I'm looking for an app that will add typing sounds of some kind while using the hardware keyboard on my G1. I'm coming from a modded, OpenTouch flashed and overclocked HTC Herald/T-Mobile Wing which had the option to add sounds for hardware button presses. I'm a big guy with BIG hands- my two thumbs placed together stretch from the "A" to the "L" on the G1 keyboard. The G1's keys are smaller and don't have the healthy, positive feeling "click" that my old Wing/Herald did, which makes it hard for my big ass thumbs to register if I've depressed the button. I end up backspacing a lot to correct double typed or missed letters. Having sounds would help sooooo much. Even the same sound you can set for screen touches would be perfect.
Does something like this exist? Could an app be made?
~edit~
Just realized I should have posted this in the apps forum....sorry! Move if needed!
hmm good post. I would like to know this as well, would be a great feature addition.
maybe someone can create a sound not when it opens but when ever the screen is rotated?just a thought

no offense, but that wouldn't really help the OP
and it would be a nice feature. god knows how you'd do it though
This would be an absolute must have app for me....I'd pay for it without a second thought.
ttt....
My hope is that some super secret squirrel developer will see this and whip out the appropriate app and beam to my phone in 3.2 seconds. lol
i was wondering about this also!

its quite possible to do it. i dont know how though
in the coding, there is a keyboardhidden and keyboardexposed recognization...
we just need to find a dev interested in it
i would like this also!
i love using the on screen keyboard because of all the sounds and the different ones for space and delete and if i could have it on my hard keyboard also i would most definitely pay
You guys know about Haykuros keyboard mod? The one that gives the hard keyboard predictive text? It also gives you key pressing sounds like the VK does.
can you link us to this?
if you use haykuro's HTC IME you can tell it to make typing noises when you click the hardware or software keyboard.

Hope that this helps.
Everyone head to beta.swype.com to register, and they email it to you! it's amazing.
For real. Got mine just an hour or so ago. It is so much better then the hacked version. Auto caps ftw.

Could not have said that better myself, it looks better to and the long press on the smilies is nice too
It doesn't have a voice-input button on it, does it? If not, that's a deal breaker for me.

I am the Senior QA Engineer at Swype. A voice-input button is a sorely missing feature for us too. We are looking at what it would take for us to integrate a feature like that, but we don't have any time frame for when that might happen yet. If you would like to see that feature developed more quickly, please give us feedback on the Swype Forums.

i received the email and clicked the link from my phone but it doesn't recognize my device as an Android device. is this because i'm not using the Stock Nexus One ROM (e.g., i'm using a custom ROM)? thanks in advance for your answer.
Oh they made typing in landscape easier... Or more so better. I like it, and I never exactly hated it either.
Oh it seems they made typing without swyping easier altogether, I typed this entire post with swype. Good job! Loveee it..

So typing normally is better on Swype than on the original Android keyboard?

Hmmmm, send me a PM. I may not be able to get to it this weekend, but I'll see what we can figure out. I know why that might happen, but I'm a little surprised that you are experiencing that with a custom ROM.

We're working to improve that experience as well, but for obvious reasons, we tend to focus most of our efforts on Swypeability.

I dont know if my opinion will matter, but im typing in landscape with very minimal mistakes, without even having to Swype! Im gonna go off a limb here and say this is definetly better the stock keyboard.
The bad thing is though, it doesn't have auto correction with just normally typing.. (big downer) but the accuracy is so good it can kinda be rarely needed. I believe that still should have been an inclusion.. Though.
Edit: yes it does looked in settings.. Lol

i'm on CM latest stable, had 0 problems getting email, downloading, installing
Hmmm...
Have registered, got the email, got to the link...tried downloading but it's stuck with no data being transferred.
Anyone else experiencing this?
edit:
it downloads now...no idea why it didn't earlier...this version is much better than the ones released in the forum earlier... my default keyboard now
anyone else try it out yet?
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/06/24/download-multi-touch-keyboard-from-droid-x/
it seems to work good other than vibrate dont work.. but maybe one of you fine people that know what you are doing can fix that
bumping this. Has anyone gotten it working it on 2.2 droid yet? Or any froyo for that matter
Works great thanks!
Im using it right now... its great exept for the red flash when you press a key
within the symbols screen the "&" key looks messed up in portrait. anyone else get the text spilling over neighboring keys?
Yes, I get that as well. Couldn't say why, but it's not a "deal-breaker" for me, I'm still going to continue to play with this very cool k-board.
Man! This is almost a win. It doesnt vibrate on keypress. For some reason, my thumbs need that tactile sensation. Hopefully someone can fix this.

i'd love to get a fix for this. as well as the tactile feedback when typing.
can someone try one of these out and see if it works for your devices? If not, I will fix the & key for the Incredible
EDIT: forgot link

There was a version of this that had the haptic feedback enabled. Doesn't work with froyo as far as I can tell. I can't find the link, but it should be floating around on the forums somewhere.

