and over untill I stopped it and did a "forget" then reconnected entering the correct PW this time.

I did not notice it before the update either. I did not notice any issues when downloading all my apps the day after I received the inifinity, but since the update I have had the issue trying to watch TV on the Infinity and now when trying to download my Music from google. I also notice it running speedtest app.

This issue is not "constant" - like I said, most people wouldn't even notice it, unelss they were actively transferring something when it happened... It's *very* intermittent.

How about this . . . . I have never had an issue, slow-down, ANR, crash or other user experience malfunction that I would relate to WiFi connection or disconnection.

Basically since ICS google has screwed many customers. Like i have a Zyxel P-2812HNU-F3 and when i use the default 802.11g/b/n in router settings, then my galaxy nexus and infinity wifi will behave like yours. When downloading something or sometimes in browser, wifi disconnects and reconnects. Whats your router name? And also if you havent already, try going into router settings, change "Mode Select" to 802.11g Only. See if that helps. Still google screwed up when wifi works perfectly on my SGS2 on 2.3(using a custom rom on 4.0.4 which works great with wifi :S ) but not on nexus and infinity on 4.0+

Lately my phone's WIFi started to have issues. It will work for few minutes and then will stop receiving any data. The only way to temporarily fix it is to toggle WIFI off and on. But then again it will only work for few minutes, anyone has an idea what's wrong?

No, I had this phone for about one month, but the WIFI started acting up about one week ago.
Just did a fxz back to 2.3.6 and updated to ICS. Seems to be working without issues so far.
May not matter now (I'm downloading ics as we speak) but I "solved " this problem by also keeping my Bluetooth turned on all the time. Once I did that, the wifi disconnects (which started about 9 months after I got the phone) stopped. But I'm hoping the update has a fix.

Nope, enabled BT and WIFI, rebooted, WIFI stopped working within 2 minutes. It stays connected but doesn't receive any data until I reconnect.
Maybe delete and recreate your WiFi profiles too?
My wifi has been solid since upgrading, with Bluetooth turned off.

Been running CM10, and WIFI works great here.
I downgraded to ICS and the problem started again. Figured out what it was when my bro started complaining that his RAZR started having WiFi problems.
The problem was that the router gave out same IP address to both phones. :facepalm:
EDIT: Both phones have identical MAC address.
Since the OTA update before last my WiFi has been weird, whenever I turn it on and connect to a network, after a random period anywhere between 1 sec and over an hour it will disconnect and completely refuse to reconnect, saying failed to connect. The only way to reconnect is to cycle the WiFi power completely. I was hoping that the last update would correct the problem, but no luck. My system is currently fully stock, no unlocking or subversion so far.
Any ideas or fixes?
Attached is the relevant system information.
UPDATE : I'd like to refine the problem a little; when the problem manifests, the tablet completely fails to recognize that there are any networks in range at all. Once again, it's solved by only a quick cycle though.

I've had this same problem a few times too. Cold-booting three times in a row then running an FMR memory clean usually works to fix it for me. But I'm on 4.1.1
Also make sure your wifi isn't getting turned off thru Asus power saver settings or another battery saver app. Flaky wifi routers or congested local wifi traffic with overlapping bands (channels) are notorious for randomly disconnecting wifi, but if its only after the last update then that probably has nothing to do with it unless your neighbor just installed a wireless router on or near your channel. Wifi Analyzer is a great app for weeding that sort of thing out.

I have the same problem with both my home router (Typically less than 10 feet away) and with my mobile hot spot. It started having this problem on each different network in the same time period, so I've ruled out the router. I've also now noticed that it does get worse with time until I can't even connect until I reboot.

I've done a quick scan of my nearby networks just in case, and since I am typically within the ten feet of my fairly powerful router, it's got a good 40+ dB on anything nearby. I also have the problem on my cellular hotspot in different places, so I'm ruling out the router.
I'm running only the stock power saver setting, I'll try shutting that off next time it starts again, to see if there's any effect, but the WiFi doesn't shut off, it just stops functioning correctly.
I've also come to find that the problem gets worse with uptime, 20 minutes ago I was getting 20 sec connections, until a reboot, now I expect to have hour+ functional periods.
I know what a cold boot is, but not completely familiar on this kind of device.
Do I need to shut down and leave it off for a few minutes to perform a cold boot?
Also, what is an FMR memory clean, and can I do that without root?

Cold boot: shut it off. Hold Volume Down and Power until the tab vibrates twice. If you're on 4.2 you should see 3 icons with RCK flashing. Use Volume Down to highlight "Android", press Volume Up to confirm.
Tiny script upper left will read: Cold booting Linux
As far as I know you can only clear cache for individual apps, not system caches on stock without root...
This is starting to sound like a hardware problem to me.
If you're still under warranty I would contact Asus and see what they have to say.
A factory reset would be my last resort before sending it in.

