[Q] adb trouble, please help? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

hey there im really a noob, i have the at&t htc one xl running the 1.85 update abd can seem to get past the "ADB is not recognized as an internal or external command operable program or batch file" please help so i can use 1.85 root script please and thank you

did you download a script zip file and then unzip the contents to a directory on your computer? if yes, is the file adb.exe in the folder where you unzipped the contents? the message "ADB is not recognized as an internal or external command operable program or batch file" means your computer can't find the program adb.exe. might retrace your steps to ensure you completed each one correctly.
i'd also suggest providing more detail on what you're trying to do, what tool/file you're using and a little more detail on the steps you taken prior to getting the error message. that will help us/others help you.

Sounds like you downloaded a root script in a zip file, but you never unzipped it. For whatever root-script.zip you downloaded you will need to double click it and extract the files somewhere, maybe to your desktop. The main point here is to extract the files, as just opening the .zip and clicking root.bat won't work. Doing that would result in the error you are seeing.
Hope that helps.

[Q] Need Help with ROM..

i would like to take the stock ui off of my phone and i would like to know how to pull my system folder to my PC and create an update zip and sign it. bc i used nandroid backup but it says that i don''t have a sd card in my phone and skips the backup to my sd card. i have the htc hero and the 2.1 update
Is your phone rooted? Did you install Google sdk on your pc? If so go to your command prompt. And CD to the folder that you installed sdk and go to the tool folder.
Do adb romount then adb pull system system once the system folder is pulled create a update zip. Do a search here on xda and you will find the signing zip and instructions can't post it replying from my phone.
still need help
i haven't used the command prompt for nothing on my phone so?? i don't know how to use the command prompt or what to type in on their. plz help

wow..ok i gave you the benefit of the doubt in the other thread..but you made 2 threads of the same thing in the wrong section of this forum. Thats a blatant disregard for the rules. if you needed things worked out that much you should have used the IRC chat.

[Q] adb is not recognized as......

I rooted my hero on 2.1 before on a different computer a while back so im fairly familiar with this process. But i when i type in the file path for the C:\android-sdk-windows\tools and hit enter then type adb devices i get an error message that says
'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
I tried all the troubleshooting i can think of like
making sure its the right path to the tools final
making sure debugging is on
deleting the drivers
reinstalling htc sync
I dont know is this info is relevant but ill share it any way.
Im running windows xp

If any of you can help thatd be much appreciated

Hey bird, I had the same problem a few days ago. solution for me was, that adb is not located in the tools folder anymore. its located in another folder.I'm not in front of my pc right now.just check where in the windows sdk folder the adb.exe is located now.
Hope that helps you too.

if its the updated sdk you will have to update it. close and restart, and then reopen your run command and type in \platform\tools\. they changed the file path when they updated the new tools.

I'm too tired to read the whole thread right now, so someone has probably answered this, but here goes..
Previous versions of the Android SDK, adb was located in the tools folder, ie: if you installed the android SDK at C:\android-sdk-win, it would be c:\android-sdk-win\tools
The new release of the android sdk, adb has been moved, and is now located in the \platform-tools folder , ie; c:\android-sdk-win\platform-tools
much like the forums, file search is your friend sometimes
take care

We haz root but I haz more questions!

I downloaded the Android SDK on the website and the drivers from MotoDev and placed them on my desktop. I ran the drivers and they installed fine. I unzipped the SDK, created a new folder in my C: drive called AndroidSDK and placed the unzipped folder in that folder.
I opened Command Prompt and entered:
cd C:\AndroidSDK\android-sdk-windows\tools
then entered:
fastboot oem unlock
and got this error:
This application has failed to start because AdbWinApi.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this issue.
I then went into the SDK and read the readme where it says that adb was moved. It says it was moved to platforms. When I open the folder there is nothing in there.
try the path that ends with "platform-tools" instead

Ok I figured it out. I clicked on something and it brought up a repo. I download the missing platform-tools.
I ran the commands again and I'm still getting the errors. Should I copy everything from platform-tools into the tools directory?

I tried that also. I forgot to add that in my first post. There is nothing inside that folder. Am I missing adb? Is there a way to download it and drop it into that folder? I'm lost on this.
Thanks.