Yeah I know that one doesn't I made them. I should have said that, sorry. I am just curious to see if that will work on your devices, because my friend is getting one. Those have haptic feed back, fixed & key, and are skinned

I can confirm that the Bblue.apk does work. I haven't tried the others, but I'm assuming they will work as well. Thanks a lot for these. I really like the black with blue highlight one a lot.

No problem glade you like it. I would make a post here for them, but no point to double post. Just subscribe to that thread. I will add more when I have more ideas for it. Also anything you might want, I will make just ask in that thread
Great Keyboard. No problems with key formatting on my Droid Inc.
Takes up a lot of space in landscape mode. I'll use it for a while to see how it works, but on first inspection, it looks just as useable as the HTC IME.

Love the keyboards. Any chance you could make a fix for the & key on the one available in this thread?
I think that I posted in this thread when this k-board just came out. I've been using it non-stop ever since and have no inkling of returning to the original.
I've been using the keyboard for a few weeks and while I like the size of the keys and the overall function of the keyboard I'm going to be moving away from it. I've gotten pretty fast on the soft keyboards and I noticed I began making way more typos with this keyboard than the stock keyboard or a couple others I have tried. The problem seems to be that in my haste I am pressing and releasing keys almost at the same moment and this keyboard doesn't like that. It will either only pick up one key, or in my case usually just ignore both and pick up the third key. I noticed a comment about my issue in the Droid X multi touch keyboard post in the dev forum.
It seems this is by design but it is a deal breaker for me since I ended spending more time having to go back and correct all my messages so they made sense. If this can be corrected, I would immediately switch back. Hope this helps someone else because it was driving me crazy.
Seriously, I have loved my x10 right up until a few hours ago...
I don't care about multi touch or 2.2 or froyo, or whatever...
But somehow in my pocket, my phone has selected the stupid fu#$ing Chinese Keyboard... and there's no possible way to disable it... I can't get swype back, now I've just got this crap Chinese Keyboard...
SONY YOU SUCK
Has anyone else had the same issue, and knows of a solution (apart from rooting the device)
SONY YOU SUCK SUCK SUCK SUCK
Yes I had the same problem, I picked the Chinese keyboard. Hold long on the input, choose input data method, then choose your desired keyboard...

#1 / Open up any app that displays the on screen keyboard
#2 / Look to the very bottom left hand corner there is an icon of a globe and a number "12"
#3 / Press and hold down the key a submenu will be displayed. We shall call it the "Keyboard input settings menu"
The menu options are as follows: ----"Standard Keyboard", "Change Settings", and "Input Method" .
#4 / Select "INPUT METHOD" then select "STANDARD KEYBOARD" then exit
Probably this was also the way it got enabled in the first place.
However, its not SEs error to be honest I'm sure this way is mentioned in the user guide.
If you have rooted your X10, you can move SEMCTouchPalChinese.apk out of /system/app.
I was sick of the millions of various input methods available on my X10 (default, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Android Keyboard) and removed the standard keyboard (which also removes Japanese), Korean and Chinese. After installing the HTC keyboard from XDA, I only have 3 left. Very clean looking.
You're right (sort of)
All other keyboards have this option, but not the stupid Chinese one...
Gawd, I'm mad...!!!
Thanks for trying though
Just long press on any text input box. That will give you the option to select the keyboard of your choice.
Also think you can switch keyboards off in the settings, locale menu.

Why hate on other keyboards? Your inability to understand another cultures communications method is no excuse to call it stupid.

It's not about understanding languages but giving 30MB ram for something not being used.
Dear all,
some pages, e.g. Flickr, have hotkeys available, to make the navigation faster.
But,
there is a problem, when I want to use these on our beloved Sensation, due to no possibility to open the keyboard, without having a textfield selected on the screen.
Hopefully, I am wrong.
So please,
If you have an idea, how to open the keyboard when ever I want - please, let me know.
Many thanks in advance for your response.
All the best,
Mario
Try holding down the menu key, that used to work on my Nexus One. Doesn't on CM9, but might on others.