What is it called when you boot into bootloader, then just let the RCK blink for 10s, hit no buttons, then it automatically boots saying "cold booting linux"? How is this different than the Android, or is it the same? I'm on 4.1.1

I don't think that works on 4.2 anymore since it defaults to fastboot mode (for which you had to select "USB" on 4.1) when booting into the bootloader.

I think on 4.1 you had two options to cold boot: Boot into the bootloader and do nothing as you mentioned earlier, or select the Android and confirm with Vol Up. Both accomplished the same thing: cold booting Linux.
On 4.2 you have to select the Android.

Thanks for the info. That's what I thought, but just confirming. Thinking isn't good enough, you gotta know. Wouldn't want to go around telling people how to cold boot or that cold boot fixes something when that's not what I'm actually doing, but it seemed pretty obvious I was cold booting - the micro script tells you so and also that if you wait 10s it will just happen automatically, and I like automatic. What's that font size anyway, 1/4 point? You just about need a magnifying glass to read it.

I guess that is the "official" way. But since I'm officially lazy, I do it the easiest way! This is a rare example of being able to do the same thing two different ways on Android. Often there is only one way to do it, to the letter. Talk about lazy, I use rebooter app too. 1-click cold boot. Savin' the buttons for when I really need 'em.
[Edit] Hey, OP we didn't forget about you. FMR Memory Cleaner can be run without root. Its not your average task killer. Digs out some memory somehow. It must clean cache and delete logs. I use it once a week religiously.

Believe it or not, my power button already stuck once in the down position. Talk about a boot loop. All that buzzing scared the daylights out of my dogs and they were just about ready to attack my tablet laying on my bed. I thought there was a raccoon or something in the house - they were going ballistic. I had just turned it off and set it down, and went out to the garage to work on a project and the next thing I know all he*& broke loose. I fixed it with a drop of electric razor oil on a Q-tip and my device is less than 6 mos old. I'm not joking about saving those buttons!

The common understanding of "cold booting" is "turning on the power and letting the bootloader load the kernel". So you are already cold booting if you turn it off and on again.
Nobody came up with any evidence yet that the explicit selection of Android in the bootloader menu does anything more than simply not entering the bootloader menu and letting it boot normally.
I noticed some interesting behavior when this happens on my device. Say its tethered to my phone's 3G, and there are up to 5 bars (pie slice shaped concentric rings) in the docked notifications panel on the lower right screen. Often my phone has 3-4 bars, but there are none showing on the device when this happens. This isn't ability to connect to wifi, it is connected, its ability to connect to the internet thru the wifi. I see this more often lately for some reason. I have to toggle my wifi or reset my hotspot so the bars come back on the device, and to re-connect to the internet. Happens often when I am posting here and there has been significant idle time between data exchange. Sometimes I can just highlight the address bar link and then hit enter and it reconnects. Seems like some kind of idle timeout. Maybe it has something to do with Verizon's hotspot connection and dwell time, and they are cutting off my allocated bandwidth connection so an "active" user can use it. Fine, but it doesn't reconnect me when I later transmit my data and that's not fine.
I noticed some interesting behavior when this happens on my device. Say its tethered to my phone's 3G, and there are up to 5 bars (pie slice shaped concentric rings) in the docked notifications panel on the lower right screen. Often my phone has 3-4 bars, but there are none showing on the device when this happens. This isn't ability to connect to wifi, it is connected, its ability to connect to the internet thru the wifi. I see this more often lately for some reason. I have to toggle my wifi or reset my hotspot so the bars come back on the device, and to re-connect to the internet. Happens often when I am posting here and there has been significant idle time between data exchange. Sometimes I can just highlight the address bar link and then hit enter and it reconnects. Seems like some kind of idle timeout. Maybe it has something to do with Verizon's hotspot connection and dwell time, and they are cutting off my allocated bandwidth connection so an "active" user can use it. That would make sense, if it was only my hotspot where I was having the problem, but it's the same on my WiFi at home. I also believe that the bars on the Transformer WiFi dock notification indicate WiFi signal strength.

As far as I know you can only clear cache for individual apps, not system caches on stock without root...
This is starting to sound like a hardware problem to me.
If you're still under warranty I would contact Asus and see what they have to say.
A factory reset would be my last resort before sending it in.

I've been afraid that this would be a hardware problem, I've kept this baby well, and thought of trading it in for a refurb is not a pleasant one...

