I am going to get a galaxy nexus or a s2 soon. They both sell here around 400$ for the unlocked versions. I would be gaming on them and watching videos on them. Although gaming is not a definite must i would like to play games like dead space, gta 3 and so on. Which would be the better phone for the price.
All help is appreciated.
I think you should choose the SII, vote SII
Galaxy Nexus... Better Res Screen, Better GPU and CPU. Yeah camera is lower but also it is supported to next android version... good ROMS and I used to have one...
I own a galaxy nexus and I am very happy with it. The screen is simply gorgeous for watching movies and videos. It's also pretty good for playing games, but I can't vouch for heavy 3D games. I've tried the S2 many times and to be honest, other than having a better graphics processor, i can't say I like anything in it. The nexus is much cooler.

If you like the stock Android UI, stick to Galaxy Nexus.
Samsung's Galaxy S2 is more "Touchwiz" UI which ads lil bits and pieces here-n-there all over the place.
So do you guys think the galaxy nexus, is worth the 400$, i am moving on from my old htc hero. 400$ is kinda my budget. Also found out that the s2 being sold here are the g version which doesnt use the exynos, unless i search for some used ones.
Hey I'd go for galaxy nexus, better screen, cpu and yeah a lot of people like the S II but I've experienced lag with it, but my mate that have galaxy nexus has had no problems and it's still fast and smooth
I have already chosen the Galaxy Nexus and I can tell you that you wont regret it. It is the best phone I've ever had

Actually, the Galaxy S II has the better GPU (Mali-400MP vs PowerVR SGX540) & CPU (1.2 GHz Exynos vs 1.2 GHz TI OMAP 4460) compared to the Galaxy Nexus.
The Galaxy Nexus also has no SD card slot. So you're stuck with 16 GB of internal storage. With a Galaxy S II, you have 16 GB of internal storage and an expandable Micro SD slot.
I will hand it to you that the screen on the Galaxy Nexus is arguably better. I've seen it in person, and honestly, the pentile display is non issue imo.
ICS is available on the Galaxy S II. And, there's always developers out there making sure the latest updates are available.
That all said. If you want the over all better device: Get a Galaxy S II. But, if you like the (HD) bigger screen, and want to be able to say, "I have Google's flagship phone"... get the Galaxy Nexus.
Just my opinion. ^_^
I have the same problem.... but i think i'locali buy a nexus te only real big problem for me is the storage....

Exynos better than Tegra but less apps or games built for Exynos. Maybe the Chainfire 3d can fix some of it but won't know until we try. More than likely though it runs smoother since SAMSUNG is best at efficiency for android.

Yea I know Tegra can barely handle flash. Well I guess ill return the flyer and try the 7.0. I don't play too many games anyway. I just want something portable and with a decent life span. Samsung has already said it will be upgraded to 4.0 and HTC NOTHING.

I would recommend the samsung because they make quality products and are one of the better android brands
the new Samsung tab 7 is better then the a100, but its also a lot pricier. if you can afford it, go Samsung. if not, i think you'll be plenty happy with the Acer.
i don't know if i would pick the 7 plus when 7.7 is literally right around the corner with a faster exynos and HD SAMOLED+ screen
I would think about the 7.7 over the 7 Plus as the 7.7 has the more standardized 1280x800 resolution though I'm not sure its going to matter for much longer.
I got around $500 bucks to spend.... and in my price range I have 2 options.
Galaxy S2 or the Galaxy Nexus.
I'm not sure which, all i know is my wife who has the Galaxy S2 has a lot of trouble with games, and the Nexus has a powerVR in, slower but more compatible.
S2 or Galaxy Nexus? (i'm not fussed about the 5mp camera on the nexus)
Which is more hackable of the 2 i guess lol or maybe i should wait for the Quad Core Beast from Samsung to drive the prices down a bit more...
If you are willing to get a used phone you have alot more options than just those two phones you mentioned. Look in the marketplace

Depends which S2 your wife has. If she has the T-Mobile one or the AT&T Skyrocket, there's your problem. Those have Snapdragons in them, which suck for gaming. They're not real Galaxy S II's. They're only branded that way to make people buy them. Only the Sprint Epic 4G Touch and the AT&T i777 (Galaxy S II) have the original Exynos chip with the Mali GPU (the one in the real GSII i9100).
If you want a high res display with no microSD slot (16/32GB for GSM/CDMA models respectively) and pure mod-ability, get the Galaxy Nexus. It's pretty good for gaming, but it probably won't handle the next generation of games as well as the GS2. The Galaxy S II has a better GPU and processor, but a lower res screen (which actually means better performance), and 16GB + MicroSD card slot, and a camera that rivals the iPhone 4S's.
They both have great development communities, and all GSII variants are getting ICS officially. (the i9100 already has it). If you want a phone that will 100% get Jelly Bean officially, go for the GNexus.
Gaming/Media-oriented -> Galaxy S II
Pure mod-ability -> Galaxy Nexus
A Galaxy Nexus from Expansys I think is $399, no tax. I know the Google Play store is selling it for the same price, but with tax here in NY that's $450. You should be able to pick up either phone for around $400.