Did you open the SDK Manager and make sure all your packages are updated?

I did do that but cancelled after it installed the platform-tools. Should I let it download everything? It looked like it was going to take a long ass time.
**** I ended up downloading all the updates for 3.1 and entered the commands again. This time it was able to cd into the platform-tools but I can't enter the command fastboot oem unlock because I get error:
"fastboot" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file
Just my luck...
fastboot is in the "tools" folder, not the "platform-tools" folder.

Ok I changed CD but now it's telling me it can't find a file that's located in platform-tools. Should I copy all the files from platform-tools and move them into the tools folder?
*********************************************************
Ok. I moved the file and it worked. My Xoom is unlocking. I have the worst luck when I borrow someone else's laptop.
Copy any files it tells you it can't find. I haven't encountered that issue myself, but that's the solution I've seen others recommend.
I'd like to thank Gnac and the other people who helped me achieve root with the issues I was having.
Anyway I have an SD card in my Xoom and I don't think it's working like it should. I downloaded a file manager, loaded a .zip on there of a theme I want to install but when I boot into recovery it's not there.
I've verified it's in the SDcard with the file manager and it's in .zip format. I'd prefer to flash it instead of adb'ing it because I keep all my .zip organized in folders on my SD card. Before inserting the SD card in the Xoom I did wipe it.
I'm rooted 3.1 and I have Busybox installed. I'm running:
[email protected] #2
Any ideas how I can get the files to be seen in recovery?

ADB.zip download

I have uploaded a working ADB package on mediafire. I use it on both Vista 64bit and XP 32bit. I uploaded the zip because you can not email .exe files, and needed to get it to my little Bro. I am posting this to let anyone else who is in need know where an easily installed ADB is.
Get here http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?18k1mi04lpg75y2
Extract to a folder on the root of your C drive, I named mine ADB.
Open a CMD window and type "cd C:\ADB"
Thats it, you should then be able to procede with starting the server.
I also have the EVO Shift USB drivers in a zip, they are billed as Win 7 compatible. Once again I found it the only way to get it to my brother. I have not used this driver package, any problems found please make me aware of.
Driver zip here http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?5ef7ga7napv0mg4
i cant unzip it
I would need to no what OS you have, you should be able extract it to a folder you create on the root of your C drive. You may need an application to unzip I have winrar and Windows may not be able to work with that compression. I am quite sure 7zip will and it is free. If you tell me what you have I should be able to help you get it done.
7-zip.org
Whatever you need it for.
Always (!!!) install 7-zip.
Its better AND cheaper, than WinZip, WinRar and all those others.. COMBINED!!
:fingers-crossed: :victory:
don't work with 7-Zip too
I can't unzip with 7-Zip too because the file is hidden in a file and 7-Zip can't extract it:confused
i want to download adb .rar file . please somebody help me with this.

[Q] Noob help w/ bkondisk and other questions

Great forum, lots of great information. I want to flash a Spanish language ROM to an HTC Excalibur, I have read a lot of the threads related to doing this and I have downloaded most of the tools as well as the ROM.
I want to do a ROM dump of the OEM ROM just in case anything goes wrong.
1) Instructions for using bkondisk.exe says
prun bkondisk [targetdir]
I need more detailed instructions, if I run this from a command prompt in Win XP it just says prun is not a recognized as a command, program or batch file.
do I have to navigate to a directory on the phone? It just says 'mobile device' location is "my documents" which is weird because I don't see my documents anywhere.
I have copied bkondisk.exe and the tools from itsutils to the windows directory on the phone.
2) general question about all .exe files eg. typical instructions will say
Run the SDA Application Unlock.exe.
Right now the file SDA Application Unlock.exe is downloaded to my PC. Where do I copy it to on the phone before running it?
I cannot run any .exe files copied to the phone.
All files which I have copied to the phone it says "converting to mobile phone format" while copying.
Any .exe file copied thusly if I double click on it it will not execute, it just shows the file size and info.
I tried running the file SDA Application Unlock from the phone's file explorer, when I did it just said "SDA Application Unlock is not a valid Windows CE program"
Summary: basically two problems, where do I put these files to be able to run them, and why is it when I copy them to my phone I can't get them to execute?
