Correct, it's just the app you can get from the Market. It's been around for a while. The portal did an article on it a few months ago. Been meaning to give it a shot, just haven't gotten around to it.

Yeah, not what I was looking for, this thing is wicked for those who don't have PC. Not necessary a vaporware but not ready for prime time. Thank you anyway.

Only reason I say vaporware is because it was announced in February and nothing has come of it since.
We are working to get my project to work like ubuntu's but with the dual core requirement etc. But we are working on native graphics etc etc but who knows they may release something soon

Dual boot manager

So I saw this app on Lifehacker:

Has anyone tried this on our phones? I'm very interested in using it but I'm not going to buy it if it's known to not work.

Gflam 1 of the co developers of this is my rom partner. We did a rom called sourcery together. i finally put recovery on today and was suppose ot work on getting him the info to make it compatible. But he was busy. Ill post as soon as its supported. and i do some testing for him.
That be cool.

Wow, that would be awesome! Not yet officially supported on our phone according to link. Seems like it would be pretty buggy running on SD.
Somewhat on topic, this is one of the reasons I got an LG phone. I work with VMware products in my job and they've partnered with LG to work on giving users the ability to run a business and personal accounts simultaneously through virtualization. Not 100% sure if it is actually a whole other ROM but it looks like it from the demo. If it's true virtualization for phones, I could see you being able to run multiple ROMs.
Check it out. Might be another option when it comes out:
http://communities.vmware.com/commu.../lg-vmw-partnership-follow-up-with-demo-video
The dev on this sent me an email and said they are working on this device and one of his guys is testing it out now. It should be available soon. The dev was also very helpful and very quick to respond to my email.

Short answer, it doesn't work.. lol... It can't flash the boot.img. I'll send some info to the dev, hopefully he will be able to update the code and get us going.
Cool thanks

i have tried the v.1.2 of this app and had no luck just error when it was trying to create a boot.img of the rom i was wanting to install. i'll guess i'll go back to doing a nandroid backup of the other rom and just reflash the backup when i want to use it. at least that way works. i was really looking forward to giving this app a go as well, just a shame really..........sudeki300
Want this bad!

For me, it worked when i was restoring from a nandroid (only worked once).
I'm not sure whether it was setup issue or whether it was software.
Will report back after further testing =D

"However since this is a large push, please be aware that it
will take some time to complete. If you sync before it's done, you'll
get an incomplete copy that you won't be able to use, so please wait
for us to give the all-clear before you sync.
This is actually the source code for version 4.0.1 of Android, which
is the specific version that will ship on the Galaxy Nexus, the first

By thanksgiving is too soon, but by christmas probably.
Hopefully before the year 2012.

MIUI is interesting, but does it really afford any advantages with a tablet? Do you use your 7.7 as a regular phone as well?

Both of those roms are for 6800 only. I'm using locerras cm9 which is great.
I've been using miui since sgs1 days and still using on my sgs3. Its pretty and more refined looking compared to cm9. No disrespect intended.

MIUI would be nice. +1
https://github.com/MiCode
You are all free to do it.
Now seriously, if no developer is interested on working with it, no developer will work with it, and it won't be ported to the 7.7. Since MIUI has been closed source (despite being basically a fork of CM for a long time), people tend to dislike it. A lot. If you believe it's worth to port it, be aware that you either need to do it yourself OR try to convince some specific developer to do it.
I wouldn't hold my breath, though. Even the much bigger CM10.x has only a couple of developers on our tabs (three, if you count aorth who uses the very similar Tab 7 Plus and builds for the 7.7 occasionally).

Never fear CM10 is near

Arcee just answered a tweet & said CM10 is near, and should be ready in a couple of days
Edit: he was referring to the P990 though I'm not sure about the P999
Even if the p990 gets it first, we still should get it a few days later. We only have a few differences that RC should be able fix

According to ProTekk, I think he's part of the AOKP team, you should be good, here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485861 he says minimum dual-core with 4Gbs of RAM.
I have a spare computer with intel core2 duo and 4Gbs of RAM and it compiles from source with no problem. I have noticed that it's slower without my SSD though. You'll probably need at least 120Gbs of hard drive disk space as I was having a lot of trouble with 64Gbs (in Ubuntu that is)
Hope this helps

Didn't we have a *nix loader available for us a year or two ago? Though I remembered seeing posts on that, but the links were dead by the time I decided to kill my phone.
Keep an eye on this.
THIS
Ubuntu stated that the OS works better on multi-core devices. We can still try to see if it works...
http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/android
Seeing what it did to some of the nexus 4 peoples phone I think it's a crap shot and very risky. There is a git that just got his nexus two days ago and already bricked out from flashing a alpha build of Ubuntu mobile.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah I messed around with it yesterday on my galaxy nexus. It's still in the very beginning of alpha stages in my opinion.
But there were allot of people having trouble going back to android afterwards on the galaxy nexus forums but no bricks. It's a cool idea but I think it needs some time to mature like android did.

Since Ubuntu is using CM as source I'd say it's possible. They seem to be optimizing it towards duel core(possibly quad by the time it's fully released) devices though. So why it should be portable to this phone the experience may be less the stellar. Think of running a new PC game on a three year old PC and you get the idea.

I hear it builds just like CM. A guy is building it for the Rocket as we speak. Or trying to. It's still so early in the development phase that even getting it to boot will be a challenge in and of itself. But you know the deal. You build it I'll log it. I'll have to look into what package would be needed to log it. lol

The biggest hurdle from what I seen posted is the transition of VM between android and Ubuntu. For the most part I think the issues with building and actually getting it to boot is the different Vm the two OS's use.
I wanna post the link just to say that I didn't see it on this thread twice already but here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
. It looks intricate but it's not really different from porting a new rom . I can't wait to tinker with this...

Although it looks pretty cool, the only thing I use Ubuntu for is for Eclipse and I wouldn't program Java in a phone. If it's on a Nexus 7 (other tablets too) then OK, but why would anyone want Ubuntu on their phones? Serious, not hating.
Being able to run both Ubuntu apps and Android would be fun.