You can consider also HTC Sentation XL
try out galaxy nexus.
Although the Galaxy Nexus would be the usual choice, I honestly suggest that you check both phones' Specs carefully.
While Nexus's display is quite nice and it is "more famous" than the S2, in terms of processor or camera, there's no reason not to choose the latter.
Also, you should consider the release of ICS and CM9 for the S2.
One things I'll chime in from my personal experience against the "pure modability" aka Nexus- the best experience I've had with my S2 was on the old, stock ATT rom with the clockwork mod recovery in the stock kernel. All the custom roms I've tried, above all, that the WORST battery life.
So while you'll be able to get more, useless modability out of a Nexus, S2 will work like a champ right out of the box without ANY issues.

Well since we have no idea what the official specs of the SGS3 are we can't really say. All we have is rumors, but some of the thing we can be fairly certain about are the exynos quad processor, a 720p screen, an 8-10MP camera, and a screen size ranging from 4.5-4.8". The main difference will be the processor and the screen size. If you want a hybrid phone/tablet the note will be best, if you are looking for pure performance then the S3 will give you the best results. You can't say one will blow the other one out of the water without solid spec sheets and an idea of what you want in the phone.
I am excited for Thursday. I hope that we don't only hear about the SGS3, but maybe some intel on when the TMobile version of the Note will be released.
I am going for the Note. Buying an international version is not an option for me financially, so it rules out these quad-core processors, which are probably not needed right now anyway.
I am still using a TMobile G2, and it does everything I need it to do. It only has 1 core I am sure at like 800 mhz, though I am overclocking it right now due to the fact that it makes it easier to run. Either way, that processor can't be as nice a the Galaxy Note's dual-core 1.5 ghz processor.
Quad cores are just being used in desktop computers really, so it's no surprise that you shouldn't really NEED it for a phone. I don't know the official technicalities to backup my statement, but it seems common sense.
I will look forward to having the GNote specific applications, S pen, and screen real estate. Can't wait!
S3. Only reason to get Note over GS2 is screen/pen. Not worth it imo.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Not a fair competition at all. S3 should be compared to phones of the same calibre, like the HTC One X.
im sure someone will do a competition of these two phones. Even whitout the S3 full specs we all know who will win.
Quadcore is more than necessary for me
One phone!

i think the SG S3 will be the same as the Note ( pen included ) but with a 4.6 screen
Each have their pluses and minuses. The GS3 will have the latest and greatest hardware and ICS out if the box, but the Note will have the bigger screen and S-Pen.
But seriously you're considering a phone already 6 months old vs a phone that will just be announced tomorrow. I love my Note and it has worked flawlessly for me, but I know after tomorrow it won't be the best hardware wise compared to the GS3. But that doesn't mean the Note is a slouch at all. The good thing though is I have my work phone with Sprint and my upgrade is June 30, so I may pick up the GS3, so best of both worlds!

IiI can relate to the question I have a gsii and I really lobe the note. I will wait to deer what the new galaxy offers this weekend. I live near the brand new Samsung shop in Westfield next to the Olympic site and they reckon that the should have demo models this Saturday following the event tonight.
I only wish there were a gnote2 being announced. I love the idea of stylus
and big screen.
I have high expectations for GS3. Let's see what they have to offer for us today.
Anyway, I like my GS2 better than Galaxy Note already, so it seams clear to me that GS3 will also be better.
hummm, i like Galaxy S III better.
How do you like HUA WEI Ascend P1
BTW, I'm still waiting for media pad 10 fhd of HUA WEI
There will be quite a big difference according to the specs!
Well we will see at 7pm today
The SGS3 will be more popular than the Note, because the SGS3 is the direct concurrention of the HTC One X, iPhone etcetera.
If a phone gets really popular, you get extra things from the producer, like firmware upgrades etcetera.
Pick SGS3 after 7pm.
PS it is being expected the SGS3 will arive at the stores in approx 7 days
hahaha note vs a quadcore baby doesnt stand a chance find out today at 7:00pm GMT London time
according to leaked specs the s3 will have a 12mp camera a 4412 quadcore processor clocked at 1.5ghz
a mali 400(same as in the s2 just clocked much higher)
a 4.8 inch 720p HD regular RGB matrix not pentile
wireless charging (big maybe wuold be cool but unlikely)
2mp front cam
touchwiz bullcrap on android 4.0.4
a ceramic back