Ah, now that I am looking at that again I think you are right. I thought they represented the 3G signal strength of the phones connection. What's interesting is that when it happens, the display is erroneous, because in wifi analyser app it still shows me I have 50dB yet the bar graph shows zero bars. Connected wifi with no signal strength. Yup, that's my problem alright.
Is anyone else noticing that their WiFi doesn't exactly drop, but just stops working apparently at random?
I notice this when sending a message via Hangouts, it won't send for a minute or two. Just three bouncing dots. My WiFi still shows connected, but the message doesn't send.
Same with Hangouts video chat. It will freeze up on me, and have a poor connection/experience, but when I switch to T-Mobile's network, no issues.
I haven't had this WiFi issue on any other devices in my home. (Droid Incredible, Galaxy Nexus, HP Touchpad w/Jelly Bean).

Tried turning off wifi optimization? That used to be a problem on my Gnex and I have it disabled on my N5. Not sure if it would help though.

whats wifi optimization?
i experienced this issue on 2 occasions. wifi bars still show full but no data is getting across. i turned wifi off and back on and its fine again.

I am experiencing the exact same issue. I just turned off WiFi optimization as suggested and we will see what happens.
Just received mine, I'll check it on my home Wi-Fi. My work Wi-Fi is suspect because the building is old and we've had a tough time getting things to work around here. Lol.

Artem Russakovskii posted on g+ that the nexus 5 has issues with networks that use a 5 ghz signal. Apparently using another channel solves the problem. Similar to the issues chromecast/nexus 7 has on 5 ghz networks. Changing it is worth a shot, most routers have an option to change it.
edit: (assuming you are using a 5 ghz channel)

Just happened to me again with YouTube. Video stopped playing half way through. The only way to get the video to finish was to turn off wifi and switch to LTE. I had wifi optimization off, and I do not have a 5GHz router.

Even though my router is not 5 GHz I just went into my phones settings, WiFi, Advanced and changed the WiFi Frequency band from Auto to 2.4 Ghz. Maybe that will help? It seemed to work right away without me having to turn wifi off and on again so there is that. I need to use it awhile though.
Do you have any antivirus programs running? I had to uninstall mine because it was causing wifi issues.

I've been having some pretty terrible Wi-Fi reception. Especially on my school's campus. There will be a router on the ceiling directly above me, and I'll get like one or two bars maybe, and terrible speeds.
Just tried turning off Wi-Fi optimization, maybe it'll work better.
UPDATE: This seems to have fixed it. I just downloaded an app at 6 MB/s from the play store in the same spot I've always had problems.

Basically, if I watch a YouTube video that's at least 5 minutes long, I won't be able to finish it as the video will pause at least one or two minutes after starting. This is not YouTube buffering the video either, the video will just pause forever.
Another test is open up Chrome and type words into the URL bar. Auto suggests will appear, if I keep doing this, sooner or later there will be no auto suggest appearing, suggesting network connection is either dropped or became very slow.
I am connecting to an Asus RT-N16 router in 2.4Ghz N mode. Tried turning off Wifi optimization, and other router settings (20Mhz spread, G only mode, other frequencies, etc) and same problem persists.
Since this problem is not as common, I am suspecting this maybe a router incompatibility between N5 and Asus Rt-N16. Anyone reading this thread, if you are having this (or not) issue, please post your router model + settings. Thanks.
I have (2) N5's, a white one and a black one. The black one is very "flaky" with regards to wifi and battery drain. I initially noticed the problem with battery drain where it would drop 20% in two hours with <1m of screen time. It would also go from 100% to 4% over the course of a day with <50m of screen time. I initially did not use the phone much as I was trying to figure out the drain problem, but now that I have been using it more, I've experienced wifi drop outs, where the signal indicator shows connected with a strong signal. I have never experienced that amount of battery drain or any wifi problems with the white one. Both connect to the same routers. I have an Asus 802.11AC router at home. The only AC devices I have are the N5's and my laptop, but the laptop and white N5 has never had trouble. At work I have several TP-Link 802.11N routers in the ceiling throughout our building and a Netgear 802.11N router in our IT sandbox lab. I've tried changing channels, 2.4 vs 5Ghz, updating router firmware and performing factory resets on my home router and the Netgear at work, all to no avail. I've done factory wipes on both phones many times trying to find some reason for one to behave in such a way where the other does not. All I can come up with is that the black one is defective. What's worse, some days the black one will work just fine on wifi and I'll see expected battery drain.
Another update: I went to Paradise Bakery (sandwich shop with free wifi) to test out the wifi. The N5 connected to the wifi fine, but unable to get pass the 'Agree to EULA' login page. I brought along my work HTC One and it was able to connect and get pass the agreement page with no problems. I am beginning to think there's something wrong with the wifi on my N5.