WAIT PATIENTLY !!!!!!!!!!!!! WHO IS GONNA DO THAT I WANT MY SIII NOW
As this is my first post on this forum I would like to say kindly HELLO to EVERYONE.
I have a big problem in choosing my next smartphone. Currently I'm using Samsung Galaxy S+ (i9001). I tested almost every rom on it, and I'm not satisfied with it's speed...I mean it's laggy and apps open too much time.
So I want to buy either Nexus or S2 but I can't really choose. Like I said the most important thing for me is the smoothness and quick opening aps (calls, sms and so on). I don't play games so I won't benefit from better GPU in S2. I have read many comparisons and ones say that Nexus is smoother than S2 because it's pure AOSP, and other say that slower CPU+GPU in Nexus with HD screen makes it a slower device. Will be S2 really smoother than Nexus when I will put an AOSP rom in it ?
It would be great if someone had both devices and compared them. Comparisons on YT tell me nothing cause those people are comparing those devices on too much differing roms like one on ICS and other on JB.
I am aware of other pros and cons of those two devices. What I am asking for is that which one does have smoother feel and faster opening aps. Well eventually the battery life is what interests me too, cause I have read that Nexus has a weak one.
Sorry for my bad english.
S2 has amazing support of community and it can be very smooth. Actually its smoother then stock S3 with good ROM.
It is also thin and light as feather. I really enjoy in its lightness.
Nexus is one of the phones I would only root, and don't touch anything.
They are actually quite different. Sweet misery. Anyway you can't make a mistake with either one.

Galaxy Nexus is smoother, because it is pure AOSP, like people said. Development is good for both devices, but Nexus has better development mainly because its a Nexus device. You also get official updates faster and will probably get more updates than SII. I would pick Nexus over SII any day. The HD screen doesnt make that much of a difference. Besides, I'd rather have an HD screen with > 300 PPI than a screen with only 217 PPI. Both devices are really good, but that resolution on the SII really irks me.
PS. I agree with the person above. I would probably root it but leave it at that. Pure stock on Nexus really is amazing.

I have to go with Nexus too. I love pure stock. TouchWiz is ok... but when it comes down to it you have to deal with some Samsung crap that you don't want.
Your S+ is laggy because it runs on a Snapdragon CPU instead of Exynos. There's nothing "Plus" about it.
As someone who's owned both the S2 and Galaxy Nexus. I'm assuming by S2 you mean an Exynos-based one like the i9100:
Development (ROMs) - Both. Yes, the Galaxy Nexus is a Nexus device, which means a lot of development. But the S2 i9100 also has a TON of support and development.
Speed - Galaxy S2, for both CPU and GPU, by far.
Camera - Galaxy S2, by FAR. It has an amazing camera. The Galaxy Nexus has a terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE camera, and any GN owner will admit it.
Screen - Galaxy Nexus, if you don't mind pentile. It's 720p vs 800 x 480 in the S2. The S2 isn't pentile though. Honestly, I'd give it to the Galaxy Nexus regardless.
Storage - Galaxy S2; 16/32GB storage + Memory card slot. Galaxy Nexus (GSM) is 16GB, which is really like 12GB usable. No memory card slot.
Notification Light - Galaxy Nexus has an RGB notification light. Galaxy S2 doesn't have a light.
Personally, I'd go with the S2 because I game a lot and need room for my music and files. I only have like 250 songs on my card, but I also use my phone as a camera, so storage and camera quality are very important for me. It's much much much faster for anything beyond day-to-day tasks. The screen resolution isn't bad at all considering the screen is 4.3 inches. I had the Sprint Galaxy Nexus, which was 32GB, so it had a redeeming factor, but I felt like it was hard to downgrade performance coming from the Galaxy S2. The Galaxy Nexus is still a great phone that's still very viable (and still a Nexus, so you get continued support from Google), but between these two phones specifically, I'd go for the S2.
Yeah deff agree with the sucky camera. And the lack of a micro SD slot is ridiculous. But I rarely use either. Honestly it depends on the type of user you are.

Hey guys,
At the moment I'm using a Motorola Milestone 2 (mainly for its hardware keyboard) but the phone is sluggish and freezes quite often.
I tried nearly all available ROMs but none could give me the experience I wanted.
So I am currently searching a new phone (in Germany) under the following conditions:
max. screen size 4.3"
300€ budget (± a few bucks)
My biggest problem ist the screen size. I don't want a flagship with 4.7 inch and above. Thats just too much imho.
I use my phone mainly for calling, mailing, surfing and as an organizer.
I want a smooth user experience, even with lots of mails/messages.
Gaming would be nice but I don't nee GTA 3 running on my system.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 mini fits quite good but gets torn to pieces by the community.
Is it really such a bad decision for 260 - 280€?
I can't find a real alternative at the moment.
Thanks in advance for any help!
There is also the Razr I with a 4.3" screen but a small bezel so overall its still a small device. It just got the Jelly Bean 4.1 upgrade. It has better specs than the S3 Mini but I'm not sure what price they would be in Germany.
look into sony's xperia line ...
go for s2...gr8 dev support
@spunker88:
Has Mototola a better device support for the RAZR I (Prize in Germany is around 350€)?
Because normally I would'nt go back to Motorola because of their crappy updates/support.
@OMGWTFBBQRETARD:
I've seen the Xperia phones but I don't really know if the design is my thing.
But I will give it a look
@nmgavinash:
The Problem with the SGS2 is, that it still costs more than 300€ and there is no good availability here.
If I consider to pay more than 300€ I will go for the SGS2!
